Introduction:

Welcome to Serban, an independant state south of New York. Serban is mostly rural, however more and more large cities are engulfing the region. This CJ will move around Serban as if you were on a road trip, and will show how the region expands from the small area of land to a thriving metropolis.

*NOTE*: I have the LHD version of the game, so my roads might look slightly different to RHD Sim Cities.

Nice start, that must be one very busy roundabout.
I look forward to more.

Thats looking really good, I can't wait to see more  ;D
For I am Bluejaymandias, Bird of birds. Look upon my civil engineering works, ye mighty, and despair.

It's something about a city. And a struggle that never happened.

rooker1: It sure is! Thanks for the comment  ;)
theBluejay: Thanks for the comment. I hope you like what's coming!

Update 1: East Shelbyton

Since I had some spare time today, I thought I'd just go ahead and post the first update. Thank you to all you people who have read my introduction. ;)

Road trip:

*NOTE* I have used an arrow to indicate the route we are taking. The colour changes depending on the road classification

A rough map of the route we are taking:

Once we leave the house, we make an immediate right down the B1990.

The intersection is signposted, showing us the option off going down Mew Drive:

We continue down the B1990 till we reach the A19. The route is heavly sign-posted:

The first round-about:

The B1990 terminates at the A19, offering us to go either left or right. Both lead to Greenglade.

As we approach the second round-about, a large sign directs us:

The level crosing: Nothing special here

Now we approach the M19. We would go straight on through to Central, but we feel rather peckish...

So we stop at Shelbyton Crater Services , iconic for it's...

CRATER!!!
After stopping at Burger King, we head back down the road:

After leaving the services, we join the M19, which is currently being extended. All roads in this area have the area code 19.

A sign comfirms our route. Central is out destiantion:

This is a kinda big update, so sorry if it takes forever to load. Get ready for Part 2.

Nice roadtrip. I like the idea with the signs. And the crater... well, I didn't expect that.  ;D What happened there?   ???

RickD: Thanks for the comment! As for the crater, let's just say it was a gruesome hole digging lot accident. (Too graphic to explain in detail)
Battlecat: Thanks!

Update 2 - A trip through Greenglade

In this update, we will take a detour through Greenglade on our trip to Central. Greenglade was made as an alternative place for people to live rather than Central, however the idea didn't catch on and as such Greenglade only has sixty residents. Anyway, without anymore blabbering on, here are some pics:

Road trip

We enter Greenglade along the M19, an immediatly turn off at Junction 3.

After turning onto the A180, we continue South. All roads in Greenglade Co have area code 18.

The A180 terminates at the A19. This intersecton is sign-posted. We turn right here.

We enter Greenglade

Here is Central Greenglade. A new railway line is being laid here.

After leaving Greenglade, we now turn off the A19 onto the A181.

After winding are way though countryside roads, we arrive here:

This complicated sign shows us directions for traveling West to Central, or East to Shelbyton.

Finally, we join the express lanes of the M10. This sign shows directions for both the Express and the Collector lane.

Hopefully you enjoyed this update. Next time we will focus on more urban areas and the regions largest city, Central.

Your MD proves that you have a great sense for the transportational aspect of the game - your roads are very realistically done. Great update!

Connor

Nice couple of updates. Great work on the signs, very realistic.

canyonjumper

Nice work! I particularly like the signs!

nedalezz: Thanks! I try to make my roads as realistic as possible.
Connor: Thank you! ;)
canyonjumper: Merci!

Update 3 - M is for Map

This update will take a short break from the road trip and focus on something else I have been working on - a detailed map. As I live in the UK, I have based it on Ordance Survey - the UKs mapping agency, who can be found here: http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/. Hopefully you will like it, but as this is my first map, there may be some technical hitchs. Any comments are appreciated.

Maps

First of all, here is an example of an ordinary Ordance Survey map.

Here is my version for the region. Greenglade and Shelbyton are in the south of the map. The dotted line shows the city boundries. NOTE: Click to see image in full size

Here is the same map, with the route we took overdrawn. Again, click to see fully.

Hope you liked them!  ;)

Excellent map, Nick. I can't believe this is your first one. Must have been a lot of work.

RickD: Thanks. It took awile to make, but I used a free program called Map Maper Gratis, so that helped me alot.
canyonjumper: Thanks.

Update 4 - Welcome to Central

This update will resume the road trip. In this update we enter the regions biggest city - Central. Central is the political capital of the region, and as a small commuter airport. Central has a very good elevated rail transport system, and currently that is the fastest way to get around the city.

Road trip

As we enter Central, eletronic signs alert motorists to slow down to 45 mph.

It's begginning to get dark. As we continue along the express lanes, motorists in the collecter lane have an exit for Central's political center, university and airport.

The same highway. Large electronic gantries have been installed along the route.

The collector lanes end and can region the main carrigeway. We take the exit here and turn left.

We wind our way through the confusing streets of Central. Luckily road signs guide our path.

We arrive an one of the many main roudabouts. The MLK round-about gives as options for travelling to Downtown central, the political center or for Jonestown via the M1. We continue forward.

The avenue pass's through some elevated rail.

To be continued.

I hoped you like this update. Get ready for part 2/

By the way, here's a little teaser of what could come; a mysterious trumpet interchange:

Update 5 - Welcome to Central pt 2

In this update we will continue are trip through Central, continuing from where we left off. I think this will be the last "old" style format. It takes me too long to make all the signs and when I'm done I hardly have enough energy to upload it. From hereinafter I think I will go for a more "traditional" road geekery approach - a mix of the excellent Greater Terran Region and Tarkusian Cities, by Haljackey and Tarkus. But don't worry - more road-geekery assured.

Road trip

Here is the parclo interchange we saw at the end of the last update.

Another view of the interchange. NOTE that I am using the fabulous British Sign Set off the STEX.

As we push forward, we go passed the Central police station. Crime has become a major issue in Central recently.

The avenue bends round houses, business's and appartments. A major avenue makes a transition from sunken to elevated. We join it and go north along the elevated section.

The avenue terminates on University Road. The univercity is visible at the top of the screen.

The univercity in further detail. It has good transit connections and small C$ shops serve the students.

Next to the univercity is Central airport. It is owned by the College of Aerodynamics, which is situated inside the univercity.

Exiting the univercity is the A1088, perhaps the worst RHW in the whole region.

The RHW crosses over a sunken highway. We turn off here to enter central Central again. We take a right then a left here onto the avenue.

The road arrives at a round-about. We take the right. This takes us (eventually) to an interchange along the M1.

On the approach to the M1, the road spans over a railway line.

It quickly dips to interchange with another section of the city. The traffic is terrible, and the interchange needs major upgradings.

Finally the interchange before upgrading begins.

The next update will focus on the upgrading of the intersection.

Great job on the roads! can I just mage one suggestion? Get rid of the maxis airport and either use one of the AC team's prefab airports (fully functional) or the RMIP-2 system found on the STEX (eye candy only)

Looks good, although your roads are a little bumpy. I would suggest leveling your terrain and using a slope mod for your future routes.

I'll be keeping my eye on this one, very entertaining thus far!

RickD

Your really have a unique road system in your region (cool unique, not awkward unique!  ;))

I think I've said it before but I am still amazed by the sign graphics you put into the pictures.
