Hi guys.

So I have this shiny new PC which I had to copy the game files directly from the disc instead of using the installer as the 2nd disc was scratched I think. Anyway, of course that meant no registry entry, however I could play the game, but no patches for me :(.

So I got registry keys from a user in the forum, uhm forget the username  - he is Top Gear's biggest fan according to him...anyway, obviously his PC's details were different to mine and I'm now using Win 7 64 bit.

I have taken a screencap of my registry entries - the second one is the language one which I managed to change thanks to ripplejet's guide

Now I'm having some trouble with directories and names and things. Which is the correct value for folder and install Dir? Are they the same? The place where everything is located is C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe. My CD drive is E:\ as I have partitioned this drive into C and D. Is my region correct? I live in South Africa, and I know it's lumped together with some other region, for get which. Is my locale correct? I assumed it would be en for the english version of the game which I have.

Those are all my Q's for now, thanks.

As far as I know, for game releases, Africa and Europe are generally seen as one region, so EUR as region would be ok (my guess would be that this determines the skuversion which is 2 in the case of Europe) if the install dir is where you actually installed the game then that should be ok as well

I hope this helped you somewhat (again ;D)
RIP Adrian (adroman), you were a great friend

Ah, it was You! Thanks again, found your email :) After much commandline fu I have manged to get the graphics and eveyrthing to work properly and the game directories all seems fine and everything is working. I was concerned about the region, as I remember on the patch page I have to DL the sku1 patch:
QuoteFor the following territories download the sku 1 update. The territories include North America, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Australia, and New Zealand.

Strategist01

Aaah! I tried to install the sku 1 update and it says that the registry/INI file is invalid/corrupted!! It worked on my XP machine, wonder if it's because I'm on a windows machine?

Andreas

Where did you place the registry entries on your Win7 64 bit machine? They have to be placed in the "WOW6432Node", as SC4 is a 32 bit program.

I placed them in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ and then Maxis/../ etc. Where do I find this WOW6432node?

Found it under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. Now do I just put the keys there, the whole Maxis/.. shebang or do I have to do something else?

Andreas

I don't have SC4 installed on this system, so I can't look, but from what I remember, the whole "Maxis" branch needs to be placed in the WOW6432Node.

Hmm, I deleted the keys and changed the keys that weren't in the registry to make the whole "maxis" folder et. al go in the wow6432node folder and still the patcher won't patch :(

McDuell

Andreas is right; the 'Maxis' branch has to be placed in the Wow6432node. There are two of them, you just found the wrong one.

You have to place the Maxis branch under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Wow6432Node/

Do NOT put it under the one you found in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/. If you already did, you may safely delete the Maxis branch from there again.

Hope this helps  :)

AH, thanks it worked! ;D All I had to do was edit where the install folder was and it patched automatically ;D

Well, since this topic already exists...

1: Does Swap Size do ANYTHING? Any positive or negative effect, at all, whatsoever?

2: Same question for Cache Size.

I've tried reasonable, insane, and inbetween values for both and I've noticed bubkus. Are they broken? Am I looking at the wrong areas for changes (Decreased loading times, quicker loading of new zooms)?
