Hi Geoff

I can't remember my range... could you remind me?

Ta!
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it

geoffhaw

Hi Lee!  Welcome to the old-age club!   :D

Your range is 0xF2100000 to 0xF21FFFFF

Allocated on 08/11/2006!  Doesn't time fly when you're having fun!

Magneto

Hi, I already have a range but I'd like to know if I can also use it for transit textures.

Thanks

memo

I'd assume, the answer is no. Transit textures have a different Group-ID (0x1ABE787D) than base and overlay textures. One has to be very careful in using IDs from this range because not only transit textures are in there, but also all the FSH textures by Maxis for BATs, Automata, etc. Undesired side-effects like textures on buildings are likely. A similar example is the reason why Project 0E became Project 57.

Moreover, transit IDs are usually coordinated by the NAM. The NAM takes up the entire range 0x5####### as well as parts of 0x3#######, as far as I know. The meaning of these IDs is more than just referencing textures, though, which makes it important to organize them in a structured way.

Anyway, it really depends on what you are planning to do. If your plan is to make a texture replacement mod, the IDs are predetermined which is fine. If you wish to create new transit items, the right thing to do would be to accost the NAM team with it.

Magneto

That makes sense... Thanks for the thorough answer.
