Dustin has me all kinds of inspired right now so I thought I would expand on one of his ideas, which I do not think exists. This will be the thread to place your region into the world. I think Dustin's format should also be applied here:

"My region is located in [country], [province, state, district, canton, other political subdivision, etc], [city, town, burg, village, place, etc]."

The one thing that I would mention though is maybe you do not know specifics and for others your region will have many towns/cities/villages/etc... That is okay, as I said just get as specific as possible and it will be talked over and your region will be represented. I thought that this would be a neat way of finding out who your neighbors are in Sim Nation and could add some interesting story lines that involved multiple MDs.

I will go first and get us started on which hopefully will be a fun thread :D

My region (Elizabeth County) is located in the United States of America, near the western side of Tennessee.

What a great idea, Adam!

3RR is number 2.  The region is located right where many cartographers mistakenly place the "Northwest Angle" of the US-Canadian border.  Silly them!

So, we have

My region, Orleans County, is just where it should be:  Orleans County, New York State, United States.

Between Buffalo and Rochester & along Lake Ontario is where you'll find it.

This is quite a cool idea! One suggestion, though--perhaps the numbers on the map should be a different color? I had bit of a hard time trying to locate black numbers against a black and white map. Just a suggestion, though!

Oh! And, if you'd like, plop Commonwealth of Marathon down on the Maine-New Brunswick border!

This is a great idea. We'll get to see where everyone's regions are and who's got the same area as other people. :P

Anyway, the continent/country of Lamona, home to my region the Commonwealth of Paradise, is located in the Pacific Ocean,  about 1000 miles south of Hawaii.

EDITI've caught this one, too, and added it to the map as #13, my friend. -DE

Well, here it is and I also included the earth's solar system to compare where about it is situated. I see that many other CJ's in different solar systems exist, and if they want to, just add them to the picture. The galaxy is M17.

Thanks for including us extraterrests.

For an MD/CJ to be put on here must it be active at SC4D? If not, feel free to stick Virgin Shores on there a little bit off the coast of the state of Washington.

Hmm, I have no idea where my region fits.

The Greater Terran Region was designed to be a totally fictional region, but located somewhere on the planet Earth.  The exact location I have not yet thought of.

Anyone have an idea of where my region should be?  I'm open to any suggestions!   :P

For now though, you might want to stick it in the fictional category with mrbisonm, although it's not on another planet.  Its up to you.

Best,
-Haljackey

Well, than you just do what I do: place it somewhere where it fits the best (that's what I did with Imaginia, which is also fictional). The GTR will likely be located somewhere in Canada or the US.

This is a great intiative!

I9113N, we might get into a confliect, LOL. Because my Zollernmark Kingdom occupies Groningen as well as Friesland, Drenthe and Overijssel from the Netherlands. Besides, there are also quite some parts that are taken from Germany's Lower Saxony, which are Aurich, Leer, Bentheim, Wittmund, Friesland, Ammerland, Diepholz, Celle and Wesermarsch. Or to make it easy, have a lookg at this map...   ;)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ld-host.de%2Fuploads%2Fimages%2F7fcaa87bb8b24009dd3b84f1032f94b0.png&hash=6fd5b4d739afe5eeb60ea329cccaf87de776166c)

In addition, there's an oversea territory in South Africa occupied by the Zollernmark, called Zuijderlande (with Scatven as the local capital). It takes the districts Ugu and Sisonke from the KwaZulu-Natal Province.

I'd say that imaginary or fantasy regions that are earth-like should be placed somewhere on earth. Just look at your region and building style and you can imagine where approximatively it could be, therefore it should be placed in that area. Example if your style is somewhat mediterranian, then your region could nicely fit somewhere in Greece, Italy or southern France, but I recommend to place it where no real existing city exists since this is *fantasy* or *could have been*, just to leave the room for those who actually have or will build that real city.
For what I have seen in his CJ/MD with Haljackey, it would fit in nicely somewhere near Minneapolis or Duluth/Minnesota or Moosejaw/Manitoba. What do you think? Kinda looks like that style and reminds me of it.

Thanks for numbering mine dedgren.

Wow, what a great response we have had already. I am bringing the current map to here for right now so that we know where everyone is while I update the main map to show the continents. I think as more individuals add on it will look a lot more organized if we use maps of continents, which will be colored so it should be easier to see the contrast of where the region is. It will take a little while to get the new maps updated (especially since I am getting ready to go to work shortly) but hopefully we will have them updated ASAP.

In addition, to address an issue that mrb brought up, I would agree with him that if your fantasy region were earth-like that you should choose an area on the earth. If you are having problems, give us some info on climate, size of region and your fellow SC4D members will help you pick a spot. Carry on city developers, carry on

Nyhaven is located on the Columbia River delta, on the Washington side, between Cathlamet and Skamokawa (which, if it doesn't appear on a map, is to the northwest of Cathlamet), USA.

Yes that could be a problem.... Well then just put in the one in eastern Romania, it's called Sylvania.

For what I have seen in his CJ/MD with Haljackey, it would fit in nicely somewhere near Minneapolis or Duluth/Minnesota or Moosejaw/Manitoba. What do you think? Kinda looks like that style and reminds me of it.

The GTR will likely be located somewhere in Canada or the US.

Hmm, well after doing lots of thinking, I am contemplating somewhere else:

Nieuw Nederland is situated in North America, the area now known as the states of New York and New Jersey, and Connecticut. It does not have colonies as it's a former Dutch colony itself...

In seems we have little county uprising and declaring indepency.... the Dutch Americans are not sure how to deal with that rioting Orleans County on their soil.... ;)

Awesome idea with the big continent maps, but maybe you should make them thumbnails and link them to the full sized versions, its just a very large top part of the post...

All right, many members have recommended another possible location for the GTR:

Also, I move to alter the image provided for Oceania. If you're doing continents, then you ought to rename that image "Australia" but Oceania (by some definitions) also encompasses New Zealand, Polynesia, Melanesia, Micronesia, and Papua New Guinea. The one provided by David is good, but still leaves out the Pacific Islands, not sure if anyone has made their regions there though.

Joel and Everyone Else Who Has Posted,

Agreed on the maps and as you probably could see by when posts were made, the PYRITW kind of died. Have no fears though, I am back into finding maps that are going to work for the sizes of landmasses and a way to mark them and I believe 110% that the "Place Your Region in the World" thread will be revived ;)

My region Atrubia is, in-fact, its own country on the eastern edge of Saudi Arabia and about 50 miles south of Kuwait. Atrubia is a very oil country and prospers off of oil. We have some of the biggest reserves in the world.

I'm working on three different regions: 2 real life bases, one is from a video game:

SAN ANDREAS: From  "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas", not making it as it appears on the game, it's all large cities, I like it for two reasons, first off I'm a huge fan of the game (I'm also gonna search for Liberty City and Vice City) and second it has mountains, river, lakes, hills, makes it look like real life, a little of everything.
I can't find any small maps.

PUGET SOUND: It's the entire Seattle and Bellevue area, it also has parts of Kitsap County, and parts of Shoreline and extends up to Snoqualmie Pass. I like the topography of it, it's just to dificult to recreate it from the real city, even though I live in Seattle. Similar to:

EVERETT: It has the entire city of Everett, WA, and also parts of northern Snohomish County, and also southern Skagit County. A bit similar to this map:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.washingtonstatesearch.com%2FWashington_maps%2FEverett_maps%2FEverett_Washington_State_map_3.jpg&hash=4370fa0bd56b579fd100725b755ff275ae667667)

I'll add photos when I learn how to do that in SC4Devotion

To place images in Sc4Devotion you first take them in-game by pressing CTRL-Shift-S, or by going into the options menu in-game. Then you go into your "My Documents" folder, double click Sim City 4, and you should see about 8-10 folders. One should be called "Albums." If you have it that is fine, if you don't than you can easily create one (but you may have to go back to the game an retake your pics). Then upload them to any photo sharing site, personally I use photobucket (http://photobucket.com/), but any other site will do. ;) But first you may want to edit your pics so they are in jpeg format. The game is programmed to take them in PNG format which take them in sizes about 10x larger than jpeg. The easiest way to do this (I think anyway) is to do this in Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/). This is the easiest way. You first click "file" and then
"open". Then navigate the folders till you come to the "albums" folder again and then open the pics. Then "Save As" and put the format to jpeg. Then you can upload them to Photobucket or whaever website you use. However, for the saving images as jpeg I recommend making a sub-folder in the albums folder called "everything" or something like that. Hope this helps you greatly!
