The pictures are just as spectacular as they are comforting to look at. I could keep looking on them all day I guess cause weather here is somewhat ugly... but unfortuatly there's just so much other stuff I have to do... but whenever I need some relaxation I'm sure to find myself around Walker's Island again :)

kimcar

&apls Nice update again mate . Hope nobody is lost in this jungle. ;D

Strechnitz

Yet another nice update from paradise.
I do have one question though. how do you get your jungle so extremely lush?
Is it a patch or mod that you use? or the LE?

Oh wait that's three questions....do you charge by the post or by the question?  :D

@all: Today's Update is going to be a whole different one.
It will show the Islands modern history,
wich is related to praiodans MD about the Zollernmark.

History Lesson

Discovery of the Islands and
Rise and Fall of the Frederikson Dynasty

The Islands were first sighted by Christian Frederikson on May 13, 1526.
Frederikson was a mariner and explorer of the mighty and powerful Frederikson Family,
a wealthy trading dynasty from the Zollernmark.
He named the Island "Tol Calen" (green Island),
after its dense forests. Colonization started 50years later.

Christian Fredrikson in 1526

The Frederikson Palais in Friedrichsstadt, Zollermark
(by praiodan)

In 1587 506 settlers left the harbor of Friedrichsstadt in the Zollernmark
with 6ships, guided by the fleet's jewel, the Begley.

The Begley anchoring in the Elizabeth Bay.

Three of the ships landed on a smaller Island south-east
of the main island and founded the city of Frederikshaven (also Port Frederikson)

The three other ships anchored in the Elizabeth Bay and
founded Port Elizabeth (the former Elizenhaven),
named after the queen of the Zollernmark Elizabeth Louise von Hohenzollern.

View on the whole Island

Within the years the population rose  to 25.000 people in 1680,
most of the people living in Port Frederikson.
The King of teh Zollermark was more and more concerned
about the rising power of the Frederikson Family on the Island.
The indeterminated situation, who owns how much needed to be cleared.
The remaining unsetteled areas were divided in 1715 within the Kronstadt Compact.

The Kronstadt Compact

A quarter of the Island belonged to the royal family of the Zollernmark,
a third was owned by the Frederikson Dynasty.
The other third was sold and given to new settlers.
The Walker Family, who made a fortune with plantations
on the Island purchased ca. a sixth of the Island.

The Island was declared as an official colony of the Kingdom Zollermark.
From now on a Governor was the head of the Island.
(In the Zollermark the governor was referred to as the viceroy)
The citizens were able to elect a Senate, which was able to submit bills to the Governor
The governor was officially appointed by the King of the Zollermark,
and who was the only one able to dispose him/her.
Practically the Frederikson Dynasty held the thorn of the Island until 1807.

This period, from 1715 until 1807 is called the Frederikson Era.
It was the time, that the Family power was on its peak.
But some heavy conflicts came up.

The Frederikson dynasty around 1780

Within the centuries the powerful Walker Dynasty purchased 1/3 of the Island.
They bought a big part of the royal estate in 1798.
In 1809 the Dynasty hold more than 50%,
they enlarged their fortune with plantations, sea trading
and financial services and became wealthier than the Frederikson Family.

In 1815 Benjamin Alexander Walker married the only daughter
and remaining inheritor of the Frederikson Family, Christiane Louise Frederikson.

Christiane Louise Frederikson 1815

In 1816 William Walker was born,
he became the governor in 1834.
Under him the Walker Family owned 5/6 of the Island.
In 1817 he declared the Kronstadt Compact as invalid.

An new agreement was signed in Friedrichstadt in 1818.
From then on the Walker Family choose the governor.
The Island was also renamed in Walker's Island.
The Walker Era began...

The oldest living member of the Walker Clan is Maria St.Croix Walker,
who is the holy grandmother of our holiness Karen Walker.

She still lives in Port Frederikson. We will visit this city the next time....

Terrific update as usual, urban. That region map is unbelievable, but it's always nice to have one so we can get our bearings.
The family history is fascinating, too.

Until next time...

David,

I simply Love this update!
An MD can never have to many history updates and dynasties in my humble opinion :D
Very insightfull and a very nice use of pics. I could not have done it better myself! splendid!

The Link with Praiodan's zollernmark is very nicely crafted. And I must say that the way the Walker dynasty gained supremacy is probably the first true corporate buyout or takeover in MD history

I applaud you and look forward to the capitol my friend.

Brooke astro is still alive ! ( I don't know why but when I've learnt she died, it made me feel a tad sad) Wonderful Update (the palace is so greatly made) so does St croix palais ! ( and using the cortez palace as a fort-island) is very clever ! Happy you didn't drop out all that Caribean Colinazation thingy !

kwakelaar

Great historic update, and a nice twist with the interconnectivity with Lars MD.
It is looking like quite a big map and a lot of space still to work on, I look forward to see how you will develop this island further.

@bat: Thanks for visiting, I'm glad you like it.

@Joan: Thanks to you as well.

@thundercrack:Thanks for dropping by.
We will take a closer look to Frederikshaven within the next Updates.

@Strechnitz: Thanks a lot,
your fabulous MD gave me the inspiration to do this.
There are actually even more dynasties planned :P
I'm happy to tell you, that the next few
Updates will be about the Walker Family,
Frederikshaven and how the Walker Family influenced Walker's Island.

@nova: I was sad as well, when I learnt she died.
She was an amazing person,
and her glorious life found such an unhappy ending.
Thanks for visiting.
We will visit St.Croix Palais and this part of Frederikshaven later.

@kwakelaar: Yeah the map is huge, and I mean huge.
There are many places to try things....

Frederikshaven Part 1

Within the next Updates we will visit the glorious Capital of Walker's Island, Frederikshaven.
Frederikshaven was founded in 1588 by settlers from the Zollernmark.
We will take a closer look on the history another day.
Frederikshaven is also called Port Frederikson in the English-speaking part of Walker's Island.

Today we will visit two of the most frequented sights of Walker's Island:
The Rhûn Cathedral and the Walker Palace (former Frederikson Palace)

Rhûn Cathedral

The Rhûn Cathedral is the biggest Church on the island,
even though it was never used as one.
It was built from 1826 to 1842 to celebrate the golden wedding anniversary
of Christiane Louise Frederikson-Walker and Benjamin Alexander Walker.
But Benjamin walker never saw the completed  building,
he died one year before the grand opening
and was buried inside the church.

The monument for William Walker (1816-1879)

The interior of the cathedral, some hundreds tourists visit the church everyday.

A closer look to the park shows the exuberant plantings and trees.

Walker Palace

Walker Palace is the official home of her holiness Karen Walker.
It was built from 1767-1798.
From 2001-2006 it was renovated from the ground up.
The costs for the renovation are estimated at 800million $.

The Palace is one of the biggest secrets of Walker's Island.
Normally it is not opened to the public
and only a few pictures of the inside exist.

The Small Stairway.

A hallway,
487 servants work in the palace,
among them are:
3 Drivers
6 Pastry Chefs
64 Gardeners
35 Bodyguards
4 Pedicurists
43 Cooks
1 Helicopter Pilot
1 Jeweler
18 Bakers
1 Plastic Surgeon
1Private Detective
2 Pharmacists
1 Back-Up Pharmacist
1 Optometrist
21 Butlers
2 Manicurist
287 other servants (maids, cleaners)

Wonderful new update there, urban! Great looking places!

Jmouse

Absolutely stunning update, urban. Walker Palace is beautiful and the RL interior photos mixed in bring it to life.
I'd love to know how you managed to get square fountains into diagonal plazas in the palace garden. I suspect it's something you created yourself and it would be out of place in my current region, but the concept is interesting just the same.

Until next time...

The cathedral and the palace are wonderful Urban! &apls

A very nice combination of ingame pics and photographs. Walker palace's interior is exactly what her divinity Karen would like to see. And to be honest. the last staircase photo is a true gem in terms of form and colour. fine choice indeed!

I do have one question though. why would she need a private detective? doesn't she have the entire police force at her disposal?
