I would like to request a range, too, please.

It has been mentioned that it's a good idea to keep track of the range numbers we have already used so as not to accidently repeat or overwrite previously files.  Anyone have suggestions as to an effecient way to do this?  I am a big fan of Excel for list making, would this work?  Also, is there a way to keep the files in my own range easily findable?  I'm really big on keeping things organized and so I am wondering if it's a good idea to create a seperate folder (say on my desktop) to keep my range file creations in while working on them and before trying to import them into the game.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Lora, you range is 0x5f851700 to 0x5f8517ff inclusive.
I keep a record in a notebook after losing the original list I had in a computer crash. I have an Excel SS too but prefer the pen and paper version.

Thanks so much for the IID Range, I appreciate it.  Now I just have to figure out how to use it!

Dear BarbyW,

Now I am going for the serious work. Could you hand me some iid's? I think I need no more than ten numbers.

Thanks in advance,
FrankU

Can you give me some idea of how you organize your lists/notes for your personal IID's?  I am giving thought to attempting to list all the possible hex combination variations within my assigned range, then checking them off when used and adding notes as to what they were used for.  Is this realistic, do you think?

Also...do the prop family IID's have pre-determined in-game values for certain digits located in specific locations in the 8 digit sequence, in a manner similar to how the hex values work for textures?  If so, where would I find information explaining this?  And if not, then am I safe to assume that I can basically use any combination of hex values within my range for the last 5 digits in the sequence?

Lastly, and this may be a stupid question, but is there a tutorial anywhere that might help a newbie such as myself sort out all the lingo involved with creating custom content or that would maybe break down the manner in which one might get started.  Some specific questions I have are things like: Are textures considered to be props?  If so, how are texture families different than prop families?  Are all props created in the BAT?

Is there anywhere I can go to learn and understand how a single cell in the game is configured to display?  There is so much to learn, I am a bit overwhelmed in regards to where to start.  Any help would be appreciated.

With regard to kepping a list, I just keep a list of what prop family IIDs I have used. For example - 0xBC000049 - SNM Tanks. There is no wealth indicator as with the Texture Index.
I recommend reading Guide to the creation of custom content for sharing with the community There are links within that to other useful threads on SC4D. There is also a printable version in Word.doc format attahced to the first post.
Another useful tutorial is Creating your own prop families(extended version) which will tell you how to use the prop family IIDs.

Textures are not props and you should read the appropriate pinned post in the Texture Index thread. They are, however, lot objects and count towards to final total of objects allowed on a lot. Texture families exist for the different wealth levels only whereas prop families are objects placed on a lot - like trees - so that the prop varies depending on the one selected by the game.
All props are made in BAT in the same way that buildings are made.

I would advise a lot of reading before starting anything.

Not only a lot of reading, but a lot of question-asking, too, which I am doing!  I have no plans to start creating anything at all until I feel I have a firm grasp on how things work...acquiring my IID ranges for Prop Familys and Textures is just the first step towards getting my ducks all in a row, don't worry.

And thank you for the links to tutorials, I will use them and post further questions there as they arise.

Lora/LD, thankful folks are patient with newbies around here
