Oh we have another one of these...
...These amazing BATters.

I really like the Internationales Handelszentrum (copy-pasted that one, didn't wanna spell it wrong). It looks like an international building that would look great in any city. Great job and keep it up.

Kelis, exciting variety of styles that you chose for re-building. Both buildings look very promising. And on a related note: my first thought when I saw the Hedwigs Kathedrale was "There is a major church in Berlin left that has not been BATted yet?"

You might consider to have a second look at the front base of the Handelszentrum. The entrance rotundas you show look underscaled. Maybe they are just placeholders. There are some interesting pictures and stats about the building on emporis.com. You could check that. Among other things, I have found a picture of the entrance area. Bing and Google Maps weren't a help this time.

Keep up the good work.

Title: Re: Kelis | European Bat's
Post by: peterycristi on May 12, 2010, 12:30:46 PM
Hola kelis!

saludos a españa!

Peter

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi232.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee249%2FDebussyman%2Fcorte.gif%3Ft%3D1273764049&hash=a438f003ac02d3121113c6f95c16a4ade75fca92)

Hi.

already exported  ;)

Gracias  :)

Kelis, your building is really very beautiful.
For the night view, puts a plane inverted under your roof. It will avoid to enlighten details of the roof.

Girafe -> After German reunification, the Neue Wache was again rededicated in 1993, as the "Central Memorial of the Federal Republic of Germany for the Victims of War and Tyranny." It used to be used as a "check point" before Berlin's reunification.
Inside there's that :

Explanation on The Neue Wache from the Berlin City website:

The Neue Wache or New Guardhouse is a memorial to the victims of war and tyranny. Kathe Köllwitz famous Pietà sculpture - Mother and her Dead Son - can be admired here.

It is located between the Deutsches Historisches Museum (German History Museum) or former Armoury and the Humboldt University. This was Karl Friedrich Schinkel's first important building commission in Berlin part of his classical architectural legacy to Berlin. Erected in 1818 as a monument to the victims of the anti-Napoleonic wars it has been the reunited Federal Republic of Germany's main monument for the commemoration of the victims of war and tyranny since 1993.

It served as a monument in three distinctive phases of German history. Until 1918 it was a memorial to the Wars of Liberation. From 1931, under Reichspresident Paul von Hindenburg, Heinrich Tessenow converted the monument into a memorial for the victims of the First World War by covering up an inner courtyard which only let through a slither of light. The task of transforming the monument fell into the hands of architect Heinrich Tessenow who produced a black granite block structure with a gold and silver Eichenlaubkranz. In the period following the end of the Second World War and the memorial's destruction the GDR leadership turned it into the monument for the victims of Fascism and militarism. An eternal flame was placed in a cube above the ashes of an unknown concentration camp prisoner and an unknown fallen soldier.

German reunification found a suitable symbol for the memorial in Käthe Kollwitz wrenching sculpture also known as her Pietà – Mother and her Dead Son – to express the perpetual tragedy of the loss of life caused by war and tyranny. Today the underground room includes the remains of an unknown soldier, a resistance fighter and soil from battlefields and concentration camps.

The classical elements include the cubic form reminiscent of a roman Castrum with a sandstone vestibule. The columns are decorated with metal Victorias in place of the classical triglyph and metope frieze.

And your BAT is great!

the modeling I see here is pretty good, however I same problem with lighting keep re-appearing in each new BAT... Surprisingly like in the story of Empreror's/King's new dress nobody seem to "notice" them. What is it? Such an understanding of etiquette? Or do people really not notice it?

Well, I'll dare to be a bad boy and point them out:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs61.radikal.ru%2Fi171%2F1005%2F7f%2Fe7b661400ef8.jpg&hash=2c1d471fc897f96328b8d8afc73b6e76b27ab177)

Apart from light going "through" things it's hue is also too intense And too yellow imho.

May I ask what are you making it in?

There are some noticeable distortions of the key proportions that do alter look and harmony of the building. Chiefly the spacing of the columns of the main facade portico. This rhythm is a very important, key expressive element of the building yet in the model it is basically broken and gone.

Title: Re: Kelis | European Bat's
Post by: SimFox on June 09, 2010, 12:15:24 PM
the easiest and surest way to fix it to make sure that all your geometry is two sided. This way you don't need to set your material to be two-sided, since this option may be violated by the BAT export script in GMAX.
So use boxes for everything rather than planes. This should block the light. Planes are single sided geometry. So if your roof is a plane (i suspect it is) if you plance camera inside the building and point it up you'll see NO roof at all. And neither does light see anything there, that's why it continue to shine like there is nothing in its way, cause there isn't really...

I would also suggest to use some sort of decay on your lights... Physically correct inverted Square probably wouldn't work well without gamma correction, but you can try simple Inverted. Or try to set it yourself manually by demarking near (not too necessary) and outer (really necessary) attenuation.
Although in GMAX there is no way to create realistic bounced light you may fake it by using several lights instead of one spot or omni.

Kelis, good start. I especially like what you have done with the wall mosaic.

One question though: why does your model have one floor more than the original building? Are you testing the pixel counters in the forums?  %wrd

I just noticed blurredness on the roof and windows are a little bit strange, it seems they jut out of the building (don't know if it's the case) but often windows are like recess.

Anyway statues are very nice  &apls

Are you sure the columns at the entrance are standing in the stairs? I don't think Schinkel designed the building that way.... Maybe the contractor didn't read the drawings carefully enough?
Title: Re: Kelis | European Bat's
Post by: Sam Johnson on September 19, 2010, 07:48:25 AM
I think the windows look a bit too flat. It seems like they were only painted an a flat wall. And In my view the mapping of the patina copper roof textures looks a bit strange, especially along the ends on the right and on the left.
But anyway a nice BAT

That is quite an amazing BAT, Kelis.
I think it's turned out quite well, I'm just commenting to say you captured the lines in her clothing very well, it looks very true-to-life, however as Debussy mentioned above, it'd be better with a more rounded look.

It'd be interesting to see your BAT in a MD at some point, I'm sure many New York recreationists are excited for it!  ::)

For your texture issue, try using google earth and look at its textures.  You could use some similar texture or make a seemless version of your current texture.  Either way, it doesn't matter.  I like both.  :)

Great job!  &apls It would be awesome if you made those ''paved avenue'' pieces transit enabled and a set of puzzle pieces, so it could be made in to an avenue, that visually ends here in a square, but still allows traffic. It would make a really awesome inner city entrance.

Hello guys

Exactly Arthur !! It is the "Bankia Tower" before called "Torre Caja Madrid" or "Torre Repsol".

I was really impressed by this building, the first time I saw a render of the building I really liked but the most shocking view of this building was in person ( I have to renew my Dutch license in the Netherlands Embassy which is located on "Torre Espacio" located pretty close to this building ) and for that reason I have the opportunity to see this building often and I always wanted to do my own version, so let's see what Happen with it.

( It was Taken by me in the last visit )

- If you want to read more about this building you can check a look in the next link:

Nice start!

Do you have plans to make the other three as well? On a clear day you can see these four towers from my sisters house in Colmenar Viejo.  :)
