Title: Bliss - Goodbye
Post by: Russell on April 25, 2007, 02:54:50 PM

The regime, here represented by the famous statue known as Mother Regime, welcomes you to the totalitarian city of Bliss...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg238.imageshack.us%2Fimg238%2F1714%2F30250701ye2.jpg&hash=7c7c9c886e7493fbcfad1c20fa750141de4ff35a)

...where architects use the same blueprints over and over again, a favour granted upon them by the regime, since it spares the city and its population the danger of being confused by too much architectural variety...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg131.imageshack.us%2Fimg131%2F1061%2F78445270ch3.jpg&hash=7779e6d39aa989d6822a101152a740ffb5d45af1)

...which is clearly visible in this delightfully monotonous flow of rowhouses...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg337.imageshack.us%2Fimg337%2F7803%2F56509645zj8.jpg&hash=04d805f5a77e21a734335945e9b140d9318bfe78)

...some of which Mother Regime watches over at night...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg131.imageshack.us%2Fimg131%2F8064%2F94774688ox3.jpg&hash=ffe0f3450fa998abc4a484c388fbaf4c012fc445)

...while a smokestack from an underground crematorium lights up like a candle, consuming the remains of those who have perished during the day in the industries where the citizens of Bliss slave away endlessly, without a single holiday in sight...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg78.imageshack.us%2Fimg78%2F5210%2F73698500rv8.jpg&hash=94c8e50e8df6221fe9b4c6f08c198702b306f4c5)

...unless, of course, a holiday means a visit to a museum or a library, like these three of a distinct chinese character, where past, present and future history of the regime takes shape in numerous displays of glorious propaganda.

Wow what a morbid place to live, and what a great way to present it! :P

I like it! In a sick and twisted kind of way...  :P

Will there be more? ;)

M4346, the regime thanks you for being the first to comment, and says that more is to come.

Oooh! You're scaring me! :P Just joking of course. :D Looking forward to more then, and welcome to SC4D MD-land. ;D Say hi to the regime from me! :P

We like this MD as well.       Such an uninspiring place.    Exactly what people need.     Sameness.     This eliminates the stress of thinking about being different.   People will be much happier this way.   Wether they like it or not.    ;D

Gaston: uninspiring? This? What could possibly be more inspiring than residing in a lofty city like this:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg183.imageshack.us%2Fimg183%2F4976%2Fbliss2hl1.jpg&hash=bd131e9f4d7ca10baec9b239a9d3c528b090adc3)

And Shadow Assassin, the people of Bliss are basically nothing more than sheep. At least that is what the regime considers them to be.

Wow......great pictures and very nicely built up city.  So many different things to look at.  Very nice layout and great choice in bats.  Love the smoke tower.

Thankyou, Rooker1, your comments are greatly appreciated. A lot of thought has gone in to the layout of this city, and all the bats have been carefully selected in accordance with the fastidious taste of the regime. And as you can see in this picture, there is room for much, much more.

Looking good, Russell! I think you've got something good going here with the backstory about the totalitarian regime, and I especially like how you've named it "Bliss." Very clever! I'll be looking forward to more!
Title: Re: Bliss
Post by: Tarkus on April 26, 2007, 02:37:28 PM
Wow . . . now this is a really unusual MD--this is quite Orwellian and Wachowskian.  Rather unsettling. :D  And yes, the name is very ironic.   ;)  Looks like you're quite a city builder, Russell, and I like the fact that you are, in a very creative way, commenting on the whole "no repeated buildings" mantra that many MD/CJ authors follow.  Good usage of the canals as well.

I await what the "regime" ??? has in store . . .

Superb job!

Fantastic start to your MD and welcome.

Thank you for those nice comments, patfirefghtr, thundercrack83, Tarkus, Flipside and belfastuniguy - they will be used in regime propaganda to convince the people of Bliss that they are living in the best of cities.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg72.imageshack.us%2Fimg72%2F6541%2Fbliss15wf2.jpg&hash=5e051dc091280b887d901acf9ed596c7434b8316)

Meanwhile, night falls over Bliss...

...and people realize to their delight that the regime has decided to satisfy their demands for a park with a nice, warm, cozy tirefire.

LOL....I love the fact my words will now be used to force the people to believe their city is fabulous.

I have my marshmallows and gasmask (for the fumes..of course) ready for that lovely inviting fire.  $%Grinno$%

Oddly enough, and not according to plans, the tirefire did not turn out to be the successful place for rest and relaxation that the regime had hoped it would be, so it was therefore removed and replaced by housing, and to compensate, this park was constructed - however, it is locked and garded by the secret police and not available for public use, since parks are regarded by the regime to be nothing more than breeding grounds for laziness and immoral activities in the bushes.

Hahahaha! God you have a weird sense of humour! Or, uhm, is this not meant to be funny?

It is rather Orwelian (you took the words out of my mouth Tarkus), with a pinch of satire and sarcasm even! I love it

Beautiful park, and best you keep those citizens out of there lest they ruin it, or worse, enjoy it! :D

Parks are simply there to be looked at, how dare the sims think that they should be allowed to use it when they could be in places of work helping make the nation more productive.

Again a wonderful update and refreshing to see something different and with humour for added measure.

Wow, this is really an entertaining MD in a very odd way.  It's laced with a dry, dark, subtle sense of humor and of course, some absolutely fantastic pics.  That tire fire park--how totally totalitarian. :D  Living on the edge, indeed.  Looking forward to seeing more propaganda . . . er . . . updates.

Badsim, Strechnitz, Thundercrack83, Belfastuniguy, Tarkus - it is with gratitude that your comments are read. They encourage the regime to continue its strict treatment of the people in Bliss. So thank you very much.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg254.imageshack.us%2Fimg254%2F2566%2Fghfghjq4.jpg&hash=0a710fedb0bab9953faab7ade902b8517cf262f6)

Meanwhile, as we, the regime, gaze at our city of Bliss...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg254.imageshack.us%2Fimg254%2F4531%2Fsssny3.jpg&hash=eea37c5e586bcbcb056a9514f92c7e38aa5662a6)

...we feel the need to convince you, dear spectator, that our city truly is a paradise where you are liberated from the burdens of freedom of thought and speech...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg443.imageshack.us%2Fimg443%2F7561%2Fssssku6.jpg&hash=d703cba1480edc7567e4877770ff73744363d962)

...so our current intention is to question one of our happy citizens, who, without a doubt, will tell you that life in Bliss leaves nothing to be desired...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg231.imageshack.us%2Fimg231%2F6243%2Fsssssed6.jpg&hash=1c797258b460c822cff466458350cc01fef6f409)

...a citizen like this woman here, who, when confronted with our hovering microphone, immediately says that "the regime is the light of my life", and then wanders off...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg233.imageshack.us%2Fimg233%2F9353%2Fblissla2.jpg&hash=cab0681f0e0fec08c9970152856853293281fa7a)

...so what you, dear onlooker, can derive from this thorough investigation is that the people are happy in our city - the city of Bliss, where people feel exactly what this sign proclaims.

Indeed it is, isn't it? ;D As soon as his imperial majesty saw it he wanted to turn over the entire system of Stropon and take on the bliss model. &mmm fortunately his loyal ministers prevented him from that radical action:)
He sleeps now, for a week or two... ???

One question dear Russel. For a regime in total control I don't see any outward signs of it's presence other than a statue, a sign, and a flying microphone. where is the regime, where are the guards? :satisfied:

"Blissfully" unsettling as always, Russell.  ;)  That industry seems to go on for ever, and the way in which the development abruptly ends in those city shots kind of creates a surreal quality. The satellite dish is a nice touch as well--looks like Bliss' residents better get the aluminum foil out. :D

Title: Re: Bliss
Post by: Russell on May 03, 2007, 05:10:09 PM
Thundercrack83: Thanks. Industries are lovely.  ;)
Strechnitz: It can be mind control, it can be something else. We'll just have to wait and see. :D
Tarkus: Glad you like it. However, aluminum foil has just recently been banned by the regime. Might just have something to do with the dishes. Or just an effort to save metal.  ;)
Belfastuniguy: Thank you. And yes, this is a government with nothing but the peoples happiness in mind.  ;)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg172.imageshack.us%2Fimg172%2F8792%2F74178945mn8.jpg&hash=45cebe33928e201674986acaf6d9becb3d5bdbbe)

While we wait for the presence of satellite dishes to be explained, let us look at Bliss, the city of light and perhaps also repetition...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg138.imageshack.us%2Fimg138%2F7696%2F44309344cw6.jpg&hash=5eedad9318c92c5144b02343105edefc087bb003)

...a break area, a generous gift to the people from its benevolent masters, a beautiful square adorned with barbed wire to protect those who use it from the perils of traffic and the risk of falling into water and drown, and without such dangers as benches (sharp edges) and trees (can fall down)...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg47.imageshack.us%2Fimg47%2F3610%2F45218107fh6.jpg&hash=147be31dabf5c128246ccbce0b9793505755da86)

...and just look how happy these people are, using this vast area so generously bestowed upon them by a regime that never hesitates to reward its people when rewards are in order and always has what is best for them in mind.

The break area looks wonderful. Why should the need trees, all they do is cuase mess in autumn. The people should be grateful their protection is being thought of.

I love the density of the development, very great work

More brilliantly crafted totalitarianism! I love the justifications that the government comes up with for doing the things they do! No benches because they have sharp edges. That's great!

Post by: Russell on May 04, 2007, 01:24:17 PM
Thundercraft83: Thank you. And yes, the regime is very thoughtful when it comes to the safety of its citizens.  ;)
Belfastuniguy: You and the regime share the same conviction: that trees only cause, as you say, a mess, and therefore all trees lining the pavements in the city of Bliss are made of plastic.

And finally, Patfirefghtr, you request a great place in which to reside in Bliss...

The increasingly popular break area has been decorated with a powerplant, great for children to climb on and a terrific conversation piece for grown-ups out on a stroll.

This is hilarious. So trees and benches are health hazards, but a powerplant is fun to climb on? :D

I know now that thinking is wrong but er...there is no logic in this. would the regime care to explain  ;)

Dear Strechnitz, benches and trees are health hazards, and a powerplant is really a fun place for children, at least according to the regime, and the regime is always right. And by "THINKING IS WRONG", the regime of course means that it is wrong for people to think for themselves, and the proclamation on the sign would have been changed to "DO NOT THINK FOR YOURSELF", had it not been for the distraction caused by an explosion near one of the satellite dishes. After thorough investigation, it was concluded that this explosion was caused by an underground political group, GUPOGUD, short for Give Us Parks Or give Us Death, a movement demanding parks instead of break areas, and not hesitating to use explosives to underline these demands. However, the loss of lives and the damage to the city did not concern the regime as much as the fact that it had been interrupted just seconds before this satellite dish would have inaugurated a radical mind control-programme, and that something called GUPOGUD had dared to challenge the regime.

As always, your comments are deeply appreciated by the regime. Thank you.

However, there never was an explosion. It had all just been an illusion caused by microwaves transmitted from the satellite dishes, making the citizens of Bloss see what the regime wanted them to see and believe what the regime wanted them to believe. GUPOGUD too was an illusion, since the people of Bliss are far too controlled to be able to form an underground movement. It had all been an experiment most successful, and the regime...

To stroll the between the majestic buildings along the tranquil avenues and delightful barbed wired walkways, ahh, what a life. Ahh, to live in Bliss.

Thank you everyone for those last comments. However, the city of Bliss has been completely obliterated after one of its inhabitants dared raise his voice against the hovering microphone - and such a rebellion was certainly not tolerated by the regime, which decided to annihilate the city by clicking on its almighty destruction-button, and a new city almost identical to Bliss but without such disobedient inhabitants is currently under construction.

Title: Bliss
Post by: Russell on May 29, 2007, 04:35:34 PM

In a letter to us, the Regime, written by our subjects in our new city of Bliss and kindly dictated to them by us in order to help them with such difficulties as grammar, spelling and choice of words, they expressed their gratitude for being given an opportunity to live under our watchful eye, gladly relinquishing their freedom in return for no taxes, no pollution, no fires or crime, and no parks, much to the delight of those who are afraid of open spaces, claim to be allergic to pollen or hate having their clothes ruined by grass stains.

We were, of course, pleased with this letter, and decided to continue to grant our subjects...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg178.imageshack.us%2Fimg178%2F8297%2F55ho1.jpg&hash=c345943d4299bd34ff56c5efe4706a910d60858d)

...a life in Bliss. Millions reside in these cosy cottage-esque houses, and yes, one has to admit they make Bliss look more like a village than a city. (This view might seem monotonous, but one has to understand that many blueprints were destroyed during the obliteration of the first city of Bliss, and clever architects are indeed hard to find these days...)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg258.imageshack.us%2Fimg258%2F373%2F54oj6.jpg&hash=36e91a064ecfee620f90a50743c8e85c4984665e)

...and as you can see, everything is in order here in Bliss - all is green and nothing is red - as it should be in a city where a firm totalitarian hand such as ours master everything and keeps such nonsens as wimpy democracy and ghastly freedom from messing everything up.

More is to come.

End of communication.

Glepet: Good that you are whole again. One of the apartments has been reserved for you, and a position as supervisor at the neighbourhood crematorium awaits you. Please prepare for long work hours and no holidays and a permanent stench emanating from your clothes.

Rooker1: Thank you very much. Yes, we do have an odd sense of humour...and we also like the repetition. And you are right: it is easy getting tired of a city after a while. They are always the most fun in the beginning.

Strechnitz: Thank you. It is a bliss to be back again. And for you, the shards are free, and not only that, as a benevolent gesture, the Regime has delivered an entire crate of these treasured souvenirs to His Holy imperial Majesty Jerome Victor IV. We hope he enjoys them.

Patfirefghtr: Your jubilation is most welcome. And the Secret Police has no wish to hunt you down. They, as We, regard you as a friend and allied.

Bat: Thank you. It is good to be back. And after experimenting with mosaics, We have decided to continue the use of more regularly shaped pictures.

Filasimo: We have not heard from you before. Thank you for liking our job, but We assure you that We will never fall, and the people will never experience variety - that would only confuse them.

Tooheys: Thank you. We take pleasure in hearing that you enjoy the design of our city. Your comment will henceforth be used by our Ministery of Propagande when it comes to conveying our subjects they live a life of bliss in Bliss.

A proud moment when the Regime launches its first space shuttle. The citizens living nearby feel not only the blast, but also a sense of delight for being in the center of history, and shards of glass from the broken windows will always be regarded as valuable souvenirs from this historic occasion.

Classic!

It looks like I missed a few updated here, sorry about that! Bliss is looking more and more wonderful with each one, too! The regime certainly knows how to take of their citizens and, from the looks of those zones, does a great job with getting as many happy citizens in there as possible! Keep up the great work, Russell!

Well, I guess for the citizens, ignorance really is Bliss. :D  With the regime to do everything for them, they don't have to have a care in the world ;).  That Mt. Bliss is quite a sight.  Does the regime by any chance have some secret stuff under/in the mountain?  That would be the perfect place for something  . . . covert.  Keep on stifling your citizens, for their own good of course. ;)

The Regime responds to the latest comments:

Thundercrack83: Thank you. We love taking care of our citizens. And as our number of subjects just increased to 7 million, our way of zoning has turned out to be more effective than we thought.

Bat: Thank you. Your comment about our pictures is currently used to encourage our drones in our Ministery of Propaganda.

Mattb325: Stifling and ghastly, yes, perhaps, but the people insist We keep it that way. And We live to serve our people. But thank you for the commendation.

Filasimo: Your prophecy has prompted us to arrest every citizen bearing that name. They were all shot while trying to escape, and the use of the name Neo has for ever been banned.

Tooheys: Thank you. Brown is such a lovely colour. And Mount Bliss still patiently awaits its first climber, were it not for the fact that climbing is forbidden, as it is considered a far too dangerous occupation for our fragile subjects.

Tarkus: Thank you, our people are so happy... Mount Bliss hides nothing in it, only behind it, such as hospitals, regarded too ugly to be placed where We can see them...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg518.imageshack.us%2Fimg518%2F1271%2Fttthw1.jpg&hash=4963ef78e30dc49b222ae4219fa781b5509f1c60)

...where it makes this high altitude observation of some of our plantations out in the region, where the ashes from our cremated subjects are used as fertilizer...

...because tons of ashes are produced every day in an average underground crematorium and has to be disposed of somewhere, and We gladly admit the smoke is never purified before entering the air, since it would only confuse our subjects to see smokestacks without visible smoke, not to mention odour-free smoke...

...the first embassy building ever to grace our fair land, currently empty with the exception of Secret Police-appointed decorators furnishing it with hidden microphones and cameras, but intended to be filled to the brim with diplomatic activities if and when a foreign power should decide to provide us with an ambassador for questioning diplomatic relations.

Filasimo: You just managed to get everyone named Miso arrested and shot while trying to escape. So much for your prophecy.

Rooker1: Glad you appreciate the humour. Not everyone does.

Mattb325: The item to which you refer has been removed, both from this MD and Bliss itself. But thank you anyway.

Bat: Thank you. The plantations do make a picturesque contribution to the monotonous mass of city images. But they are rather dull.

Tarkus: Glad you enjoy this. Your message to the Regime has been delivered, and the answer was that they intend to demolish the embassy building and replace it with housing, since no other regime has expressed any wish to appoint an ambassador to Bliss.

Kwaakelar: Your first comment in this MD, thank you for that. And thank you for those kind words.

HAPPY CITIZEN SELECTED FOR TARGET PRACTICE

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg72.imageshack.us%2Fimg72%2F369%2Fold20lady20with20naughtvj5.jpg&hash=971e6d273de0340fcd37a7e68ba432cddf7cf857)

Citizen Ivana Ostrowski, 67, claims to be "thrilled in ways I cannot explain" when surprised with the news that our glorious Regime has chosen her as a prime target for the very first test-firing of the cannons on our new battleship.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg526.imageshack.us%2Fimg526%2F252%2Fjhgjow3.jpg&hash=829260c1fbe93138bf0a57acec107578b13c6517)

"I never knew my beloved Regime had a battleship until now", citizen Ostrowski says, "and I realize they have to take it out for a test shot before letting it out into the ocean". She wipes away a tear of joy and declares: "Oooh, I'm so proud and happy they chose me as a target, I can hardly believe it's true!"

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg520.imageshack.us%2Fimg520%2F7899%2Fhgjdz4.jpg&hash=9ab6e647de263c11219abbccbc4a5234ac550134)

Citizen Ostrowski, residing in this neighbourhood, where people are rumoured to be just as happy as she is over the imminent target shooting, says that she feels a tremendous joy knowing she will contribute to the glory of Bliss by being blown up by the all-new battleship, and continues: "I feel happy knowing that Bliss now has joined the league of seafaring nations with this technologically advanced benemoth, the second glorious craft in our arsenal after the space shuttle." Then she bursts out into tears of happiness and ends by stating: "All hail the Regime!"

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg72.imageshack.us%2Fimg72%2F1449%2Fnnbnfj0.jpg&hash=eebf60558836686021b9a14477eb51bf83c4799c)

And while the guns on the battleship are being prepared to be fired for the very first time, and citizen Ostrowski is being sedated and tied to a chair by the Secret Police as not to ruin this solemn occasion by trying to flee, should panic overcome her in the last minute, we leave this scenario for now, but shall soon return with details regarding its progress.

Mate, these navy guys must be well trained, to hit a person sitting in a chair is a pretty good shot. What sort of range are we talking about? I'm only asking in case Balnavia has to defend itself someday.

Great pic's as usual, do we get to see the actual test or is the news of this test being supressed.

Cheers

We are sad today, so our thank you to Tooheys and Urban are kept short - and Rooker1, you can find the ships here: http://hide-inoki.com/~nob/lot.htm

Citizen Ostrowski was eventually spared...

...but her house was not – it was blown up according to plans, thus helping the cannons onboard the battleship to improve their accuracy, but the destruction was far worse than the Regime had anticipated...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg487.imageshack.us%2Fimg487%2F535%2Fbvnnqn4.jpg&hash=601291b23d9a045a134ed1a8cd54456e9d5ef256)

...and as far as citizen Ostrowski is concerned, in recognition for her service to the Regime, she was promoted captain on this fabulous destroyer, a recent addition to our glorious fleet, onboard which she now lives a happy life operating heavy machinery and toying with ammunition.

Something fishy here  &mmm First the Regime plans to kill the poor woman by cannon fire. This was obviously too hard a target so they swapped to her house and in the attempt blew up the entire neighbourhood!! I suspect that she was an informer who ratted on her neighbours for some infraction against the Regime. She was rewarded and they, well, became more fertiliser for the farms. Of course I could be paranoid and your Navy are just bad shots  :P

Nice update and look forward to more oppression.

Filasimo: As I already said, I only have about two more updates left before I'm through with Bliss. But I have to admit I'm intrigued by your suggestion. Say what you have in mind and I'll see what I can do.

Tooheys: Thank you. The bugs and microphones were indeed salvaged and then recycled by being put to use in homes of unknowing citizens.

Emilin: Thank you. And yes, the palm trees are indeed an oddity, but a decorative one.

Thundercrack83: Thank you. And the Regime continues to indulge its subjects with gifts, the latest being a copy of an opera house, I'll present it in the next update.

Rooker1: Thank you for the use of the word "amazing".  ;)

Urban: An ambassador from the Durewan Antilles would have been most welcome, had the Regime not decided to end its attempts to form alliances with foreign powers. But your suggestion was nevertheless appreciated.

Yowza!  8.5 million?  I have to concur with Robyn, here.  I really hope you and the regime have a fast enough computer to handle it.  If it's on a large tile, it means the population density of Bliss would be 2,125,000 per sq. km, or 3,400,000 per sq. mi.  Craziness.  I'm sure their needs are accounted for.   ;)

Wouanagaine, Urban, Bat, Rooker1, Thundercrack83, Tarkus - thank you for you comments and your attention. I understand it's hard to believe that Bliss has such a large population, and that there is room for so many on a single tile, and how my computer can handle a city of that size - but it's a new computer, and I'm not the least interested in understandings these boring technical things, but I looked, or rather tryed to, and finally I got the computer to say something about 2.41 GHz, 2.00 GB and Core Processor 4600+. That means nothing to me, but I'm sure you can make something out of it.

However, working with a city this size isn't as fun as it seems - for instance, it takes forever for new buildings to be built, I sometimes get lost in my own city trying to locate certain areas, and running the simulation in full speed doesn't go that fast at all. So I'm in the process of shifting my attention to several kinds of smaller cities to make things more varied and fun.

...they are completely unaware of the fact that out in the region there now exists another city: Serene, on which the Regime quietly has worked to divert itself from the increasingly tedious Bliss - and with a population of only 2,3 million, Serene, this tiny duplicate of Bliss, is practically a village by comparison, and much more easy to handle.

By itself it should be record
The industrial is depressing, but I think the population is happy enough to not be loss with unknown building.

And what a lovely serene surrounding the City of Serene is! Mother regime watching down on her law abiding minions in total calm. it is just lovely. And what is that? an opera? isn't that dangerous? could it not corrupt the minds of the Serenians Russel? ;)

or is it for the party barons of the Regime alone? ()stsfd()

Super update.  To get so many buildings the same, I wander how much you have in your pluggins folder, or do you use the Block Modd?
As for the canon are you sure it was an accident?  I heard a rumour about a mole in the area.

Filasimo: Thanks. After this update, we'll go along with what we have planned.

Patfirefghtr: Thank you. The Regime never makes mistakes, so any "accidental" gunfiring always has a purpose. But officially, thery are of course dismissed as accidents. Perhaps an answer to the question why the Regime shoots at its own city one day will be provided.

Wouanagaine: Thanks. But 5500 years, is that long? I did not know that.

Strechnitz: On behalf of the people of Serene: thank you ever so much. And yes, it is an opera, but not used as one, since music and stage performances are illegal.

Meldolion: Thank you - you are welcome to join Serene and feel the serenity  :)

Rooker1: Thank you very much. Yes, I use the Block Modd, very handy when it comes to creating a sort of victorian-looking industrial area. And about the cannon, I feel the need to make an update explaining why the Regime fires at its own people. But that will have to wait.

Urban: Thank you - a new city, that will come as a surprise to the Blissians too. By the way, hiding things are a speciality of the Regime, as the Regime itself remains hidden.

In Bliss, the replica of the San Francisco City Hall houses both the Secret Police and the administrators responsible for enforcing the decisions by the Regime...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg144.imageshack.us%2Fimg144%2F3540%2Fjkghmi1.jpg&hash=3857f5edfbb44cbcca68f8cc14fd7dfc8220c0bb)

...decisions such as creating a whole new city like the city of Serene, the purpose of which is to increase the regional population and of course expand the power of the Regime...

...and Serene undoubtedly is a Bliss lookalike with the exception of features unique for Serene, such as these apartment buildings...

...and eventually we have this: a copy of the opera house in Manaus, Brazil...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg444.imageshack.us%2Fimg444%2F5070%2Fconsolesjh7.jpg&hash=5f5b02867cd64846360cd8db2ad3e930ed06ccb4)

...but since music is forbidden by the Regime (may cause tinnitus or in other ways disturb its beloved subjects), it is used as a surveillance center where activities throughout the city are carefully monitored by the Secret Police...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg444.imageshack.us%2Fimg444%2F7631%2Finterrogationej8.jpg&hash=963bee4afc02bf4cff98775e34e81526865dff45)

...and somewhere in this opera house, happy citizen Seymour Butts, 47, (blindfolded to protect his eyes from the strong lamp), spends time with the authorities and feels compelled to make this following statement: "Serene is a lovely place. I urge everyone reading this MD to move here immediately and join us happy citizens in our worship of the Regime, our true and righteous masters. All hail the Regime!"

I'm sure that the pigeons that fall foul of the acid would probably make a reasonable meal for any citizen that got to them in time before they totally eroded away. Not that I'm saying that the citizens are going hungry.

Filasimo: Yes, the Regime have heard about these rumours and feel rather worried that there may be a rebellion. "$Deal"$

Belfastuniguy: Thank you very much. That comment is used in propagandistic purposes.

Urban: Thank you - the Regime has tracked down those members observed at the airport in Montauk and at the Mango Bay Resort and questioned them severely, as it is not allowed to while away valuable time in tropical surroundings without proper permission - or even with.

Cleaner475: Thank you for your first comment, and welcome to Bliss!  :)

Patfirefghtr: Thank you, but Seymour Butts meant every word and was not forced to say them, not at all  ;)

Bat: Thank you - and I do believe the pictures would be better if I only could master the technique of mosaics...  &mmm

Rooker1: Thank you, Serene only plays a minor part in this endless drama, so it won't be seen that often. Which is sad, because it was much more fun to work with than Bliss.

Thundercrack83: Thank you - and those pigeons are becoming increasingly rare  ;)

Snaper: Thank you, it is my intention to reach 10,000 years  "$Deal"$

Tooheys: Thank you Dave - and acid pigeon is considered quite the delicacy in Serene these days  ;D

Russell, this is a classic  &apls

An industrial amusement park, I love it. I guess the fun comes from watching a lucky member from the audience
losing a limb or an eye in a re-created accident. &mmm

I am sad about the battleship though, I guess we'll have to get our explosions elsewhere (although I'm sure
that this has already been considered).

If I'm ever feeling a bit down, I just have to visit here to see that there are plenty of people way worse off than me  ;)

As always, looking out for more.

Thundercrack83: Thank you for both the nice comment and for observing my birthday  :) - but unfortunately, the newscaster did not survive the lobotomy, and was subsequently incinerated in the very same crematorium featured in his newscast.

Flame1396: Enjoy your marshmallow!  ;D

Tooheys: Thank you - and yes, the accidents in the industrial amusement park provide most of the entertainment. But do not feel sad about the battleship - other ways of getting things to blow up are on their way, and if you ever feel down again, do pay Bliss a visit - the Regime will take just as good care of you as it does of its other happy citizens.  ;D

I wouldn't have thought the general population could afford a car, or is the congestion caused by people running down the streets
fleeing agents of the Regime? &Thk/(

btw russell happy late bday......im getting another report from the wire that has been playing on the loudspeaker from an undisclosed location i remember it saying " Tomorrow tomorrow that ship that was blown brings some sorrow, as for the ship the zion rebellion did blow. My fellow Blissians, the so called regime that has claimed that blown up that ship is no truth but that it was a ship that we have blown up due to the fact that it was in preparations to infiltrate our compound. We can assure you that the rebellion groups are fine and will be freeing you soon!."   -end transmission-

Tooheys: The cars are handed out for free by the Regime, as the citizens otherwise would have to depend entirely on the already overloaded subway system, and getting the workers to and from the industries is a high priority for the Regime, otherwise the economy would collapse.

Filasimo: So far, the Secret Police have heard nothing about Zion. Besides, I've decided not to instigate a revolution as I have great plans for both Bliss and her sister city Serene.

looking after them &mmm.

Rooker1: Thank you, and I quite agree about the stress.  ;)

Thundercrack83: Yes, it is a very large city. Almost too large. How 8 million people can live on such a small surface is a mystery. &mmm

Patfirefghtr:  Yes, you're right.  :)

Urban: Thank you for those grand and kind words  :). And please say hello to the President of the Durewan Antilles from the ruling Gods of Bliss.

Ah, the revered old space shuttle, here taking off for the very last time – how to dismantle this imposing vehicle after the ruling Gods of Bliss had decided they no longer needed it?

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg227.imageshack.us%2Fimg227%2F4781%2F456ab0.jpg&hash=1d319920d08923da3f5cd7c5786cf8ce96aed609)

Just having it fall apart like the copy of the San Francisco City Hall fell apart was not considered a serious option, since that, quite frankly, was a rather dull method of removing one of Bliss' most prominent features.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg295.imageshack.us%2Fimg295%2F4636%2F567iz6.jpg&hash=b97ebb0408eda9f5a8ac5fcf057eae787ed57d3e)

And blowing it up like the loop was blown up did indeed seem like a tempting alternative, but so soon after the loop-incident, another explosion would only be an unimaginative repetition.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg295.imageshack.us%2Fimg295%2F8641%2F234tg2.jpg&hash=bf3078f01eb38df618b879effc7dc2baefab0781)

So instead, the space shuttle was simply removed. Just like that. Removed without a trace, leaving behind it a large, empty square.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg164.imageshack.us%2Fimg164%2F330%2Fwatchingthebritssmxy0.jpg&hash=b955fb4b0859d259232ee1ef4b16ca8421dab9bd)

The happy citizens of Bliss looked at the empty square where the space shuttle had stood, amazed that such a hefty thing as a space shuttle could just... vanish, and were of course also amazed that such a thing as a large empty square suddenly existed in their densely built city.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg295.imageshack.us%2Fimg295%2F4286%2F123sl9.jpg&hash=0bde14082f80ce2406f89add8616832893f5de39)

But the empty square was of course built on in a hurry...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg337.imageshack.us%2Fimg337%2F6603%2Fkopiaavteyesh8.jpg&hash=50315959745bba1b09d9198349453b61c1ee1940)

...and today, nothing exists that serves as a reminder of this tiny chapter in Bliss' history, or Blisstory.

Well my dear Russel. If the good and wise pantheon of Blissful gods would do Stropon and her Holy Imperial Ruler the immense honor of constructing a temple for His Holy Imperial Majesty glory. We, the whole Empire would feel happily obliged to return the favour and construct a magnificent temple devoted to the Olympus of the almighty Gods of Bliss.

And further even! :blahblah:

The Lord High Chancellor Clauwenbach is in that case, prepared to, under the rules of the charter of freedom of religion, to add Blissianism on the list of accepted religions thus making it possible for the Stroponian people to convert to blissianism and worship your olympus of the Almighty Gods of Bliss. and if Blissians were to travel to Stropon in the future. they would not have to do without their beloved deities. and continue to worship as if nothing has changed.

We from the Stroponian government can not tollerate that your secret police install microphones and bugs on our Stroponian soil. however... for the temple we'll make a happy exception for we understand that for bliss, bugging and tapping are not merely ways of information gathering, like it is to us. But a part of your culture and heritage, and therfor allowed in the temple itself :wings:

Patfirefghtr: Thank you, and yes, it is rather strange that such a large object could just vanish into thin air. &Thk/(

Tooheys: Thank you, and we do hope you find the magnificent flying war machine a worthy substitute for the space shuttle.

Strechnitz: as you can see in this hastily composed update, the temple is finished and available for those Blissians eager to revere an imperial saint. And the almighty Gods of Bliss have expressed their delight at having the opportunity to be worshipped in the noble empire of Stropon and even have their way of life elevated to the list of accepted religions. They agree, with slight reluctance, to let carefully selected happy citizens pay Stropon a visit. However, the happy citizens venturing out into the unknown will of course be implanted with a tracking device and followed closely by Secret Police-officials. And as for our proud history of surveillance, we are glad you understand and acknowledge it.

Ah, Russell. What can I say since I was last here?

That flying machine is a benevolent gift of impending destruction indeed!

It was a pleasure seeing inside the Olympus and I must note that your citizens certainly do look far more content when pictured in black & white or sepia tones as opposed to technicolor. ???

Now that is a fine substitute for the space shuttle .

But..um.. what do they do with there "waste". My suggestion to the happy citizens, don't look up. You thought the pigeons were bad  ;D

Nice work with the temples and canals. Another great update.

my my.....

Loving the fact the rulers of Bliss are now gods, fantastic turn of events indeed. For some reason the flying battleship doesn't look in anyway out of place, something hard to do with a non-sci-fi MD.

Loving your work and as always await more MD delight from the Gods of Bliss  :satisfied:

A floating battleship. my my. Oh and why not? &apls

BTW, is this type of ship for sale? or the respectie technology? I mean, a military parade with a battleship "hovering" above the paradesquare is probably a sight to behold. ;D

At least it is something different from the usual coloured stripes made by fighter squadrons. %wrd

Nice update Russel!

Filasimo: Thanks for stopping by and commenting. About the rebel group Zion... I don't know what to do with that, really.  &mmm

Thundercrack83: Yes, ominous indeed.  >:D And thank you - I hope you'll continue to find Bliss amazing.

Mattb325: Thank you for that elegant comment  :) Yes, the flying machine is a promise of destruction, as you'll see in this update. As far as the citizens are concerned, I don't know if they're "content", but at least they look good in the pictures.  :satisfied:

Tooheys: Thanks, and you're right: what to do with the waste? Very tricky indeed...  &Thk/( Glad you appreciate the temples and canals - I really enjoy using them.

Belfastuniguy: What a grand comment, thank you very much   :) - and yes, you're right: the battleship looks just natural hanging in the air over Bliss, I didn't realize that until you mentioned it.

Rooker1: Robin, the Gods allow you to say whatever you want, whenever you want - you're more than welcome to do so.  :) And thank you for commenting.

Bat: Thank you, glad you like what I do.  :satisfied:

Strechnitz: Another one praising the flying war machine  :). For sale, perhaps, ask the Emperor to make the Gods an offer they can't refuse - it does make a striking addition to any city, and leaves no boring coloured stripes after it either  ;). Glad you stopped by, and glad you liked the uppdate.

TheTeaCat: Just when I was about to post my update, your kind comment arrived - thank you ever so much.  :)

My compliments, my dear Russel

A juicy scandal is just the thing to make a day at the courts of law interesting. and indeed This is the Stroponian way ;) abuse of power, sex and a stiff upper lip. how "delicately decadent" lol  :D

The rest of the update is also stunning. And indeed. achieving a godlike status must be dreadful indeed. "For what else is there to achieve if one has reached the summit of human life? Do it all over again just to kill time?" I can't remember who made this quote, but it is so delisciously apropriate for this update that I could not refrain from using it. Great update!! Your use of Peg's skyfarms reminds me of Yuri's cloning factories in Red Alert :D

In fact I think that Yuri would be at home in a city like this....

Doesn't look like anything goes to waste in Bliss. I'm sure the happy citizens rejoice in the fact that their latest meal is all thanks to the ashen remains of recently departed Uncle Bob  :)

Great update Russell.

Another super update, I really like the use of peg's new farms.  It always impresses me as to how much your city is built up.  So many skyscrapers, great work.

As emilin already said, this reminds me of MATRIX...well anyway

It's a good decision to ban all tables. There was an "incident" at Walker's Island's Maya Beach. A tourist stumbled over a rock at the beach and hit a nearby table, that stood under an umbrella. He was injured a little bit, the table was sentenced to be burned :P

Yes indeed urban. But a true god is al knowing is he not..

Great updates Russel,

A welcoming site when one returns from a holiday. and the amount of farms is sky rocketing indeed. although I believe you won´t create a surpluss soon with such population numbers  :)

Thundercrack83: Thank you, the amount of bruises in Bliss has diminished radically thanks to the ban of tables. :)

Filasimo: Yes, many, and more are constantly appearing.

Patfirefghtr : Thamks, the skyfarms are from the STEX and grow in extensively large numbers just like weeds without me knowing why, so I said to myself, why don't put them to
use in the MD?

Meldolion: Thank you for visiting and commenting, and cloning factories sounds inspiring - maybe I could do something with that...  ;)

Emilin: Yeah, they do  ;D

Bat: Thank you, and feel free to stop by anytime :)

Schulmanator: Thanks, all my cities look like this - for some reason, I can never bring myself to make tiny towns and villages... &Thk/(

Tooheys: Thank you - and the happy citizens have never been more well fead than now, thanks to this distasteful recykling.

Rooker1: Thank you, I like the farms as well, not as much as skyscrapers, but almost.  :)

Urban: Thanks, I appreciate your visits and comments - and what an unfortunate table you had at Maya Beach. :)

Strechnitz: Thank you, and welcome back from your holiday, which I hope was satisfying in every way - and regarding the population numbers, I'll post some statistics in my next
update.

Kwakelaar: Thank you for your visit and comment, and although I'm currently really busy with real life issues, I'll soon continue this MD with "proper" updates.

Not too many MD's I can sit there and read front to back... especially after 13 pages.. WOW!

I think the regime has definitely kept things in order, and I mean ORDER! I guess when you can see everything from your wonderful mountain:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg337.imageshack.us%2Fimg337%2F8365%2Fmtthorbf6.jpg&hash=5dd74d26aad4c2e1803df3edaf6e33ed4cf37ff3)

I was listening to a band named Tiamat (Album - Wildhoney, 1994...) Who ironically are from Sweden. That should be your official soundtrack to Bliss.

Now that I am thoroughly sold on Bliss, let's hope none of this happens:

Hmmm, they look threatening. If I have learned anything about this MD, don't take anything on face value. These gadgets either house a powerful destructive device or will suffer a mechanical failure, either way, I'm sure devestation will follow.

A new twist to Bliss. Just waiting for the next episode Russell. Great work

Cheers

LOL I would have to agree with you Dave, I can foresee destruction.....

Wonderful set of previous updates Russell, I do always enjoy visiting Bliss, one of the more unique MD's on SC4D and a very good one also.  :)

Patfirefghtr: Thanks, the Gods are indeed becoming increasingly technical, much because of those mad scientists eagerly at work at the Ministry of Science.

Bat: Thank you, I appreciate it :)

Urban: Thanks, and the Gods enjoyed their stay so much that they're giving her Godlike Holiness a special gift. They hope she enjoys it :)

Thundercrack83: Thank you - yes, as you can see, things are quite blissful and will hopefully stay so.

Iamgoingtoeatyou: Glad you like my humour :)

Shadow Assassin: Yes, they fit in very well - but no lasers yet. Perhaps later.

Tooheys: Thank you - one of these gadgets have recently suffered a mechanical failure due to gravity. More devastation will follow, as I'm not yhet finished with these hovering gadgets ;)

Belfastuniguy: Thank you, so glad you find Bliss unique and very good - it makes me want to conitune this MD in ways I hope you'll continue to like :)

Bat: Thanks :) Here you have some more, not too inspired, but perhaps better than nothing.

Belfastuniguy: Thank you. The Emperor is most welcome to visit Bliss as a guest of the almighty Gods to personally witness one of these fireworks. The hovering gadget can be found here (http://www.geocities.jp/dareka789/bat.html).

Patfirefghtr: Pat, you're comments are always appreciated, and yes, that was one twisted update :)

Thundercrack83: Thanks, the happy citizens love that holiday!  :P

Tooheys: Thank you. I need to stop by Balnavia soon to see what you've been up to lately. I never look at other MD's anymore because of lack of time.  &mmm

Sebes: Thanks, I do love to spoil those Blissians!  ;D Now I'm in the process of giving them an entirely new city, but it's going to take quite some time before it's finished.

...completely unaware of the gas leakage that affected not only their apartment but also a large part of the neighbourhood. But many of the surviving happy citizens believed this incident to be a continuation of the widely popular 'Blowing up of randomly chosen habitats'-day, and therefore applauded the ruling Gods for making their lives so thrilling.

Dear Russel,

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

After vainly trying to endure the ordeal (or should I say failure?) called SimCities Societies, I swiftly and promptly returned to my beloved SC4 - but for various reasons, I had to uninstall it, thus losing every single city I had ever built. So I had to start all over again... with a new Bliss, the same old clutter as its lost predecessor. And just as before, no space is wasted on such vanities as parks, landmarks or monuments, just habitats to house as many happy citizens as possible to worship the ruling Gods.

*

More will follow in the next - and more proper - update, but now, I have to prepare the upcoming new year's eve-celebration.

Happy new year everybody!

Sebes: Thank you, and it really was the ultimate explosion, obliterating a region with more than 30 million inhabitants...but these things happen.

Bat & Pat: Thanks  :)

Strechnitz: Thank you dear Strech, hopefully I'll be able to live up to your expectations when my regular life gets back to normal and I can contrentrate on SC4 again.

Nothing special this time, because I'm terribly distracted by real life-issues, only some images from my weekend with Bliss - but I am planning a major diplomatic event involving some of the regimes that have acted friendly towards Bliss. More about that the next time.

An almost complete section of the city, very spacious indeed because of the canals; to the left stands two sacred obelisks, erected by the living Gods to commemorate the beginning of this new chapter in Blisstory, I mean history.

One of the holy buildings where the happy citizens can pray to their ruling Gods.

Strechnitz: Thank you - I had to look up "zealous" to see what it means, and you're quite right in that assumtion. The statue is de facto solid gold and made from wedding rings more or less voluntarely donated to the Gods after marriages among mere mortals were declared illegal.

This update will not be about the latest temple in honour of the divine deities in power...

...nor will it be about the Pantheon, the seat of the ruling Gods, here seen strolling about in front of it in the evening sun, perhaps talking about...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg230.imageshack.us%2Fimg230%2F4776%2Fdfgfdgql5.jpg&hash=0b4c4cef6abee1f5a7af1d799eb086238fa6a019)

...which, to no ones surprise, exploded before ever roaring into space, probably because of some technical error, or to satisfy the ruling Gods appetite for destruction.

No. This update will, however briefly, begin a lengthy tour into the pride and joy of the Gods: their many glorious industries, numerous and countless...

...providing the happy citizens of Bliss with not only endless hours of joyous work...

...but also works of art, such as this statue representing the happy workers standing united in their love for those divine beings who not only allow them the pleasure of operating heavy machinery...

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg85.imageshack.us%2Fimg85%2F2893%2Fsdggeh4.jpg&hash=4030e92db4a08b4e0b15b497a9adc91fb38a84e5)

...but sometimes also descends upon them on the factory floor to encourage them with words of the utmost divine character .

Bloody hell that's certainly a vast amount for industry.......the gods are certainly making sure Bliss is prepared for anything ;)

Indeed we should, I am taking a small (very small) break from further creating the capital, has taken over a year to get it perfect. But I shall built a glorious temple and update in a week or so ;)

Tooheys: So glad you stopped by and commented  :) Yes, everything has been built on love, because as you perhaps have noticed, the ruling Gods do love their people  ;)

Thundercrack83: Thank you, industries are very interesting to work with. Posting a small image of the pollution stats you requested:

Bat: Thanks, glad you like it  :)

Sauron620: Thank you  :)

Emperor Stormont: Have you worked over a year on the same city??? Now, THAT'S impressive! I'm usually done with them when they cover an entire city tile, and then it's bye-bye. Anyhow, looking forward to the update you're referring to  ::)

Berethor: Thank you  :)

This is my very last update. For various reasons, there will be no more Bliss. I hope that you frequent visitors who have looked, read and commented my MD have enjoyed Bliss - I know I have. It's been fun.
