Overhanging textures?

I understand that props have to be rendered a special way to be offset from the lot, but what about just textures? The desire is to have a 1x1 lot have 2 tiles of just a base and overlay texture extending out from it; no props are needed.

Can the lot just be made normally then have its size changed, or is it more complicated?

Textures cannot overhang the lot edges.
In order to achieve what you want, you would have make a thin, flat bat (with the texture on top), and render it offset.
In other words, the "overhanging texture" needs to be a an overhanging prop.

If you only want the overhanging texture for a specific lot that you won't distribute,
you could also use Dan's method as shown in How to Texture NAM Curves.

Thanks. I was looking into getting the RMIP and FLUPs together, either this way or the actual FLUP pieces.
