Welcome to Clark County, South Nevada, Sim States of America.

Overview:

Clark County is the largest of three counties in the state of South Nevada, located in South West Sim States. It currently has a population of 8 million located primarily in 2 population centers.

Prescott is the county seat and capital of South Nevada, it has a population of 2.2 million and is located in the north west corner of Clark County.

Henderson is the largest city in Clark County with a population of 5.2 million and is located in the south east corner of Clark County.

Geographically Clark County is square shaped and has elevation between 2000-7000 feet, it has a moderate climate with temperature varying from the upper 30's in the winter, to lower 90's in the summer. The terrain is mainly hilly with several small mountain ranges generally running north to south. One large lake, Lake Mead is located in Eastern Clark County and is connected to the Pacific Ocean via the Arizona Canal. One small river the Colorado River runs south from Lake Mead through Henderson.

Major industries include mining and ore processing, manufacturing, and more recently the high-tech sector has been introduced.

History:

Clark County was populated in the 1920's due to the Sim States inter-state highway program (IHP). The county was the location of a major highway intersection, IH 19 and IH 72. This interchange forms the major SW link of the IHP and was a logical place to have a construction base.

Prescott was formed in 1922 to process materials from the mountains in the region, Henderson was formed in 1924 as a construction base at the interchange. Construction of the IHP was finished in 1929 resulting in a depression in the region.

Originally Clark County was a part of the Sim-State of Nevada. However soon after being incorporated as a county the budget crisis of 1931 threatened to ruin the state of Nevada. At the time the two prinicipal industries of Nevada were mining in the South and forestry in the North. The state legislature was unable to decide which industry to tax more.

As a result the legislature deicded to split into two states to allow each to be more taylored to the needs of the main indutry. South Nevada was formed in 1932 and started the resurgence of the region.

Soon major industries realized that Clark County was located in a perfect location for the SW SSA. With cars becoming more popular after the IHP, the asphalt and concrete that the region produced came back into demand. This led to a boom times for the region with major mining corporations setting up headquarters in the area, mainly in Henderson which is closer to the Arizona Canal.

By the 1960's Henderson had become the 3rd largest town in SW SSA and as a result started to attract commerical interests. These interests primarily settled in the West Henderson and Akron region and led to a second boom time. By the 80's the computer revolution started to bring high tech industries into the region.

Today Clark County is a major commerical and industrial hub in SSA.

Organization:

South Nevada is the smallest state in SW SSA by nearly a factor of 10 and consists of only three counties. Clark County which has over 90% of the area of South Nevada, Lexington County located to the North, and Kodiak County to the West.

Prescott serves as the capital of South Nevada and the county seat of Clark County.

Due to the large size of Clark County the County Commision is arguably the most powerful political organization in the state. Some argue that the only purpose of the state legislature is to give federal money to Clark County.

The County Commission has 16 seats, which are alloted 3 each to the 4 quadrants of the county. Out of the remaining 4 seats 1 is alloted to Henderson, 1 to Prescott, 1 to Bluewell (a smaller town of 400,000 located in South West Clark County), and 1 the council chair is voted on by the entire county. The remainder of the seats are appointed by the city councils.

Henderson

This MD will start by focusing on the city of Henderson. The Henderson metro region is split into five major areas.

Central Henderson is located on the Colorado River just South of Lake Mead and has a mix of high tech industry and manufacturing industry, commerical development, and middle class residentials.

West Henderson/Akron is the major Commerical center of Henderson with some middle class residential areas and suburbs.

North Henderson which is located in the NE corner of Henderson houses the high tech industry, and upper class suburbs.

East Henderson is the main manufacturing center of Henderson.

South Henderson contains the lower class residential areas and more manufacturing industry.
