We had a nice fall after a rainy summer. Here are some impressions. The pictures were taken in a nature reserve along the river Rhine near Mainz [Google Maps Link].

Nice ones. :)

A hint for next year: Try to catch autumn leaves in backlight - then they will start to burn and glow! ;)

I got myself an early christmas present.  ()stsfd() A nice new lens for my camera. It's f1.7 aperture enables me to shoot night scenes without a tripod. However, I find the extremely small depth of field very challenging. Of course it is always better to use a tripod but in some situations it is just not possible. Like on a crowded Christmas Market:

This winter sucks. It is way too warm and rainy and the dull colors paint depressing landscapes.

Only a hint of snow on the hills.

Some days even feel like springtime...

... if it wasn't for the bald trees.

There are more than a dozen windmills on this hill and more are under construction. I guess this is the price we have to pay for shutting down our nuclear power plants.

The power line one is my favorite of the last set, I really enjoyed its composition - with the endless landscape.

I recently started playing around with the Google Nik tools for Photoshop. For learning purposes I started with my old 2007 NYC pictures. I shot those with my old, crappy compact camera (Casio Exilim EX-S500). It is amazing what the denoise and sharpening tools can do to those pictures. The effect filters are really fun to use, too. However, on second glance, I think I might have gone overboard a little. ;) I am still overwhelmed by the new functions and trying to get a better feel for what they do

For comparison I have also posted the link to the original, unedited pictures. Let me know what you think: Did the post-processing save the pictures or is it too extreme?

My favorite picture in this set. I find it unbelievable what I could recover from this really bad original. But what do you think?

Manhattan bird von MrDubert auf Flickr
The focus is wrong. It should be on the bird but it is on the second pole instead. It is not possible to correct this in software. I like it anyway.

I would really appreciate constructive criticism before I continue to edit more pictures.

Wow! That first picture looks like it was taken in the 60s or something. Very good!

Like you said 11.4 is amazing, and 11.9 is also quite the difference. I only think 11.6 is a bit overdone, and 11.10 could be better if done more like the first two.

Cheers
