After 3 attempts at rending this mega model (wasted 27 hours) I have come to the conclusion that it cannot be rendered as one piece.
I will have to split it in at least 3 pieces and then try again.

I even tried scaling it down 50%, render it and use the Tweaker to upscale it back to 100 but the result is horrible.

Stats. 17 tiles long. 4 tiles wide and 4 tiles high.

A tad over half a million polys. I have optimized everything possible.

It includes dozens of nightlights as well.

I will not give up that easy.

I have to ask, wouldn't it be possible, to use Amazon or Google rented processor power to render the models? I have no idea how this works, it's just asuggestion. :)
Back to the game after nine years - and everyday I find something totally new! :)

paddy0174 I doubt very much that is possible.

SM2 Cooper Tires is now a reality.

Would you mind telling me, what you would need? I'd suspect a running Windows 10 (would Windows Server be ok, too?) with installed 3DSMax. What else is needed?

I just took a short look at Google, they advertise exactly this use case: rendering for media and entertainment industry ;) You could rent up to 96 (!!!) virtual processors at once, together with say 50GB of space.

Edit, found a better link:

I'm sure, Amazon with its AWS cloud services offers something comparable.

I know, these processor power is not free of charge, but at least I would be happy to sponsor a rendering session. You could "offer" a sponsor link in the description of the lot? :) I know that from park benches here in Germany. :D :D :D
The prices are pretty cheap, between $0,01 up to $3,80 per hour. If I calculate your assumed PC power and 27 hours, my guess would be around six hours, max ten hours, for the tanker model. Would be something around $15 to $25... As I said, I'd love to see a "sponsoring by model". :)

Paddy0174 I'm running ancient software (Gmax, XP etc) no chance of that happening but I'm not giving up on the ship model. As I said in a previous post I will cut the model in 3 or 4 pieces and then render them much faster and in HD as well. I will do it when I have time.

Here is another. SM2 Hydrocracking Unit Grab it here https://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=3883

Thanks Papa-J

I redesigned the bridge and started work on a new prop based canal system...this is all Work In Progress at the moment. I'm experimenting with seamless textures and LODs

Hi Nick!

First of all, that bridge is awesome! Beautiful creation. I hope we will see it to be released one day. The prop base water texture lovely, and specially like how your set-up is working together with these water tile props either with the highwall or the simple canalwalls. I hope you will manage to go through on a whole set - if there is such a plan - (ortho, corners, diagonals etc...)
Always nice to see some new canal development for SC4. Also I like that it is rather neutral, so no specifically urban or rural, it can be both (earlier we saw a few canal developments from other creators - non of those have been released -, but those were mostly urban-style). So keep up the good work!

by the way, you've got a +1 for your latest Mega Prop Pack. Thank you very much!
