NZ is looking to replace its flag, at this stage anybody can put forward a picture of what they would like the new flag to look like, these will then be shortlisted by a panel, and those flag choices will go to a referendum to pick our preferred flag, there will then be a second referendum to decide between our existing flag and the preferred flag from the first referendum.
So if anyone is feeling artistic and wants the chance to go in the history books as the designer of the NZ Flag see the link below.

looks like fun- but I'm american- wouldn't that disqualify me.
I checked that before posting, when you go to the upload screen you have to put in either what part of NZ you come from or you can just put "International" in the location field instead.
And we definitely need more choices than ones like this

I most likely won't submit it as I know nothing about the country- just liked the thought- The large star represents the largest island- it features the standard 3 stars as well. However the British flag now disappears leaving behind 3 bars of red, white and blue.
Very nice &apls
The stars on the flag actually represent the Crux Constellation otherwise know as the Southern Cross
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crux
QuoteCrux /ˈkrʌks/, located in the deep southern sky, is the smallest yet one of the most distinctive of the 88 modern constellations. Its name is Latin for cross, and it is dominated by a cross-shaped asterism that is commonly known as the Southern Cross. Although visible to the Ancient Greeks, it was seen as part of the constellation Centaurus, and not defined or accurately mapped till the 16th century.
Known as Acrux, blue-white Alpha Crucis is the constellation's brightest star and the bottom star of the cross. Nearly as bright are Beta and Gamma, while Delta and Epsilon make up the asterism.
We only show four of the stars on our Flag whereas the Australia flag has the five stars on it

neat- here in the states the white bars stand for purity, the red bars for the blood of war and the stars are the states.
Lots of people are busy creating new flags for New Zealand
