Hello Everyone
Welcome to the Pavlova Sports Bar
What is this all about you may ask, well I guess an explanation is in order. Over the years here at
Sc4d, Diggis and myself have run several tipping comps for various World and European Cups, and
sports like football, rugby union and rugby league. In this regard, we thought we needed a more
permanent home, so here we are.
Our first project here in our new home is a little way off, and will be a tipping competition for the
2010 Football World Cup. Nevertheless we will get a draw up soon and post any major news regarding
the comp or any of the participating teams. Of course, if you have anything that you think may be
of interest feel free to post and discuss it here.
Helping Diggis and myself (tooheys) will be Art128, welcome aboard Arthur
Please remember that this is all meant to be a bit of fun and site rules will be strictly enforced.
I'll leave it at that for now, however feel free to drop in and say hello, or even add some
early World Cup news. And don't forget to let us know who you are supporting and we'll
add you to the roll.
Cheers
Dave

Be sure to add me as a supporter for New Zealand! I don't feel overly hopeful that we'll win, but always good to see our little country punching above its weight!
Hi Joel. You have been added. I have a feeling there will be a bit of support for both the Aussie and NZ teams, the ranks of people from downunder have swelled quite a bit here at SC4d in recent times.
Hope to see you around over the following months. By the way the pavlova is free so help yourself. There are two versions, ours and yours :D
Oh the pavlova. :D
(its ours and you know it)
And I must extend the thanks of NZ to Australia, for swapping to the Asian Contest, leaving New Zealand and the Pacific Islands in the Oceania one!
I've added myself to the dutch supporters ranks. Why the dutch, and not the Kiwis? Well, Soccer isn't a big sport in NZ and I never really followed it untill I lived in the Netherlands for a year when I was 18. Since then I've always supported the Dutch team. Sure, I'll cheer for the Kiwis, unless they meet the Dutch.
Nice to see this finally up, Shaun and Dave ! I hope we'll have a great time here. ()stsfd()
Let me adding myself to the Portugal supporter stand... :D
I think I'll go with Australia, I'm feeling patriotic!
(...err... if the idea is not to have more than one person choosing a country, I'll go with the next best... England.)
Looks like a fun competition, should be interesting to watch ;)
Well, since Belgium is very good at not participating, I'll go for Italy.
It has been 20 years since I could celebrate Germany as Soccer World Champion. At that time I played SimCity Classic.
That means time is overdue for the fourth title after becomming second in 2002 and third in 2006.
So - after 1954, 1974, 1990 it'll be 2010 again!!!!!
I GOP FOR GERMANY!!!!!
Add me to the Dutch supporters group! Actually, I only watch football during the World Cup or the European Cup ;D
I'll stick to Gli Azzurri (the italian national team). Being native Danish you might wonder, why I don't support Denmark. Obviously I am, but I support Italy even more. I love Italian football, and here in Northern Europe Italy is always associated with "negative", defensive tactics and diving primadonnas. In my humble oppinion italian football culture is more than that, and that's why I'll support Italy - even if they meet Denmark. I also like Argentina, but with Maradonna on the bench I can't imagin them liftin the trophy at the end.
I hope England fails big time!
How could I not support my own country? ;)
Add me to the german supporters group, of course .
Not sure whether they will win, but I'm convinced that they will make it to the semifinals :).
Fabian
I'd be very surprised if England win, but i'll be supporting them all the way.
We'll get through the group stage, but I can't see us getting much further. You never know though....
I'm Welsh, but England is the closest, and I can't go for Canada, so England it is!
-Jordan
If you can put me down for New Zealand please
Right, I've added you all the the supporters role so far. Welcome to the bar, pull up a pew. I'll take ID for those old enough, everyone else see Art at the milk bar.
I'll go with Korea DPR.. odds are 2001.0 to one, but hey!
Added in Korea DRP ! - Arthur. ;)
I'll take Argentina.
You're now on the Argentinian support list ! :)
I never really followed football until I meant my wife and found most of the family in front of the tube every time a game was on. It was a great excuse for me to have a couple of beers. ::)
Anyways now I sort of follow along, so put me down for Chile. If I were to pick anyone else, I wouldn't be a loud to sit near my brother in law and he lives with me. ;)
Great place you got here by the way. Who did the decorating? ::)
Robin
I just added you on the Chile supporters list. About the decoration, you mean the hot pink and electric purple ? ;) :D
BTW, I just put me down for the Brazil too as I love the Seleção (Brazilian team nickname) but it's sure when the Portugal - Brazil matches comes, I'll be for the Portugal.. ::) ;D Or we can be for only one team at the same time ? $%Grinno$%
Sorry Arthur, Shaun says it has to be repainted and I'm not aloud to show the public my decoration talents.....ever.....ever again.
$%Grinno$%
Robin
I would support NZ, but seeing as our second game is against Italy, I don't hold much hope for my national team &mmm
So I'm going to support Spain for the FIFA World Cup. My reasoning is that they won the UEFA Euro 2008 Championship and I just like Spain and want them to win! :D
cameron1991, you have been added to the supporters roll. I'm sure the boss will be pleased you are supporting Spain :) I'll leave it to you to justify it to your fellow Kiwis :D (Diggis could probably help ::) )
Thanks for dropping by, and you might have noticed we like to have a bit of fun around here.
Ooh, you'll have to add me on the Portugal boat, with Arthur. They did very well last cup, and I had my hopes on them. So, I'll stick with that.
This could turn out to be very interesting!
Ethan
You've been added, Ethan
Well, this one isn't an easy one to call.
Actually I live in Italy, after almost 10 years of work and fun in London my mind still functions in english (that is, when it functions...), and my passport says I'm german. But then,... I can't stand italian football, England just ain't a choice (no, THAT ONE wasn't a goal 40 years ago and it never will be $%Grinno$%) and the 90's celebrations in Berlin were simply epic.
So, if you don't mind adding another one, my support goes to Germany.
What? You mean no one's taken the US yet? Can't have that. Throw my name in the ring for them. They're doing it this time, you just watch.
-Matt
Myself.or.? , your on the list ;) And you can always swap to Italy or England later ;D
Matt you are a brave man ::)
Dave
Brave, or foolish?
To-ma-to, to-mah-to
And don't roll your eyes at me. They haven't lost yet.
-Matt
Added me to the Dutch. It's time that we win the World Cup.
Would be nice to be in Amsterdam in the Canals, when the trophy arrives. ;D. Just like in '88 with the European Cup. But then I was to young to go :(.
Getron -> It sure it would be nice ! ;D You have been added to the list !
This is not about the World Cup, but it's still about Football (or Soccer, as some of you may call it). And 45 Years have been a very long time to wait for this.
So, like it or leave it, because !!! WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!
Edit: Please keep the language clean, ** are not acceptable to get around the filter, we are a family site.
Well, New Zealand has beaten Serbia today in a warm-up friendly (or something...).
GO ALL WHITES!!!(yes our team names sound a bit racist sometimes, they're not, don't worry)
Add me to the Netherlands - my favorites from 1972
So, at the weekend "we" made the European Song Contest, so it's time we made the double! You know - 1954 - 1974 - 1990 - 2010
@Oranjefans: Dutch and World champion? %wrd Never ...!
What are you talking about Bernhard. The Aussies will provide the upset of the tournament in their very first game and Germany will be too devasted to continue $%Grinno$%
Nice try mate, but only if we were talking Rugby. :D
Add me to GERMANY... ;)
Add me to Serbia. ;D

Anyway Germany did start rather ok. Anything less than 2 goals in the lead could have been considered a blamage ... :D
Let's say it like this: The first of seven matches is made. :)
Hi everyone.
Just a quick note to let you know that WC_EEND will be starting a thread here to record all the scores, points etc from the world cup games as they happen.
Welcome aboard
Dave
Please add me to the supporters of germany :)
btw. I hope paraguay will win against italy :P
We got the draw! But it feels like we won!
CHI....CHI.....LE....LE....viva chile !!!
Switzerland won! :shocked2:
I never thought that this could happen :D It seems like this Worldcup is full of surprises $%Grinno$%
btw. were all of the 1000 bought chinese north korea supporters in the stadium yesterday? I don't think so :P
Regarding the poll in this thread (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=11162.0)... :P
Uruguay, Korea, USA and Ghana will fight for one place in one semifinal.
Argentina, Mexico, Germany and England will fight for one place in the other semifinal.
That doesn't mean one of the teams will make it to the final... ::)
None of the teams might make it (no such option to vote for)...
Even two of the teams might make it, e.g. Ghana vs. England in the final... ::)
I'd be willing to bet that only 1 team from that list will make the final. :D
England in the final? $%Grinno$% Tage, you're kidding. They'll be at home watching Germany winning the quarter finals next week! :D
HUP HOLLAND HUP!
We won from Brazil with a score of 2-1! We made it to the semifinals.
Dang! I missed the bids for the quarterfinals. Well I would have lost my bet anyway, because I was really affraid that Brazil was better.
Yes, we won. Hup Holland Hup. And I always believed it the could beat Brazil.
I local newspaper (www.ad.nl) had this morning on the frontpage a picture with Kuyt, Robben and van Bommel, and the Big words: "We gaan Winnen" (We are going to win). I couldn't believe it. But we have won.
Hup Holland Hup
Congrats to the dutch team.

So it will be Holland vs Spain sunday, and there will be a new World Cup Winnar.
The canal tour is getting closer, but still one match to win.
But next to the (Official) World Cup, the winnar will be crown: "Unofficial Football World Championships".
The netherlands is since 19 November 2008 holder of this title. More about it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasazzi%27s_Baton and here http://www.ufwc.co.uk/.

(Schade Deutschland alles ist vorbei! Deutschland alles ist vorbei!)
Oh boy.
What a match. Seems to be our boys did forget how to play good soccer like in the previous two matches. Can't say I am not VERY disappointed. :'(
But for the very first time of my life I will support the dutch for the final.

(If you had told me before this championship that I would post this I would have said "you must be completely crazy! Tempora mutantur ... )
@Nardo69, Sorry about your boys, but perhaps they used to much on England and Argentina. Perhaps three times 1-0 win was better than two times 4-0 and 4-1 win and than a 0-1 loss.
And if someone would say before the WC that the Netherlands would reach the Final, I would declare him insane.
Maybe in four years in Brazil, Dutch German Final?

Shall I move your name from Germany to Holland in the list? :D
Nnaaaah, my "love" for the dutch soccer team definately does not go THAT far! :D
A little late catching on the bandwagon but put me down for the red white and blue baby! :) nice place

and The Dutch and Spanish will go deep into it... maybe pk's but probably no farther than ET. I'm kinda new to most sports that aren't very popular in america (except Racing :))

Getron -> It sure it would be nice ! ;D You have been added to the list !
Hi art128, not with the World Cup Trophy, but MY team got a hero Welcome. Nice in Amsterdam with the Canals, and the people. Great to see it, and hopefully in two years we hope to become European Champions.
We love Oranje!!!!!!!

'flick' *turns on the lights* Let there be light! (I always say that when I turn on the lights, God complex and all)
Well, this place needs a good dusting. 'Art! Grab a broom' ;D
The Rugby World Cup is due up again in October. I'll be running a tipping comp again, and hope my partners in crime will be around to help out.
Keep an eye here for detail in the next month or two.

Robin! Grab a broom! :D
Hehehe, all done.
I even gave a fresh coat of paint.....remember my paint job last time. ::) ;) And stocked the fridges, the bar stock will come later, they stopped at my house first. ;D
Since 1998 I'm always wearing a shirt of the italian national soccer team during the time of the world cup or the european cup. In private of course, not at work or in church.
It never happened before to me ... this is a completely new situation ... what do you think? Is it okay to wear it this year again?
Is someone interested in world cup pre-analysis?
What do you think about Egypt? Last time the took part in the final round it was 1990, 28 years ago. I don't know - are they strong are they weak? Well, there's Mohamed Salah, end of may playing the champions league finals with Liverpool. A really great player.
What about Messi? 2014 Argentina was placed second. Are they stronger this time?
Or will Belgium surpise everyone?
This cup is going to be SO weird, with so many classic teams watching it from home!
There is also a lot of epic material on those underdog teams that somehow managed to classify, not only because of some repentine dumbness on their rivals, but also because of some authentic sport prowess on the qualificatories.
Even if Chile didn't classify (deservedly, IMHO, because of the horrible managering Pizzi did), for the sake of the tournament, I'll go with our traditional rivals, that have showed some impressive improvements under the direction of Ricardo Gareca.
Mark me as rooting for Perú on this championship; who knows, maybe they can overcome history this time...
in Canada.... our team never makes the world cup because we cant win in Central America. So consider yourself fortunate you've atleast seen your team play :). I go for France due to my french heritage, although I do not speak French.
Yesterday Canada beat Russia 5:4 while to the surprise of all Switzerland beat world champion Finland. So Canada will meet Switzerland in the semi finals of the world cup. Ice hockey.
