I use terragen to convert the GEO Tiff DEM file into a terragen file and also use it to get the highest & lowest elevation numbers.  I've heard of microdem, but never used it.  I use cgiar to get my international DEM.  DEM from outside the US will be pretty much the same no matter where you get it, it's all 90M or 3 Arc DEM...lousy data to work with when compared to the 10M or 1/3 ARC data I can get at the USGS site for US DEM only.  Alaska on the other hand is 60M or 2 Arc data which is the best you can get for Alaska which bites as much as international data.

  I saw the koolest island today.   It is called Nikumaroro Island.   It is supposedly the island where Ameilia Eirhart (sp) died.     There was a great overhead satelite shot of the island.     I couldn't capture the image for some reason.    It was in the AOL news.    This is a web site with a pic of it.  http://www.tighar.org/Projects/Earhart/NikuV/gridmapset.html         Could this be made somehow into an SC4 map?

It could be if the data can be found, and I'm betting it would be small enough for a 1 large tile map, or a 4km x 4km.

I just went and dl'd DEM for every South Pacific island I could find and no luck.  It is in the middle of nowhere, the nearest island at least a 100 miles away and may have been to small and insignificant to collect the data for.  So, the only way to make the map would be to hand-draw it and work my magic with Paint.

I recently finished the second and final series [11 maps in this series, 12 in the first] of the Somewhere On Cape York Peninsula, Australia maps and will be featuring five of the eleven maps in this post and the rest later this weekend.  C.P.s Missouri Breaks Terrain mod was used when rendering the maps to give the areas mapped as close a look to what these areas look like as possible.  The only thing I don't like about this terrain mod is the blasted snow level...never understood why snow levels are always set so low and I haven't been able to modify it like I did with the Italia and Meadowshire mods...

Oh, on a side M, I downloaded all of the South Africa DEM so your wish for maps of that region of the world are not that far away, maybe by late October, but definitely before the end of the year

Instead of what a good student should do, I did what a typical student usually does, and:

Can't say that, having not ever been disappointed by any of your maps, that it was the case that this time round!

I have a proposal (not "request") about maps to be made.

I would propose a Germany "pack" or "series", and more particularly Heidelberg, Füssen, East Bodensee (Lindau, Bregenz/Austria and a little bit of Switzerland), Koblenz, Wiesbaden (may incl a little of Mainz too, to show more of the Rhein and Main) and maybe Passau, Freiburg or Kassel.

These maps offer great scenery, and should be quite easy to make, eg you have only one body of water (a river or lake), and adjusting the "sea level" to this single body of water is easy and straightforward (otherwise you need to make "tricks"). They might be less known than big cities like Cologne or Munich, but they would make much more lovely maps (instead of just a plain with a river in the middle).

Just my thoughts.

For your information, at the moment I'm fulfilling some requests I received in the past few months and have requests for other regions of the world that haven't been mapped yet to keep me busy for some time to come, so there are no immediate plans on my side at this time to map Germany.  So my proposal to you is if Germany holds that much interest for you, go ahead knock yourself out mapping it.

Like many people must have asked you before, I would like to know, if you have or if you know were can I get a map of Portugal, specially the region of Lisbon?

Yes, Lisbon is on my list and I do have all the DEM data dl'd for both Portugal and Spain.  Is there any particular area of Portugal you would like, or do you want the entire country mapped?
