The Ultimate Challenge

First have a look at this below, it will explain what you have to do first to receive the 10th Challenge:

http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=7035.340

After I have given you Your individual Challenge 10, I will post the details of it here. You can ask the questions about this challenge either here or in your Challenge 10 Thread. (I'd prefer here though, thanks, so that everyone can see the questions and explanations also.)

Yes, this Challenge will be totally individual, being created with what I know about your region and the last two pictures of Challenge 9 that I have asked to post.
Right now, go and open your Challenge 10 thread, so that I can post your Challenge 10 there in the next week or so. Of course, to do so, you must have finished Challenge 9 first and be up to date. If you haven't yet, well go ahead, I'll wait for you. ;)

I'll be back in 2 days......

Fred

Challenge 10

The Governor thought  that it was the time to gather his Mayors and talk seriously about his intentions to mass-transit all the regions.

" We need better, more efficicient and faster ways to get to and exit your regions and connect tthem to the rest of the world." the Governor explained the Mayors in his yearly meeting, " I decided that highways would be perfect. In the following days, a Highway specialist will be dropping by your region and leave you a plan of a highway which you will construct. The highway of course will be of different direction in every region, adapting itself to each city and town.
You will need to follow the instructions given to you in most every detail, there will be no financial limit of course. The locations of the highway accesses will have to especially respected.
I wish you good luck."

In this Challenge each Player will get Personal Instructions on how to build his/her Highway through their region. The details will be found in your Challenge 10 Thread later this week. I will upload one or more Challenges every day or so, randomly choose the Player and starting this by midweek.
You will have to follow every step the best way posssible while taking care of destruction of existing buildings. Points of how little was changed at the five indicated places will be judged severly. A picture in view 3 only before and after the construction will asked for. They will be at strategic locations.
Of course you are allowed to bulldoze and level most every places, I know that it will be impossible not to do so for the construction of the highway, its entries, exits and intersections, but we will judge how well you did to keep the most existing surroundings as possible. We will choose difficult locations sometimes and oblige you to bulldoze certain areas of your well built cities and towns, just to see how you can handle it.
There will be 2 bigger intersections that we ask for, plus at 3 accesses in urben locations. The highway will be starting on one tile that has exterior access and finish in another tile that also has exterior access and travel at least through a total of 5 citytiles, all personally described in your Challenge 10 Thread.
You may use any highway you would like to, even the Boulevard/Avenue in town/ city  locations can be used as a highway extension or connections between the 2 ends of the highway. The maximum length allowed though for the boulevard/Avenue in every and any citytile is about 50 % of the tile's width/length. In other words you must have at least 50% of *real* highway in your citytile before you can use the rest as a boulevard/avenue. Use it wisely and sparely. Also boulevards/avenues are only allowed in maximum 3 citytiles. These are an option and don't have to be build.

Edit: ««Besides the 2 bigger highway Intersections (which you are NOT allowed to build more) and the 3 indicated accesses (exits and entries) , you may build as many access ramps as you wish, anywhere in any citytile.»»

Like I said, we will judge how much you had to destroy and did destroy in your existing locations and also we will give points on how well your highway system will look.
If you have better, more efficient or better looking ideas how or where to build your highway in certain areas, please let us know in your Challenge 10 Thread and we are willing to discuss the changes you would like to undertake. That also we judge with points, looking at the logical aspect of your demand.

Any questions about the highway can be asked here in this thread, if it is more specific and/or personal, you may ask for an answer, explanation or instruction in your own thread.

We will now study (which has already began) Your regions for the highway construction plan and you will, as mentioned before, receive your instructions in Your Challenge 10 Thread later this week. We might even contact you in your thread if we have questions about your region or even show us a better picture.

In this Challenge you will have to:

1. Show us 2 pictures of each 2 Intersections in either view 2, 3 or 4 only, before (2) the construction and after (2). 8 Pics in all. Make sure to have the same view and angle when taking the pictures before and after.

2. Show us 1 picture each of every highway access demanded before the construction and after. 6 pictures total in view 2,3 or 4 only. Make sure to have the same view and angle when taking the pictures before and after.

3. Up to 4 pictures of your choice of the highway, if possible at least one picture out in the countryside.

4.  1 picture of the most scenic content of your highway, whether city or country. Choose the one you like most.

5.  1 picture of the whole region in transportation - mode.

The Location of the pictures will be asked for individually also in your thread and only after the project has been completely finished.

Now, don't go and start planning or even start building your highway. You still have no idea where and how. This will be indicated in your thread later. Only when we specifically say that you may start building, you may go ahead and do so.

To receive your instruction you will need to have a Challenge 10 Thread openend in your Playfolder and have finished the Challenge 9. There is no time limit for this Challenge. Good luck to everyone.

Boulevard is English as well, and oddly, may be the better term for the type of road the game uses. An avenue, as I understand, is a road lined with trees, whereas a boulevard tends to have the median, but yes, as it's commonly referred to in the game, the 2-tile wide network with the trees down the middle is called an avenue. Looking forward to see the variations on the challenge Fred.

Thanks Matt, kinda confusing when you speak several languages. We use both terms in Canadian French also, not sure which is what exactly. ;)

Heh, English can be confusing even when you speak just one language. The terms though tend to be fairly interchangeable it seems (though I'd be interested to hear Alex's (Tarkus') or other road geek's distinctions between roads, drives, streets, etc.
