Nice job on the planes they look so life like as far as you can get in a 2-d anyway. Any chance you will branch over to CitiesXL if it is mod friendly? It would be fantastic to see theses in a 3-d setting.

Looking good.

However... I'm wondering if you can reorient Air Canada A320 in a 90 degree formation rather than the one it's in right now, because I'm having a somewhat difficult time trying to use it on the pre-fabricated interim airport lots that I made.

I do have one other request on mind but i've asked about it before... so i probably shouldn't irritate with a persistent demand.

Great projects in here! My I suggest you some planes? Now that Delta and Northwest are one company there are new delta planes like the B747 or the A330. It would be really incredible to have them in SC4 as well. if you're interested in doing some of them here#s a link with the current former Northwest Delta planes!

The 737 Lots are 50% complete, release is expected in 2-3 weeks

Announcing two new aircraft -
737-700 SAS Norge (http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/52/new737skbba5.jpg) livery by Xiziz
737-700 Southwest Airlines, canyon blue (http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/5071/new737wnb.jpg) livery by Voltaire

cameron, PLT, jack -- thanks!  Always busy... especially when not posting for a month, you know something is coming ;)

SimNation: not at all familiar with CXL... and I suspect these are far too high in 3D polys -- 25000+ just for the 737 and a jetway.
allan: in the upcoming A320 pack, all are rendered 90-degrees, just as the 737 pack.
feliwi: we already have 4 Delta planes, including the 787 which NW ordered ;)   see the Catalog (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=3271.msg217214#new), under 757-200 (my favorite), 787-8, CRJ-200, CRJ-700... and watch here for more.

Rolls Royce power returns to the 747 lineup

747-400 Qantas, 2-class Longreach variant livery by Voltaire

(our Rolls RB211-524 was missing, since the original Cathay scene was corrupted in late 2007)
Apart from the livery which looks superb at any angle, this scene features Qantas' unique wing, elevator, and nacelle pylon paint schemes.

Title: Re: AC Aircraft
Post by: allan_kuan1992 on March 16, 2009, 09:02:42 AM
I believe that jetway-free passenger jumbo-jets (like the A380 + B747) will not be made as that can be somewhat unrealistic if you think about it...
(tries imagining 500 people getting off an airplane at once with only one airstair) :D

On the other hand, jetway-free passenger single-aisle jets (like A320 and B737) are definitely possible; however I haven't seen Voltaire make any of that size after two or so requests from me.

It's safe to say that this treatment may only be reserved to aircraft where jetways are not possible or required, and that those that can have jetways will always have them.
I do concede however this also simplifies BATting work on Voltaire's part as well as reduce the dizzying amount of lots that we might require.

I thought about 747s and A380s for taxi-/runways or for standing in front of hangars and so on!

jack  - it's on my list since last fall... just have to find the time to make it  :P

Wow, finally I realism can be improved with these Asian carrier 737s. Will there be any other Asian liveries?
About the belt loaders and other vehicles: Will they be part of the model or are they seperate props?

Great developments in here so far! Really can't wait for more!

great planes and realistic details such the wings which are completely Boeing!!
Title: Re: AC Aircraft
Post by: Voltaire on March 25, 2009, 10:11:30 PM
Thanks guys!

feliwi - many more asian carriers coming in the Widebody jets, especially the 787. Ironic that only 3 airlines in North America placed orders... yet it's so popular worldwide, the waiting list is a decade or more.

The belt loaders are separate props from the aircraft, they come in two flavors. Three "parked" versions, and many airline-specific "in-use" versions.

The latter are rendered with the aircraft's (open) cargo door, above the end of the belt. The door size and shape is specific to the 737's aft bulk compartment, making them unsuitable for re-lotting on other types. I'll have to make an Airbus door, for example.

Thanks jack - wings definitely make the aircraft... especially in SC4 where we are forced to see them at all times  ;)  They are so hard to model, even with the engineering drawings.

Title: Re: AC Aircraft
Post by: ShadeSlayer on April 22, 2009, 09:53:29 PM
Ah, it seems I've come across a slight problem. I don't know if it's just me, but with the 737's, there are a few of them sitting in the Parks menu with "grass area" or whatever as a name.

I edited these with Lot Editor, and it seems the jetways are detached. Don't know if this was intentional.
Title: Re: AC Aircraft
Post by: Voltaire on April 22, 2009, 10:31:48 PM
That's some re-lotting work in your plugins...

None of my building exemplars have a Parks 0x1006 OccupantGroup, during or after assembly... I use another OccupantGroup while editing.
I guarantee all the aircraft were rendered with attached jetways. Are you looking at the AC 737NG? Mike_oxlong has released a pack of 737 Classics.
Title: Re: AC Aircraft
Post by: ShadeSlayer on April 23, 2009, 07:54:00 AM
Oh, it was probably those packs.

That had me quite confused, as I knew you had attached jetways.

Thanks for the help, and again, great work by all.
Title: Re: AC Aircraft
Post by: cogeo on April 23, 2009, 11:33:44 AM
The 320 is awesome!!! Congrats!!!  &apls

The fuselage and nose are very well proportioned (and I guess the wings too)!

There are two minor points that need to be reworked a little though, I think:
- The wing fences rather look not very much OK to me. Probably somewhat oversized, not so much accurately shaped (could you please post a pic from the side?) and I think they rather need to be moved a little to the back.
- The engine isn't very well proportioned I think (it's a CFM engine, isn't it?). Maybe the front part should be a little narrowed, but the whole engine somewhat thickened. The cone at the back (don't know how it's being called) maybe should be narrowed a little too. The front part of the nacelle doesn't look very much OK either (looks larger than the engine). I think it should be toned down, and look metallic, not painted. Maybe playing a little with the material or light/reflections could fix this.

With the two above points sorted out, the model would be PERFECT to me!

And hope that someone makes automata too (I mean flying ones).

Keep the good work!

Glad I could help shadeslayer

Thanks cogeo! The nose has been improved lately -- I like it much more, compared to the older style on the PreFabs.

You're quite correct, the mesh is stretched in several places. Mainly extra height, to counteract vertical compression during rendering. SC4's orthographic projection squishes things badly otherwise. All our planes use vertical scale-up, the 757's tail is cartoonish in the viewports.

Gmax screenies don't do my textures justice... shader & output map settings don't show at all  &mmm
Above shot is just the raw colors of the materials' Diffuse Map. It's unusual for my viewports to even look this nice, so I thought I'd post it.

Here's the real deal -- a brand-new A321 render

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg172.imageshack.us%2Fimg172%2F7155%2Fnewa320us.jpg&hash=3e0825c41e020e5b00c1831952797ccb085ee571)

Everything here looks really great. For your A320 family of jets, could you do the A320-200 owned by Air New Zealand, It is like the one which crashed into the Mediterranean, off France, Last year.

Sorry to go on but could you also do the Air New Zealand 787-9, for which it is the launch customer.

Thanks for all the work you have put into everything so far, its great!

Ace hasn't been heard yet this year, so far... of course we hope he'll return and finish the excellent work begun in that pic.

The covered bag carts are something I'll do for the big widebodies coming up, along with catering.

Speaking of widebodies, yes the first 787-9 (passenger) will go to Air New Zealand, one of its launch customers. The 787 is two places back in the production line though...

The A320 is coming along, I'm wrapping up the rendering for the first five. Pics this week  :)

Updated Aeromexico 737...
Sorry everyone, that's my internal development version, meant for the upcoming Menu Management Lots (which use rewards activated by a script). The regular-version SC4LOT is attached, just delete the original file and replace.

Anyone downloading ACB-VLT Series 2 after tonight, 4 May 2009, won't need this fix... I'm updating the installer package right now.

========================================

joelyboy, the 747 is the last pack coming out (hopefully in August, on its 2-year anniversary)

The 757 is indeed next after the A320 Family.

Thanks cogeo! We do have the IAE engine available, but the airline list (at least for the first batch) was set some time ago. After the 747 release, probably in August, I'll take requests for any type in the AC fleet. Until then, I have to limit the pack size, to achieve the release dates we want.

PLT - going fast, now 13 done ;)

August. Ah. I was so built up with anticipation. Will it be put into one of the prop packs, before then, as you have done with some other planes?

Thanks jack, PLT, Igor, joelyboy. Overall, I still prefer the gray United myself, but the new paint is better from a ground-level perspective.

Next task is preparing the Lots, including revised loaders (different cargo deck height). Release hopefully in 2 weeks, still all the lots, icons, readme, and installer to go.

After this, I'll be taking the 747 next, to make the anniversary date (only 6 weeks away). It's not just more airlines, there's tons of new modelling -- service vehicles, cargo compartments & more. The midsize heavy jets will follow, in a combined pack sometime around September/October.

I don't want to be gushing, but these are wonderful once again.

I never did hear back regarding your intention/or not to make an Air New Zealand A320. I can (probably) make the livery textures if you wanted.

You are planning, then, to use beltloaders for these planes? Over at the SCAG, we have had, done as a collaboration between myself, RustyXL and Cameron1991, some LD3 unit load devices(Cameron) as well as some dollies(Rusty) and loaders (me) for these. Cameron tells me that jets from the A320 in size and up (excluding B737) can use these to load passengers' luggage as well as other freight. Not all airlines do this, but it is something to think about.

@Voltaire: This looks fantastic! Can't wait to use the Airbuses in my airports.

Btw, on Voltaire's latest picture, I notice a retro Lufthansa livery on a B-707. I also notice that the gate where it's parked looks a little different than the others.

Is this because the aircraft is an automata replacer, and appears now and then at the gates (eg. such as the WestJet Avro automata)?
Or is it because the lot with the retro livery is a part of an earlier release? In this case, wich one..?

Post by: Voltaire on June 15, 2009, 12:12:04 AM
Thanks jack, xiahouDun (- funny sig, btw)...  to clarify, the 747 is for late July, followed by the 757 & 787 medium jets in September or October.

Thanks heitomat, and you're correct - the 707 is an automata replacer, positioned just right to appear connected. The jetway Lot is from the first set of ace's terminals, ACE Modular Airports. That Lufthansa is a private release from awhile back, the same mesh is used in the Braniff 5-pack.

Joel, Allan - I've test-rendered aircraft in HD, honestly it didn't impress me. Not worth tripling the filesize for improvimg just one zoom level... plus, it looks unnatural with dozens of non-HD buildings, vehicles, and lo-res animations near the aircraft.

Regarding all requests, I'm not taking any even for current planes... this is to enable keeping up the pace, to finish everything on schedule. At separate times, I've mentioned doing both airstair versions and airline requests, after the main sets are complete. At this time, it looks like November would be the earliest for that.

So, thats a "no" then?

I respect and understand your decision, but I would like to then ask politely if you could pretty please do it afterwards. It is one of the most common aircraft in the Air New Zealand fleet. If possible I would also like to see a JetStar A320-200 (the same variant as the Air New Zealand). I will make the textures for both, If you would prefer.

I am also excitedly anticipating those variants with no jetway/airstairs. I have been modeling (today) some stairtrucks for tabi's planes which I hope to use with them someday....

EDIT: Do you have a published list of all your intended liveries?

Would you be able to do for me a Virgin Blue 737-800 with no jetway, please. I am working on overlays for gates at airports with turning circles, rather than push-backs, as well as Airstairs. I want to see how it looks, and get everything to scale. You have said you intend doing models with stairs, but if you render with tight LODs (do you already?) you can get away with placing things next to each other without the under/over bug such as with tabi's planes and your jetways. Thus, it minimizes work for you (you don't have to merge every stair model into every plane scene) and increases flexibility for the user (anyone can make stairs to work with the plane). I presume you intend doing these just as props (no lots).

Would that be a no on releasing me the blank texture sheet so I can make Jetstar and Air New Zealand A320s then? If you want me to stop asking things, please say so.

You are driving at making a regional hub, featuring your local airlines in customized configurations. I can appreciate that, and I imagine quite a few people are thinking along the same lines. I want to enable that to happen, but I won't commit to requests now. Please do make them when the time comes. I don't want this thread to become bogged down, 4 months in advance. This isn't "no," just "wait 'til later".

For your ground markings, do the design work using the real aircraft's wheelbase and turning radius. It works without any trial-and-error in LE. Using 8px. per meter in ground textures, they will match up beautifully with the props later on. This document (http://www.boeing.com/commercial/airports/acaps/737sec4.pdf)'s figure 4.3.3 (columns X and R3), is the ultimate source.

This is true, and it does have the advantage of convenience to lotters. I prefer airstairs rendered with the plane, allowing natural shadows cast onto the fuselage. During the request period, it can be specified either way.

Specific project plans, materials, and models don't leave the AC team. This is the primary way we maintain creative control, continuity, and quality. Plus it's great to give people a (http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/8020/eegg.jpg) surprise every now and then.

City, you need to look here (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=3271.0) to check our aircraft, and search the STEX for airport, terminal, etc. to find terminals.

Thanks PLT! I'm back and BATing again after some much-needed time off... and a weeklong diversion to FS9 modding :)

Thanks to Jack Bauer, iamgoingtoeatyou, Jayster, allan, Jack_wilds, and joel for your comments, glad I could make your day Jack.

I've checked over my ImageShack account and it seems 98% restored; pretty decent especially for a free host. The best part of the catalog seemed unaffected, I've only reuploaded a dozen.

There were many well-designed paint schemes in this pack. Finnair's tail and overall look is very cool, it's now one of my favorites. Still undecided on the new Air France, though.

A word about release timing: there's many projects happening at once here, and the previously-announced schedule makes no sense any longer. The 747 set will likely be end of September, with the remaining types filling the rest of the year. I will keep the idea of the request thread for when they're complete. But the timeframe for that is rapidly slipping towards next year, because experience shows each pack takes 2-3 months to complete.

Don't get too excited just yet.

Quote from: VoltaireA word about release timing: there's many projects happening at once here, and the previously-announced schedule makes no sense any longer. The 747 set will likely be end of September, with the remaining types filling the rest of the year. I will keep the idea of the request thread for when they're complete. But the timeframe for that is rapidly slipping towards next year, because experience shows each pack takes 2-3 months to complete.

We're still busy preparing the pack, we won't make the end of September.
However, I can tell you were working on it as fast as possible!
That's why we don't do release dates, it will be done when it's done, not earlier.

We have a few new liveries in the pipeline on the 747...but I'm not sure exactly what Voltaire is considering for additional schemes.

I will pass your requests for Air France, El Al, and Korean Air to him.

We do have several other aircraft to get underway...so again, not sure if Voltaire wants to extend the 747-400 series.

Thank you so much for the interest Jack! Keep your eyes on us, we are gonna have a release coming soon.

small update

The 747 set is moving forward again; the upgrades I wanted took much longer than anticipated. Recently, I've been concentrating on equipment items (like the tug), because they'll be useful in multiple upcoming aircraft sets.

There are still several unannounced additions to the 744 fleet, they'll be ready to show in a few weeks.

New Supertug will be used in the 744 and 787 series:

Welcome to the AC Team board! Glad you like the BA 747-4 One World. If you haven't downloaded it yet, the Airbus A320 pack has a BA A321...and it looks great...and will compliment the BA 747-4 once it is released!

Think, you could start making your own version of London Heathrow!

Keep your eyes peeled, we have more coming once they are ready.

Thanks!

New Aircraft

It's been very quiet in here lately, be assured great progress is being made. The 747 pack this time around is not going to be more of the same planes we made in 2007. We are doing new things with the aircraft and the Lots, and I needed time to get everything modeled and planned for production. Many AC members are working together on this one, not just me -- it's a big change from how we've done things before.

Some of you may be aware, that Boeing has completed assembly of the first real 747-8F. I've been working for several months now on building it for SimCity, and I'd say it's coming along nicely  :)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg36.imageshack.us%2Fimg36%2F9652%2F748fmodelnopaint.th.jpg&hash=77976f90f78ef605e1dff55f21ae7ca1591e114d) (http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/9652/748fmodelnopaint.jpg)

The -8 is signifcantly different than the 747-400, from a modelling perspective: new wings, windows, engines, cargo doors, plus the existing -4F doors. The whole pack features the latest revisions in lighting - many improvements in the -8F have been copied into the 747-400 as well.

More announcements coming as we begin the production Lots.

Great job there!
Now could I make a small request?
A request for my national carrier. Just the smaller planes. CRJ's, A320's and 737's =)

Here are some pictures, I don't know what the process is, but if you would be kind enough to do it and if there is no difference with either you put one livery on the boeing's and the other on the other two, then boeing has this livery:
http://www.avsim.com/slovenia/slo_v_fs/files/ACFT2K4/IMAGES/B737-528_URGAS.jpg (http://www.avsim.com/slovenia/slo_v_fs/files/ACFT2K4/IMAGES/B737-528_URGAS.jpg) (please make that the 737-900)

and the other two have roughly the same:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3196/3024356173_6e2e247439.jpg (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3196/3024356173_6e2e247439.jpg)    for the A320 and 319

http://www.avsim.com/slovenia/slo_v_fs/files/ACFT2K2/IMAGES/CRJ_AAF%20gmax%202k2.jpg (http://www.avsim.com/slovenia/slo_v_fs/files/ACFT2K2/IMAGES/CRJ_AAF%20gmax%202k2.jpg)   for the CRJ

As said before, if you simply stick it on, then it would be delightful if these can be real, but if there is even a ici bici tiny little difference, than just make them all like the A320 and the CRJ.

I would be very grateful if you could do this for me, but if you don't have time, then i fully understand. Have a nice day folks!

Hello Strucka,

Thank you for your interest in the AC Team! We always love hearing from our fans and fellow aviation enthusiasts.

The 737 and A320 projects have already launched so the liveries that have been released are the ones that have been made, I don't know if there is going to be a second livery pack on the 737s and A320s, but I will pass your request on.

We are currently moving forward with new Aircraft Types to expand the varying types of aircraft offered and for in play with SC4. These include the Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental and 787 Dreamliner as well as more.

If any new liveries were to be made for the 737 and A320s, the team would make them from scratch, as there is a copyright conflict with Flight Simulator liveries and their own creators.

I can't make an ultimate decision about your livery request, but again I will pass it along to the entire team and to Voltaire to review.

Again, thank you for your interests in the AC Team and keep checking back here, we will have some great new packs coming down the line.

Sincerely,
RG59061

The lower hold doors are finished now as well... the small bulk compartment door folds inwards, so only the opening is visible. Panel lines here are darker than usual, because this is my test setup. Nightlights are next, and the ground equipment after that.

Thanks, Gilikov!

strucka, Requests are going to have to wait until current projects are done. There is a huge backlog of aircraft BATing and Lotting to accomplish, and I'm currently projecting completion of everything around April-May 2010.

Stay tuned... this should progress more rapidly now, because the catering truck and pallet loader are complete too  :)

Mega Update - 747 Project

To wrap up the year, I'd like to show the great progress happening in the 747 arena. For the last six months, 3D-modelling was split into three branches -- the new 747-8, modifying the 747-400, and new ground equipment. Now these development branches are converging, with great results so far, and much more to come.

To say it's been a struggle is an understatement -- the 747 model changelog is two pages long and still growing.  Preliminary in-game testing of six alpha versions showed flaws in the LODs, lighting anomalies, and a few dumb errors... must un-hide wings before rendering  :P

Many dozens of improvements, whether designed or discovered by chance, have finally been distributed across the entire series... which means it's finally time for photos  ;D
I don't usually post the full-scale images, but it seems appropriate given these are the first photos of what you'll actually get in the downloads.

The first complete livery for the 747-8, Emirates SkyCargo

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg691.imageshack.us%2Fimg691%2F3052%2F748pub1.jpg&hash=1fe6d943c8732e3d03b851be4cfcf5b77b3b2629)

New 747-400, El Al Israel Airlines

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg69.imageshack.us%2Fimg69%2F6607%2Fnew747ly.jpg&hash=411e700114260d964e5ca9690ffdb2a91e89b9f9)

When making the catalog earlier this year, I was reminded how I was never really satisfied with the United white livery... too much contrast, not enough detail. A quick trial run (old textures, current model) turned out much better, so I decided that it deserved a full rebuild.

A little work on the tail and main logo, and it looks a new plane  ;)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg51.imageshack.us%2Fimg51%2F7017%2Fnew747uan2.jpg&hash=acab7d1e778e2fca9fadeddc78895a480cfe5540)

And, some news on the release lineup. The 747 set will be split in two releases, the first has nine passenger airlines, followed by a separate Freighter package. The second release will feature more than just the 748F -- also the 787, and the passenger-to-cargo conversion 747-400BCF.

A closer look at the loader for ShadeSlayer

Cameron - yes, a Lufthansa passenger version is definitely in the works -- and I'll be delighted to make more, if new orders are placed

Thanks strucka and Pete3D!

From myself and the AC Team,

Have a Safe and Happy New Year!

First Complete 747-8

The first finished ACAircraft 747-8 is a passenger version, for launch customer Lufthansa  ;D

A little background - in the real world the first 747-8 (freighter version) is just completing construction, and will fly for the first time very soon. The passenger type represented here, will begin assembly sometime in 2011.

Visible differences vs the 747-400 include: larger windows, stretched upper deck, longer wings, larger engines, new wing-body fairing (hardest part!), and new landing gear.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg52.imageshack.us%2Fimg52%2F3895%2Fnew747lh8.jpg&hash=92e04704e940dc9c1051728ce367095fe3041b4e)

The newest 747-400 addition, Delta Air Lines (ex Northwest)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg121.imageshack.us%2Fimg121%2F8016%2Fnew747dl4.jpg&hash=309c0fc66b18d9256c4159240f8116b3346466c4)

================

Thanks Girafe, Gilikov, ShadeSlayer, manchou

Jack Bauer, Air France is not in the passenger package now, but I will be doing a request session this summer, stay tuned. I may re-release the Cargo version to reflect their new livery, but that's not decided yet.

Jdog, AirTran Airways does not fly the 747 -- they have only 717 (MD-95) and 737 planes.

nekseb, yes each plane will be available in multiple styles this time -- with and without jetways, and some airlines will have the supertug attached too.

Adrian, I've tried some HD renders... my conclusion is that the current HD process is unsuitable for large objects.  The problem can be seen in this 757 comparison:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg196.imageshack.us%2Fimg196%2F466%2Ffe757sidebyside.jpg&hash=3d4858ef137287776cd93601906a05e5c5f75d20)

The HD prop's zoom-5 looks worse than the normal version, especially the tail. Yes, the zoom-6 becomes outstanding (http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/3010/e9757hd.jpg) but at the cost of zoom-5, I don't think it's worth it. Fixing the issue requires EA granting access to the EXE source code, which will likely never happen.

However, if a better HD method comes along that makes zoom-5 and zoom-6 look great, I'll be happy to switch over.

===============

With multiple versions of each plane, comes a lot of extra rendering time, so I actually got another computer up and running to double the pace. This project should now be on track to begin Lotting in a couple weeks.

next up: Korean Air -- they have recently ordered the 747-8 passenger version  ;D

747 Passenger Set Modelling Complete

Korean Air is the second customer for the passenger 747-8  :)

Three new 747-400's this month... South African is a new airline for us, and United's gray livery is a favorite of mine. Ace suggested it, while we were making the first set in 2007. Back then, I could never get the gray to turn out right -- if you're still watching, ace - hope you like it!  Last, the standard British Airways livery is going in the pack, for those who may plop a few BA 747's together (they only have one alliance logojet).

This marks the completion of the main aircraft props - but the show isn't over yet. Wait until you see what we're doing with the rest of the lot  ;)

===================================

Thanks cameron and jpj_starfleet!

The aft bulk compartment is a useful thing, commonly still used because:
- actual freight in containers may be taking a lot of space in the front and middle cargo holds
- putting weight in the back can help quite a bit when considering weight & balance issues.

oktoberfest, there is no schedule here, even I don't know yet.

Wow, Voltaire!

Fantastic work, all around... Though I do have a particular liking for the South African Air, Air New Zealand and the Qantas liveries. That ground equipment looks good, it adds to the airport scene greatly.

Thank you for answering my HD question, I do see where you're coming from, and it's your decision in the end. They'll look great at any zoom, I'm sure.

Great work, again...

Thank you I_love_lamp for your kind words and posting here.

Voltaire is still working very hard on lotting and final rendering of the models for these 747s. As a result, we have no real release date to give just yet. We as the AC Team strive to produce the highest quality offerings for you, the SC4 Fan.

It will be some time before these are released, as we want them to be perfect...as a result, there will be a wait so please be patient and continue to follow the progress right here. As you can see...the wait is certainly going to be worth it! I myself...even as a team member can't wait!

Thank you again for your kind words I_love_lamp.

Very cool!  I like big birds!

Another 747 that could be made is a version with a full double deck, similar to the Airbus A380.

That certainly is an interesting idea. I am thinking though that for a Double Decker, you may have to wait until the SCAG opts to make the A380 as a prop for SC4.

Voltaire and the rest of the AC Team are wanting to make the most realistic planes flying today, and given the amount of time he's spent on the current 747 packs, it would be a long time if he decided to revamp the model again.

Still, awesome idea and love the enthusiasm! Thanks for following!

Anyways, nice work Voltaire. I like the Korean Air, and its good to see Air New Zealand and Qantas again.

The A380 is one of those planes that the AC Team had to debate about building...when it came down to it, we had a few more Boeing fans and Voltaire felt more strongly with the 787 Dreamliner. Now, that is not to say he may not decide to render the A380 as well...but given the 747-8 Intercontinental and second 747 packs we are working on, the A380 would come later down the road.

Perhaps a joint project between the AC Team and SCAG on the A380 might be in the cards?

Everyone's jumping the gun with regards to new projects; let me just say, I'm not planning on BATing any new type of aircraft this year. I must turn to helping Gwail and Pat with the pavement sets. Realistically, that will occupy us for the rest of 2010.

Haljackey, that looks like the NLA -- it was Boeing's proposal for a true A380 competitor about 10 years ago. As RG59061 points out, I much prefer real planes - much easier to find drawings and plans  ;)

Thanks jpj_starfleet, Giel, Gilikov, and une_ame -- those reflections from the light rig are something special, that can only happen on a 747 due to the upper deck blending down into the main fuselage.

Jack Bauer - thanks, but no more liveries are planned, it's been a year already to make these  :P

I don't recall ever posting previews of the 'extra' planes in this pack. Each airline will come with two extra versions - the first has no ground equipment or jetway, just the plane by itself. The second extra version features a supertug towing the aircraft:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm9.staticflickr.com%2F8312%2F8035389634_c3c5acdd01_z.jpg&hash=7561a308f2118b07dd07e0209d18238e183f8816)

People have been asking for this for over 3 years, and they're finally done!

Now, we are just starting the lotting process and it's not a simple job. This will be the largest assortment of props that we'll ever work with... even more than the prefab airports.

As RG59061 said, it will be worth the wait

Well, a Joint SCAG-AC project is an interesting proposal, but I don't think it would work. Though we both want to make the same things, the differences in the way we want to do it are too great at the moment. The most obvious one to me at the moment is the HD issue.

I certainly see why you'd choose the 787 over the A380. SCAG has more Boeing fans as well. I'd have made a Boeing aircraft, but they were all taken! The only one not BATted yet is the 707 (And, I suppose the 717 but that kinda comes under PD's MD-80). I might choose to do the A380 myself, but the number of other planes I've decided to do already means its a fair way down the track (I've got the Turboprops as well as all the current Airbus widebodies to finish). I seem to have a little more time free than Voltaire, but its never enough!

Good luck for the finish of the project.

Looking good!

Regarding my request, that's fine if you don't want to do it.  I just thought it would be easier to make because the height of the 747 fuselage would be the same for the entire length of the aircraft, making it a quick job for you guys.

Although the 747-8 is a good compromise of this design, and you've been doing a fantastic job modeling it!  Nice work!

Looks Great Voltaire! You've put a lot of time and even more of your effort into revamping the 747 model and building up the 747-8 Intercontinental.

You should be very pleased at your work! I can't wait to see these lovely beauties parked at the gates of my International Terminal in SC4. As someone has kindly said...with all the parts this team is adding through sites like SC4D...SC4 will never die!

To all regarding questions or comments about the delay in updates of the 747-400 and 747-8 packs, when it came to making the second 747-400 pack and the 747-8I, Voltaire went back and basically re-made the entire 747 model to correct some concerns with the original release. The 747-8I was made from the ground up based on plans and schematics released by Boeing. That explains the length of time necessary to make sure the models were absolutely perfect before they go to rendering and lotting. Plus, he made two versions...the 747-8I Passenger and the 747-8F Freighter variant. Believe me, there was so much more involved in making the 747-8s than just tweaking the original 747-400 model.

Haljackey, it is possible that Voltaire could do something like that, but given his commitment to such high quality standards, a thing Toyota has forgotten over time. If Voltaire was to make the 747 "Double Decker" concept that Boeing previewed a decade ago, which your Flight Sim pic is based on, he would render an entirely new model to start from. Voltaire is not one to cut corners, I've worked with him and the AC Team long enough to know that. But the results of every pack are better off because of it. The 737 and A320 packs speak to that detail and quality, as well as the forthcoming 747-400 and 747-8 releases.

There is so much more coming down the pipeline this year with the Airport Roads Project that is being finalized as we speak, and many other Aircraft types to come. This years product schedule is already full up.

Keep following us everyone, we will be updating this blog again once we have some news to post about our forthcoming projects. Voltaire always has something he is working on.

On behalf of the team, thank you very much for the kind word and for following us!

Voltaire is steadily working on getting the 747-8s lotted and once we have them done lotted, they are going to go in for testing and certification. Hopefully without the delays that have plagued the 787 an A380 over the last few years.

As for the Delta and Qantas liveries that you mentioned i_love_lamp, I believe that we are actually releasing a Qantas and Delta 747-400 in the second 747-400 pack. They won't be appearing on the 747-8 as neither airline has ordered the plane.

Thanks again to everyone who is out there, following on our work and posting here! We all really appreciate it and it keeps the team motivated and going.

The Airport Roads Project is almost completed, we are just finalizing a few details with SCAG and once that is done, we'll have it released.

Thanks gang!

Excellent job here, but I feel the need to repeat an older recommendation (I won't say "request"): have you considered employing a modeller to make aircraft automata, instead of props?

Also does anybody know if it is possible to add (create new) aircraft automata instead of replacing an existing one?

That would be very nice, if we had some more variations in our sky's.

If there would also a solution to make the way longer the airplanes needs to start and land at the runway...

On a related note, I'd like to request that at least one of the supertugs be available alone as a prop. They're really cool, and it would be neat to have them around the airport. Please consider doing this (or just sending the prop my way, even the version from the released 747s if you happen to have one lying around  :) ) if at all possible.

And of course, amazing work on the planes. The AC's releases made the airports my favorite part of the game by far.

True, but the hangars are currently designed to swallow the AC Team 747 (already released) including the jetway, so its not necessary to wait for the sans-jetway models to come out :)

People have been asking for more 747-8 airlines... keep in mind (as RG59061 has said) I only choose from the real-world operators of each aircraft type. Boeing has not recieved many orders for 747-8 passenger models. Remember the strength of the 747-8 order book is Cargo.

Thanks thepokemaniac, cogeo, koekie, fafalone

Koekie, I'm not ready to show the lots with extra models yet (because we're still building them) but the idea of extra aircraft versions was:
- more variety in the overall look of the gates (but not making true remote stands, like the google maps link)
- people could easily build custom lots... for example the tug/aircraft prop on a taxiway, for a Mayor Diary airport photo.

cogeo, I haven't considered revisiting automata lately. However I have wondered before if our BAT models could be readily converted to automata, or we would need to start from scratch. I suspect that since each scene contains 20,000 - 70,000 polys, the BAT models would have to be drastically simplified.

I don't know that anyone has created a totally new aircraft automata from scratch... though it may be possible, since new car automata have been done.

nekseb, the aircraft takeoff/landing effect is stored in the effectdir, which (if I remember correctly) is a relatively difficult thing to modify. I'd agree that takeoff runs should be more than 8 tiles  $%Grinno$%

Currently I'm in the final prep stages of the lotting process. I've been saying that for awhile, but until last month I had no clear idea of the massive prop library we need. The new ground equipment comes in many varieties, customized for each airline... plus several airlines have more than one cargo container style.

The ground equipment you've seen (and more not shown yet) will be distributed as standalone props, including the supertugs.

Pics soon... I'm going to get a few final-build lots started this week.

But there is one thing, maybe I get you wrong, but I still ask: Will the jet bridges be attached to the plane-props? Because I'm using since a week the Lot-tool and it was a sort of unpleasant surprise that the props were attached to the jet bridges in the old package.

But still, you're making wonderful work and I'm looking forward to it!  ;D

Title: Re: AC Aircraft
Post by: cogeo on May 08, 2010, 06:19:42 AM
BAT models are really hard to be converted to automata models, if at all. There's no "exporting" and LODs, you actually have to make the (real) final ingame model (3D object) yourself. And I doubt if gmax can do this, though I think that 3dsmax (w/o BAT) can. There are more special programs for this, like Milkshape.

A friend sent me a 380 model, and I was wondering if it would be possible to reskin it and have it flying in the sky. It would be nice, I think.

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough, I meant if it is possible to add new automata exemplars (instead of replacing/overriding), and have the game using them as normal aircraft automata, together with the ingame ones (ie extending the automata set). The game does contain models like the 767, 777, Avro, etc, then why not reskin them with real liveries?

Well, I can answer this one:

There will be three versions. A version with a jetway attached, a version without a jetway attached (and a supertug instead), and a straight plane without anything else.

Gilikov, there are 11 aircraft in this set, you can see them in the Catalog thread: look for the "v3.8 pre-release" headings in the 747 row.

cogeo, the tricky thing with extending the automata set is that the effectdir must be modded. Not even the code gurus in the BSC have created a tool for modding the effectdir yet... leaving no possibility of a new automata flying around, or even fading in/out at the gate.

Re-skinning is another matter, it has been done several times. You can override just an existing texture (Lufthansa RJ85), or replace the s3d and textures wholesale (Braniff 707). Your A380 could replace the 767 for example... if you like, I can show you how.

I've been doing some work on the lots, just mock-ups to get a feel for how things look. Some of the lots will be full of vehicles, others rather empty. I started this variety of looks with the prefabs -- the goal is to bring more a more natural look to the terminal.

Of the five lot styles, type 2 is the most active-looking (and closest to our previous planes). This type 2 mock-up, with the Lufthansa 748, includes most of the new ground equipment:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm9.staticflickr.com%2F8031%2F8035384874_be77f5b958_b.jpg&hash=90b5e6da02324bdd1e85f732af9da4f229195d61)

You can see here, where a lot of my efforts last year were spent: retuning the new nightlight setup to look consistent with the original set.

I expect to have real lots to show soon, because production of the prop library is underway now.

We can made the new istances of the same automata type, after all. That way you can have many aircrafts / liveries at once - the game will pick randomly an instance from the range every time.

Unfortunately the usual prop family/random prop doesn't function as intended, when it comes to automata: the game won't retain multiple instances of the same s3d in memory. For example, if all four DC7 airlines are in my plugins, United will be the only one that shows. It's the last one (sorted alphabetically)... the other three will load, but be discarded  &mmm

Giving each texture a unique s3d model -- bypassing the duplicate model IID's -- and then building a prop family, runs smack into the effectdir issues.

Now, if there's a way to force one s3d model to choose from multiple texture sets... That would be quite useful  :)

Thanks mauricio and Jack -- since the 747-8i begins assembly and testing next year, we won't be waiting too long to see this giant bird flying for real  :)

Well, I've had to refresh my way to make the automata first :).

Keep the Type and Group same of each file (exemplar, s3d, fsh), assign the unique Instance and you will have randomly picked vehicles of given type. Of course, each automata needs to have its own files pack (exemplar + s3d + textures).

Voltaire want to ask you something about your work on the AC functional airports. I'm really fascinated by what you did and it is interesting that my plans to continue with a new stage of airports. It would be great if there is an airport with 2 or 3 runways and a capacity of over 2 million.

Post by: Voltaire on December 14, 2010, 06:12:22 PM
Thanks Ivaylo, I didn't know anyone had used all the capacity of the largest airport! How many Sims are in your city that maxed out the international hub?

It's certainly possible to make a Stage 10 airport... there are some issues to overcome regarding 'stacking' multiple runway lots side-by-side, but it's certainly do-able.

As far as a time frame to make these things, I honestly can't say... in 2008, it took me most of a month to design and produce each stage. To make the airport look "larger" than the stage 9 lot, I would need to put my largest planes at the gates (Boeing 747-8), and I'm still working to finish them ;)

So
Extremely thank you for the inverted attention on my problems. So we build the region is 11 million but my biggest city is 4 million I've built half size
My idea is possible that 10 stage has the largest aircraft including A380 and Boeing 747.
But really the most important thing for me is to have at least 2 runway. Could be parallel and also to have both sides of the terminals. As far as capacity problems I can regulate it and himself with SC4 Tool

=====================================

Ivaylo, the translation is not working correctly, so I'm guessing a little what you wanted to say.

The stage 10 prefabricated airport is planned, but no work has been done yet. The idea is good, and I can see how to make the multiple runways. However, the problem is that complicated projects are already taking all my time. When these projects are complete, then there will be time to make the Stage 10 airport.

pepsibottle, I've recently been thinking of doing a retro-themed aircraft package, based around the first-generation Douglas jets. The planes (and liveries) of that era had far more personality than we see today, and I think it would be fun to work on.

I can't wait for to see the planes into the game. The picture with both BA's 747 looks like to a normal a London Heathrow T5. I would have wanted to see among those planes the AF's 747 is in its new livery.

Nice...

How is it with more types of planes?
like:
Airbus:
A340
A330
A310
Boeing:
757
767
777
787
MD-11.

And all with gates, cause the lottet props from tabi have texture-bugs on the Gate...so may....

Enjoy!

====================================

Time to write a little about the direction this project will take in 2011.

First of all, I'm going to take a break for a couple of weeks... during that time, please think about what you would like to see. I no longer plan to release large packs based around a single aircraft type.

Instead, they will be done on request, in small batches of 3 - 5. The first round of nominations will run from 10 January to 30 January. There will be a form to fill out, listing all the options available. Aircraft will be done in order of first request, so get yours in early!

Reminder: This is not the place to post requests. When I find requests in this thread from now on, they will be edited without notice.

After the requests are done I'll decide where to head next. As mentioned on the last page, I'm interested in the early Douglas narrowbodies like the DC-8 and DC-9... plus the 747-8 and 757 Freighters.

I wish you health, happiness and love
Thanks for what you do for us and already downloaded your last 3 projects. I helped you with ideas forward if you need my opinion. I will participate in the survey with you and whatever else I can be useful. Also please do not forget what they've been asked last year.

Hey guys, thank you to the whole AC team for your awesome planes.

A have a request, if this is the right place for it.
The airbus A-319 with the Frontier livery is of concern. As you know, no two Frontier planes are alike so I was wondering if the Frontier lot could be made into a random lot with all the same planes except that the animal on the tail is different. For example, you could plop the Frontier lot and get either a lynx, bear, dolphin, etc.

Just my two cents, sorry if this is the wrong place.

24 July 2011

First new aircraft mesh in 3 years  ;D

I've been fiddling with this for about a month, trying to get it good enough for production... and now I've got most of the problems ironed out.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm9.staticflickr.com%2F8033%2F8035098844_5ed14c2c52_z.jpg&hash=062a2457e84187e316e13e28bff0fe579f7efa5c)

A couple of years ago, I thought I'd give this a pass because in all the photos, it looked un-graceful and oddly-proportioned. Lately I've seen some excellent photographs that changed my mind. And the SC4 orthogonal viewing style seems to help as well.

The main issue with the A380 is the sheer size of the thing. It's as large as a major-league stadium, and it'll need a 6x6 lot. I've had to customize the light rig's shadow maps, to counteract most of the oddly-placed shadows; the rest will be taken care of by rendering at an angle -- so along with double-deck jetbridges, there will be an entirely new look for the gate itself. Plus, all the GSE will be re-rendered at fractional angles.

There is no need to worry over liveries, since there are few enough airlines with this jet I'll just make all of them  ;)

One more new thing (released already, in the 2nd round of requests):

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm9.staticflickr.com%2F8170%2F8035123862_16792b8cdb.jpg&hash=c782df8c8c4fe78b67c5031a2617cd20b6b8581c)

==============

Thanks exla, yes the lot could be made that way, but here's the thing: there's a lot of Frontier tails!  Although I agree it's odd to see the same tail when plopping multiple Frontier gates... the time issue makes it a non-starter. I'd have to set everything else aside for a year to get all of them, because I don't make textures via cut-and-paste from photos. I make everything from scratch... Sarge took me 2 weeks to get right, back in 2008.

When the request thread (in the main AC Team room) reopens, please put in a request for another Frontier tail. The rules are that everyone gets one plane only, though. I'll reopen it soon because I've run through a good portion of the requests already.

Very nice! I can't wait for this to be finished and released! (even if that is a long way from now)

Just one thing, wouldn't it be easier to make this on a 7x7 lot, so you can still use the same overlay textures that you do for the other widebody aircraft available, because wouldn't a 6x6 lot mean that many of the overlay textures available couldn't be used? (due to the way that the textures are positioned on each tile) I could post a picture to show you what I mean if you don't understand.

This decision has lighted up my day. I can't wait to see the A380 into the game, the double decks too. The model is perfect. It just lacks the winglets. I am looking to seeing new pictures.

Incredible idea, which I welcome and support.  However  to say that  it has long A380 in Sim City thanks Tabi who made a few props. But Voltaire's idea is good and I would really  love to  add his work to my plugins. What is the biggest  shortage  of props Tabi is that they are  stuck  with sleeves to the aircraft. I sincerely hope Voltaire to make a model of the A380 which you can set and taxiway and runway.
If it is not too presumptuous on my part I would like to see someone even lower plane of the Bulgarian airline - "Air Bulgaria".
Thanks in advance and wish success to that of Voltaire which has been attempted.

Regards,
Ivo

The first A380 is named in memory of Adroman, a talented modder on the SCAG team who was a friend to many people on this site.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm9.staticflickr.com%2F8461%2F8035131019_eca96b41d1_b.jpg&hash=0f876839000ec2619ea7cb4db28817a7d2989f0c)

Production-wise the model is 70% done, you can see here the incomplete engine pylon. Various details on the wings, winglets and flap extenders, will be finished this week. Then it's time for nightlighting.

Thanks Exla, Jack Bauer, ivo_su, and apeguy. This project is going fairly quick considering all the new thing I'm trying out. I'm thinking of placing one A380 into each request release... rather than wating until the whole set is done. That will put the Qantas jet in the August request package.

Ivo_su, the format is the same as the last 747 set: all A380 props will be made both with and without jetways.

I only make real-life liveries on the aircraft. Six airlines operate this plane so far: Qantas, Singapore, Korean, Air France, Lufthansa, and Emirates.

apeguy, that's true when considering othogonal lot markings but these will be on a 30-degree angle. I still have a (mostly) undamaged copy of the widebody gate template, so the overlay textures will be one of the quicker tasks in the lotting process.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That is my limit on airline requests inside this thread, from this point on it'll be edited.

What ? an A380 in August ? That's such a great news. Above all it will be a Qantas, my favorite one. They are so beautiful.

That's so good from you to name it to the name of one your friend.

Just for the information, add china Southern Airlines to the A380 operators. They are about to receive they first A380 this month. There is no picture of it completely painted but I'm pretty sure this will come very soon.

This here is most likely China Southern (http://www.cardatabase.net/modifiedairlinerphotos/photos/big/00006372.jpg) Jack. Quite a simple livery, then again, every China Southern is like that.

Thanks a lot. On Airliners there is no picture so far but there are now a few pictures on other websites taken by  spotters.

Here an another one. China Southern color scheme is colorful and pretty cool. It's just a matter of time to see it into the game.

Daytime model and first livery are complete :)

Basic nightlights are complete as well, except for nav lights. Those will be finished and customized for the Qantas livery this week, along with the triple jetway.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm9.staticflickr.com%2F8318%2F8035257018_f00afa2fae_b.jpg&hash=871beb60bf121f676f318590ac3f7df82ccc3ced)

Thanks Girafe, KoV Liberty, and Jack Bauer... just a small gesture that I hope won't be repeated anytime soon.

Thanks all for the heads-up on China Southern, it's now in the queue. This livery's combination of cheatlines and Optima typeface is very 1990s. Considering the A380's tall fuselage, I wonder why China Southern kept the cheatlines... a design element best suited to narrowbody planes.

The Aircraft Request Thread is opened when there is a new project that has been prepared, tested, and is developed to a point when the team can accommodate and work with requests from users like yourself.

As of the current moment however, we are still cleaning out and working on requests from our existing projects...as a result, the request thread will be closed out until that back log is cleared out and both Voltaire and the team is available. I apologize that we can't give a more finite estimate, but thank you for your interest.

Was that in the SCAG forum, Slimboj? I think the AC Team so far has the 737NG, which is the -600 to -900. Adroman, who has recently passed away (as you'd have seen in Voltaire's post above) was working on it, so he may have made the livery. SCAG hopes to work on the 737 'Classics' again soon.

I think I said it in a PM, Voltaire, but the A380 is looking fabulous and I know Adrian would be honoured to know that he meant so much around him and would get a smile out of seeing his name on the A380. I'm looking forward to seeing the development on this project.

2 September 2011

The current release is getting close to finished, but it's delayed due to extra modelling work. The 757 winglets, of all things, held me back this week. Last week, it was converting the A380 jetbridge to glass; the week before that the Air France main logo. Next up, the A321 will need a cabin service door and GSE installed. Then I can (finally) begin lot-making.

The aircraft completed so far for this release:

Plus, a bonus: I've held back this British Airways 757, because SCAG was going to release the same. My rule on duplicates is a 4-week post-release delay (see request thread), in this case beginning in June.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm9.staticflickr.com%2F8458%2F8035098857_3ae8f2dd1e_z.jpg&hash=e0a05d4f2d8ac4179cd3b2a4452d4930f8bac008)

Also, a new triple-finger A380 jetbridge, here in parked position. Each finger has 3 sections, and the metal sides were replaced with a glass-enclosed Warren truss.

The tentative release date for this set is 20 September, which may be moved up if the lotting work runs smoothly. An attached-jetbridge A380 scene (with cargo, catering, etc) will be underway soon. For this release, the A380 will be limited to the detached jetway scene only, to keep the schedule from slipping into October.

=======================================

Thank you maxosha, Cyclone1001, and GMT. Nice to see this project changing some minds on the A380. The model is faithful to the real thing, so I think much of the credit goes to the SC4 camera rig... high-angle quarter views bring out the best of this design.

slimboj, the only Classic (-300/-400/-500) set I know of is mikeoxlong's, over on the STEX. Here in the AC Team we've made the more recent 737 Next Generation (-600/-700/-800/-900), which LOT doesn't operate.

Thank you, Joel. I'll say it again too, he had great talent and I'll miss watching the high-quality work in his threads. From all the responses here, and the thread in Community-related, it's quite clear just how much positive impact he made to the SC4 fan community.

Those 757's look rather excellent as well.

Thanks Cyclone and ShadeSlayer... One thing I haven't mentioned, is that I'll be lotting the 757's from the prefab set, including them as 'bonus' releases like the BA jet above. So there's plenty more coming!

Thanks Xander, I normally run a registration search but forgot this time. This CASA page (http://casa-query.funnelback.com/search/search.cgi?collection=casa_aircraft_register) shows four combinations ending in SC available. QSC looks like a natural choice, being so similar in appearance to "OSC" that I won't need to re-render ;)

Only new exciting stuffs to test on SC4.

Thank you so much for the AF 747 in new livery. It meets my expectations.

I like the united 757. As I am recreating an American airport, it will be awesome to have it.

The A380 just looks breathtaking. &apls

Whats also funny is that the chopper (Robinson R22) is registered to a man that lives in Queensland, Australia.

The 3rd set of requests, plus the A380 is up on the LEX here (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2688)... enjoy!

This A321's photo wasn't done before the last post - here it is:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm9.staticflickr.com%2F8037%2F8035096276_6c84c86c2c_z.jpg&hash=d1f0816f5a3858a7d89947ae2fcf36cf4fb3d199)

There's something a little different with the A380 gates (which did end up assembled normally, not on an angle). Some extra color in the corners, and nice lead-in lines that fill in some of the huge blank area near the taxiway:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm9.staticflickr.com%2F8031%2F8035093531_e53e9de298_b.jpg&hash=a6b1309e685e324127ab550502ee5d69af4b2d15)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm9.staticflickr.com%2F8036%2F8035091810_4027506013_b.jpg&hash=67b465e4fe6eb743d321a48cbd50f1ec498bd3c5)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm9.staticflickr.com%2F8450%2F8035093427_4bbb7083a7_z.jpg&hash=ce9be9078ab113743c400a72370b7149d870e85f)

The new lead-in lines are a separate 4x3 lot, so the total gate length is 9 tiles counting from the taxiway centerline. That's the bare minimum to ensure clearance between a parked A380 and another taxiing behind it. Remember though, 747-8's are longer! So if your concourse features 747-8 gates, and A380's need to taxi behind them... build 10-tile-deep gates instead. Part of the joy of super-size aircraft ;)

Thanks Jack Bauer, apeguy (it is here!), and Mulu2065... enjoy the planes and stay tuned for more!

I'm going to try for a bonus 757 and A380 every month, in addition to filling requests. Now that the winglets and GSE have been fitted to nearly all the models, filling requests may go quickly enough to have more than 3 each time. Once the backlog is down to 10 I'll reopen the thread.

I love the new A380 but It's not really comatible with the jetway extension from the SCAG team (the one for the airport road) Would it maybe in a later release be possible to change that? I see two ways to fix it...

first: move the jetway prop more to the right of the lot.
second: make the jetway one title longer and let it overhang (like on the SCAG 777)

It would be really neat if I could keep my road as it is now

anyway... great work!

Voltaire isn't just here to make planes, like everyone else he may have RL stuff to do, which should always come before SC4. We all have no choice but to wait patiently for him to make some more planes when he has the time. I'm sure he'll finish the next request pack when he has the time. Just remember that he doesn't have to do this, he doesn't get paid for it, so really we're lucky he devotes so much of his time to making these fine aircraft for us.

I know I don't really have the right to lecture seeing as I'm not a moderator, but it's still the truth.

I don't think this is a good way to ask people out. You could have said it more gently. Real life is more important than making planes for some raging twelve years old kids like you. And even if he wants to make them.. I don't think he will get more motivation to do when seeing your post. So please, if you want to stay on this site, watch your language. Such sort of speaking is not made to be used here. Also, other members of the bloody community ? Why ? Because we apply the rules that are clearly written ? Seriously, you should calm down, take a coffee or a hot chocolate, and wait patiently for those. if voltaire do not make a sign here, it's because he's already occupied with his real life. Trust me, Voltaire is not the kind of guy to loose his motivation on a project.. when he starts something, he finish it, no matter if it has to be finished some years later.

And as always, it will be released when it is READY. So just be patient like everyone else here. patience is one of the motto of this game.

Oh, sweet, now his post are deleted. ..

art and apeguy were reacting more towards the (now deleted) post from another member... who apparently registered that day, just to write something unkind to me. So far as getting paid, well... it would be nice. But not allowed due to Maxis/EA EULA terms.

For everyone who likes these things I make: please feel free to donate to SC4D! Jeroni always needs help paying his web hosting & bandwidth fees. The LEX and forums generate a lot of web traffic, and that has to be paid for each and every month.

I've been dealing with RL for a couple of months, but it seems to be calming down (fingers crossed). So I'll be more active around here until at least January. There should be a release this month, but I'm not sure about specifics yet.

The A380 has an extended/attached/in-use jetway, and open hatches along the fuselage. For this model there will be 2 container loaders, and 3 catering/service trucks. The extensive nightlight setup required makes me cringe. But it'll get done nonetheless!

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm9.staticflickr.com%2F8033%2F8035090918_3cb3bb7276_b.jpg&hash=ac771b2647b9995cc1dd8f2a6b834021a21d71f2)

New mini-project: 747+ fleet renewal
When plopping many of the 747 jets next to an A380, the difference in quality is painfully obvious, and I need to fix that. I've learned a lot about mesh modelling, paint templates, and nightlighting since that original set over 4 years ago. So the improvements should be very noticable and worth my time (and yours).

The plan is to release an upgraded 747 with the same airline's A380. At first this will cover Singapore, Air France Cargo, Lufthansa, and Korean. After the airline pairings run out, I'll keep going in order of oldest 747 release to newest. This way, the fleet will be 100% modernized and up to current modelling spec by the middle of next year.

Oh I am so impressed  by the new A380 and the difference they have compared to Boing747.  Just in reality Boeing is so outdated and antiquated - modern aviation  needs new aircraft models and a whole new generation fleet. I  think Airbus is a step forward in this regard.

This batch has two 747+ models... refinements include new Engines and Elevators for both aircraft. The elevator leading edge was thickened and re-profiled where it meets the fuselage, and then tapered to a very thin outer edge. The effect is a much sharper-looking tail, especially in the front view.

The largest part of this upgrade program is the engines. With PIA I'm introducing an all-new engine mesh, the Rolls-Royce RB211-524C (the "C" is the important bit). The generic GE/PW pod I've used on most 747-400's was split into specific models, you can see the difference on the Singapore 744 above: New Pratt & Whitney PW4000 on the right. The 747-8's GEnx-2B has a new pod profile, including much smaller scallops/chevrons at the trailing edge.

The main aircraft props including attached equipment have just been finished. Thanks to Joel, TheRyte1, and Fayzal for your quick PM replies! The remaining GSE props, lotting and the install package will occupy me next week, with release on or about New Year's Day.

Ongoing work with the next A380 will push it to the next release package. Remaining work is the livery of course, plus the wings will be dirtied up a bit, and I'm trying something new on the tail nightlights. Once these new nightlights are working, they'll be useful on every dark-paintjob tail including the updated 747's.

So far the daytime model is nearly complete, aside from the wings. Also I've updated the jetbridge interior, because the floor looked far too bright in the South (nose-on) view. The other views look a bit darker now, but I think it's still a pleasant effect:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm9.staticflickr.com%2F8313%2F8035298825_2ccf568586_m.jpg&hash=44ae2904fb231863a3175d054e3fe1b6e9a858f9) (http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8313/8035298825_2ccf568586_b.jpg)

Thanks, Art! Regarding service trucks, wait until you see the Lot for this Singapore A380 ;)

ivo_su - many airlines agree with that position on the A380, but the 787 and 777 enjoy the reverse situation. So really it all balances out in the end.

Jack_wilds - not in time for Christmas (except for pics), but not much longer...

apeguy, Jack Bauer - thanks and keep watching, there's so much more coming in the 747+ project!

Requests Volume 4 Released - get it here on the LEX (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2738)!

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm9.staticflickr.com%2F8173%2F8035082845_300efda190_b.jpg&hash=9c529d90be5bf075febfe1854bff4727fd26fab5)

Couple of new things besides the aircraft in this one:
  - new stair truck installed on both the hard stands (standalone prop)
  - new vehicle area markings for hard stands. These omit jetbridge-related prohibited areas, plus give a more basic look suitable for re-use in upcoming freighter lots.
  -

The amount of new props and textures done just for the requests is piling up. Might be time to collect them into new mega props & mega textures... it would cut the dependency list by half.

Thanks, Ivo, hopefully it won't be too long now until the previous requests are completed.

When the Singapore tail is complete, that will be the last hurdle to full-speed livery production. I've had around 50 others to cross (since finishing the A380 basic mesh), which has slowed things down until now.

Thanks to everyone for your patience, keep watching to see high-volume releases as this project enters its 5th year  :)

It's bothered me for years that the Lufthansa, United, and Singapore logos seem to be backlit (instead of floodlit from the outside). The problem is that BAT erases normal-strength nightlights from blue and red surfaces... especially blue! But now I've figured out how to give extra light to just the blue & red parts, and leave the other colors alone.

Both the Singapore previews illustrate the effect with before/after photos. The entire light cone is now visible, just as with lighter color schemes... so when you've got a concourse full of new-edition AC jets, the tails will appear much more consistent and natural from one plane to the next  ;D

Thank you Pat, Joel, and muxcomee!

With only 2 releases in eight months, I can say the A380 project certainly feels epic &mmm  From now on there are no suprises, the A380 will follow the same sequence as real-world deliveries (placing Emirates next up). There's no 747+ pairing for Emirates; TWA will be the first Series 1 aircraft to be upgraded.

Joel, that's exactly what I had in mind for this set of markings but I want to note (for all the lot-makers out there), that last batch is really intended for cargo only. For commercial airline use, a set with marked passenger walkways will be coming with the TWA 747-100. Along with a nifty set of covered stairs  :)

good work guys

i wanted to know if you will be able to make a corner jetways for your aircraft... like in this pictures:

Fractional-angle gates are an interesting Lot-making problem. Several stages of the Prefabs (http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/7834/airport92hr0.jpg) have them, however it's not feasible to produce modular gates this way.

I'd considered building them for the A380, but ultimately rejected the idea due to a big usability issue. We cannot truly defeat the grid... the lot itself is always going to be straight-sided. As a result it would expand to contain the angled ground markings and service vehicles. When these oversize lots are placed in groups along a concourse, there would be massive and unrealistic gaps between gates.

Thanks Jack_Bauer, apeguy, and muxcomee... and speaking of Emirates, this will be along sometime soon  ;)

Nice work on those planes, Voltaire! The Emirates 747-8F is especially impressive.

On the topic of diagonal lots, I did once design a modular diagonal system to make corner and diagonal lots:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdl.dropbox.com%2Fu%2F17186207%2FDiagonal%2520Gates2.png&hash=438d0cdaf0e305f7ca856853863082dbd045a2a7)   (https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdl.dropbox.com%2Fu%2F17186207%2FDiagonal%2520Gates.png&hash=033030cfacde9ed47249c383421012c2d6cd4f24)

As you can see, there are various limitations, and a lot of little connector pieces needed to make it all work, but it was doable. However, due to time constraints I decided not to continue with the idea. I can release the texture pack though if anyone's interested.

Requests Volume 5 was Released (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2767)

Three new dependecy packages are here as well, you'll want them all to make these Lots work:
AC MEGA Props Vol09 (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2765) has all the aircraft and vehicles from the request packs (so far)
AC MEGA Textures Vol02 (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2766) has the new roadways and gate lines from the past year or so
AC Essentials (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2764) contains all the modding files like query boxes and exemplars

The idea with the MEGA packs and Essentials is to eliminate some of the modding overhead, hopefully reducing post-production time.

Thanks Joel, muxcomee, Jack Bauer for the comments - btw that stairs truck is inside Mega Props 9 (as a separate render) and more paint jobs for it will be coming up. Most of the 747 Classics, and all the freighters, will feature that truck.

Enjoy the new planes, everyone ;)

Requests Volume 6 Released!

This set introduces hard stands with nice covered airstairs for passenger aircraft. These early-model 747's (1970) are the first to feature this setup:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm8.staticflickr.com%2F7078%2F7233655800_51401ebb93.jpg&hash=693087dce9c5253728a072975218003dfc7f164c)   (https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm6.staticflickr.com%2F5323%2F7233647868_aff79c782f.jpg&hash=634f9afcc5ceccecf5fd8f905284df41ec04c81b)

Also in this set are two A380's, from Emirates and Air France:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm6.staticflickr.com%2F5461%2F7233647882_e9bf0c1ca6.jpg&hash=2f7000f2729851d902814c125b7c9f041a60f01d)   (https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm8.staticflickr.com%2F7235%2F7233655790_d4e7af6463_z.jpg&hash=35c7f6d759ee338ecaa91dee9247b74100fe2a5c)

Along with all these (it's a big set this time):

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm8.staticflickr.com%2F7096%2F7233647844_d27ca802eb_z.jpg&hash=8e920c77ae596da092dc5551b99a9809d21118e2)   (https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm8.staticflickr.com%2F7072%2F7233647862_c129dcf375.jpg&hash=4667f76faa7382d5c7239d79147acaf307af55e6)   (https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm9.staticflickr.com%2F8012%2F7233647830_71e5fdc887.jpg&hash=5ac4b7721537586600483a64154e671cbc77031d)

The size of this set caused it to be in development longer, and Emirates' gold-tone paint rendered poorly (at first) due to the BAT's image compression. I've learned to edit and re-insert images directly into the finished prop to fix this problem. Now that I understand that editing process, I can fix Ace's favorite airline, the only one we ever had to cancel: Braniff's all-orange 747 ;)

Another great (and huge) set of planes Voltaire, I really like the revamped TWA and Pan-Am jets with the air stairs and walkways. Are there plans to make walkway pieces with these new green textures and dark ramp textures in order to connect these jetways with the terminal? The main reason I'm asking is because the current RMIP walkways don't exactly match with these. Either way this is an excellent set, and I can't wait for the next one. ;D ;D

I wish to ask something about your aircraft releases: What factors are involved in the release of certain airlines?

One airline that I noticed missing is China Airlines, and I am curious how you guys decide which airlines to include in releases and which ones to leave out.
Title: Re: AC Aircraft
Post by: muxcomee on May 26, 2012, 09:37:56 PM
@shinkansen1 Don't worry, I am sure that China Airlines will be out soon, possibly with the next release, because if you look here (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=12354.20) (scroll down abit, until you get to the table), you can see that Air China (sorry, I knew it was one or the other) is number two on the agenda.

As for the factors, the aircraft packs that are being currently released are requests, 747+ update and the A380's which are released in the order in which they were released in real life. Its probably too late to make a request, but maybe you can ask Voltaire and see what happens :)

Actually, the SCAG Team have released an A340 of China Airlines, included in This Pack. (http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/27206-scag-a340-200-a340-300-jetways/) And I am very, very confident that Tabi has releases some props, which I am confident that someone lotted.

EDIT: And of Course, Voltaire, those planes are super sexy.

Post by: Voltaire on July 14, 2012, 07:44:30 AM
Hello everyone! Sorry for the long absence... it's been a rough couple of months. RL appears to be under control for now, so I'll try and finish up the requests quickly.

I'm going to change the sequence of the remaining requests, concentrating on one aircraft type at a time. Looking back over the last year, I think switching between types was a time-consuming distraction. With 8-12 paint templates for each aircraft type (some over 100 layers deep)... it's hard to keep them all straight.

So the next two releases will be broken down based on the paint templates, note this splits the 747 into two groups:

First release (early August):
- Boeing 737
- Boeing 747 -100 and -200
- Boeing 757

Second release (late September)
- Airbus A380
- Boeing 747 -300 and -400
- Boeing 747-8

EDIT: And of Course, Voltaire, those planes are super sexy.

Wait until you see the Virgin Atlantic remake -- the 2006 version with plenty of pearlescent crimson paint  :satisfied:

Thanks muxcomee!

apeguy, I wasn't planning to extend the green walkways to the terminal -- the intent was that someone walking toward the airplane would see the change from white stripes to green, and know that they're entering an active aircraft gate.

AhmadAzunai, I don't have a model of the Superjet... I do like the looks of it, but many things are taking my time so I probably won't do that one.

shinkansen1, from 2007 to 2010 the airlines were picked by the developers; and since January 2011 I've been doing them as listed here. (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=12354.msg394200#msg394200) China Airlines is a 747-400 so it's scheduled for the September release package.

737 and 757 Requesters, please watch your Personal Message inbox, starting next week I'll be sending a list of lotting options.

All Requesters please note that asking for your model *un-lotted* cuts its development time by 30% ;)

Thanks 1000000000000, and I appreciate you taking time to write up a proper photo entry. However to make it fair for everyone, I can't take requests here (ahead of the request thread reopening).

Right now the request thread is locked because I'm working through 30 previous requests... however the end is in sight and it'll be reopening soon, after the modelling work for Volume 8 is done.

Thanks apeguy and yjbrian. The China Southern was in this last release, it's in one of the screenshots below.

I just realized, the screenshots for the previous set (Volume 7) weren't posted. They do make a very colorful collage  :)

Earlier today, Requests Volume 08 went up on the LEX. This finally completes the initial run of requests, 747 upgrades, and A380's

This set introduces a hybrid 747 called the "Combi", which replaces the aft seating with a full-height cargo hold. The EVA Air request and KLM re-release are done as Combi's; with cargo pallets being unloaded through the side door. Several new pieces of GSE and cargo are in this set along with the usual catering trucks, tugs, and containers.

Coming up next in this project will be:

1. The 757's and 787's released only for the Prefabs will be updated and released on Lots
2. A set of new and updated 747 and 757 freighters
3. Extending the Prefabs to stage 10 (and perhaps 11) using the A380 and 747-8F

The first 747 freighter is nearly complete; the improvements here will soon be merged back into the -400F and -BCF gmax models:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm9.staticflickr.com%2F8336%2F8131278020_debe535643_b.jpg&hash=1b99b688942948d66205fbe362cd98371ac4b6db)

Also coming with the freighter set will be an assortment of large freight containers, pallets, and ground equipment big enough to handle that bulk cargo.

This release finally puts the rest of the 787 and 757 fleet on individual lots, with updated paint schemes and ground equipment. Until now, each of them was only on the higher-stage Prefab airports. Changes to the RL aircraft since 2009 are reflected in the new renders, such as the United-Continental merger, ANA's customized paint scheme, and the addition of winglets to some of the 757's.

Please don't bump dead threads. That red warning above the reply box in topics that haven't had a post in at least 90 days? It's there for a reason.

At any rate, the AC Team has been effectively defunct for four years now, so I wouldn't expect to see any new aircraft or other releases from them. Maybe it's time to lock this entire subforum, or at least this one thread?
