I've seen you CJ at ST...glad to see you here! Very interesting history/government organization...it is all very detailed  &apls &apls

This looks really good. A lot of details, and a good background story too. Some very interesting diagonals that look far better than anything I've been able to achive (these days most of my streets are just straight to avoid jagged edges). Also, good work with the trees.

Michael- A really fine start.  Very comprehensive, leaving the reader ready (if not anxious) for more.

Atlantis looks like a worthwhile stop on anyone's MD tour.

This is a massive undertaking. A very nice first update with lots of facts and history about the Kingdom of Atlantis.
You have obviousliy gone for the grand city planning in your capital. I think the areas for the palaces and government buildings has turned out very well. The modern areas (especially the stadium area) look a bit like nice buildings put together without much interconnection.

There is so much to see here and I hope you will also show some closeups of the different areas of your capital.

The Imperial Kingdom bid to host the Forth Simlympiad, unfortunately we did not win, in a surprising outcome Nyhaven got to host the games. All is not lost however, the Atlantan Site is now an International Sports City and some areas are under re-development for new residential districts.

The site was chosen to site the games due to the presence of the national maglev line in the area as well as being near the national high-speed rail network.

GAMES MOTO – "Imagine the possibilities"

TRANSPORT:

A new maglev station has been built linking the site with the entire country including the large international airport as well as Ireland and the rest of Europa via a network of undersea tunnels

A high-speed rail station has been built to provide quick travel between all major cities as well as the airport. A bullet service will operate from the Atlantis International Airport to Atlantis Central Station and then to the games site.

The Kingdom operates a smart guided motorway network; the games site will be linked to the Atlantis Central District by means of a dedicated high-speed guided motorway.

The entire games site is served by light rail, all venues, the media village, athlete village and hotels all are linked together by the system.
Terminal 4 of the International Airport will be dealing with all Simlympic flights. The national carrier Poseidon Airlines will be the official carrier for the game.

Free Travel for all athletes, visitors and guests on all rail/shuttle/maglev and subway services.

VENUES:
The Games site will not host all the games. Fencing, equestrian, archery, mountain biking and sailing will all take place in other locations and will be detailed also.

GAMES SITE:
Main Stadium – Opening/closing ceremonies and athletics
Molton Arena – Boxing, Judo, Taekwondo,
Aries Aquatic Centre – Swimming, Synchronised Swimming, Diving, Water Polo
Alberg Arena – Gymnastics, Table tennis
Simlympic Tennis Park – Tennis
Edison Rowing Lake – Rowing
Azure Arena – Indoor Cycling
Neptune Arena – Basketball, Handball, Volleyball, Weigh lifting
Bounty Field & Actim Stadium - Baseball
Simlympic Football Stadium & Eton Stadium – Soccer
Clarendon Arena – Hockey
Modern Pentathlon and Triathlon will be hosted in several of the above venues due to the nature of these sports.

This site also features a massive above-ground parking facility as well as under-ground provision in the Media and Athlete Village. The games site will also feature a large open plaza beside Arena Park with high-mast lights and big-screen televisions. These televisions will also feature throughout the site.

OUTSIDE THE GAMES SITE:
Corinth Imperial Palace – Fencing
Corinth Imperial Park – Archery, Shooting and Equestrian
Mourne National Park – Mountain Biking
Neptune Bay – Sailing
The Atlantis Imperial Palace Gardens – The Marathon will start from here and finish in the Main Stadium on the games site.

SIMYLMPIC PARK
The park will host the vast majority of all the venues; it will also host the athletes in the Athlete Village. The village will not only provide homes for the athletes but training facilities, shops and an open air concert park where world class acts will perform on a nightly basis for the athletes, visitors, delegates and families.

The Media Park will also be the home to the Simlympic Team in a purpose built HQ for the duration of the games, we have also co-operated with several hotel groups and have constructed extremely high-quality hotel for all visitors and delegates.
The Media Village will provide accommodation for all national broadcasters and will host a newly built HQ for our national broadcaster ABC (Atlantis Broadcasting Corporation). ABC will also provide access to all broadcasters to the advanced silicon optic transmission infrastructure that Atlantis uses.

The games will be beamed to European homes via the Quartz Ultra High Definition service, outside of the Europa Broadcasting Union where technology is not as advanced, High Definition Blue will be used. All major national broadcasters will record the games for their respective audiences.

Atlantis has a dazzling array of attractions and historical places of interest for all visitors, many painstaking rebuilt after the Europa war. The city is one of the most cultural advanced in Europa if not the globe. With countless landmarks, galleries and museums across the entire country to theme parks, breathtaking landscapes and modern cosmopolitan cities we have everything for the visitor.

The entire country is a peaceful, crime-free and beautifully maintained. The people live in immense prosperity under the rule of their beloved Imperial Family and His Majesty Emperor Stormont III.
This city is one that would warmly welcome the athletes and delegates.

Mount Stewart is the home to the Imperial Guard, one of the aspects that make up the Imperial Armed Forces. It is also home to the Europa Missile Defence Shield which protects Altantis and her European Allies from any missile attack.


Mount Stewart is not a newly placed town, during the days of the Caledon Federation is was home to the elite training academy of the Royal Household Guards and Caledon Army

After years of neglect Emperor Stormont II declared that the former prestigious town would be the new home of the newly created Imperial Guard. The south wing of the former academy was rebuilt and restored to its magnificent glory and serves as the Imperial Guard Headquarters as well serving as an advanced training academy.

The town also provides homes for the guard while being trained as well as permanent homes to those live here. Officers and the family of soldiers also had homes built for them. Once finished their training the guardsmen are then posted to specific duties. The most successful are promoted the Imperial Household Calvary, these men protect the Emperor while in residence at all palaces and when he travels. Others go into the many divisions for the army and are then posted to wherever they are needed.

What a spectacular district ! The "french garden" are wonderful , the use of the avenues to perform the symestric layout is really clever and  good looking. It's out of scale, too much ... that's why it's breath taking ! If I had one things to say it's maybe wrong, it would have been the buildings with no road access in the middle of the park (2nd pic). And very nice to use the japanese "futuram" transport system !!

Nova Vesfalo - simply wonderful to have you visit. I know it's all out of scale, most of my cities are, but as you mentioned that's what makes them breath taking. The buildings with no road access is simply due to the era Atlantis is based. We are based in the furture and those buildings have underground travel pod stations as well as underground parking. Atlantis places more emphasis on how everything looks and creating a beautiful space to live and work. Hence why many things just would not work in today's world. However a very valid point :)

UPDATES

I have finished reviewing this MD, here on SC4D and I have been making some changes and improvements. I never resized them on photoshop but via imageshack and this resulted in sub-standard image quality. SoI have resized all bar two images and added an information bar and crest to every image to improve them. So I hope you can see the difference

I have also done a big clean-up of the first update, removing large amounts of text and instead replacing it with a fresh and refined look with links to the SCJU Wiki where you will find the history as well as more information on Atlantis.

I have also removed some updates, these were updates involving newspapers that were focused on the small and quick war Atlantis had with a future enemy, this did not fit in with the plans I had for Atlantis and as such have been removed.

So I invite you to read through this MD again and let me know what you think of the changes.

This is my first visit to Atlantis and I must say it's been a treat. The capital is one of the most beautifully-decorated cities I've seen.

Some special thanks before we start.

In my pursuit to build this new area of Atlantis I requested the assistance of several people and before I showcase anything I would like to thank them. My first thanks must go to Yoder, he agreed to relot one of his palace BAT's for me to use as the new Atlantan Imperial Palace, this work will be showcased in the coming weeks.

The second to Strechnitz, he has allowed me to use his wonderful gardens, without them I would not have been able to achieve the desired feel and look of this new project so many thanks Hubert.

I would also like to thank Xiziz he has agreed to re-lot some things for me that will be shown in the coming update, he has allowed agreed to create some new lots for me.

Debussyman must also be given some thanks, while he did not personally create anything for me, he did create Notre Dame, and I have used this as my first update, it's a stunning piece of work and I thank him for it.

With the creation of the Imperial Kingdom of Atlantis came the need to rebuilt.....

The nation and her greatest cities were left devastated by the war that led to the collapse of the great Caledon, a nation that lasted for over 900 years. The people of Caledon were proud and they had the right to be so, from the small beginnings of a tribal nation they amassed wealth and power, an empire and success in almost every aspect of the social, technology and economic spheres, all the while being lead by their beloved Royal Family

The new nation that arose was to do the same, the Imperial Kingdom of Atlantis aimed to regain all that preceded it. Under the leaderhip of their new Emperor and Imperial court the nation began to rebuilt and rise from the horror of conflict.

40 years ago the Imperial Government started plans for a new Imperial Capital, a city that would embody the value, goals and prestige of the new Imperial Empire. The city would be called Atlantis and would be one of the worlds grandest and most beautiful. Built on the ruins of the former Caledon capital of Queenstown, every effort was made to maintain whatever buildings survived the war.

The Emperor ordered a new centre of power be created, the Imperial Quarter would be home to the new Atlantan Imperial Palace, offices of state and embassies of world nations. The area would also feature some of the most impressive symbols of Caledon architecture to survive the war, plans were also put in place to rebuilt those that had been destroyed.

Thus the work on the Imperial Quarter begun. Work is still progressing, however the work now is focused on small scale projects, the most important and impressive are finished and we start this series of updates with one of those buildings to survive, the Cathedral of Kings.......

This magnificent example of Caledon craftsmanship served as the last resting place for every King and Queen that served and lead the Caledon nation. Construction was started in 1200 and did not finish until 1400. The first member of the Caledon Royal Family to be laid to rest was Queen Charlotte Amadeus in 1405 she was later followed by King Charles Amadeus II in 1420

In the late 20th Century the Cathedral was extensively restored and the stonework cleaned and erosion damage corrected. The bell towers were also restored and to mark the year 2000 the bells were rung for the first time in over 40 years.

The last Royal member to be buried here was King Andrew Henry Amadeus, King Andrew remained as leader of Caledon until the palace was the target of a powerful missile attack. The King suffered terrible injuries and died in the Royal hospital as 20,000 Caledon citizens waiting outside the hospital in St. Brigid Square. The news was met with national trauma and mourning this was furthered with the news that Prince Christopher Amadeus was killed when HMS Stoneflower was destroyed while engaged in naval combat with a  Russo-Hungarian destroyer, he was serving as a Naval captain.

The King was buried 14 days later after lying in state. On the 11th day of national mourning the war was declared over and Caledon and her allies had won, King Amadeus was laid to rest as the leader and King that lead Caledon to victory.

This is a truly stupendous update. The history of the downfall of mighty Caledon is tragic yet vivid.

The Imperial Kingdom has a highly developed and advanced national transport network ranging from the electronically guided motorway and road systems, driverless high-speed rail and underground rail networks, national maglev services and the airports and spaceports.

The department oversees the efficient running of every aspect of the system and is assisted by the Atlantis Transport Monitoring Network. They are also in charge of infrastructure construction and the issue of licenses to companies to operate rail and maglev services.

Currently TransAtlantis Rail holds the license for rail and high-speed rail services and the Atlantis Transport Group operates maglev services and the metro network in Atlantis and Naran Liberius.

The department will also allocate funding to the Imperial Colonies for transport infrastructure projects as well as providing costs for maintenance.

The Ministry for Health controls all aspects of national healthcare, health promotion  programmes, hospitals and all state medicial facilities.

A national health service exists in the Imperial Kingdom. It provides highly advanced medical care in the most modern of facilities. Many Atlantan citizens have opted to use Private Insurance and these companies and many have chosen to develop their own facilities. However they are subject to national medical guidelines and inspections. Atlantan medical care is some of the most advanced in the world and fatal illnesses are now uncommon. The situation compared to the early 21st Century is vastly different many of the diseases that afflicted early human history have now been eradicated. The primary use of medical facilities is for the treatment of patients after accidents.

This governmental department is tasked with the monitoring of business and investment in Atlantis. They also promote the trade of Atlantan goods as well as oversee government investments in businesses both here and worldwide. They will actively seek to bring new investment into the Imperial Kingdom and her respective colonial nations

They will also assist with business start-up in Atlantis through loans, grants and by providing advice on the various aspects of law and skills required to make a new business successful.

The department is also partly responsible for deciding what companies get important government contracts. For example in 2039 they awarded the contract for a new advanced telecommunication network to be installed in Naran Liberius to an Arabian company, Exceltel. An example of the close relationship the Imperial Kingdom has with the Arabian Empire

We start tonight with the Imperial State Visit of His Majesty Jerome Victor IV of Stropon to the Imperial Kingdom. At 08.00 hours today the plane touched down at Atlantis International and was met by the Prime Minister, the Atlantan ambassador to Stropon and the Stropon Ambassador to Atlantis. The convoy then travelled to the central district via the M7 Motorway, traffic central command closed the section and diverted traffic via the Aquataine bypass, delays were relayed as minimal.

The convoy made their way to the Imperial Parliament building where His Majesty was met by His Imperial Majesty Emperor Stormont and the leader of the Parliament. Emperor Victor made his way to the main chamber to address Members of the Imperial Parliament, distinguished guests and members of the Imperial Congressional Senate.

After the speech the Stropon Emperor awarded His Imperial Majesty Emperor Stormont the Order of the Golden Fur, the highest honour to given by the Neo Byzantine Empire of Stropon and only the third person to be awarded the honour, joining Jerome Victor himself and King Gardennes of Osturland.


After the speech His Majesty Emperor Stormont talked about how proud he was to see Stropon retake its place on the world stage and how the nation had progressed under the stewardship of His Majesty Victor IV, to cement this Jerome was awarded the Atlantan High Order of Merit, an award to recognise long and distinguished service  to a nation. His Majesty was also ordered the High Imperial Order of King Andrew Amadeus, the most illustrious honour the Imperial Kingdom can bestow on an individual and has been reserved for the most important people in the world and is named after the last King to rule Caledon.

Emperor Victor then made his way to the Imperial Palace where he was given a personal tour by His Imperial Majesty before private talks followed by a press conference.

(AMANDA) Thanks Richard, well good evening you join me live from the Imperial Palace where the Ambassadorial Ball is underway. Today has been a truly wonderful occasion in Atlantis, a day filled with sumptuous state events both in the Palace and across our capital.  Lets have a look at what has been happening.

Earlier today after touching down at Atlantis International the royal convoy made their way to the Imperial Parliament to be met by His Imperial Majesty and speak before the Parliament members as well as members of the Imperial Congressional Senate.

Your Imperial Majesty, Emperor Stormont. Your lordship the prime minister, Peers of the realm, Imperial ministers, Ladies and gentlemen. Today marks truly a historic day in the history of both our glorious nations. For this is the first time in history that the Crown of Stropon has set foot on Atlantan soil. Today I can truly say, "Et in Arcadia ego". or I am in an earthly paradise.

For which country can not look up to the successor of the once mighty Caledon,  and not be astonished by the achievements of Atlantis? I dare say, nay I dare to claim that the proud Atlantan Empire is a role model for its brethren states on our planet. So even for Stropon.

A benchmark, to which every nation whether it is ruled by a crown or by the people, should aspire to. For We now stand in the epicentre of an Empire who's populace is free from want and poverty, free from crime and injustice. An Empire therefore which not merely strives to give its people what they deserve but actually does so!

We feel privileged to stand here today, as a friend of Atlantis and express our gratitude. For the Neo Byzantinian Empire of Stropon has recently dealt with a long period of reclusion and isolationism, mending the heavy scars of 20th century conflict. And after the first steps to reopening the Empire was taken, Atlantis was there to extend a welcoming hand. Offering Stropon your cordiality, helping our proud country rise out of the cobwebs of seclusion as a Phoenix and retake our rightful position in the world. We thank thee!

We look forward to strengthen and extend our cooperation in the future for the benefit of both our empires. Both bilaterally as well as in the multilateral sense. Under the auspice of Atlantis Stropon has entered the SCJU as an ambassador state. It is my privilege to announce here and now, that after the opening of the new Stroponian Parliamentary year on the first of November, Stropon will apply for a full membership of the SCJU! Further strengthening our bonds and broadening our scope of cooperation.

Now with re-establishing diplomatic and economic ties with other countries another old Stroponian custom is revived. Namely the custom which is as old as diplomacy itself, that of bearing gifts. After the award of honours the Stropon Emperor then made his way to the Imperial Palace joined by Emperor Stormont the was given a personal tour of the new Palace. At 15.00 hours the Palace arranged a Press Conference were both leaders spoke before taking a few questions. Afterwards both leaders retired to prepare for the State Banquet His Imperial Majesty is hosting for the visiting Emperor. Over 200 distinguished guests from both Imperial families, the diplomatic service, military and from Atlantan and Stropon Society. 
His Imperial Majesty made a speech at the dinner, thanking those that attended and spoke of the relationship between Atlantis and Stropon.

The celebrations continued when the guests were led into the Grand Ballroom when an Ambassadorial Ball was to take place. The ambassadors of all nations currently in Atlantis were invited and we were treated to a surprise in the form of The Stropon Ambassador to Atlantis and the Atlantan Ambassador to Stropon led the first dance with the quickstep, and a truly wonderful display it was. Later this evening the guests will view a spectacular firework display over the great Imperial Palace Gardens.

Events have also taken place across the city, the largest at the Imperial Ballet where 'Sol Invictus' by the Stroponian Composer Livio De Bauchery was performed and featured the truly glorious Beniot Magimel, a simply fabulous evening for Atlantan citizens to enjoy most certainly.

This important office of state deals with all foreign matters and relations with other nations. It is tasked with promoting the interests of the Imperial Kingdom abroad and  will also direct the response of the Imperial Kingdom in times of international crisis. It is one of the most prestigious offices of state.

This office is tasked with ensuring the Imperial Colonies are keep in check and and issues or problems are resolved as soon as possible. The head of this ministry is the Colonial Chancellor and is selected by His Imperial Majesty the Emperor. He will also represent the interests of the Atlantan colonies in Atlantis and will also preside of the Colonial Congress.
The office has become more important recently with the expansion of the colonies and the potential for expansion off-world.

Well thank you to everyone that commented on my last update, so pleased you enjoyed it.

I will post a full reply list with my next full update which I will take you again to the Atlantan Imperial Quarter, and we shall look at the gardens of the new Imperial Palace which has been constructed in the quarters, the gardens are not to be missed.......



This is a special update, The Imperial Kingdom of Atlantis was awarded the honour of hosting the new SCJU Stock Exchange. The main building has been completed and has been located in a fantastic new business park, this park will house offices of the largest and most important institutions and companies from SCJU member nations. Plans are progressing well on the development.

However the main exchange has been completed and I present it to you. I have a major thanks to give to Dmscopio, one of the most talented modern architecture BATer's we currently have, I requested him to BAT the Stock Exchange and it is based on the Pearl River Tower currently under-development in China. The Bat is an exclusive release, no plans at the minute to release to the general public, though that is for him to decide. I also need to thank Barbyw who very kindly converted the model file into a landmark for me to be able to use, without her help this would not be happening, so my thanks to both of them, the assistance was greatly appreciated.

That's an awesome building, Emperor Stormont, enhanced by the beautifully-landscaped grounds and reflection pool.
Atlantis keeps looking better and better! :thumbsup:

Some notes to post before I move on. The first is that the images you will see will show the Imperial Palace, this is not what is to be placed, Yoder is working on remodelling the Citadel Palace for me to use, in the meantime, I have just made use of what I have.

The last and most important point is that this update is dedicated in thanks to Hubert (Strechnitz) without him so kindly allowing me to use his simply wonderful garden pieces I would not have been able to create this expression of grandeur and beauty, so my deepest thanks to him and this update is for him (and everyone else of course)  :D

When plans were drawn up for the rebuilding of a new national capital, Atlantis, plans were also developed for the construction of a majestic new Imperial Palace and Palace Gardens. It was to be of a design to rival any great palace of the world, in particular in true Atlantan style the gardens would be lavish with no expense spared in the creation of a showcase Imperial residence that would awe visiting Heads of State and Government. His Imperial Majesty would reside in the former Royal Caledon Palace which had been rebuilt during the construction phase. Once complete the Royal Palace would be opened to the citizens of the kingdom and colonies as both a memorial to Royal Caledon Rule and to showcase some of the most impressive and highly valued works of art collected by the Caledon Royal Family over the centuries in which they ruled.


This new Imperial Palace would be a fresh beginning for the new Imperial Family although some art works and furniture treasured by His Imperial Majesty would be moved from the Royal Palace to his palace. Work was completed on the palace several months ago and the gardens were finished soon after.

In this special series of updates we shall explore this new expression of Atlantan beauty, power, wealth and prestige. The first update shall focus on the main gardens, the second on Imperial Avenue and the Imperial Square, all located at the front of the Palace and the third and last on the palace itself, a true marvel in extravagance and glorious ceremony.


But first to the gardens, some of the most beautiful and carefully planned in the world............

I love the formal look of the gardens, Emperor Stormont. Any one of those separate lots (assuming that's what they are) would make a beautiful quilt pattern, and you can take that as a high compliment from a lady who has made several. (Quilts, not lots!).
I have worked for years to free myself from "grid lock" in SC4Dx, but in creating the palace grounds, you have shown that a symmetrical arrangement is lovely when used in the right way in the right setting.
In the third photo, "The Upper Garden and Fountain," the gardens that look like scroll work especially caught my eye. Then in the next one, "Upper Eastern Gardens," the lower of the two gardens on the right is just lovely. Those are exceptional - the rest are merely gorgeous! ;)
I hope to see a lot more of your work.

The amazing thing's probably the huge amount of parklands in this city.

Any region shots of the entire city... I wouldn't be surprised if the parks took up more space than the city itself. :P

A huge and beautiful garden, some very nice details in all the different patterns. I think the upper garden and fountain is particularly well done. Also the orangerie garden has turned out nicely the way you have put the different elements together.
I am a bit more critical to the way you have been planting different coloured trees in rows next to each other. In the close-ups it looks a bit unnatural, but in the overview it still looks quite good.
The overall layout could maybe benefit from a bit more simple design. It might make a stronger statement if you choose to emphasize a few (sight)lines more than others, like you have done with the diagonal avenues leading up to the corner of the palace.
But this is still an amazing garden you have made. :thumbsup:

Oh Man, Wow!  I can not imagine how many hours of work are shown in this past update. The result is absolute beautifull. And it seems to be completely symetric, it must have been a pain to get it that way! (I sometimes tried to make symetric street layouts - and that seems easy compared to this I guess). My favorite shot is the last overview for that reason. But, it's a shame that so many details get lost there. I think you should bring the Uppergarden and Fountain into the picture competition : the detail in there is absolutely awesome. Also the Imperial Mausoleum and Glasshouse show a great part of these gardens.

So, true: these gardens are absolutely worth an Emperor!  &apls

Yes I suppose those designs would indeed make lovely quilts. :)  I am the same, I try to avoid grid, but at times it can look beautiful, especially when using gardens and paths to create the look. This new update will hopefully show that I love using non-grid for avenues and roads.

Shadow Assassin - Indeed the parks and gardens of Atlantis are large and some as seen are indeed vast. The city has its mix parks, low rise and high-rise, all I try to blend together as best as I can. I have an idealist view of future cities and I love to emphasis trees and green spaces.

Kwakwlaar - Many thanks. I know what you mean regarding the trees, it can look unnatural, but you need to remember that reality does not really operate in this CJ. I do those with the trees to create colour and just something different as well as attempting to use nature and things such as trees in a way that others would not think of. I to love the upper gardens, they turned out well and many thanks for your kind words. I hope you like this update also.

Sebes - Thanks mate, so thrilled you enjoyed it. Yes it did take a long time, the whole city tile has taken months of on-off work and time, but I am so so pleased with how it all looks, one of my most carefully planned and crafted cities. Suppose I would say I'm very proud of it.

That are some nice shots Emperor Stormont! Especially the last one, the night shot of the Imperial Quarter is gorgeous.

The set of the entire Quarter, the grandeur reflected in the Avenues and the building arround it, also by the empty quadrants with just nothing in it, makes it a very...well... imperial !

Like Strech, I love that ise the great Brandenburger Tor bat. There is however one thing disturbing me: the gate is in the middle of 'nowhere' (not a word that fits with the Imperial Gardens ofcourse...). I mean: I would have made also a "drive way" in the other direction: that way the gate could function as the entrance from the Imperial Avenue to Imperial Square...

The empty quadrants, yes I do like those, I love the idea of large parks and areas of beautiful undeveloped land in a glorious city, the city is alive with nature and trees and my people can enjoy the city they live in. I have a very idealist view of the world Atlantis is set, explains some of my updates.

The gate, indeed, I know what you mean. Firstly as Hubert also stated it is nice to see it again being used in SC and images posted. The location was purely selected based on symmetry as well as it being purely ceremonial used to mark the entrance to the inner Imperial square where the military and Imperial Quard will march and perform. I also hate roads impacting on open parks and public spaces, thus I removed the Avenue that did exist and extended the outer square. :)

The Year Ahead

I have loved creating and working with Atlantis, it is my first and my only CJ and I shall not be changing that for the foreseeable future. I am a relative newbie to the SC community, about 18 months on ST and 10 on SC4D (roughly  :D ). When I started this CJ I was experienced in city building but over the months I have improved both my skills and indeed presentation. I have also learned and loved using LE after being inspired by people such as Yoder, Strechnitz and Badsim.

I do not BAT and as such rely on the efforts of those that can whether as a general release or private creations to which I am very grateful from the small things such as the Atlantan Flag to the new Imperial Palace being undertaken by Yoder to another building by Debussyman that will be showcased in the coming weeks and as part of the One Year Anniversary of the Imperial Kingdom of Atlantis.


Anyway.....


This coming year will still see and enjoy the large and grand cities of the nation but I will also start to look at the small and historic town and cities around the country in addition to the new technological advanced city of Naran Liberius, home to the Atlantan and Intersellar Alliance Space Fleet and various other special updates. I will also educate you more on the world and era that Atlantis exists in. An era set in a very different world of the future, while at the same time some things will look familiar.

I will explain in detail how Atlantis came into existence and what the world of our time looks like. I warn you a lot of countries we know of today do not exist any more and what I write is pure fiction so I hope no one is offended if you country looks or sounds different to what it does now.


The next update shall begin this fresh new outlook and we shall tour and view the historic city of Strangford. This city was the first site where celtic travellers from Ireland landed in what was know as Caledon and in later years were followed by the Normans. From this place a nation grew and became of the most powerful nations on earth, it was home to the first King of Caledon starting the revered Amadeus Royal Line.

After the Europa-Larisa War (will be detailed soon) it was the site where a new nation was announced it remains a small yet historic city of national importance. We shall explore its history and what it looks like today. I hope you all come and see that update which will be ready in a couple of weeks.

I have exams for the next few weeks and as such Atlantis will be quiet for a little bit, however, after they have finished I shall return in earnest with new work and of course the celebrations to mark this MD's 1st birthday.

For now I leave you with some eye candy, this update ends the Imperial Quarter Updates (till the palace is ready) and is the second instalment of embassies and diplomatic affairs.

With this update we leave the glorious and beautiful Imperial Capital, the pride of its nation and people. We will return to Atlantis in future months and for special updates but from today we start our tour of this large and varied country. From beautiful countryside, historic towns, mountains and national parks to the extremely advanced 'new cities' of the kingdom. We will see the Atlantan Star Fleet and explore the world of the 24th Century.

Your big cities are nothing short of magnificent, but I'm looking forward to seeing how you deal with rural areas as well. I have some pictures in my mind of how you'll design the small towns, and all of them are lovely, peaceful and filled with promise.
BTW, how/where did you get the lawn texture on the Kingdom of Rurtania Embassy?

@ Joan, to be honest I'm really not sure, I was just browsing through the textures list on LE and found it and made it into a simple lot, maybe someone could give Joan some more info about it if they have any  :)

-jmouse (Joan): I did a little research on that texture thing and it seems that it can be found in BSC Textures Vol 1 (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=90) here on the LEX. It's ID in the LE should be 0xb5c09000.

I don't think I have ever posted here before, but I have to say, you are doing a great job. Your pics have a very stately look to them and the backstory is really well done. Your garden layouts are outstanding, and I particularly like the avenue setup around the Caledon Library. I would like to offer a more indepth compliment/comment, but there is just too much to mention in just this post. I'll look forward to seeing what you have in store for the future.

Very nice update you have here and well worth the wait. I like your use of RL photos, and the history of Strangford adds depth to the already-charming atmosphere.
The in-game photos are well done -- you've chosen some really attractive areas, especially the Monastery, the City Hall and the Old Town night shot showing the Royal Keep and North Gate.
Overall, the photos show the vibrancy and color that are an integral part of the city. Hope you'll be back with another update a bit sooner! ;)

Wow Emperor - this city has so many pedestrian zones that I expect it to be the most tourist friendly city between Europe and the Americas! And with all shown sights and the royal keep and that great waterfrond, I bet is also the nr 1 tourist destnation in the empire. You can expect many charter flights from Nieuw Amsterdams three international airports into this city Emperor!

I often lurk in this thread, and not comment. It's probably because I don't have much to say except for: good job, and such. And since I can't offer much input I often remain silent instead.

This will be split over two parts, the first will look at the Imperial Parliament and the Colonial Congress and the second on the Imperial Senate as well as a look at the town in which it is located. It isn't easy to make a presentation like this work, but you've managed to pull it off! IMO, the RL photos increase the impact of your always-striking in-game shots, and provide some new ground for the imagination to explore.

I love the stately park-like atmosphere you create around government buildings. The TPW, the canals and the landscaping all come together very well. Normally I don't care for trees lined up in a row like little soldiers, but you have managed to add just enough asymmetry to make it work. And night shots are always appreciated! ;) Now all we need is a bit of traffic and some admiring Sims walking about. ;)

Before the update I have a very special thank you to make to Debussyman. I asked him to BAT one of my favourite building, The Northern Ireland Assembly Building. He agreed and I have used this for the home of the Imperial Senate. Without his kindness I would have been forced to use something else. This BAT is also the very first building from Northern Ireland and I believe from all of Ireland to be turned into a SC4 Landmark, hopefully the first of many.

Wow, here you are again with those gorgeous gardens of yours! Once again, you have done a bang-up job of using RL photos with the in-game ones.

Those are some lucky Imperial Senate Administrators who work in those buildings! I've always loved the looks of courtyards but we don't have many here, and the ones we do have aren't usually very attractive. The entry gardens are beautiful, too and the ceremonial stairway is like nothing I've ever seen before in game.

The Atlantan Imperial Senate building is beautiful in the daylight but gorgeous at night with the lights on, and I like the fence you've used across the front. The nighttime overview is just breathtaking.

Malone is very attractive, too, created in that unique style of yours. But that last photo - the overview - says it all. I realize there are no signs of life, but in this case it really doesn't bother me. I just enjoy soaking up all that imperial beauty.

Nice CJ. You're capitol city feels like a capitol. It makes me think of grandoise planned government centres such as Canberra and Washington. It's neat that you can almost feel the City Beautiful movement coming out of your design. Nice job.

My sincere apologies for neglecting you all. I was offered a new and very exciting job a few weeks ago and along with university, essays and exam preparation I have just not had time to play SC4 and create updates.

My updates take a long time to perfect and showcase and the time involved can be substantial given my critical eye for detail, hence the lack of updates recently and unfortunately this will continue to be the case for the next weeks till I finish exams. 

I want to thank you all for your patience and Atlantis is by no-means dead, I have several new update ideas planned as well as continuing with more detailed work on the current time Atlantis exists in.

Once again, bear with me and I shall return in fabulous form :D

No I'm not dead :) My last exam is on Friday and I have started some work on the latest update. Again we will look at the smaller towns of the kingdom and the next will be on Glengormley.

I was poking around my father's library late at night today, and I found this wonderful book with 500ish 400ish massive pages displaying some of the most beautiful treasures of art in the world, filled with pictures and captions. I got to one page devoted this beautiful German Palace and massive garden grounds, and your journal came to my mind. I've never fully gone through it, and thought that I should today. I booted up my computer to have another closer look, and I must say, you have some of the most beautiful palaces, cities I think ever created in SC4, just as beautiful as the ones in the book.

I am now working on the new update..was doing so last week but the game crashed and I lost hours of work. So got very annoyed by that. However I've started again and update hopefully within a week.

I aim to spend as much time as possible creating beautiful and somewhat grand public spaces and gardens. Would be amazing to actually live in such a city and that's exactly how I built. As I would like my perfect city.

Well now, Emperor, this sounds like a most interesting development in the life of the Imperial Atlantean Empire. I'm sorry to see the regal beauty of "Atlantis the Earth-bound" cease to exist, but venturing into space surely will open up whole new worlds. So to speak.

So I shall wait impatiently to witness the latest innovations in interplanetary colonization appear right here at SC4D.

I apologise for the lack of updates. I have been rather work heavy lately and recently was promoted which only furthered added to this work load.

I do have several updates planned and have found *some* time to play SC4, but RL is rather busy at the minute. I have a good many days off in a couple of weeks and plan to update with some new work.

I have also starting masterplanning Naran Liberius, the second city of the planet of Atlantis and it will be a monumental example of city design and like nothing ever seen in a city journal before. In addition to that I also have planned updates for the Royal Amadeus Botanical Gardens and the town of Glengormley.

I will also show the Atlantean Colony of Perseus, located on earth on Atlantica-Alba and the official earth based representation of Atlantis to the SCJU. :)

@ Sebes. The off-world Atlantean colony is incredibly immense and immune from the current earth crisis. However, the Atlantean colony on earth, Perseus, will suffer a bit.

I always look forward to a visit to such a regal kingdom. I must say, the National Stadium is a colossal feat in engineering design layout.

Great CJ! Realism is not found here as much. You're the best city designer I have ever seen. But since you say it's the year 2364 (I think). There's supposed to be more modern and sleekier buildings like one in Dubai or perhaps taller buildings than the ones you have for your downtown areas. But you're showing us the government parts of your cities. (Well most of it). So it's accpectional.

In the coming months I am going to focus a bit more on Perseus. The Imperial Atlantean Colony on Earth, the update above was of a region in Perseus. I have also made a new paper, I will continue to edit and publish the Imperial Guardian which is the paper of Atlantis, but this new one is for Perseus  ::)

Awe-inspiring updates! I can only imagine the gardeners duties on the grounds of the Central Government District - what a wonderful place to roam, I'm sure. I love the 'similarity' of the Governor-General and Council Building to my real-life mayor and city hall. Beautiful pics, they are!

The governmental organization in the Atlantean Empire has a very interesting concept... it seems like the Empire runs the colony as if it's a subsidary or daughter company. Also the Nieuw Nederland has a similar set up of Government, what makes me realize I never published that in the MD yet... (so much plans and so little time..)

Anyhow, I like how you described it, and how you showed the gorgous Colonial Council and Chambers building, and His Governor General's Residence. Furthermore I hope that the relationships with other nations will not further deteriorate because of the econimic and diplomatic crisis...

Simply stunning work as always, I feel humbled by the sheer magnitude by which Atlanteans construct their cities. You're combination of real pictures to match the in-game buildings also adds that special touch. :)

The most ingenious thing I saw was the Queen Victoria Crystal Galleria. The way you put various buildings together to make new one, and integrate RL pics to match, was definitely eye-catching to me.

Just one question; do you have any slums built? We always see lavishly built high-wealth areas, but I don't think I've seen any poorer areas yet. Excellent work!

We don't have slums no. Poverty in both the Empire and in Perseus has been eliminated through social policies, education, training and job creation. Not everyone is wealthy, but everyone earns the average national income figure and benefits from generous social systems.

The cities are the showcase of Atlantis and her colonies, most people live in the cities or in suburban areas (those are still to be shown). However, no we do not have any slums or areas of poor quality housing.

It's impressive, and beauitful, woderful!!!! &apls &apls I can't imagine the time you spend to do it, but I thnik t's important!! &apls &apls
