Hello ,and welcome to my first attempt at a Mayor Diary! A few things before I kick this off:

1)    I have been playing SC4 again (after a long hiatus!!) for only a few months
2)    I have downloaded a lot of custom stuf that I am still getting to grips with
3)    Apologies in advance for my poor skills! I hope this diary will allow me to grow and improve them over the coming months
4)    I work more than full time right now, but I intend to update as often as possible!
5)    I have quite shamlessly used the money park cheat! I like to build, and while 99% of the buildings in the three zones are growable, and not plopped, i like to experiment!

What you can do to help me:

Feel free to critique anything you see!! Advice, ideas etc are most, most welcome!! If you think I could do something different / better, please let me know!!

So - here we go!!

Welcome to the Royal Commonwealth of Alexandria. Alexandria is a temperate landmass situated in the Wilshere Sea. Alexandria has a proud Naval history, dating back several centuries and the modern Navy is often involved in global naval excercises. The navy grew strong as it had to protect a much larger empire, with teratories spread across the globe. Over the last hundred years or so, many states have declared independance, but still share strong ties with Alexandria.

Alexandria has a modern economy, based around manufacturing, high tech industry and commerce. The capital is in fact emerging as a player in the world of banking.

A few facts about the Commonwealth:
Head of State:         King Joseph XII
Prime Minister:         William D'Arcy
Currency:               The Alexandrian Pound (AP)
Climate:                 Mainly temeperate, but with higher than average sunshine!
Geology:                Tectonically active - geothermal power is used extensivly.
State Flag:

The Coat of Arms moto is Consilio Et Animis - By Wisdom and Courage!

The aim of this MD will be to follow the different areas within Alexadria as they expand and grow over time. This will be done by following various citizens as they go about their daily lives. I don't want to focus on one person, as that will limit what I can do! Look out for entries from taxi drivers, office workers, civil servents and more!

Let me be the first to welcome you to the world of MDing! I'm glad you decided to start one up and I look forward to seeing your progress here. I'll be happy to offer you any advice or suggestions I can. I don't use money parks but the "moolah" cheat from buggi's extra cheats--money isn't that interesting to me in SC4 and there's plenty of time to worry about it in real life. A majority of my buildings are grown but I make a lot of exceptions, especially for commercials since plops are just as good as growables as long as the demand for what you're plopping exists. Plopped industrials don't ship freight and plopped residentials don't really do anything but sometimes it's just easier to do it that way to get the neighborhood character I'm looking for. Anyway, welcome again and happy SC4ing

Yes, welcome!

I don't think a lot of folks here pay any attention to money or other limitations. Most consider their game a sandbox to play with.

Looking forward to what you're gonna show us.

Cheers
Willy

Well, I'll be the third to welcome you to the Recently Published area. I can see that you've already given your story and region some thought, and that's always a good thing. So now, I'm looking forward to seeing some photos. :)

Happy MDing...

Welcome to the world of MDing. :) Starting your first MD is always very exciting. I look forward to what you have in store - particularly the aspect of following people in their daily lives. It sounds like this will be very cool. And don't worry about money park cheats... I stopped "managing" my cities a while back. I mostly build a city for fun... like a sandbox.

Look froward to what you have in store. :)

@noah - thanks for the warm welcome! My plugins file will grow as I go through this diary I hope.

@swordmaster - another thanks for the welcome! I have to agree about the game being a big sandbox!

@jmouse - thanks! See below for a few pics!

@sim_link - thanks - I am actually quite excited about the whole MD thing! Below are some taster pics of my region, and the MD proper will start in a few days or so.

So here we go - to start with just a few pics of some of the various towns and other areas within my region to whet your appetite!! As I mentioned above, the MD proper will start later in the week! As always - critique is welcome and appreciated!

Canal warehouse area, off the main port area - this is used to bring and ship goods in and out of the area. Goods transfer from here on to the larger ships and out into the big wide world

Alexandria has large coal reserves, and as it now relies on nuclear, geothermal and solar power as its main source of power, it exports a lot of its coal to other countries. This is one of the coal export areas at the major port.

Rail plays a big part of moving Alexandrians around the region - here is a small suburban rail station in a fairly weell to do area

And here is the largest cities main rail station, with bus stations and subway lines right outside

There are a lot of rural areas still in Alexandria - some of the crops are transported out via rail and truck:

One of the smaller rural areas:

A larger suburb area, with a commercial centre:

Thanks for looking - next time we will be following an Alexandrian called Mike. Mike works at one of Alexandrias nuclear power plants. Its on the road to being decommisioned, as its the oldest plant in the region. However, a new one is coming on line and Mike will be moving across to it in the next few months.

Cheers all

to whet your appetite!!

I'm drooling. . .

That coal dock looks exactly like a part of my hometown port. A big port and lots of rails. . . what more could I ask for? Please keep it up :)

I think the commercials need more work, though; the area looks to be laid out quite well, but there's too much repetition. For lower densities, I can at least recommend JBSimio's set - they're very well rounded. Also take a look at jmyers2043's files on the LEX for farms and small shops. For higher densities, there's a lot of options; I'm sure you'll find many good buildings for that purpose.

I should also advise this mod to remove the yellow pause frame.

Finally, I'd also number the pictures; will be easy to reference them. But this is overall a very good start!

Cheers

The canal warehouse area is one of my favorite pics I've seen in a while!

All the pics are great, but the first and second are by far my favourite!!
Great work and I can't wait to see more.
Happy New Year!
