TheTeaCats Concoctions
Ok been messing around with the LE recently as I find the BAT just a little too
intricate for me. Just too many things but at least I can use it so there is still hope.
As I find the LE easier to work with I thought I'd show some recent stuff I
have done. Who knows some may even get released :)
Any how on with the show
This first pic uses a model by Berto found on the stex.

Again I used a different model by Berto to create this

So what do you think? Any hints tips etc appreciated :)

The space in the first two lots looks a bit meagre. They need to get the cows and tractors in and out, don't they ? :P It would look better if you got rid of either the barn or the grain elevator to make it more airy. Otherwise, very good
Derry , your lots are great  good work my friend &apls
Nice lots. I to think that the first one is a little to compact. Maybe use a larger lot or take something out to make more space. ;)
Really amazing lots, great work &apls

May be your right but then I did show only one view ::)
Then again the Chestnut trees by Simfox cover it up a bit which was intended. (I really like those trees :D :D)
Anyway how about some pics from all the angles ;)

My intention was that the barns on the left acting as a milking shed and the grain elevator as storage.
Maybe a larger lot would be better but I quite like its compactness.
So comments,critique, suggestions all welcome

oh i like it. i espescially like the trees you put in. it's great and very eye-catchy. i also don't find it too compact, it's great as it is at the moment. and finally: that's some good work. :)
Cheers Folks for your comments
Ok I made myself another lot last night.
This time I used a model by RP. His Spring Cottage (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=13690&v=1) to be exact.
The props I used come are BSC MEGA Props - CP Vol01
BSC Mega Props - JMyersAgriculture01
BSC Textures Vol 01
SimFoxProps_8Chestnuts
And standard Maxis props/families.
How about some pics :)

Wow TeaCat, those lots are looking really amazing! &apls
I cant find much to put a finger on here, only thing is why not put in some people-props and maybe some more "trash" in the yard? (farms around here usually are kind of messy sometimes.. :P )
Great work on these!
I like it. Maybe you could put a dog and a couple of kids playing by the slide, and a couple of men by the barn/garage. I really like the propane tank back behind the garage. Very realistic.
Thanks for the kind words and suggestions everyone

Anybody else see anything that could be improved?

I like much, but you should spread out, extend, more the farm.
The buildings are side-by-side

Thanks folks for those nice comments
I added some people props at points X - Thanks for the suggestion folks  makes all the difference.
You should also note the garden furniture is different ;D

I take it you are talking about point A.
I disagree on this occasion. I was trying to simulate the fact that the buildings were added as needed and therefore
it's a mix and match of whatever the farmer had handy to build some storage space.
I think it gives the impression of a realistic farm.
Keep the suggestions coming folks - They are all noted ;)
btw I have something planned so keep your eyes peeled

I think you did a great job on this farm and I wouldn't change anything else.
Robin &apls
Great farms Derry , especially this last one ... I wouldn't change anything about props except that you shouldn't use twice the same group of people - and I Love Simfox's chestnut trees , he's also talented for trees ...
My other suggestion is deleted base texture for grassy tiles as everybody now use a terrain Mod . It would fit better . That said and right know , I'm not sure that the dirty paths you're using are overlays or base textures ... ::)
&apls &apls
that lot is awesome Derry  very great work in all the way !!
hiya derry hows you doing, very nice work there &apls
So glad you decided to give us a glimpse of your work in progress, Derry. I saw some farms you created in TaTT, and this is a stunning continuation of it. You definitely have a talent for creating rural scenes, and I'm anxious to see for far you take this newest venture.
Later...
Joan
Beautiful layouts. Maybe some larger lot sizes since I remember farm life spread out more, after all we are out in the country. My uncle had a 600 cow dairy farm (1957) and I remember how helterskelter the whole layout was and that's what I look for when I see farms in SC4. Thank you for your great farms.
Well I thought I'd try another farming lot and wondered what you think?
No dependencies required $%Grinno$% $%Grinno$%
Aside from the model file of CAL's Return to Summerton Mill.
And yes I noticed the tree growing out of the shed but only after I had posted the pic ::)

Derry....
Awesome lot, but double check your rotations and the placement of the trees. ;) Some of them are in the buildings. Other than that, I love it.
Robin &apls
I like the greenhouses you've added in back. Lining them up like that gives a nice appearance of one fluid building. It might be all Maxis, but you make it look good. My only thought would be in regard to the mill wheel. There is no indication that there was ever water flowing through the area, nor any rocks or anything near it to suggest otherwise. Even with the paths around it presently, there's no suggestion a bridge was ever built, vehicle, foot or otherwise. Perhaps some rocks/weeds at the base of the wheel might help with that. Aside from that, I like it.
-Matt
The lot itself is nice. I go with Robin according to that.
However:
The Mill. It's a water mill. There are some left around where I am so I know them rather well. If you put a water mill you need to plop water next to it. Or next to it below ground - that's possible too, saw something like that here in the Black Forest where they kanalized a creek and colse the creek with concrete slabs. Possible - but you will always see the kanal somewhere.
I don't see neither a kanal nor a creek. And a water mill without water is rathe senseless - unless water disappeared because all become desert but in the desert there's no agriculture.
I have a farming lot with kanals in my plugin folder. I never was able to connect it properly to any kanal.
Exchange the mill with another building and most probably I am fine with it ;)
Bernhard
Bernhard.....there used to be a river there many years ago, but it is now all dried up. ::) ;)

I agree with Matt here. It wouldn't hurt if some remains of that river still were visible... a dry river bed and maybe a bridge for the path crossing it, and a pond under the mill wheel.
Thanks for the really helpful comments. Glad you like the overall effect ;D
Robin: Yes I noticed the trees after I had posted the pics but that's easily solved but I'm glad you like the overall effect :)
Matt: Thanks for the encouraging and constructive critique. Yes of course there should be some evidence of the creek.
That's something to fix and your tips about rocks, weeds, etc I like that.
Bernhard: Everything you said makes sense now that I think about it. I shall go back and have a go at sorting it out. :)
Tage: Thanks also for the suggestions. they've given me some ideas. :)

Derry that is wow!!!!
The mill pond looks nice, though it still looks like the pond/wheel is there for show instead of something that was there as an original building that was then repurposed into a farm, if that makes sense. As a showpiece it looks good though. I'm curious to see how it might look as a dry creek bed with just a few rocks and weeds to suggest the now-dry creek. Either way you go with it, this is some fine lotting Derry.
-Matt
Derry I have to agree with Matt, it does look like a show piece now. The only way I can think of changing it would be to put the house on the left and add the creek in and than rearrande everything else to fit after. I do like this one alot though. In the end it's all up to you. What makes Derry satisfied and happy?
Robin
