Welcome in my new Mayors' Diary. I will present here City of Canterbury, located in a fictional Province of New West England.

After several weeks (!) of preperations, I'm finally ready to present my new city. It will be loosely based on London, New York and other American, Canadian, Australian, German as well as Polish cities. In the first update I'm going to present Docklands - modern office district located in the eastern parts of Canterbury.

Nice start, really like the downtown.  I haven't had a downtown like that since way back with my first city journal Cambellsport, six years ago!  Great flag too!

Docklands is a modern office area in the eastern part of Canterbury. The docks were formerly part of the Port of Canterbury, at one time the world's largest port. They have now been redeveloped principally for commercial and residential use.

In the Middle Ages, ships tended to dock at small quays in the present-day Isle of Cats. When British Empire increased its trade with overseas territories, the quays become insufficient for large number of vessels. In 1802, the first new dock was opened, followed by other projects completed in the 1805-1830 period. In addition, several warehouses and working-class homes were build in the area.

During World War II Docklands were converted into naval port and supply warehouse with humanitarian aid and arms support for Allies. In 1962, construction of the Newport was started, finished in 1968. Old docks as no longer needed were finally closed and abandoned in 1981.

In 1994, new era for Docklands has started. First line of Docklands Light Railway was opened and City of Canterbury announced new redevelopment project for the area. Today, thousands of Canterburians work in this area, but in a middle of the day, when everyone are at work, Docklands look deserted.

WC_EEND: I have been in London several times. In September I went to Canary Wharf. It's one of my favourite parts of London.

Good work (and rather quick, I must say), I really like the addition of RL pictures. I think that Norman Foster's Jubilee line station at Canary Wharf is one of the best looking tube stations out there, and guess what, I've been to London (and Canary Wharf) in September as well

Nice to see Polish community being so active here! Your MD is really impressive, and I love how you loosely base it around the real places. This Docklands area is great, and you even got it to such details as Canary Wharf Underground station and DLR! Remarkable job, my friend!

I could only propose using more European looking streets [clickie]. While the default textures with yellow lines between look good, I think that the pic would profit from installing it. And don't worry - it's compatible with widened roads I see you like using so much.

Overall, it's a pretty nice start! Hope to see more from you!

I really enjoy the way your water and land areas fit together with the nice use of those seawalls and pedmalls. Your use of NAM and street placement is nice and the RL pictures contribute a lot as well

LOL, just photoshop it and SNOW!!!   I really like that update, did you use the rain tool?
