Title: Travis' UCC mod shop
Post by: Travis on August 02, 2007, 01:58:21 PM
EDIT: Please post here if you have any technical difficulties with my lots. Thank you!

Hello,

Due to popular demand ( ;)) by my MD readers, I've decided to open a lot showcase thread, in which I'll post pics of the various lots
I'm working on. Not sure where to upload any, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there. Anyway, the first two up for discussion:

A re-lotting of Kevdan25's Mcdonalds, always considered the original to be too cluttered.

A re-lotting of Hableurg's Bowling Alley, which I always considered to be too small.
Those are seasonal trees, by the way.  ;D

Don't worry, plenty of in-game pics are headed your way, plus a bunch more lots. These are by far the simplest ones; for the large ones
have far too many dependencies to be considered for release. That is all for now, comments and suggestions welcome!

EDIT: Forgot to mention, both are transit enabled.  ;)

Not looking bad  ¡¡¡

The overall look is nice. What about adding some light poles ?¿ They would add some extra realism ( imo of course  ;) )

If these are growable Lots, you will want to not have them transit-enabled. If they are transit-enabled, they will never upgrade/get redeveloped when the conditions are right for a bigger building to be at that location in the city when the game is running.

@Jeroni, thanks! Indeed, I seem to have forgotten light poles, thanks for the tip.  :)

@Jan, these are ploppable-only as of now, but I do plan on making growable versions as well. Thanks for the reminder too- it's something I
might have overlooked.

Thanks Pat!  :)

The promised in-game pics to follow...

As of now, the re-lotting of Hableurg's Bowling alley is 99% done (just got to add light poles), then it's on to modding. I'll be making both a growable
and a ploppable. The McDonald's has a ways to go yet, as I have to reduce the number of dependencies. (It's like 10 right now)

The Bowling Alley in action:

Notice the seasonal trees?

A side-by-side comparison of the original McD's lot, and the revamped one...

And something new in the pipeline: A Bus Maintenance Depot...

Those buses in there aren't permanent; right now they're New Jersey Transit buses, and they probably won't suit everyone.

Comments anyone?

Later.

The McD's and Bowling alley lots you created are inspiring. I think this represents one of the best parts of the community where by others work can be utilised in different ways (with due credit of course! ;))...

I think you've done a great job in Lot Editing. The MC Donalds Lot looks much nicer now and also the bus depot looks more realistic that way. Good!  &apls

Progress...

But first, the necessary replies...

@le harv, thanks! Indeed, all the credit goes to the creators of these wonderful BAT's.  :)

@Thanks pat!  :)

@Vario, Thanks! Glad you think it looks nice.  :)

Anyway, I made a growable version, and I tested it. Grew in less than 10 seconds.  :)

Unfortunately, when I went back in the LE to correct a last few things, I couldn't find the lot. Anywhere.  ()sad()
The files are all intact in the plugins folder- it's just that, for whatever reason- the lot editor won't read them. I tested it again,
and it still grew in-game. The corrections I wanted to make should be pretty obvious in the pic below:

Apparently, the prop family I used for the cars spawned them in all sorts of weird places, and I missed a shrub in the middle of the entrance.
Both need to be removed, but without the LE, it's hopeless.  :'( I'm aware it can be done in the reader, but it's far beyond my knowledge.  &mmm

Perhaps, anyone might have a solution? Or if not, could someone have a look at the files, and see if they can remove the props for me?  &idea

Anyway, the ploppable needs a little more modding, but I can't release it until I resolve the problem with the growable.
However, the McDonald's is coming along. Some LE work to do, then a little modding (plop only), and the packaging, testing, and release.
But where?  ()what() Perhaps I need to open a "LEX Candidacies thread?

Some comments, suggestions anyone?

Thanks in advance.

travis so you cant even find the bowling alley period even the plop?  You should know what i would say about LEX candidacies lol... I would be willing to help you to try and figure out what went wrong with the growable, cause
i would like to learn the process nothing better to do then teach ones self and butt heads in a solution lol

You should use Ardecila's nice parking lot lights instead of those Maxis ones. I can't remember which ones they're called, but they're tall and square. :P

I was messing around with some Road Top Mass Transit lots for my game yesterday with Lot Editor/SC4 Tool etc. I would open the existing RTMT that I wanted to edit, do my stuff and then save under a different name but then it would no longer show in the LE load menu? Very strange as like u said the file exists in my plugins.

if you do a save as in the LE, you need to restart it to get the lot to show.

I know thats not your problem travis, but it's probably Le_harvs

Travis, have you tried typing in the IID into the LE?  Thats how I find pesky lots.

Actually, those are SimGoober's which Ardecila placed into a DAT for his parking lots.

Anyway, I'm still working, but mostly on other people's lots right now. Have no fear Diggis; that lot is at the top of my release list. It's good to hear people actually plan on downloading some of my stuff. I hope to open a LEX Candidacy thread next week too.  ;)

More replies and some new pics hopefully in a little while.

Thanks everyone, I've found the problem with the Bowling Alley- I made a few modding errors and the LE refuses to read it. I'll start over soon...

I do, however, have a lot that can be released soon...

Bus Depot: Generic Bus Version
(http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/5802/busdepotflagriveroct151oh7.jpg)

Bus Depot: School Bus Version
(http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/2813/busdepotflagriveroct151fn5.jpg)

There are cars on both, but they show somewhat sporadically.

I hope to release these soon on the LEX, I'll be starting a candidacy thread soon. Modding will be similar to the Maxis Bus Station, with an
increased capacity.

Later.

To be honest, I'm not really sure. I don't keep track of my downloads very well, and the other day I happened to come across them in the LE. I'll
hunt them down eventually.  ;)

Quote

As I think you might like a soccer (otherwise known as football outside the US) variation, and a lot of other people probably do too, I'll give it a try.  :)

Quote

How about both end zones?  ;)

Anyway, there is progress on the Football Variety Pack to show.

A few corrections need to be made, and a few more props added, but how does this one look?

That's a dual-purpose soccer/football field. Notice the goalposts?

Another angle...

Here's a wealthier-looking version of that practice field I showed last post.

A close-up, showing some of the detail. You can even see the end zone pylons...

Lastly, we have a texture variation from the #1 and #2 pics yesterday. I made a big mistake here: The field is too short.  :P I'll correct it.

The textures and props on these aren't final, so don't panic.  $%Grinno$%

By the way, your PM inbox is full, you probably oughta clear a few messages from it ;).

Travis,

Your lots look good. Nice add-ons for the cities between Maxis' simple soccerfields and the large stadiums.
Good fences and other props, thoug flowers and shrubs shouldn't be within the ring, I guess.
So many grass textures, how do you manage to fit everything together?

More progress.  :)

At this point, the number of lots that have been made for this project is 10, more have been started and even more are planned.
These lots are totally unmodded right now, and simply organizing them once I'm finished will be quite a challenge.  ;)

There are some pics, though... 10 of them in fact. :)

I really like the little barbecue party or whatever here...

Another new field. Also, please excuse the goal out in the middle of the field, I wasn't paying attention when I saved the lot.  :P

ooh, an update.  Really great job with the paths and other textures.  Just can't get over how well the CP textures work with the fields, I don't think I could have planned it better(and trust me I didn't).  Somethings are just meant to be ;D.  My favorite is the middle one with the lighter coolered dirt paths.

Excellent work on these.

I like the lots very much indeed.
One question though: if you are planning a large amount of these, there will be a lot of Lots in the park menu, I guess. And everyones' park menu is already full of lots. Is it maybe possible to make the fields into families and some props also, so that we can plop down one lot that changes every plop? Random sportsfields? Or is this not possible or unwanted?

You could also consider to put them in the health menu. Probably one of the menus that is not yet stuffed with plugins.

If you dont make these into a lot family so that they change with every one you plop ill gladely make up some mmls for these babies both the American Football ones and the Soccer ones. I just released a big mml pack and have gotten quite efficent at doing it..would only take me like 5-10minutes and another  5minutes to test them.

Hi folks.  :)

Unfortunately, I can't release the football lots yet- I need to wait for Chris to release his prop pack, and he is tied up with RLS at the moment.
Never fear, for I always have something else in the pipeline.  ;)

A small, suburban Post Office. Never mind the two buildings above it, those are Krio's lots I'm working on. The parking lots just happen to match.

It's near complete. It spawns postal vehicles, located in the rewards menu, (non-conditional) and has a custom icon. Just some tweaks and it's ready to go.

PS: There are cars in the parking lot. They just always seem to dissapear when I go to take a picture.  :P

True, CP's cars are more detailed- but they're static. These cars come and go depending on the time of day. Those white trucks, btw- are american
mail trucks.

About the fence, probably not. I want the parking to be able to fit with other lots, to make modular shopping centers and strip malls. (Like in

Alright- take a few days though. I ran into some technical problems with 1-2 lots a ways back that I haven't sorted out yet.

Heh, 5+ lots. It's a little closer to twenty right now, albeit only about 13 or 14 are finished now.

I've been keeping close track of the dependencies, and 8 is the number. Shouldn't be that bad for 20 lots. I'll still ought to think twice before uploading that one to the STEX though.  :D  ::)

to be made. They are by no means finished.  :P

Also, there are 3-4 lots still planned as well, in addition to the 17 pictured.  ;)

There's no such thing as too many American football fields. ;)

These look fantastic! I especially love the two in the middle with the stands and the reddish track, they remind me of two local football stadiums. These will be a much needed and welcomed addition to rural towns and such.

I'd ask Alfred (Pat Riot) about that one, as he'll be uploading it. (his model ;)) PS: He didn't model it from scatch, I think he based it off some
google model.  :)

gah! Don't give me credit for that peice of crap model!
I found it on google warehouse, friday night, and it the spur of the moment, put it in BAT, and exported it.
Its not a very good model, but its good enough that I want to get it up there for this afternoon.

This is a water tower/lighthouse thingy Alfred made yesterday. This version (below) is a functional water tower.

Hey, this looks beautiful. &apls

There is one problem though. The wheel won't work this way.
The waterwheel of a mill like this should be in a narrow canal where you have some kind of difference in height, because the wheel is driven by the water streaming under or over it (depending on which system you use).
Title: Re: Travis' ITC lots
Post by: Pat Riot on February 18, 2008, 07:54:14 AM
hmm....isn't the wall/half the wheel supposed to be underwater? is that possible?
Title: Re: Travis' ITC lots
Post by: Krio on February 18, 2008, 08:37:36 AM
PatRiot: then you should lower the wheel ;) Otherwise excellent job both of you.
Title: Re: Travis' ITC lots
Post by: Travis on February 18, 2008, 12:36:05 PM
Thanks guys. :) Actually though, I think the wheel is supposed to be just decoration, and no longer in use. ;)
Title: Re: Travis' ITC lots
Post by: Krio on February 18, 2008, 01:22:12 PM

Yeah, but he modeled it a little too high up, so the water can't reach it. :P But its not that big a deal, I can just lie and say its decoration. ::)

Yup, just blame it all on global warming. :D

Anyway...

Here's the landmark version, which is a 1x1 lot with the building overhanging, which allows for a lot of versatility.

Happened to run across this excellent model on the STEX the other day, and, since the lot was 'basic' to say the least, I decided to give it a
makeover. Comments are welcome. ;D

Next up: Helsinki City Hall. ;)
Title: Re: Travis' ITC lots

Travis, don't do Helsinki City Hall. I'm sure you could LOT it greatly but RippleJet and I have already made it as reward building which becomes availeble after you have enough Krio bats in your city  :)

You could mod and lot something else from the prop pack ;)

Then there's this...

And lastly, some small shops:

And plopped seperately:

Next up: Modding all this stuff, which doesn't make for exciting pics, unless you enjoy looking at hexadecimal, like I do. ::)
However, the Elsbury Lighthouse (the one at the top of the page) and the Barnegat Lighthouse are already complete, and they'll soon be off for testing. :)

Later.

Title: Re: Travis' ITC lots
Post by: BarbyW on March 20, 2008, 05:19:23 AM
Krio, that is not a good reply to anyone whether they are capable of fixing it themselves or not. The upload was flawed as has been explained to you elsewhere and it is up to the team to fix and upload the fixed lot. These sort of comments do not inspire confidence for giving you TG upload rights to the LEX.
Title: Re: Travis' ITC lots
Post by: Pat Riot on March 20, 2008, 06:09:10 AM
I wasn't aware that "posts good comments" was in the LEX criteria? Do not worry travis is fixing this as we speak.
Title: Re: Travis' ITC lots
Post by: BarbyW on March 20, 2008, 06:13:12 AM
It has nothing to do with posting good comments but with the attitude expressed. It appears as though you expect people to fix things themselves while you get round to sorting it. It should not have been uploaded as it was for one thing and you haven't figured out the problem or sorted it. That has been done by xxdita and I.
Title: Re: Travis' ITC lots
Post by: xxdita on March 20, 2008, 06:19:41 AM
One criteria for LEX uploaders is that they will stand behind their releases, and do their best to resolve any issue that comes along. That is the primary difference between the LEX and other exchanges. Tech support is actually available as needed.
Mistakes will happen, as we are all human. It's how those mistakes are handled here that allows us to have confidence in any of the uploaders on the LEX.
Title: Re: Travis' ITC lots
Post by: Pat Riot on March 20, 2008, 02:56:57 PM
Well, as I was saying, Travis is working to fix this. We are working as fast as we can, and telling us we are not working hard, being sloppy, being careless, or whatever your word of the day is is not going to help. Give us a chance to fix this. Im kind of getting tired of this constant slander.

After sorting out the CTD problems, I decided to check the lot in LE. I am missing props although I have everything listed in the Dependency list. I am missing two squares on the left side of the lighthouse and a small oblong in the front centre. Please let me know what these are.
Title: Re: Travis' ITC lots
Post by: callagrafx on March 21, 2008, 05:16:43 AM
Another criteria of LEX upload rights is that you correct any problems yourselves, rather than rely on others (Barby, Nate, et al) to do it for you.  Oh, and LEX access is granted to individuals, not teams, just so we're clear on that.
Title: Re: Travis' ITC lots

On the subject, any plan for accurately scaled high school style baseball fields too?

Travis,

I may not be American, and to me football is played with a round ball  ;) , but even I can appreciate what a great job you're doing with these.   I'm in the process of something similar for community based football (sorry I can't bring myself to call it soccer) pitches, so I watch with interest.

All the best,

Paul

Really looking forward to seeing this Trav.  They look much better than my sparse lots for the fields.  All of them you've shown really bring them to life.

On a side note, given the light posts, are you night lighting the fields?  And better yet, if you are, that would be nice to see ;).

Looks great, if that is one giant lot I would like to use it because I am afraid to build with the airport pack after encountering CTD's with the one lot at a time. I wonder how long those airline companies can still hold up in real life if they hadn't held up already. I got an idea, how high can you move those airplanes up in the Lot Editor? I'm not talking about this airport, but I noticed the planes seem to be able to overhang the lot, and are possible to go airborn, via cntrl+up. So maybe if you want to try that to see how it looks and how high up you can get the plane, I didn't want to try it myself.

I have to say, with what I'm seeing around here, I'm glad to call myself part of the team. To quickly answer your question from my thread (though I'll likely answer it again next time I update), a readme would be nice. Would you be willing to do a few for a couple of bridges I have sitting around? I know that's a LEX requirement, but I don't have the time to put those things together. Just let me know what you need for them if you will make them.

The parking lots look pretty darn good. You can never have enough variety with those kinds of things, and these will certainly help get that; and the _x4 varieties are great.

Great work, and hopefully I can be on around here a bit more (and get some of these projects done).

Whew, Travis- you guys are on fire!  I can see that 3RR's high schools and parks will not go without incredibly great looking athletic venues.  One for the wish list- a seasonal outdoor ice hockey rink.  That'd have everyone in the north country saying "yah, sure."

Super stuff!

Not a bad looking office buulding Travis. My only thought is that the lot size could be scaled down a bit. It looks like the tiles on the left and across the back are just green space and, while this may be the look you're going for, would seem to limit its versaitlity in-game. Perhaps consider converting it into a 4x4. I like the parking textures though, and it's a nice choice of building.

Nice roofing materials and the pitch of the roof is nice. Not too flat, not too steep. The siding colors look good. Perhaps a couple of vent pipes or a TV aerial on the roof? A spot at the rear of the home where there is an electric meter?

It might be the jpg compression, a closer zoom would be good if you could get it, but the tiles on the roof seem to be a bit narrow. Aisde from that, this recent one looks like a good addition. I like the darker red of the siding.

Post by: Travis on March 27, 2010, 06:11:30 PM
Well, that very old submarine model I had was revived yesterday. ;D Here are some pix of the process that took me to the finished product...

A handy reference diagram for the model:

After taking the model shown above for a quick test drive with new textures, I stopped to take a pic:

I also thought that a water-plane would be useful, to give the viewer an idea of what parts of the sub would be underwater. Added that...

More texture tweaking...

...

...

I still wasn't satisfied; as it turns out I needed to get my hands dirty and do some modeling to get the effect I wanted:

Putting the thumbnail camera to use....

and, the glory shot:

This is how it turned out ingame:

Not bad, I think. :) I'll be wrapping that up as a basic water plop, but sometime in the future I'll revisit it and perhaps make an upgradeable seaport. ;)

Now, next project- the German VII Type u-boat....coming soon. ::)

Comments welcome!

you'll need to make the LOD's tight at water level if you want the ship to appear partly submerged. At the moment it appears to be over the water.

Other than that, nice job.  :)

thanks Patrick. :)

@John: well, talked to you on MSN/chat about it already. :P

@Joel: yeah- I shall revisit the sub soon. :)

While taking a quick break from the u-boats, I started another project:

Lots of small details to go, but nevertheless, I'm quite proud of the deck texture I cooked up. ;D Comments, anyone?

Anyhow... ::)

Progress is at about 85% at this point- small details, final texture tweaks and custom LOD'ing left to do.

Uh, oh, hello Travis. I'm here!
You can't see me, but I can see your work.

Pity that I know nothing about military vessels, so my contribution will remain no more than just a great WOW!
The vessels look very good to me and they will definitely be a nice addition to anyone's mailitary seaports out there. I don't have one in my region and it will propbably stay that way.

Good work and please continue!

Greetings, FrankU

Wow, what fantastic work, especially given how quickly you've been able to make it! It looks like it's already mostly done, and it's only been a few days since you started showing pictures of it! I have a few warship requests of my own, if you're open to requests (and modeling 1890s vessels); they'll allow me to make a series of historical photos for a joint project between me and emgmod, if you're curious.

Getting rather dusty in here, eh? ::)

This ought to spice things up a bit. :)

Well, as I commented before, I can comment now: this looks really great. There should be place for one of these vessels in my seaport.

Hello!  I rescently downloaded the ITC American Football Fields and I've noticed there are no lines in the football stadiums.  It seems clear I'm missing a Texture or Prop pack.  After looking at the dependencies I saw I was missing "TG Mini Props Pat Riot V1"  When I clicked on the link it took me to Simtropolis but no files where found.  It seems like the file is no longer on the site.  Any help??

All of Pat Riot's STEX uploads were taken offline the last time he (and some other TG members) was banned from ST. AFAIK they haven't been reuploaded elsewhere as of yet.

In fact only two props from that pack were used in the set- a concessions stand and a light tower- neither of which would be responsible for that issue. It's likely you missed one of Chrisadams' packs, as those were the ones that contained the actual fields. Double-check that you have them if you could, and we'll go from there. :)

I think that may have solved it Travis.  On the LEX details page it said I had already downloaded ALN Vol02.  Though, I had dowloaded it, that doesn't mean that I ever installed it.  :P  Thank you for pinpointing what pack I may have been missing, otherwise I may have never looked.  I will open my game and check to see if it worked, if you don't hear back from me, it worked.

Thanks Again!
