Title: SimCity 2000 Special Edition
Post by: natespf on December 09, 2014, 04:41:59 PM
It seems there is no thread for SimCity 2000 here yet, this is the game that started it all for me.  I know there are many ways to get a free copy, but right now you can get a legit copy as it is the Free Game of the Month on Origin.

I have played it recently and my memory was much more glorified than how it actually is.  But I am grabbing my free copy and we will see how much I play it now for nostalgia.

Already grabbed a copy and even though "Special Edition" is cool and all but my personal favorite version of SIMCity 2000 has got to be the one for the Playstation because you can drive around your city on it, thanks to the "Streets of SIMCity" engine that was incorporated on it:

Sure the game lagged like hell because the original Playstation is maybe comparable only to the first "Pentium" chips, but I really had a blast driving around my blocky city back then :)

By the way, that clip isn't mine, I just found a gameplay video of the game on Youtube that shows the game's take on a "U-Drive it". Speaking of which, I really had my hopes up back then that SIMCity 4's UDI feature was similar to the one on SC 2000 on the PSX... boy was I ever disappointed :P

Sounds nice! I'd like ot have it, but what is that Origin that I should install before being able to download the game? Do I need it afterwards, or is it just for the download? Meaning: can I uninstall Origin afterwards and then still play the game?

If I understand it correctly you have to have Origin installed to play games downloaded on the service, otherwise I'd splurge for the Sim City bundle at 15€.

I've still got my SC2000 Disk, along with Sim Copter, great memories of flying around my cities and blowing up the nuclear power plants in a military helicopter.
