These are the very first photos I will show of my Japan recreation.

This is a photo of the city of Niigata (unfinished), and the city of Honoshima, which is right off the coast of Niigata.

This is the Kanto Region, with Mount Fuji showing off in the distance.

This is the Southern part of the island of Kyuushu. The cities here are: Kagoshima, (to the left and has two parts) Miyazaki, (to the right) and Higashimorokata (The tiny town in the middle)

This is the Northern part of Kyuushu. You can see the entire city of Miyazaki down there.

This right here is the Aichi plain, in  the Chubu region. The city that is currently there is called Mie. I will be building Nagoya later.

Anyway, this is the first update. In the next one, I will be showing the actual cities themselves from close up, and I will show my cities progress. Please comment and like!  ;D

Welcome to the MD world. :)

That is a quite nice region you've shown here.
I'm looking forward to the close up. I'm interested to see the developments you'll do on Toyama and Akita. :)

You've made a great start on a lovely and challenging region map. I'm eager to see your cities in close-up views. Based on what I see here so far, I'm sure they will be beautifully crafted.

Since you wanted to see what my cities looked like, here it is.

Here is a little snippet of a suburban part of Niigata. This is not a true update, just a small one to show you a little part of what my city looks like. I'll have a true update later. Please comment and like. :)

Great start. Like what I see.

Two things:
Turn off the grid, by press G.
Turn off the UDI-icons in the UDI menu.

Post by: art128 on June 24, 2014, 04:19:50 AM
When showing developments, I don't mind the grid. :) However I agree with Vester about the UDI icons.

Nice work on that picture, love the area.

Looks like you've got quite a few well designed regions. Can't wait to see more close-ups.

Please correct me if I am wrong; I can read some Kanji, all Hiragana and all Katakana, but is your SC4 Dev name Yomi-san?  I also spent 14 years stationed in Okinawa then Yokosuka Japan.  Your detail is AMAZING and your region especially in the Kanto area is spot on.  Keep up the great work and I will definetly be looking out for this MD.

Another update! Thanks for the comments guys! Oh and, dyoungyn, my name is Yumi-chan in Romaji, not Yomi. Anyway, onto the pictures!

This is again, a suburban area of Niigata. Many houses in the area. There is a High School to the far upper left. There are some shops on the road there, and even some shops on the neighborhood streets (You see that in Japan, those family owned shops)

As you can see, the area we were just looking at was the area we were in before. Now its just a bit more developed. Mid rise apartments have begun to spring up. Probably due to the nearby train station (You can't really see it that well, but it's on the far right).

This right here is an example of the rural to suburban transition. As you can see, there are some wildgrasses I placed there.

This is an area near the downtown. There is a driving school located here, and many apartments.

This is Niigata's downtown area. A lot more commercial than seen before.

This is what Niigata looks like now. It took me a good 3 hours to build that. (Not counting the crash which made me lose ALOT)

So this update was somewhat big. In the next update, I will show you the rural parts of Niigata, and maybe even one of the other cities! Hope you enjoyed, please comment and like. And if you are wondering about where I even got the mods from, you are free to ask. :)

素晴らしい.  What a fantastic start.   &apls  Epic use of custom buildings; good job capturing the location.  As your work progresses, keep surfing the content exchanges; you'll find more and more mods and such that will help you in your recreation.

And hopefully you will be able to fix your crashing problems.  Look for posts about it; over the years the community has found out how to end those.

Fantastic project !! I like so much to see how the people make its own Japanese regions or projects, but especially I like to see how the people from Japan make regions inspired by their own country, so I will be here watching every update because I really enjoy with this kind of MDs.

Another update! Thanks for the comments! I finally got rid of those terrible UDI icons. They were bugging me to death. Luckily, there were no crashes this time. Next time, I will show you the other cities. There was a lot to show you in the rural Niigata area. So on to the photos.

This is the first rural area in Niigata I will be showing you. Just a small little town with some old houses, and some rice farms.

This right here is part of the downtown area. Still extremely rural. If you look off to the left, you can see a creek running through, surrounded by trees.

This is the other part. Once again, small shops. There is a MaxValu supermarket in the downtown.

This is the rural part's rural  train station. Lots of trees around.

Another extremely small town. The train runs through it, but there are no stops.

Hope you liked! Please comment, like, and feel free to ask where I got the mods from!

Another greay update.
One thing, I don't see any trains on the tracks. Maybe you need to change your NAM automata plug-in.
Mine is called: NetworkAddonMod_Automata_Plugin_Radical_Automata24.dat
Would love to see one of my Japanese trains running round in your region:

Sorry for pushing my trains. :P

Good to see you figure out how to get rid of the UDI Icons.

If you want, you can get ride of the small minimize sign: Minimize Button Remover (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2865)

The rural area looks great.
Would have loved to see one or two old houses by the isolated field on the train station picture. :)

Thanks for the comments!
vester: the reason why you didn't see the trains in the shot is because all the trains were making trips around in the main city. And I did download one of your trains.
Anyway, this shows some more rural snapshots. Enjoy.

These are the first buildings you see before entering Niigata. The people on this small town all go to Niigata to work since it's mostly houses out here.

Niigata's outskirts. Greenhouses and farms thrive out here.

This is the country road, leading from this small town, to the almost complete wilderness.

As you can see, this part has a pond. a few shops, and houses, and some rice farms.

A closer view of the pond. A small meadow with wildflowers is near the pond. The creek from before feeds into this pond.

More of the pond and trees.

A very large rice set of rice fields.

This is another part of the rural area, a small part, but I felt like putting something else there. Anyway, comment, like, and feel free to ask about where I got the mods from!

This is the second to last update of the city of Niigata. After these last two updates, I will work on a different city. ;) Enjoy these photos.

This is another suburban snapshot. Most of the people in this area prefer to walk, due to how close everything is. There are not many cars on the road, but there are many people out walking.

More apartments here. Many houses, and once again low car traffic.

More apartments and a hospital. Some shops and homes.

This is the last large commercial patch you see before exiting Niigata. There's even a rice field nearby!

I hope you enjoyed this update. Comment, like, and feel free to ask where I got the mods from!

I like how the railways circulate through the city. :) Would look even better if you use the wide curves. :)

What are these apartments blocks? I've never seen them before..

A beautiful, modern city! For me the atmosphere like very much! Yet another great update.

Still no trains (and only a few cars)   :(  That brings it a bit down in my book.

Maybe change NAM automata plug-ins.
I use a plugin called: NetworkAddonMod_Automata_Plugin_Radical_Automata24.dat
That gives me a lot more traffic including trains.

Dante: You don't need to go far away from the city center before you see a lot grade crossing like that.

Hello! Another update. A HUGE one at that. The city of Niigata is all done! I will show it to you after I reply to the comments:

vester: With the new downtown area, the traffic has drastically increased, including trains. You can see more info below.

art128: If you're wondering where I got them from, here is the link: http://simcityedit.com/simedit/lev-bbs.cgi?bid=SC4=2-4&skin=skin/config/=/simedit/skin/config/&style=1&page=0&ppid=1247331899960803#1247331899960803

dante: If you've ever been to Tokyo, or any big city for that matter, it won't take long to see a lot of road crossings. I'm sorry if you don't like them.

On to the pictures.

The city of Niigata, finally finished. It is completely developed.

This is Niigata's true downtown area. It has some  tall buildings. Due to this new area, a lot more cars and trains have been driving around the city. Over 1000 people use the train (maybe even over 3000!) and there are more apartments and high rises.

This is the city's largest train station. Since it is next to the Mall, and near the apartments, it gets a LOT of business. 3000 people each day commute here!

Now this is what's REALLY a downtown!

More of the downtown's resedential area. Very cluttered with apartments and hi rises.

More resedential.

Otomo Systems (The round building) has opened up here. The commuters on the train are riding there.

The department store Poppo has also opened up!

Alright, so Niigata is done! That was the biggest update I've had so far. Whenever I finish a city, I will do a huge update like this, for future reference. I really hoped you enjoyed watching the city of Niigata evolve, and I hope that you will continue to stay with my until the end of this MD.

Since we are done with this let me tell you some basic information about this city:

Population: 59,141
Density: 7,885 people per square km (12,857 people per square mile)
Land area: 7.5km (4.6mi)

Please comment, like, and feel free to ask about where I got the mods from!

I am sorry that I have been gone for a long while. ()sad() I was on a vacation to America. It was a very good chance to use my English skills. ;D I was also with some of my friends. We went to New York. During the time I was there, I got little to no computer time. I arrived back in Hiroshima a few days ago, so I got some time to use my computer. So now, I will continue updating regularly again! Now, onto the new update!

This is what the area looks like now. As you can see, there has been some expansion. We will be looking through all of these new areas.

This is part of the town we will be looking at; Kawasaki. It is to the left of Niigata. It is completely surrounded by mountains. A 1 lane road leads here. There is not a huge number of people leaving the city because of all the jobs here. More and more people are moving here, so the city may have to expand the road.

This is the upper part of Kawasaki. It is mostly suburbs. Even though this isn't the town center, the tallest building in town is located here. It is a hotel, called "Hotel Kawasaki". The hotel is rated 3 stars. A good place to stay if you ever decide to come to this ocean town. You can get a view of the whole entire city from the top!

This is the town center. Plenty of places to shop! There is also some industry here, more than 2500 industrial jobs! Around here lies the city's 2 schools, the city's shrine, and the local supermarket, MaxValu. To walk down here from the surrounding houses and apartments north is about 6 minutes or less. To get there from the western part of town, it takes about 4 minutes or less. The reason for the short walking distances is that the city is smaller than 1 square kilometer. Very small town.

This is another suburban part of the city. The Kawachi drugstore is off to the East. There isn't much to see on this side, mostly just houses.

This update was somewhat wordy, and that will be how some of the newer updates will be. I really just want to explain more about the city itself, so this seems more interesting. Anyway, comment and like, and feel free to ask where I got the mods from!

Another update! We will be looking at Kawasaki once again. Now we are onto the other part of the city. Enjoy.

This is the other part of Kawasaki. The smaller part is over to the right.

This is Kawasaki's downtown area. There is a a mall here for your shopping needs. They serve the famous Kawasaki sushi there. It is very, very good! Hotel HH is also here.

This is directly on the other side of the downtown. It is again, a suburban area. This is the only place in town where you can go to a pool. During the Summer, the place is PACKED. The traffic isn't that good either, as people from the other part of the city commute here.

This is a close up of part of the downtown. I really love how this area turned out. I did this almost perfectly.

Another part of the downtown.

Hope you enjoy! Comment, like, and feel free to ask about where I got the mods from!

I would also appreciate negative criticism. If there is something you don't like, or something you think that I am doing wrong, please tell.

Really nice couple updates, Kawasaki is a really nice city.

I think you should change the color of the water. It might just be an opinion,  but the general consensus is that the default maxis water is... well kind of ugly. :) Look at Gobias' Seto Inland Sea (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2839), I quite like it.

Also one thing I would super love, try to work a bit the river beds and coast line. Make some parks, beach, use some seawalls (Uki's are nice, but there are of course several others. :) )

Very nice cities!  &apls

Couple of pointers since you asked for it: turn off the grid when taking pictures (press 'g') and preferably turn on the shadows. Makes for prettier pictures imho. And as Arthur said the waterfronts could do with some embankments and/or ports. Other than that it's a very good region, I'm looking forward to see it develop!

THIS IS NOT AN UPDATE. ()sad()

I bet this will be a huge surprise for you. I have decided... that I am starting over. I bet that you're asking, "Why are you starting over? What was wrong with your region?" I will answer that question. Unfortunately, the map was far too exaggerated. What I mean by, is that it was too small. It was so small, that I could only put a small town where Hiroshima is supposed to be.

Also, the cities. I need to improve on them a little. When the next update comes, you will see A TON of changes. This will be my second attempt at making Japan. Anyway, ユミーちゃん, signing off.

Yumi-chan,

I always thought Hiroshima was bigger than you created.  Regardless, I love your Diary and your  details are spot on.  Hate to see you start over again and I do feel your pain as I am doing the same re-doing all my maps on a region I have been working on now for 13 years.

Good luck to you and looking forward to more updates.

Thanks dyoungyn for your comment! It must've been really bad re‐doing 13 years of work... Mine was more like a month and a  1/2... But still...

This is my second attempt at my Japan recreation. Everything is a lot bigger, and more challenging now, just the way I like it! ;D This will be a very short update as I have been very busy this week. Anyway, this update is on Hiroshima! (広島「ひろしま」) Hope you enjoy.

Welcome to Hiroshima! As you can see, we are in a somewhat suburban area.

Where we are right here is just getting out of the main city. Still a lot of tall buildings around!

As I said, very, VERY, short update. I really didn't have anything to talk about in these areas, because there were no important landmarks or historic things yet. (AND I just started to build city too) I really hope you enjoyed, comment, like, and feel free to ask about where I got the mods from! Personally, I think these cities look a little bit better than the others. But what do YOU think about it?

I would also appreciate negative criticism. If there is something you don't like, or something you think that I am doing wrong, please tell.

This isn't an update. Nor is this a another attempt.

This is about the Hiroshima Peace Memorial! This is my very first BAT that I have shown other people. I started to BAT stuff, since I couldn't find the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, or the Museum, or the Atomic Dome. Sorta blocky, but I'm satisfy. When I rendered it in GMAX it seemed just fine! I thought about releasing this on the LEX, but I can't, due to a glitch. Here it is.

From here I'm able to see it well. But when I zoom in...

THIS HAPPEN! :'( Is there any way to fix this?

If you have any idea why this is happening, or how this is triggered, please tell me! I really want to have this in Hiroshima! :'(

Very nice work so far . I really like your work and you have made quite an impression ;D

The Memorial that you are trying to model may not have all the necessary LODs to show up in game. There should LOD3, LOD4, and LOD5. I am only guessing here but you may have to select the Re-fit LOD's Button to get LOD3, LOD4 and LOD5.

I have attached an image of the parameters menu to help you.

Hope this helps.

An update! Thanks for your comments! Now I will just reply to them:

eggman121: Thanks a LOT for this comment! &apls Hopefully, following your comment, I will be able to succesfully make it show up correctly in the game.

vester: Thanks for your comment as well! I will do this too.

In this update, Hiroshima experienced a huge residential and commercial boom. You will see below.

This is one of the areas that experienced a HUGE residential boom. The population went from 19,000, to 34,000 people in a year! And what this meant was more services and more expenses for the growing population.

This is another place of the population boom. New hi-rise danchi and apartments are showing. Hiroshima stadium is also here. (I know that doesn't look anything like Hiroshima Stadium. And there were no mods for it either, so that means that I'll have to BAT. Hopefully I will fix it. I want to have some of my own BATS in my city.)

The suburbs have grown as well.

This is once again, a suburban part of Hiroshima. There is a canal and a school here. There is also a supermarket and a hospital.

This right here is probably the most unfitting place for a radio/cellphone tower.

Remember this place? A new Police Station was built here to accomadate all the crime. (Did I use the word "accomadate" right?)

I just put this here: The Hiroshima Shinkansen! No trains running on it though, due to there being only one station.

This is what you've been waiting for: The Region View! (Sorry for asking, but if you want to put up the whole region in a single picture, how do you do it?)

This is Hiroshima's transportation system. It works pretty well. The average road capacity is 10%.

Whew! That was a large update! Anyway, since this is done, I'm going to go and try to fix my BAT problem. Hope you enjoyed! Comment, like, and feel free to ask about where I got the mods from!

I would also appreciate negative criticism. If there is something you don't like, or something you think that I am doing wrong, please tell.

Another update! Thanks for your comments guys! Thanks to compdude for Region Census.

Remember how I said in the last update that there was residential AND commercial expansion? This update will be showing some of the commercial expansion.

This is one of the places of the commercial expansion. Many offices and shops have appeared. Even with all the commercial there is here, this is NOT downtown. Downtown will be south of here, taking up 70% of a large city tile (A large city tile is 16km, medium city 4km, and a small city 1km.)

This right here is the center of the commercial patch. A foreign hotel company has arrived here called Sokos Hotel Viru (To the left, the white-ish blue-ish building)

Another commercial patch. Honestly I don't like how this one commercial patch turned out. I think it is a bit too square. I would like to see some suggestions on how to improve this commercial patch.

But also with the commercial expansion comes the residential expansion. These are the houses and apartments which surround the first commercial patch.

Hope you enjoyed! Comment, like, and feel free to ask about where I got the mods from!

I would also appreciate negative criticism. If there is something you don't like, or something you think that I am doing wrong, please tell.

Nice update. Your residential areas are really well made.
Title: Re: Japan Recreation(日本娯楽)
Post by: ユミーちゃん on July 31, 2014, 03:27:26 PM
Another update! Thanks for your comment. More commercial and a little bit of industrial and more residential.

This right here is the dense commercial, the densest in the whole city.

With the commercial boom came industrial. But however, there is less of it.

There are now so many jobs that only 60% of all the workplaces are filled. So I put a TON of residential to fix that problem. And there are still a lot of jobs availible (Did I spell that correct?)

Here, the Shinkansen runs through one of the new neighborhoods. Hiroshima is the only city in the whole region, so right now it is only used to get around the city.

This was a short update. I am still working on my BAT. Hope you enjoyed! Comment, like, and feel free to ask about where I got the mods from!

I would also appreciate negative criticism. If there is something you don't like, or something you think that I am doing wrong, please tell.

For someone who just started over on a new region, you're a fast worker. I like your approach to city building, but you might like to try for a less-griddy look. The diagonal rails do help add interest, though. Of course, I've never seen Hiroshima, so that may be the way it's built. Why not show us some RL photos of it? I might be able to help you out with BATting if you'll give me some photos of what you want and tell me what size you want them. Just send me a PM.

Messa have-a question :) What avenue mod are you using for the diagonal texture there (for the trees I mean). I looks great!

Also- Your residential and commercial districts look fantastic! I like how there is just a touch of industry (or possible those are utilities?) in the center of your city. It breaks up the sea of skyscrapers quite nicely.

And as for the criticism -  I would personally recommend that you try to put in some of those smooth curve pieces for the bullet train lines (just a minor cosmetic thing though - your cities will still look good without them ;) ).

This is not an update. This is about your opinion on my city design. Let me reply first:

cmdp123789: Thanks, I will.

Jmouse: You think so? Usually, I leave a few hours for SimCity 4 (When I have time), but I guess you could say I'm a fast worker. In one of my parts of Hiroshima I used curve pieces and diagonals (new area). Se parts of Hiroshima are kind of griddy, put other parts, not so much. Thanks for asking to help out with my BATs. I really appreciate it.

trabman11: It is Nekopanchi-san's street mod (猫パンチのストリートモッズ). You can find it here: http://hide-inoki.com/bbs/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=856&sid=0f7563cd6885a3ccc7e19389e4824899
I will try to use more curved lines, you're right about that.

This right here is a rural town in my Testing region. The point of this region is to either test out new mods or test out and see city designs before putting it into the final product. Do you think this is a good design for when I get into my rural town? Please tell your opinion. Like it, hate it, tell me.

I think that you should have the agricultural sections of the town more on the outskirts (or at least further away from the denser parts) of the city. Also, I thinks you should try zone a bit more low density, as it is a rural town. Other than that this looks pretty good.

Go take a look at Japan's rural side, you'll see it isn't strange to have buildings right next to rice fields. ;)

I would advise you to grow some farms from the game. Uki made some really nice japanese farms that would look good in your creations too. I use them very often recently and they fit quite nicely in rural to urban zones. :)

You're the one from Japan, you should know better than us how to do it! ;D (just kidding ;) )

Hi, I am back! Sorry for not updating for a little while.*For those who didn't get replies to their comment in the last update, I edited it, and replied to all of you. Go check it ;)*
Now, replies:
sim_link: Thanks, I'm very glad that you like it.
art128: Thanks for the advice, I will definitely do it! And also, I got rid of that disgusting Maxis water. Thanks for suggesting me to get a water mod, or else I would have still been using the Maxis water.
trabman11: You are right about the low density, I'll have to do that as well.

Anyway, this update will talk about the new areas that I have built.

This is what Hiroshima looks like now. It is a lot bigger now, I made some expansions. The new area is mainly residential, as even with all this new expansion, we still have 56,580 people, and 81,038 commercial and industrial jobs, so there will be a lot more residential zones in the future.

This right here is the entire commercial strip, which is broken up by the forested mountain.

This is the new area. It is mainly residential, with a bit of commercial.

Now some close-up shots.

A shrine in Hiroshima, close to where I live. It is looks almost exactly like this. If you want to compare, look at the image I took below.

A commercial strip with scattered drug stores in the area. Many small shops.

So that was the update. Comment, like, and feel free to ask where I got the mods from!

I would also appreciate negative criticism. If there is something you don't like, or something you think that I am doing wrong, please tell.

well just some suggestion, maybe add some mmp nearby the riverside such as rock, sands or maybe some shrubs, that would add more realism to the riverside..  ;D

Sorry! I have been very inactive for a long while! There has been growth, around 18,000 people, as there are now 77,302 people in Hiroshima!

REPLIES:

noahclem: Thank you!
Kisa Atsuko: あなたの "すごい"!お褒めいただきありがとうございます!Thanks for your suggeston as well! I won't be adding rocks, as that goes better with the sea (ocean), but I will probably add the shrubs and/or sands. I think it will really help the city look more beautiful!
dyougyn: Thank you for your comment.
Dantes: Thank you! Yes, of course I will continue with this as I am quite satisfied with it. And when you say, "implemented great ideas", what exactly, you mean?
trabman11: Thank you! I based it off of cities designs I see in Hiroshima.
vester: Thanks! I'm glad you think my work is good.
art128: You liked the little shrine, didn't you? Heres a question for everyone; do you want to see more places similar to that, also attached with a photo of the location like that? Please answer when you get chance.

Here comes the update! (I turned on shadows. They make the city look a lot better. And even while I'm playing the game with shadows on, my PC does not lag. Yay!)

The right side of the picture is new development. The Shinkansen runs through here.

広島城(私が知っている...それは...のように見える大阪城... ()sad())

Hiroshima Castle (広島城 Hiroshima-jō?), sometimes called Carp Castle (鯉城 Rijō?) was a castle in Hiroshima, Japan which was the home of the daimyō (feudal lord) of the Hiroshima han (fief). The castle was constructed in the 1590s, but was destroyed by the atomic bombing on 6 August 1945. It was rebuilt in 1958, a replica of the original which now serves as a museum of Hiroshima's history prior to World War II.

Mōri Terumoto, one of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's council of Five Elders, established Hiroshima castle in 1589 at the delta of the Otagawa river. There was no Hiroshima city or town at the time, and the area was called Gokamura, meaning 'five villages.' Beginning in 1591, Mōri governed nine provinces from this castle, including much of what is now Shimane, Yamaguchi, Tottori, Okayama and Hiroshima Prefectures.

When construction on the castle began, Gokamura was renamed Hiroshima, as a more impressive name was called for. "Hiro" was taken from Ōe no Hiromoto, an ancestor of the Mōri family, and "Shima" was taken from Fukushima Motonaga who helped Mōri Terumoto choose the castle site. Some accounts state that the name 'Hiroshima', meaning literally 'wide island', comes from the existence of several large islands in the delta of the Otagawa, near the castle's site.

Following the battle of Sekigahara in 1600, Mōri was forced out of the castle, retreating to Hagi in today's Yamaguchi prefecture. Fukushima Masanori became the lord of Aki and Bingo provinces (which today comprise Hiroshima prefecture, and of Hiroshima castle). However, the new Tokugawa shogunate forbade any castle construction without permission from Edo; this was part of how the shogunate kept the daimyō from gaining power and overthrowing the shogunate. When Fukushima repaired the castle following a flood in 1619, he was dispatched to Kawanakajima in today's Nagano prefecture. Asano Nagaakira became lord of the castle.

From 1619 until the abolition of the feudal system during the Meiji Restoration (1869), the Asano family were lords of Aki and Bingo provinces.

After the Meiji Restoration, the castle came to serve as a military facility, and the Imperial General Headquarters was based there during the First Sino-Japanese War in 1894-1895. The foundations of several of the GHQ outbuildings, just a few hundred paces from the castle's main tower, remain today.

The castle was destroyed in the atomic bomb blast of August 6, 1945. For many years, it was believed the castle structure was blown away by the explosion that destroyed Hiroshima, but newly discovered evidence suggests the explosion only destroyed the lower pillars of the castle, and the rest of it collapsed as a result.[1]

The present tower, constructed largely of concrete, was completed in 1958.

This is not an update.
This is about my B.A.T. work!! ;)
I got it to work quite a while ago, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial is in the game. But this is to show you my latest B.A.T.
TOTO Shopping Mall. TOTO is usually a toiletry store, but sometimes there is a shopping mall that shows up and has its name on the front and is called the TOTO Mall.

TOTO Mall Statistics:

Jobs Maximum: 56
Wealth: $$$
Land Value: High
Lot Size for version 1 and 2: 3 x 3

Here is the Mall! Enjoy.

This picture right here is kind of a teaser for the next update. The new building is located here. It is the TOTO building. I will show you it from all sides.

Now, here is the second version. I do not need to show you the sides, as it is the same building, just the lot is different.

I made this because there was a lack of Japanese shopping malls in Simcity 4. There was ユニー, but the website it was on got taken down :(.

Questions for the Audience:

What did you guys think? Did you you think it is good for the second time ever BATing a real building?
Do you think I should upload this? If so, which version would you like to see more?

If you have any suggestions, please say so.

The next update should come next week, or the week after next. It is going to be LARGE update! ;D

Title: Re: Japan Recreation(日本娯楽)
Post by: Shark7 on October 05, 2014, 10:42:13 PM
OK, your bat is in scale, and looks good.  However, the roof is bothering me.

It appears that it is a 2D texture for the roof of rooftop parking.  The shadows end up falling the wrong way depending on the position it is viewed from.  Also, the size of the building itself makes it seem that it doesn't have room for much more than the vehicle ramps to the roof (could be an optical illusion though).

My suggestion:  change the rooftop texture to a plain asphalt roof, and go with the 2nd lot option with the large ground level parking area.

And its not just your building...I've found most of the parking lots in this game look too small to be functional.

Overall, I'd give you 4/5 on this which I would go up to a 5/5 if the roof had a different texture, and would like to have it for use in my own game.  I look forward to you releasing this in the future.

For a second creation, that's excellent. The scale is good as shark7 said, but I'm more concerned about the textures. To me it seems to be cubes/rectangles with a photo texture applied on them. I don't think that's the good approach for creating BAT in SC4.

Work on the details. Make the windows on the bat itself, same for the doors and the text signs. It'll look much better. Also, as cars are really difficult to make in 3D, I suggest you make the parking lot on the roof, but instead add the cars as props by making the LODs as tight as possible. :)

If you have any trouble, don't hesitate to ask. :)

I agree that the building is really excellent for a second attempt and very nice without qualification ;)  If you render it in HD I expect that I'll make use of it. Lotting (including the parking space issue) and modding are a real hassle to do well. If you don't want to take the time to do that I hope you still release this but I hope you decide to put the same effort into modding and lotting your nice building as you put into your great MD ;)

Textures need a bit more work.

As Arthur said, the windows need to be set into the walls, around here they are about 5-10 cm into the walls:

On the textures:
Tone down the white, so its not so bright.
Add a gradient to the textures.
If you use Photoshop
- make a new layer,
- make a gradient in that layer, going from white to black, seen from the top.
- set the layers blending mode to multiply (http://pe-images.s3.amazonaws.com/photo-effects/black-and-white/luminosity/photoshop-multiply-blend-mode.gif)
- try different transparency settings till you find one you like.

Thank you for all your helpful comments!
I haven't issued an update in like, a month or so :-[? I'm sorry. I had a lot of school work during this time because, I have to focus on getting into a good college and what not. I am afraid that I can not promise any frequent updates ()sad()
In this update, I will show more real life pictures, as you guys requested. I will even show you the inside of a building!

The city has been experiencing a ton of growth, lately from 70,000 people in the last update, 126,538 people in this update.
Hiroshima Statistics:
Total Population: 126,538 ppl.
Urbaniztion Promotion Zone Density (Gray): 13,319 ppl. per square kilometer.
Total City Density (Whole City): 7,908 ppl. per square kilometer.
Total City Area: 16 kilometers.
City Area: 9.5 kilometers.

Beautiful update. Don't worry about being away for some time, school's more important than a game. (And I say that while having failed twice my exam..)

Anyway, great update. I like the commercial streets a lot. I'll have to use them more in the future as they give a really nice atmosphere to the city. Though, that poor old building being completely blocked by the covered street.. It's a bit of a shame to see such a nice building being blocked like that.

The "Fireworks" Cafe looks like a nice place to relax.

The covered street is a nice touch. Nice set of images as well, I'm by no means an expert on Japanese or Asian inspired SC4 cities but I do enjoy seeing them and this one seems rather good with a lot of realism.

Your city and your region to be great. (https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ld-host.de%2Fuploads%2Fimages%2F1592b5e9b766142f97c6e2ad45358af8.gif&hash=a885c0227e73e10507ea32db9fe5f49269c4849b) Why your high web has a bridge crossing I do not understand. But I like the urban Bebbaung. You have implemented impressive! I look very much like your pictures! REPLIES:

art128: Thank you for your comment! Of course, I have to study a lot on them. Reality always comes first, it will hit everyone at some point. And yes, the Hanabi cafe IS a nice place relax, I very much enjoy being there.

Kisa Atsuko: That roofed commercial area was a touch of realism. They are always very interesting places, with lots of people inside of them too. Thank you for wishing me luck on my exams!

belfastsocrates: Thank you for your comment! I hope you continue to stay with me until the end!

noahclem: I'm glad that you liked to hear about my experience with places.

vester: Thank you so much for telling me how to change the name! I should give you a hug!

Dantes: I'm glad that you think that my city and my region are great. The high web bridge crossing? That is a crossing between 2 different tracks, the monorail (Bullet Train) and the normal rail. The HK building was to help add more diversity to the city, it fits my taste, but I guess I don't have to put as much of them, if you want to.

This update is about my work on Osaka Prefecture. Yes, I am still working on Hiroshima, the city tile is almost done. I am going to start numbering my pictures, from this update and on. This will be a large update, with 22 pictures. Enjoy!

1. This right here is the city of Sennan, Osaka Prefecture(泉南市、大坂府). The city population in real life is 65,315, while my Sennan has 86,804.
WOW. I exceeded the population by over 20,000! But then again, I had to fill in all of the space. So now comes the statistics.
Density (Urban): 22,257 people per square kilometer.
Density (All): 5,425 people per square kilometer.
Land Area (Urban): 3.9 square kilometers.
Land Area (All): 16 square kilometers.
Enough about statistics, on to the city!

2. Right here on this intersection, you can see the Nogami Hospital. I chose the Maxis hospital as it looked very much like it.

I like the mixture of different buildings! It feels like in a metropolis, no real end or start to urbanisation, rather a continuous stretch of built-up lands. And the MMP work on the park is great!

Considering the density, though, I would've gone for viaduct rail and the RRW perhaps, but then I don't really know anything about Japan $%Grinno$%, except for what I've seen on this forum ::). Eager to see the other tiles develop!

Thit is a great update!  Nice work!

for some suggestion maybe get some catenary for realism toward rails, I suggest to use uki catenary: http://uki-sim.seesaa.net/article/259839686.html
also I suggest to avoid using maxis port, somy made great port set in his site but well if you think its better, you can keep it anyway...

Another good update.  Very, very crowded looking to me, but considering that where I'm from you can literally look out for miles and miles of open plain, anything other than open areas look really crowded to me.  ;)  I do love how colorful the city turned out.  It is definitely not bland or boring.  :)

I did notice one thing in picture 7 that you may want to look into.  In the lower left corner, it appears the concrete texture behind the brown building is over-lapping the railroad tracks.  Its a graphical/texture issue, but was noticeable.

I'm back! With new B.A.T work! (The update will be coming later this week, as it is almost done)
The B.A.Ts that you saw previously are now up for download!

I am also working on brand new housing set! (Like Kori, Nekopanchi, Kei, etc.) I just started yesterday. The house are mainly based of off houses in Hiroshima. Here is the first house that I have modeled thus far. Here is the first house, modeled:

I am hoping to make at least 50 houses and 50 apartments (There is a very big lack of japanese-style apartments, so I will be filling in that gaps.) Please, tell me what you think of it. Don't be afraid to criticize, because it will help me improve. ;) Also, could anyone tell me how to do the family prop thing? (Like how Nekopanchi-san did it with his houses) I want to do it for my housing and apartment pack, so if anyone could help me, I would greatly appreciate it!

Your house model is nice, but the textures are too slate. Those need to be dirtier to look more realistic. Maybe start a thread at Simtropolis in the BAT section, you might get some help to improve your textures

As for the family props, smoncrie wrote a short alternative tutorial to prop families: http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=5350.msg169424#msg169424 (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=5350.msg169424#msg169424)

I wish you every success in your new project. It will be great. There are still too few Japanese residential buildings. I myself love old Japanese buildings as they jangle in the smaller towns and rural areas. Wow, this is great japanes-typcal urban work ! (https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ld-host.de%2Fuploads%2Fimages%2F79ccce133069194749348c326ef974c8.gif&hash=186ea0bc17c86535305c57a58cee2fa0dc2b14d5) I'm proud of you. You've developed quite strongly. Thank you for your comment, Dantes. I have developed even more in this, so I hope that you're looking forward to this  :).

Thank you for your comment! And you're right about viaduct rail & RRW would be a good idea, thanks for your suggestion!

I got the catenary for this city, with that exact link, too. And you're right, SOMYさんのport is better than the one made by Maxis.

It is quite crowded, but somewhat low density and medium density. The thing in picture 7 I noticed as well, the reason of that was due to the placement of the train station, it is no glitch. But it does like quite bad though... &mmm

Beautiful recreation BTW. Hope to see more, and good luck with your project

You are right about the textures! I will go and start up a thread at Simtropolis so I get help with my B.A.T.s. Thanks for the alternative to prop families! It was quite helpful!

Fasan:
This is an excellent job.  &apls
It is a pleasure to look at each image, properly because one discovers beautiful things.  ;)

Thank you for your comment, Fasan.

noahclem:
Your new batting projects look very promising  &apls  Of course you're welcome to share your creations on the LEX as well :)

Okay, noahclem, I will definitely do that when I get the chance! :)

Dantes:

I wish you every success in your new project. It will be great. There are still too few Japanese residential buildings. I myself love old Japanese buildings as they jangle in the smaller towns and rural areas. No matter what you want to build, it will delight the Japan players.

Yeah, maybe I will create some of the older style Japanese residential buildings in my set. :)

Now, on to the update for today! It is going to have a ton of pictures, to make up for my inactivity lately.

This right here is a high-up view of the city of Tagawa (田川市、ローマ字:Tagawa-shi, which I think translates to, "Rice Field River City" in English?), a fictional city located in the fictional Tagawa prefecture (田川県、ローマ字:Tagawa-ken). This city was made for the monthly challenge on Simtropolis, but however, I did not have enough time to complete the city, as it was only half-way done. So when I got back on a couple of months after the fact, (March) I filled in the remaining space on the 1.8 kilometers of low-level flat-space in the Southern part of the city. However, the Northern and far-eastern parts of the city have yet to be finished. Here is the region-view picture for:

1. Here is the first area I will show you. However, the photo right here was taken a few years ago (not real years, as I said above that this was started in January) before the major Tagawa flood, caused from an earthquake in the ocean in the Tohoku region.

2. Another moment from before the disastorous flood came. You can see the rice paddies and the small farm houses off to the side, completely unaware of what is about to happen.

3. Even the citizens of southern western Tagawa who are up on a raised plain are not completely safe from the disaster that is about to happen.

4. Something terrible is about to happen, especially on this low level floodplain, which is closest to the wrath of the water.

5. The disaster that is about to happen is especially bad news for the industry and the powerplant, which powers up the whole Tagawa City area, of many people, who most are on 1.8 square kilometers on the raised plain.

6. The flood has reached land fall! The power lines which lead out inland have been completely submerged, cutting off power to those up north.

7. The flooding has reached the houses. The sirens in the city are blaring. People are fleeing from the home of theirs, and the power plant workers have been evacuated.

8. MIN'NA!!! THE WATER HAS REACHED THE POWER PLANT AND MANY OF THE INDUSTRIAL AREA! FLEE TO HIGHER GROUND AS SOON AS YOU CAN!

9. While the power plant workers survived and the people near it survived, isolated small villages like this got left behind along with the people in them...

10. This small village, which was closest to the river and on the lowest elevation got the worst of it.

11. The water eventually began to take over the whole village. The water begins to seep in toward the dense urban area up on higher land.

12. The water come onto the elevated land, destroying everyone that is in its path.

13.Tagawa Police Officer Tomioka on the horn: "Citizens of Tagawa City, Minami ku (Southern ward), please remain calm and evacuate to the northern parts of the city in which the elevation is higher! Evacuate now to the safe places, Denshi ku and  Kita ku up in the north!"

14. Tagawa News: Tagawa News Reporting! Today, on March,11, A huge tsunami has come to the Tohoku region flooding many coastal towns, such as Ishinomaki, Onagawa, Motoyoshi, Kesennuma, Rikuzentakata, etc. The one that we are covering today is the Tagawa tsunami, in Tagawa prefecture. As you can see, Minami ku is flooded, with the water rising at around 4.5 meters high, up here. Below on the floodplain, water levels reached almost 56 meters high.

15. Tagawa News: Despite all of this catastrophe, a man named Tomioka Kazuhito was a hero on this day, giving warning to those farther from the tsunami. He saved many lives on this day.

16. Tagawa News: The waters seem to be receding back in. Debris and other trash is getting pulled back in.

17. Tagawa News: Now some areas of the flood plain have become dry. The water is receeding quickly, taking all the debris it can with it.

18. Tagwa News: The waters have receeded to their normal level. Out of the 66,284 people in the city, there were 4,692 casualties, 2,314 people gone misssing, and 7,456 people injured. Due to water getting inside of the Tagawa powerplant, Tagawa has completely lost power.

19. ...So, 4 years after the tsunami of 3/11, Tagawa has rebuilt some of what has been lost. Slowly but surely Tagawa and other towns like it have been rebuilding what they have lost. Unfortunately, however some things can not be regained...

20. Tagawa now is good and well, and recovering from the incident. The grand re opening of the pedestrian mall just happened today.

I am so sorry that I haven't been posting recently. My last update was in March, right before April, the start of my College years. Since then, it has been much harder to find a proper balance between school and SimCity 4. But anyway, I have been working on a little something, and I think it would be good to show you.

But before that, I must reply to the comments:

REPLIES:

1. The next update's downtown area, along with train station. The small city's name will be revealed in the next update!

Hopefully, I'll be able to get the next update down soon and be able to deliver a proper update. Thank you for viewing and Sayonara!

I like your combination of buildings, they complement each other very well and nothing would stick out like a sore thumb. Don't worry about keeping your pace low, after all, real life is more important :). My only suggestion would be using underpasses (maybe with FLUP pieces from the NAM) instead of level crossings in inner city areas, this might be safer and improve traffic flow, especially if you have several railway crossings in close proximity.
