I know, there is already a thread on that dating back to 2010, and I perused it. But it seems to me I did exactly what Andreas says there and the extracted & renamed prop still does not show up in the L.E. It's the English Oak from RT (Riptide) MegaProp Packs vol1. It seems simple and clear cut enough, one of the exemplar is at the beginning of the series of files, the other one at the end (two iterations of the same tree), and the other SD3 and FSH files come neatly in-between, clearly identified (Group ID etc.). No XML, no LTEXT. Copy files/Paste Files/Reindex & Rebuild Directory/Save with new name and voilĂ , yes ?

Well, no.

What am I doing wrong ?

Andreas

By any chance, did you try to place the prop on a relatively small lot? Quite often, the size of a prop exceeds the size of a small lot, then the LE won't show it in the list. Enlarge the lot a little, check the list again, place the prop, then you can make the lot smaller again. If it's way too large, changing the occupant size would do the trick.

I would not think that is the problem : the props I'm trying to extract are, for the moment -- my trial run -- one of RT benches (one exemplar) and his English Oak tree (2 exemplars). And I use my 2x2 test lot...

Are you certain that the S3D models and FSH files are the correct ones? When looking at Mega-Packs, you can't assume those directly Above or Below the Exemplar are the correct ones, although usually its on of those. Check the Resource Key Type 1 property of the exemplar, it will give you the Group ID of the S3D files, which should also match the FSH files. Then you can cross reference everything.

Also double-check the Name of the Prop, maybe it's there but lost in the woods.

I thought I had copied all the files but it so happens that in this particular occurrence, the files were above the exemplars, so I had only half the files for two exemplars. BUT. It still does not work, even if I augment the size of my test lot.

Here are pics of each exemplar and its files. Maybe your (collective) eagle eye will see what I don't.

2nd exemplar :

Whilst you will need the S3D/FSH files to see the correct model, simply having the exemplars should suffice to see them in the LE. Albeit you'll get a brown box or invisible model when placing them.

When searching for the prop in the LE, try the string "RTProp" or "TEnglishOak", one of those should bring up the prop. Looking at the occupant size, make sure your lot is 2x2 in size (minimum) to ensure the prop appears, as per the info by Andreas above.

But I named them when saving them. "TL-PROPS RT English Oak". And it does not show up in the L.E. under that name and.....

(back to the L.E. with a Horrible Suspicion I'm even stupider than I thought)

...... ah, hum, wait...  OK. RTProps it is. There they are. Yes. So I did it, after all. Phew. And even the one I did before that, the bench. Eh. Who'd have thunk ? (But why don't they show up with the name I gave to the .dats ???)

Anyhoo. It works. That's enough for me. As usual, thank you, guys. :)

The name of the .dat file is completely irrelevant. The LE shows the Exemplar Name, nothing else. :) Ideally, for finding your own stuff, add some prefix like "EVAR_" or something like that in the Exemplar Name, then you just need to type those letters, and the list will jump to the first entry of your custom stuff.
