Title: Upcoming BATs and lots
Post by: Andreas on April 26, 2007, 03:43:20 PM
Well, I promised new SFBT creations, so let's start a showcase. :)

Diagonal Filler Lots

T Wrecks is working on some diagonal filler lots in order to get rid of those jagged edges next to diagonal streets and roads. It started with a simple request for a triangular texture, but then we thought it might be useful to cover the basic SC4 sidewalk textures and the like, and voilà, a new set was born. The they were just submitted to the beta testers a few minutes ago. Here are some impressions:

Gasthaus Maria

Mathe Man created a great "step by step" BAT journal at SimForum, where he described the whole process from starting a model to the finished BAT. The Gasthaus Maria is a hostel/restaurant with beer garden, a very common sight in the European alps. If you don't mind the German language, take a look: http://www.simforum.de/showthread.php?t=133360 (http://www.simforum.de/showthread.php?t=133360). :) For everyone else, here are some pics. The BAT is finished as well and currently being tested.

Rail Catenaries

Kenworth is one of the rail fanatics in the SFBT, and he wanted to create realistic looking catenaries for his railroads. Not familiar with the BAT at all, he learned to create some wonderful models within a few days, and now he's developing an extensive set of all kinds of catenary props.

Hmm, the track centre ones look like they'd also work well with the GLR... Has that been considered? They very much look like they'd work well as LR overhead catenaries. I assume those ones are implemented using Type 21's? I know they'd look kindof silly in the denser parts of the network, but I still don't mind the idea of them being next to each other in those areas (my "excuse" for journaling purposes would be to permit work to take place on one section of overhead without interfering with other track pairs.

It's only a small part of my networks that are ever uber-dense (the areas in close proximity to the CBD).

As for the diagonal filler lots, they look wonderful... Which base texture ID is that, BTW on the rural ones? I'm forever trying to look for that one in the LE but I always zoom past it.  &Thk/(

Team, that are some great projects that you started. The diagonal filler lots are awesome, but also the catenaries are splendid  &apls

This site is bringing us SC5 ;)

Whew, quite a few comments here, thanks guys! :)

At the moment, the catentary props are implemented as overhanging props, like the ones that frogface created a while ago. But they will have transparent base textures, so they can be used with any terrain mod. As you can see on some of the screenshots, PEG's Alternate Rail Set Mod looks best with them, esp. when you place those that span more than two tiles. They will be placed in the power menu, which makes sense, and which isn't too overcroweded yet. ;)

I'm also pondering about making a mod that changes the type 21 exemplar files, so the props will show up automatically when you drag rails, so you don't need lots at all, but the main problem is that they will show up everywhere. It looks esp. odd if you place parallel tracks on two or more tiles (i. e. in the area in front of a large terminal station), and usually, only main lines have catenaries, while they are rarely found in industrial areas, for instance.

Considering this (and the fact that making such a mod is some tedious work ;) ), I'm not sure if I'll proceed, but I'll definitely look into it again. Once this set is finished, Kenworth wanted to create some concrete poles, which might also look good on GLR tracks (that's what crossed our minds immediately after the first experiments :) ). Some of the catenaries for the first set are still under construction, but I think they will be available very soon.

About the texture on the filler lots: That's the light green grass is used on the Maxis pastures and orchards (0x25D60000, if I'm not mistaken). It should be close to the other field textures in LE. BTW, the Cycledogg trees that are used on the diagonal filler lots use the prop family ID of my Street Tree Mod. So if you place them next to a diagonal street or road, they will show the same trees, creating a uniform look. But if you want, you can also use them without the actual mod; you only need the tree prop files that are supplied with the mod (I might include them in this set, too).

Glad to see the reactions are positive so far. :) Some additional comments on the diagonal filler set:

- It will be bilingual.
- It will not overcrowd the park menu thanks to it coming with an MML.
- The industrial diagonal fillers rely on jestarr's wonderful diagonal props, I assembled a hand-made adhoc prop family tailored for this lot which comprises ~35 different props, from cement bags to trailers or entire trucks.
- The lots will be easy to place thanks to positioning props that indicate either the position of the diagonal road (for the diagonal lots) or the position of the fences (for the fillers with orthogonal fences). Once the lots are placed, the positioning props will disappear never to be seen again.

The dependencies will be:
- SFBT Essentials (Query UI, positioning props, overlay textures, green chainlink fence, some props on the MML)
- Cycledogg's Mega Props (tree models)
- SFBT Streetside Mod (for tree prop families)
- Jestarr's Mega Props (only for the industrial lots, else they will only show the fence)
- The NAM (for the textures used on the NAM Ped Mall fillers)

Oh yes, speaking of NAM: There will be fillers included for all paved NAM Ped Mall Tiles, too. I thought it was about time to add this possibility as well.

@Jayo: Basically you can and there ARE TE Lots.
In my MD - update (which is basically a huge betatest of the catenaries) you can see all three versions:

- with lots next to the Tracks - like the way frogface was doing his catenaries which were the basic inspiration of the SFBT catenaries
- with TE - lots - Just look at the two track catenaries and the middle poles between the passenger and the freight station
- as props on network pieces - see the pics of the RR line outside the RR station

The biggest problem with TE lots is that they act as RR station and may block train traffic (at least on my PC). Because of this you should always try to have one TE lot - free track in RR stations as long as you are not sure the TE stations are TE for freight and passenger trains. They may block UDI train mission though

got a question that's kinda related to the centenaries.. does anyone of SFBT know if anyone is BATting the new Berlin Hauptbahnhof?
it's one hell of a station and i really like it and would love to see it in my cities

looking forward for release of the centenaries, will there be some mod, which automatically places the centenaries?? is this possible??
Title: Re: Upcoming BATs and lots
Post by: Andreas on May 30, 2007, 04:15:05 PM
At the moment, nobody is BATting the Berlin Hauptbahnhof, at least I'm not aware of anyone. It would be hard to create it for SimCity anyway, since the real building is slightly curved.

And yes, a catenary mod that places the props automatically is in the works, however it will take some time to finish it, and my time is pretty much consumed by other stuff at the moment.

that's true that the curve makes it a lot harder to recreate..
like that there is coming a mod! got the time to wait

The catenaries are currently in use by the beta testers, but the set is not complete. There's still some modding to be done, but due to the NAM development, I didn't have a chance to finish the job. I'm planning to finish the catenaries soon, though.

I guess some people were asking for this:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg123.imageshack.us%2Fimg123%2F5396%2Fglrinavenuestationbc1.jpg&hash=cf77e75d0810b6e631c5a7164c41ce77530b4724)

Yes, that's a GLR-in-Avenue station, for the new NAM puzzle pieces. :) And I'm aware that there's not much room in the middle of the tracks, and most likely, the Sims will have to jump backwards when the tram enters the station, but there's not much that I can do about it.  :-[ You might recognize the green roof, it's taken from the SFBT Tram Museum lot. memo will have to check the transit enabling for me, but apart from that, the station seems to work properly.

Of course, you don't necessarily need a shelter at all...

And, although the platform is narrow, it's not too far from reality. In these Prague pics you can see that the platform is about wide enough for two adults shoulder-to-shoulder or three front-to-back.

Thanks everyone! Of course I could leave out the shelter roof completely, but I figured it could be convenient, so you can see your stations better (and query them, if necessary). Thanks to memo, the transit enabling works fine now; I chose oneway roads for activating the automata paths, since avenues are basically two oneway rouads, so I guess it's easy enough to remember to draw short stretches of oneway roads through the station.

As you can see in the following pics, there's no danger that the trams could damage the shelter, or the clocks, and the sims also don't need to fear that their feet get cut off. ;) The space is rather tight, but rather than editing all paths and textures again, I can live with this minor issue. :) The only thing that would need a change is the tram skin, which lacks doors on the other side of the cars.

I suggest adding a crosswalk texture onto the avenue. I think Swamper has made some crosswalk textures. I mean, the sims has to walk across the avenue to get to the station, don't they ?  ???
Title: Re: Upcoming BATs and lots
Post by: Andreas on June 12, 2007, 04:10:48 PM
Good thinking! I'm not that good with textures though, but maybe somebody could give me a hand? I'm also thinking that I could add bus stop properties to the lot, since it's intended as a space-saver. Oh, and I should mention that you have to be careful with adjacent zones. As with every TE lot, it will block road access from the zones over a span of three tiles, so some carefull zoning is advised.

I think it's time for an update to show the current development within the SFBT. :) I've been working on the historic tram station, and consider it nearly finished now:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg522.imageshack.us%2Fimg522%2F7015%2Fsfbtglrinavenuestationfe7.jpg&hash=f747dc23ec22eb6b8d92bf99908bc6cfa9d42488)

The lot is a bit smaller (2x2) now; I've added some props and a zebra crossing texture (courtesy of cogeo). The station now features an integrated bus stop as well.

Kenworth is working on several German suburban and rural railway stations:

I think it's time for an update to show the current development within the SFBT. :) I've been working on the historic tram station, and consider it nearly finished now:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg522.imageshack.us%2Fimg522%2F7015%2Fsfbtglrinavenuestationfe7.jpg&hash=f747dc23ec22eb6b8d92bf99908bc6cfa9d42488)

Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!!!!!!

I have been needing something like that for SOOOOO long! This kind of thing, having the entrances from an overbridge, is quite common here in Sydney, and is a concept I like. An additional version with side entrances as well as overpass entrances might be a good idea also.

Another consideration might be electrified versions of the lots, but I won't pressure you guys with that. I'm used to tinkering around in the LE anyhow.

Also, the links on royal's large through station are bad. And a suggestion for the tram lot: move the bus sign props so they aren't down the middle of the pedestrian crossing. I also might suggest a slightly narrower crosswalk texture if possible. If not, that's fine.

Just suggestions. They're not formal requests.  :)

BTW, I realise you don't make the BATs Andreas, just making suggestions that may be helpful to those among your team... I'll be using most (if not all!) of those stations regardless anyhow.  :D

Andreas, is there any chance you could upload the MML for the SFBT Park Sets here?  I read on another site that you have created one, but I can't find the file to download anywhere.  I absolutely love these parks, so the MML would be a big help for me - and for many others here, I'm sure.

@all: Thanks for the compliments, I will forward them to the other SFBT members! :)

GLR versions of the new stations are certainly feasible, and I agree that the station with the elevator could be very useful for GLR as well. There's also a station without elevators that has the same design, so you can combine both along your railway (or GLR) line.

As I said, the zebra crossing texture for the GLR-in-Avenue station has been created by cogeo. I could modify it so it's a bit smaller, but for the time being, I'm using what I have. I'm still experimenting with the best position of the bus stop signs as well. ;)

The MML mods for the SFBT parks are included in the uploads that are available at the SC4D LEX. I'm planning to release the full MML package at the LEX as well, but I'll have to check the links in the readme file first (and there are lots of them!). Some users are creating a bunch of new MML lots at PEG's site at the moment, so maybe I can compile a "Vol. 2" in another convenient installer soon.

EDIT: Sorry, I mixed up the SFBT Park sets with another upload at the German SimCityKurier, where I included the MML mods. You can get the MML mods for the parks if you download the German version of the MML set (http://kurier.simcityplaza.de/details.php?file=471) - just run the installer and select only the SFBT Park Set MML mods. Those are bilingual and should show up in English in your game.

The links for the screenshots of the large railway station should be fixed as well. royal uploaded them as BMP unfortunately, because he wanted to show every detail without losing quality due to the JPG compression.

Thanks for doing that... It's not hard to see why.... I mean, those wall textures are *amazing*! As are the roof tiles... Though the concrete part of the roof doesn't quite convince me. I think all the concrete textures really need is a bit of a desaturation.
Title: Re: Upcoming BATs and lots
Post by: Andreas on July 27, 2007, 02:52:01 PM
Actually, I think it's not supposed to be concrete (highly unusual for a German building), but roofing fabric (bituminous felt) - and I agree that it needs some tweaking, like it was done for the switching stand (signal box).

Andreas,

I've always liked and used SFBT products, but the new release of your group's work in English and German at the same time is amazing.

I can't wait for new stations to play with and I really, really like Kenworth's bridge station. And I agree that there should be a GLR version of that station, as it would allow for easier grade-separated GLR lines, making it more like an above-ground subway than a tram.

Cheers,
Kevin

Title: Re: Upcoming BATs and lots
Post by: Andreas on August 26, 2007, 03:01:15 PM
@all: Thanks for the nice compliments! :) At the moment, I'm really busy with various stuff, so there are no SFBT releases at the SC4D LEX at the moment, but needless to say, the SFBT members are still working on new stuff. Once I have some more time, I'll try to update this thread with new screenshots and information. Regarding the CAM: I didn't had a chance to inspect this mod in detail so far, but it should be possible to update the pre-fab lots, so they fit better into the CAM.

However, the whole pre-fab and large lot series is consistent in itself, so you can use any of the pre-fab, 50's residentials and allotment/bungalow lots together to get a nice, consistent growth of lots. Since many of them have a unique lot size (4x5, 5x4, 5x5), it should be rather easy to control them while using the Euro tileset.

Ah ok. It's just that I'll have to change the ones that are stage 8 to stage 7 to make them work correctly (But not such a big deal, especially with the SC4 Tool). Maybe when the Xtool comes out, then I can change them to something more suitable  ;D

Just if you're wondering, the train stuff is still in the works, more about that soon (hopefully ;) ). Meanwhile, the SFBT welcomes its newest member, Khiyana. :) Some of you might have seen previews in some screenshots that Khiyana posted here at SC4D, and since then, her stuff developed rapidly. Something that I always felt was missing is a typical German bus stop for low wealth areas, such as the Plattenbauten, therefore, I'm glad that Khiyana BATted a concrete bus shelter, which fits in perfectly:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bildhoster.de%2Fuploads%2F12.10.2007_21%3A29%3A50_bushaltestellefinal_a.jpg&hash=2559a32bcb87eb1bde39976f5a0ba08a051b4a9d)

There's also a more urban version with pavement (and less garbage ;) ):

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bildhoster.de%2Fuploads%2F13.10.2007_09%3A36%3A56_bushaltestellefinal_c.jpg&hash=90144dc98da371b3d9bea1e605ac301721e29438)

The shelter is in a prop family with different on the side and at the top, so the appearance will vary whenever you plop a bus station lot. The parking lots around the station are going to be included in an extensive new park set with sand path textures. Currently, there are 31 lots in the set, plus an MML construction lot.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg527.imageshack.us%2Fimg527%2F3954%2Fsfbtparksetsandwege1od6.jpg&hash=c2b8887da0579570b8d71dc354fe0796b4b91409)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg527.imageshack.us%2Fimg527%2F5549%2Fsfbtparksetsandwege2up2.jpg&hash=1d7d3cfd5daceeead423b9cc2d6ff83d1e0e2f19)

Personally, I think the set looks great, and although there are quite a few park sets out there already, this is a welcome addition with a fresh look. The set also features transition lots to the other SFBT park sets, and a transition to the in-game streets (transit enabled, so you can connect it visually to your street network). The lots make use of several BSC Mega Prop Packs, and it also includes new props and textures that have been specifically designed for this set.

That does definitely look amazing, I have to admit, but one question...  :P

Are the parks using, what I think is called, 'reverse overlay textures' or do they allow for the customisation of the base texture?  :D  ;D

Just a question and rest assured that whatever the answer it won't make me like these less... just curious, I guess.

Looking forward to these!
Title: Re: Upcoming BATs and lots
Post by: Andreas on October 18, 2007, 10:38:32 AM
The parks use the regular Maxis medium wealth park grass texture, and the paths are overlay textures. Khiyana is also creating some brown path overlays, which are intended for low-wealth parks. More of those later! :)

EDIT: I just discovered that I made a mistake when plopping the park lots on the second picture... In the topmost row, you can see two lots that have a grass transition between medium- and high-wealth grass - actually, one of them should be a medium- to low-wealth grass transition. So you can combine this set with virtually any other park set that uses the Maxis grass textures.

ps. Ever since you released the diagonal filler lots, I changed the base texture of many of my lots to fit yours..it looks awesome-o.

I've downloaded a lot of SFBT stuff lately, I think together with BSC you are one of my biggest providers for content. I want to thank you for that! Already at the STEX I always had a look at 'Andreas Roth', that hasn't changed here :)

I just spotted this thread. The 2X3 park is very well done. The wooden play set and the play set that appears to be at a slight angle – are those new props?  If they are new bats then the scale is perfect. I like the chess set. Is that an individual prop?

I like the bus stops too.  I use bus transportation extensively in my cities. These will be nice to have.

And I know this can't be made any easier by the fact that you generously provide most in two languages. :)  However, as it is fairly demonstrated that docs within the plugins folder contribute to loading delays, I'd request that SFBT installers re-direct their doc's to an SFBT docs folder outside the plugins folder. Most other groups that provide good documentation already do this, so you'd simply be falling in with the crowd :) .

I do love the way SFBT policy makes the readme's and graphics nomenclature such that they can be blended into a master file kind of layout..

Thanks again for the good works.

Well, although the readme files and images won't delay the start of the game by more than a few seconds at most, you surely have a point. However, the SFBT downloads are designed to work in conjunction with the SC4 Startup Manager 3.0, which enables you to (de-)select individual subfolders in your region profile. So just deselect the "SFTB_ReadMe" folder, and it won't have an impact on the game any longer. :)

Well of course you may add or remove it as you wish, however I find that the SUM doesn't actually prevent the processing of the file, even though it ends up ignoring it.. at least that was my conclusion once when in a debug I left my full plugin in, but only enabled about 4 files via SUM profile .. the startup and city-load seemed VERY CLOSE if not identical to when I had the plugins fully installed via SUM.  I did not do a rigorous check of this, but this is my current impression. (PS: I use SUM almost every startup)

Really? For me, there is a huge difference when starting up the game with a full plugins folder or one where almost everything is hidden by the SUM. Anyway, I'd say just move out the readme files manually to the desired location. It's not that it takes more than a few seconds...

Just a note on SUM/NO SUM and Plugin Size
show map 40 sec  open empty city 5 sec   .0016GB  Total  45sec SUM Used to set plugin use
           "     70          "          30      2.7400GB  Total 100sec SUM Used to set plugin use
           "      6          "           4 sec   .0016GB  Total  10sec SUM not used, plugins moved
           "     18          "           4        .0016GB  Total  22sec SUM used but still same plugin (small)

SUM startup at all times was about 4 seconds.. independent of plugin size

What this shows is that whether SUM is used or not, overheads for the PLUGINS FILE size is not negligible. It still took 300% longer even with minimum file sizes. It helps for large plugin files, about half for this large folder, but clearly plugin size DOES make an impact on startup time even with SUM operating.

edit: lined up numbers.. :)

QuoteAnyway, I'd say just move out the readme files manually to the desired location. It's not that it takes more than a few seconds...

DUH! Now why wouldn't I think of that!!?? ;)
Of course this is what I have always done.. not the point really.

Well, you "can" request, but please don't expect them to be made - usually, the SFBT members don't take requests, but merely starting to do projects they do like. However, if they get excited about a suggestion, there's a good chance that it will be made eventually. :)

Well, I promised that I will start working on the SFBT Rail Catenary Mod some day, and so I did yesterday (and today):

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg265.imageshack.us%2Fimg265%2F9727%2Fsfbtoberleitungsmodv2bh3.jpg&hash=ab1c1c85af0a35887dcbdc79cc4e078caa9bb944)

No lots involved (as they are released), but this was done by creating type 21 exemplar files (aka "network lots") that put the catenary props on the tracks automatically, similar to the street tree mods. Unfortunately, it's a lot of work, and since there are about 75 different rail textures, maintaining all those IDs is a tedious work, and it will definitely take a while...

This is it! This is just what I've been waiting for! I have used the catenaries at every possible opportunity since their release and now it will be even easier, I can't wait for this, electrified rail is one of those things that should have been in the game ages ago.
Thanks for bringing a dream to life!

Title: Re: Upcoming BATs and lots
Post by: Andreas on January 11, 2008, 01:33:48 PM
Thanks, guys! :)

@Shadow Assassin: Yes, I do have catenary props for the gentle rail curve as well, so if I manage to add them, it'll be equipped with those as well. I don't know if it works (or looks) properly with the rail viaducts, though. We'll see. ;)

@Kampfhase: Well, at the moment, two railway lines that are drawn next to each other will show both the same props that are shown in the pic. I don't know if it's possible to tell the game to use those larger ones that span two tiles in this case.

Anyway, as a "side project" I saw a good opportunity to create a mod that I wanted to do since a long time. smoncrie once posted an alpha mod at ST that put grass or concrete textures below the rail texture in developed areas, so you were able to get rid of those ugly brown textures. Of course there's a mod that eliminates the texture, but it eliminates it altogether, which looks bad in rural areas. PEG's Alternate Railway Mod is also mainly intended for rural cities.

The downside of smoncrie's mod was that it only covered two textures - straight and diagonal - compared to the about 75 different railway textures that are in the game. Since I needed some rail texture overlay for my mod in order to create the type 21 exemplar files, I extracted all rail textures as PNGs (along with their alpha maps), which I used as templates for the wealth-dependent textures.

It was a lot of clicking and copy & paste work, but now I'm basically done: Each rail texture now has six different textures (grass and concrete, three wealth levels each) that shows up, depending on the surrounding zone density and wealth:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg168.imageshack.us%2Fimg168%2F1107%2Fsfbtrailtexturesmodnf6.jpg&hash=1bc0d2c0e3f2afd4f78e257d28ddc74731aa29d5)

Some people at SimForum said that the rail tracks would look rather odd on the concrete, so I made a patch that simply re-uses the grass textures for those zones as well:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg108.imageshack.us%2Fimg108%2F5205%2Fsfbtrailtexturesmod2el6.jpg&hash=6d7e6eb7455f5756f8381f9c43955671c226c27a)

Another advantage of the mod is that it corrects the odd color shift from zoom 5 to the other zoom levels. For some reason, Maxis brightened the textures for zoom 1 to 4, which always looked odd because any custom made rail textures (if not color-corrected) and rail puzzle pieces looked darker in those zoom levels. Now every zoom level has the same, slightly darker texture. I put the darker in-game textures in a separate DAT file, so if you don't want to use the zone-dependent textures, you can still have the darker rail textures without the grass and concrete underneath.

Heh, Andreas- "Upcoming BATs and lots" is way too modest.  The "SFBT Candy Store" would be more like it.  I think, more than about any other team, SFBT has been methodically and regularly been filling all those "I wish someone would..." holes in the game.

This is one person's "thank you" for that.  I can't wait to see what lies in store.

This is great! The rural textures (like grass or the alternative set) always look stupid in cities, and the concrete ones are useless outside the city boundaries. How do they behave with multiple tracks though? Like six double tracks together, if I feel like recreating my local central station?

Well, usually, the inner tracks won't get a base texture, since they don't touch any zones or lots, but there is an interesting behavior in the zoning tool that might provide a workaround. If you press the [CTRL] key ([STRG] on German keyboards) and zone "across" the rail line (starting on the tiles to the left, across the rails, and up to the tiles on the right, it will get a base texture (works for roads as well, I might add). So if you lay down the middle tracks first and then use this trick, they might get a texture which will stay if you add the outer tracks. It requires a bit of experimentation, but I had some success in trying this technique.

if i may be a n00b and ask what is the [strg] key...... nope no need... its the control key [ctrl] thankyou for sharing that with us... i never knew.. and know i know the german word for steer/control. you know what they say: you learn something new every day.

I've even seen zone transforms by holding the CNTRL key and zoning across things.. the zone won't "make" since it can't zone tracks or roads into a "cntrl zone", but it will "shift" the zone status anyways.. You can zone different densities too.. sometimes that will change things.. I've never experimented to see what the real bounds and limits of this are.

Well, I guess it's time to update this thread again, since there are quite a few new items in the works. :)

Khiyana has been working on a modular parking lot set, which might serve well as "Park & Ride" facility for the new NAM "P" Traffic Plugins. All parking lots work like the in-game parking garage, but an eye-candy version will be available as well.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg230.imageshack.us%2Fimg230%2F982%2Fparkplaetze1cc7.jpg&hash=d0604786be825634b0a02fac8e37a3936c40649e)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg230.imageshack.us%2Fimg230%2F5309%2Fparkplaetze2lz7.jpg&hash=7c992688816fe4e9bee8000f3aa895ffc1bba653)

"Modular" also means that you can select the style of trees that will appear on the lots; they are using the prop families from my Street Tree Mod, so you can either have the Maxis decidous trees, pine trees or palm trees, Cycledogg's deciduous trees, ponderosa pines or shore pines, or PEG's MTP pine trees. Furthermore, there are style plugins for the Maxis sidewalks, as well as Jeronij's and the SMP sidewalk mod.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bildhoster.de%2Fuploads%2F13.04.2008_21%3A33%3A38_ecken.jpg&hash=c5be7ea11274ce63cae9008cecd54f73ec786b9a)

There are special corner lots that will hide the grass with an overhanging prop. Also included is a modern style bus station, and a modern bike rack in the same design. Both will go well with the parking lots, as you can see in the pics above.

Mathe Man created some nice looking soundwalls, as they are very common in Germany. The set currently includes 22 different lots, which can be divided into a base set of about 10 lots, and an extended set that feature more options, such as curve lots, offset diagonals etc. (the offset diagonals are not included in the preview pic yet). An MML Mod will be included as well.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg230.imageshack.us%2Fimg230%2F6716%2Flaermschutzwaende1nk3.jpg&hash=dba5869f00b7553271a84a30bcf840969f1b8986)

The soundwall lots also feature the modular tree prop families, so you can select the style(s) you like best. A special mod that will remove all props apart from the walls will be included as well, so you can use your favorite ploppable flora to spice up the lots.

Here's some more stuff that is currently in the works:

royal has BATted a lovely train station, after the station in Ahrweiler, Germany, a small town near Bonn. The platforms have been used for a smaller train stop as well. The stats are comparable to the Maxis train station, only the Ahrweiler station has a higher capacity because of the larger building and lot. If you look closer, you'll also notice royal's signal props, which will be available in a prop pack soon.

Chrisim has not only created new items for the GLR-in-Avenue puzzle pieces of the NAM, but also extended the BSC SFBT GLR Tram Mod stations for those new items. There are two new stations for both GLR-in-Avenue and the GLR-in-Avenue roundabout, as usual in four different color variants.

Unfortunately, I don't have a release date for the mod. At the moment, I don't have enough time to work on this continuously, and I don't really enjoy that kind of modding, since it's an awefully tedious work. Obviously, the mod will have to cover all rail curves and switches, as well as the rail viaducts etc., which is quite a bit of work.

Unfortunately, the game only allows one train skin - which is too bad, but it seems that Maxis simply didn't think of the possibility of having more than one train in a certain area. Well, being California-based, I can't blame them...

Anyway, here's more rural stuff, this time created by Mathe Man. First, there's a sheep shelter, as it is common in the Lüneburg Heath in northern Germany. The sheep props are part of jestarr's "Ploppable Lifestock" pack. And below is a typical European barn, in four slightly different variations as a building family. :)

I love that tunnel portal, Andreas!  &apls

Any chance of one being made to go over roads, or does that one go over any type of network?

Awesome regional train. I dunno if you guys have ever planned something like it, but it would awesome if you made a 2-car train mod that first limited the trains to two cars, and then made the trailing car the rear facing unit. Basically have a articulated train with two cabs, it would be great for GLR

If you didn't mind all your passenger trains and monorails becoming 2 cars, it would be pretty sweet.

QuoteUnfortunately, the game only allows one train skin - which is too bad, but it seems that Maxis simply didn't think of the possibility of having more than one train in a certain area. Well, being California-based, I can't blame them...

Ironically California is one of the few places in the US you really see a variety of trains. Particularly in the Bay Area  where EA is at there are a few different rail systems.

So far, I only saw this pic, but from what I gathered, it's simply an overhanging prop that is placed aside the mountain, so it should be usable for roads as well.

Yes, I had similar thoughts as well, but then again, most trains I've seen here have at least three units. I am in a discussion with Swamper77 if there is at least an eye-candy possibility for doing trains with a rear engine as well, but so far, it's only an idea, and we'll have to see if it actually works.

QuoteIronically California is one of the few places in the US you really see a variety of trains. Particularly in the Bay Area  where EA is at there are a few different rail systems.

Well, I do know that there's Caltrain, and of course BART (although that's more like the in-game el-rail/subway), and that's probably pretty much of what Maxis was thinking of. ;)

Coming very soon: a new SFBT Tree Replacement mod that completely replaces all Maxis trees with the ones created by Cycledogg. Many thanks to Chrisim for his help with editing one of the S3D models, which was somewhat crucial to get a decent replacement for the Maxis palm tree. :)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg530.imageshack.us%2Fimg530%2F5687%2Fsfbttreereplacementmod0pk2.jpg&hash=566b957f9ddadee7fea46056f6e41a2be3e34ffc) (http://imageshack.us)  (https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg530.imageshack.us%2Fimg530%2F3732%2Fsfbttreereplacementmod0bn9.jpg&hash=566c7101d3f3c5b0e53c0d4510e30fb28ace3c42) (http://imageshack.us)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg530.imageshack.us%2Fimg530%2F1820%2Fsfbttreereplacementmod0fa8.jpg&hash=c48480bbeacfda5e782456a81a10ff17e0086ab9) (http://imageshack.us)  (https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg530.imageshack.us%2Fimg530%2F5214%2Fsfbttreereplacementmod0ob1.jpg&hash=07f032365c9a54b0e2af813b4770a0df1381c147) (http://imageshack.us)

The mod replaces every single Maxis tree, this includes props on lots, growing flora on lots and along the street network (street, road and oneway road), the Mayor Mode ploppable trees and the God Mode trees. You only need the props by Cycledogg (from the Columbus Tree Mod and from the BSC Mega Prop Pack Cycledogg), otherwise, you'll get the infamous brown boxes. ;)

The Maxis oaks kept their name, the maple trees are now beeches, and the palm trees mutated to maples - which is somewhat of an approximation of a typical central European flora, but I guess the one in Northern America is ratehr similar. If you want, you can also use a separate tree controller, or another street tree mod, and only keep the prop and lot flora replacement mods.

I tried to pick replacement trees with a similar size and shape, so they won't collide with building walls and such things. This also means that I concentrated on the smaller Cycledogg trees, only a few spruce and cottonwood trees are a bit taller than their Maxis counterparts. Since you don't need other tree controllers, street tree mods etc., this mod might be attractive for those who like a lightweight plugins folder in particular. Also, you don't have to re-plop a single lot, road etc., all trees are changed "on the fly" after installing the mod. :)

So if I make lots in LE and place the Maxis tree-propfamilies I will get cycledoggs trees? Beautiful! This is really a gorgeous mod!
I have been thinking of replacing the Maxis trees in several parks and other ploppables. Not neccessary anymore.

Spares me a good deal of  :-[

Did I vote for you already? Yeah, I guess so... &apls &apls

Post by: Andreas on October 31, 2008, 04:32:37 AM
Exactly - if you pick a Maxis prop family, you will get a selection of Cycledogg trees instead. :) The flora props will grow over the time, just like their Maxis counterparts as well. The only Maxis trees that were not replaced are the apple and orange trees, for obvious reasons, since there are no Cycledogg fruit trees (yet). I also pondered about replacing some of the Maxis shrubs, but there's probably not enough variety to replace them all - maybe this will come in the next version.

There sure are some new projects to look out for!! The train tunnel is just fabulous =)
I also have a small question...

It's just a proposal, since I wouldn't know how much work it would take, but uhm,
would it be possible to also make a texture set for the concrete sidewalk from this?:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg230.imageshack.us%2Fimg230%2F982%2Fparkplaetze1cc7.jpg&hash=d0604786be825634b0a02fac8e37a3936c40649e)

I've tried re-lotting it, but the park-area and the sidewalk are on the same texture, which makes it impossible.

Thx in advance, hope it's possible. If not, no problem! ;)

@gardenwong: Unfortunately, the catenary mod won't be released any time soon, since I'm rather lost when it comes to the special layout of the switches and such. smoncrie offered me his help a few months ago, but I haven't seen him lately.

@CarmineHilton: Like smoncrie, Khiyana (who created those textures and overhanging props) is MIA since a few months, so there won't be any additions at the moment, unfortunately.

That is a nice teaser! Is it a power plant?

Not really "by the way", I prefer the words "Important announcement":
I saw you released the Tree Replacement Mod on Simforum.de! Downloaded it yesterday and did not have time to check the results in game. I am sure it is a great leap for SC4, although it might be a small step for mankind.

Thanks!

Yes, it is a power plant, actually a recreation of the Mühleberg Nuclear Power Plant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%BChleberg_Nuclear_Power_Plant) in Switzerland. voltaic tried to recreate it as best as possible, and I think he did a wonderful job so far. :) I do plan to release the new SFBT stuff at the LEX as well, but my free time has been scarce lately, so it might take a little more time (though not that much more).

So far, voltaic has created a modular set of lots that can be pieced together in order to achieve what you can see on the screenshot. However, as this might be too complicated, we're planning to release one big lot that contains everything what you see in the screenshot (hopefully, we're not hitting the prop limit), and there will be a couple of individual lots that are functional; i. e. the water pump house in the lower right corner of the screenshot could be a large water pump, and another building might serve as a recycling center. This is still in the planning stages, though.

Title: Re: Upcoming BATs and lots
Post by: Andreas on January 10, 2009, 02:30:20 AM
Actually, this is not a tunnel, but an overhanging prop that covers the in-game tunnel. ;) It was made by SFBT member voltaic, who lives in Switzerland, where those structures are rather common. As I said, it's on hold at the moment due to RL, but it will be released eventually. The same goes for the train.

The tram shelter was BATted by Mathe Man for the SFBT Tram Museum years ago, and I used the orthogonal prop for the station on the left shortly after GLR-in-Avenue pieces were available. Recently, Chrisim created a diagonal GLR-in-Avenue station, and I remembered that I still had the gmax model of the shelter, so I rendered a diagonal version as well. :)

I hope, Andreas doesn't mind that I revive this thread, but due to my very modest BATting output I don't want to start an own topic. ;) Well, I've just finished my second Paris building. As you see, it covers a diagonal right angle:
It is inspired by an engraving from 1858 (http://www.ld-host.de/uploads/images/ed2c73620c344f2e549157cd537a095a.jpg) and thus not entirely fictitious like Rue Bourdon, my first Paris BAT (which was created in collaboration with my team fellow voltaic).

Modest output ? Maybe ... but with that quality , you don't have to be modest . Xannepan  & Porkissimo have became legendary with such BATs . As they're both inactive since a long time now , I'm more than happy to see someone to take up the torch .

I think that you know there's a team (T.W.T.) which is working to recreate the historical axis of Paris from Le Louvre to La Grande Arche ( Triumphal Way Project ).That's  an extensive and a very long running project and if you intend to release some others parisian BATs ( that's your second one indeed ), I would like to invite you to join this team . Don't be afraid of ; you wouldn't have to hurry and you would keep totally free about your choices of BATs ( they don't need to be necessarily the real ones along the axis ) . I would just ask you to open a BAT thread like the others members of the team did , keeping the SFBT seal . The T.W.T. is an informal team having already BSC & TSC members ...

Just think about it . Anyway that's more than obvious that your BATs are already indispensable to the project . ;)

It's actually the second finished one because for several reasons there is no progress regarding the second started BAT (http://img682.imageshack.us/img682/9324/27017a.png). One of these reasons is the nasty gmax mirror tool bug. Objects mirrored with this tool can't be textured properly - I didn't know that and used it extensively. So the affected parts have to be detected and replaced.

In short: I want to continue BATting Parisian w2ws and would feel honoured if I could be a member of the T.W.T. :)
