Thanks guys...

So, some new bats in the works:
The two buildings on the same Ginza street as the Yamaha building. These three buildings make for interesting W2Ws:

Trimble

oOh Media (a building in North Sydney). I just wanted to see if I could do those etched skylights that you see everywhere....the building was just an afterthought  ::)

New Releases:

The community Centre

Here: https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/33289-community-center/

And a whole new series of passenger ferries. A lot of custom content passenger ferries don't actually work for a whole slew of reasons, or if they do work, are very difficult to place, so I made some. I expect to see some copy-cat stuff soon. :P These ferries have the added bonus in that they will work with almost all of the sea-wall kits available

And, a brand new (old) one, V4:

Matt, if you think it's wrong I will delete this post, but I couldn't hold back - I wanted to repeat this bunch of beauty again on the following page.

(But of course also I hope to get some likes for nothing by stealing them from you)

Hi Matt!

I see that you don't stop with making great buildings! With every one I'm always amazed how you can keep an excellent quality... and quantity!  &apls

May I have a suggestion?  ::) I just thought... You make a lot of commercial offices... May I give you an inspiration to bat... my workplace? :D

Jacobs office in Krakow is probably one of the best commercial buildings built in this city in the past decade. It's a mid-rise, glass-covered and mostly consist of straight and sharp lines.

Aerial photo 1

Aerial photo 2

Link to the building in Google Maps 3D

I could make even more of real-life photos if needed.  ;D

If you look for more inspiration for your future projects, I could show you more offices in Krak󷠨or Warsaw). There's a lot of commercial mid- and high-rises that have been under construction in recent years (many of them really good pieces of architecture) :)
Thank you for visiting Kolbrów, and for being for last ten years!

mattb325

Thanks guys.

I like the Krakow offices and you should see them very soon.

Just a quick update on stuff in the works/new releases.

NEW RELEASES

Sunken Library
Designed to fit in with the sunken plazas from a few months ago; like that series, this will also receive shadows from surrounding buildings and trees

Here: https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/33315-sunken-library/

Ginza Buildings
A series of buildings from around the Ginza district of Tokyo. I chose these particular ones as they are able to blend in with western streetscapes. These were described by one so-called 'batter'(I use the term very loosely) as "simple square cardboard boxes".
I have set them to grow only on the Houston T/S so they don't become weedy. I do intend to make more of these 'simple square cardboard boxes'.

Yamaha Building

UPCOMING RELEASES

SC4 Lacks functional, narrow pedestrian laneways that are seen in so many cities.
I am making a series of interconnecting ones that all function together and tie into ped malls. As this is kinda new, and it is slightly different modding from the usual pedestrian enabled parks, I am giving them fairly thorough testing

So far, so good:

All together in action:

Brentwood Savings, LA
Another mid-century, mid-rise thing.

Burberry Chicago
A nice segue with the Ginza buildings, and shows that "simple square cardboard boxes" appear much closer to the Canadian border

Fictional New Build High Rises
Just exploring the modern penchant for moody, monochromatic colour schemes:

CG Trader
This is more of campus style arrangement for suburban areas

Nickov Industries
Nickov is a brand of Vodka. But you can bet your last dollar that this was not my intention with the name of this squat, uninspired and dumpy fictional building. Although, like too much vodka, the effects are the same: over-marketed to tell whoppers about how good it is, when all it leaves is a nauseating hangover and complete regret at ever having interacted with the stuff. And, just like Nickov, you really don't need it in your life at all.

NAB Hobart
Just a mid-rise from the BAT request thread

H&R Block
A request, because who doesn't want tax affairs in SC4....

Tree Farms
This is also a new type of farm field to represent tree plantations

....but, in my testing, I am having an issue with other farms growing over the top of it (and still leaving the original farm and fields showing). I've made farms before and never had this issue....everything is set correctly to the best of my knowledge (eg, monopoly pieces, I-Ag, etc). I wish I had collected more from the old BSC board, as Barby had written extensively on farms....so this may never see the light of day unless I can figure a fix

Vandamm House
From the movie North by Northwest. A fictional painting of the villains lair at the top of mount rushmore. I've made it a Mayors House (who doesn't want a lair) that provides the benefit of the reward without needing road access. (It can also be placed to overhang in game water)

I think that is all.... ::)

xxdita

I hope you can get the farm sorted out. In the meantime, I'll be playing with everything else you've done. :)

kbieniu7

Excellent quality and jawdropping quantity, I will repeat it every time you add a new bat :P
Thank you for visiting Kolbrów, and for being for last ten years!

xxdita

Matt, do you have other custom IA lots and fields in your plugins while you're testing the tree farms? I just came across this warning on the description for CSX Farms, and it sounds like what's happening with your testing so far:
Please note that all farm field packs must be installed to avoid missing fields and two farms growing on the same zone.

mattb325

#2207
Thanks guys!

At least it's a known issue with the farm fields.  :-[

But, like all my stuff, I make everything afresh rather than just doing a save-as to avoid this sort of issue, so I'm not sure if there is a link to CSX farms (which I'm sure I have in my plugins) and this farm allowing others to grow through it, and on top of it.

Attached is a picture of the .desc for the tree field lot; you can see from the 'unknown' exemplar of 0.5 that field was created in the PIM-X and it has the monopoly piece exemplar added. I've also attached a picture of the main I-ag lot and links back to the field lot.

I bet there might be something super obvious that I'm missing as it has been over a decade since I did anything meaningful with farms, and that was using the advice Barby gave me....

xxdita

I don't see anything out of sorts compared to Barby's farms or fields, but I believe that the issue with the fields is that if you have a custom farm lot installed, but don't have all of the fields it may use, then you run into this problem. So I'm thinking you may need to test your farm with an empty Plugins folder, as the issue may be coming from another custom lot?

mattb325

#2209
Thanks Nate. It does it with an empty plugins, as well. There is definitely something in the new fields exemplar that is missing to stop the upgrading process. I will have to do more digging  :-\

Edit. I think I have found it (parent cohort is set to default rather than farm field) I've amended and will report back once I've done some more testing  ::)

Tyberius06

Geez beautiful stuffs over here! I love your recent w2w mid-rise series, they are perfect additions to my cities, and you made a huge variety of buildings. Recently my closer family who I'm living with (my cousin, her husband and their child), and I started planning our future moves and we were considering buying one of those modernish-looking custom made container homes. I think these have an interesting desing, perhaps a next residental series from you, if you are interested in ;) :)
Container Homes on google

The other one would be houses on stilts. During this winter there was a lot of raining here this part of the UK where I live, and the Thames caused some series floods. Well before that I saw a bunch of houses near to the river on stilts (I think this is the proper term), but I couldn't imagine why they were built on those, besides it looks cool, and I haven't experienced such floods here in the UK before. Well after this winter I understand, why those families chose that design.

I don't think you would run out of ideas or inspiracions recently, but here are these few more if you are interested in.

Hi Matt!
As I wrote before, thank you very much for modelling Jacobs office. I'm amazed how quick you managed to do so, but you have already went on modelling other buildings. Chapeaux bas!  &apls

Similiarly to Tyberius, I allowed myself to make a short list with other interesting modern buildings from Poland.   ::) Of course, I don't expect you to model all of them or anything like that! It's just a bunch of ideas and inspiration from my side. Maybe anything caught your eye? You will decide if any of that list is worth your time ;D

Warsaw Spire, Warsaw:

Personally, my favourite skyscraper in Warsaw (beside socialist Palace of Culture, hah). It has smooth shapes and at night it looks spectacular.

National Symphonic Orchestra of Polish Radio (NOSPR), Katowice:

Opened in 2014 in Katowice, the centre of industrial and mining hearth of Poland. It is based on the characteristic Silesian, German-influenced, red-brick architecture, with red stripes near windows ressembling so called "familioki" - typical brick houses for factory workers and miners from XIX century.

NOSPR in Google Maps 3D

Angel City, Krakow:

Build around 2010, it's one of the best contemporary W2Ws in Krakow. Its brick façades ressembles the nearby Cracow University of Technologu (my Uni btw ;D ) located in what was in XIX century Austrian military hedquarters. They are in irregular angles, but maybe it would be possible to model themas 90, or even 45 degrees corners.

SKANSKA High Five, Krakow:

Located on the other side of the street, a part of a bigger complex, that is still under construction. Orange-y and black glass & panel facades. Very rectangular.

Avia, Krakow;

A modern residential area build around a former airstrip - that's where it took its name from. It became a symbol of weak urban planning, that allowed way too dense neighboorhoods to arise, with not enough of appropiate new public infrastructure around. Anyway, even if from urbanistic point of view is quite of a disaster, it's architecture is not that bad. It's quite plain and white - what could allow to have very repetetive-friendly quarters of mid- and high-rises, what would be very useful.

ICE Congress Centre, Krakow:

Build around 6 years ago, it's shape is quite fuzzy, as it was supposed to ressemble a melted brick of ice.

Cracow University of Technology, Department of Mechanical Engineering:

Something from 1970s, a large and very rectangular pre-fab complex for students. The new campus was supposed to be much bigger in order to hold all departments, but in the end, it became a home only for one of them. Fun fact: there is a café in an old tramway standing in front of the building.

Hotel Forum, Krakow;

And the biggest at the last place. A good piece of brutalistic architecture of 1980s. When it opened, it was the most modern hotel in Poland, completely computarised. It's very avant-garde shape and form became one of the most known landmarks in Krakow. Unfortunately, in early 2000 it was closed for renovation and never opened again. Today it serves as a giant banner, hardly possible to see it's entire shape not covered in ads.

Sorry, I overread this part several times. So many fascinating pictures, You have to agee, it's like reading adult magazines, they aren't meant to focus on the text.

I had the same issue and it seems to be related to pim-x.

You can read my whole odyssee here: https://community.simtropolis.com/forums/topic/74784-2017-lot-editor-and-plug-in-manager-forum-archive/?tab=comments#comment-1658274

For both exemplars of the field , lot and building, grow stage must be set to 0xFF. Otherwise the farm fields can be overwritten by other farms.

Hope this helps.

mattb325

#2214
Thanks everyone. Fantozzi, I think it was always set at 0xff, but the parent cohort was askew. I haven't done much additional testing in the farming tiles, but I think that fixed it as well.

There is only one logic explanation of Matt's productivity. He was cloned in a secret laboratory in China and then spread all over the world. Evidence, he can't be a single person comes from the fact, he's doing bats from all around the world (except Tristan da Cunha - he never did a bat from Tristan da Cunha) in very different architectual styles (ranging from neoclassical to postmodern) with a knowledge as if he was grown up in all those places and different cultures simultaneously.

That's why the SCSS (Sim City Secret Service) follows all of Matts  activities and is shure the avatar MattB325 means, he was cloned 325 times. Where "B" means "Borg" which stands for "Cyborg".

Come on, you can't be that naive and thinking a single man can create an opus of this dimensions close to Johann Sebastian Bach (who composed 1152 musical pieces) and about whom SCSS has evidence - he was an extraterrestian just bringing the music from another species to earth (see Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency for more details).
