A BEAUTIFUL PLACE CALLED EARTH
A MD by alan_vzla

Hi everyone, I'm Alan and I'm kind of new to the SC4D community. This is my first MD ever so I'm very excited to see how it develops and the reaction of the people to this project.

This MD is aimed to recreate places all over the Earth, trying to transmit the essence of that specific place with the culture, architecture; to resume, a recreation not intended to be perfect but aimed to maintain a certain level of realism.

I've been inspired by many MD's and CJ's so excuse me if you find this work similar to yours; I didn't make it with a bad intention, I did it because this was originaly intended to be a Honorific MD, where I was going to try to honor MD's that, in my opinion, deserved it.

This kind of project has been aborded previously by Iamgoingtoeatyou here and in simtropolis; and also by Hableurg in the mentioned site. I give you my most sinceer apologies if you think that I'm stealing your work or just making a copy; once again I'm not making this with bad intentions &ops.

I hope that with this MD, I can show the people out there what a beautiful world we have and how lucky we are to live in it. I don't have idea of when I'll finish this project, since I come up with new ideas every day.

I consider this work as a public MD, if you want to participate in it just talk to me and we will work something out, the doors are open for you . In order to do certain themes I will need new props and buildings and I might need in the future an official props supplier.

Finally (sorry for boring you with all that talking) I will like to dedicate this MD to my family for all the support they gave to me.

ENJOY

A beautiful place called Earth

UPDATE #1
MEDITERRANEAN STYLE

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2Fcaleux%2F1.jpg&hash=9945fad7b3a907efb6e56bde45f3fb61147654db)

Ok here we go! Caleux is an island and has a population of around 5000 people. This town is intended to recreate a mediterranean theme, where the buildings usually have a beige coloration, with thick walls and orange rooftops. The city is mainly Italian but has french, spanish and even german minorities

This was all for today. I hope you enjoy it. Something i forgot to say in the introduction: if you have any suggestion, critic, or any comment of how to make my building technique please write it, I'm always looking new ways to improve as a player.

Oh, sorry for my English, it's not my natal language

Wow, stunning. I'm really delighted by the quality and character of the images you've shown - they've got a feel to them that can only be described as being intangible. It's a great first update and I'm looking forwards to more.

My only recommendation would be to use a terrain mod - other than that you're good to go.

Very beautiful but you would choice another terrain texture ;)

A good looking MD, but I notice a few things.

- Very (unrealistic) steep roads. Use a slope mod to prevent this.
- Some messed up road textures. Update the plugins and make shure that the euro road textures are loaded after the NAM.
- A terrain mod would be nice

The rest, on the other hand is amazingly good. Keep it up please!

Best,
Maarten

sciurus54:same as before, I've already downloaded a mod. Thanks for stopping by
mrtnrln:thank you for commenting here. I agree on the steep roads, it's unrealistic but here in Venezuela we have some roads like that... so I didn't make a big deal about it; the road textures, thank you for saying that, I didn't know that; the terrain is been taken care.
Fatsuhono: Thank you
kimcar: I intended to give the city a sunny weather by brightening the photos; if you don't like it I will stop doing it
Earth Quake: thanks; I hope you like this update as much as the other one
bat: thanks for that nice comment
Simpson: glad you like the teaser, let's see if you like the full update
mrtnrl: thanks. Don't wait longer, here's the update

Note: I downloaded a new terrain mod, in this city you will only notice a new rock texture and not the whole mod because this city was already finished when I posted the first update. Other suggestions and the terrain mod will be seen in the next update.

This seems like a pleasant escape from big-city traffic, Alan.  I like your choices of farms.  They really do add to the variety of this area.  By the way, I laughed when I saw that secret building that we weren't supposed to see. :D

Thanks! When they saw me I pressed the pause button and send all the available units to the scene  ;) The reason of the little bump near the fire department is that it was placed there to fill some space.

I love seeing the diagonal canals... I don't think I've seen anyone else showcase them yet, even though they've been around quite a while.

Ok, lets critisise the pics.

Buildings -
Canals -
Flat land -
Street layout -
Windmills -
Highways -  (A at-grade intersection? That's not realistic)
Railways -
Rail catenaries -  (Missing detail)
Farms -
City walls -  (Not existing in most dutch towns. All demolished)
Signs - Doubt. Great that you've used my signs, but they are not used in the right way. The top sign is used for a highway-highway interchange, which is not the case. Anyway, it a great detail.

As you can see, you did it quite well. A applause for you.  &apls

Best,
Maarten

Alan, not bad, not bad at all.

Firstly, loved the rolling farmland in the previous update

The Dutch update also looks great and it is clear you put a lot of thought into the planning. Well done  &apls

You obviously pay attention to detail but there was one thing that did stand out that is shown in the following pic.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2Fholanda%2F2-0014.jpg&hash=85c80d5ec178eb0c24faa02294e69be17fc5b01b)

The elbows on the some of the bends are a tad ugly. With a bit of experimentation I'm sure you could get the smooth result like the two curves in the middle. I know it's a minor detail but it's those little things that make a good MD a great one. I hope you don't take that as critiscism, rather constructive feedback. You may not agree, I may well be wrong (not the 1st time  ::) )  but perhaps something to think about.

Regardless, as I stated above, a job well done. Look forward to more.

Dave

As an addition to Tooheys words:
Windmills are never placed between trees: the trees take away the wind!
Anyway, tehre is a much mor beautiful winmill by Oppie. You will find it at Simcitycentral.

You did a lot of good work on your Netherlands project. Nice. I am especially curious about how you made the canals with the green edges. It looks like you relotted callagerafx's canals, deleted the cays and replaced them by shrubberies. Is that correct?
I will try that one of these days.

Good work!

As you probably know, our next destination is the German Farmland, I've been working on it but it's not finished yet... lot of work at school...

The town is around 70% finished, there missing estructures are some farms and plazas that I'll start doing tomorrow. I hope to post the full update on friday... without anything else to say I present you today's teaser:

In both pictures the combination of houses and nature is very nice.
The dark castle with the fir trees gives a kind of Caspar David Friedrich atmosphere. But there is a lot of white  mist? under the trees. What is it?

The second picture shows a very nice street althought you made the houses a bit too brigt. You can see that the white surfaces "eat" a bit of the coloured ones. Pity.

But you catch nice atmospheres in you pics.

Good work, Alan.     Your update has a very "green" feel, which is balanced by the snow scenes.  The buildings also blend well together, although it's difficult for me to tell what's Res and what's Com.  Although I don't understand the wording on the red-roofed building in the first pic, I assume it's a police station.  Am I right?

Anyway, I vote with D.C., since it's in the U.S.  Of course, I realize that I may be biased. ;D

The sentece in the first pic means "Welcome in Germany"! But there ist an grammatical error...In german you would say "Willkommen in Deutschland"! But I know that german is said to be a very difficult language.
I really like your pictures. They remind me of Monschau (maybe someone knows this because of Christo and Jean-Claude), Eifel and the Rhine-Mosel-area.
It's very sad, that many fachwerk buildings were destroyed during the world war.
I voted for Washington ;) .

NEWS :blahblah:
First of all, thanks for all the nice comments so far, replies will come with a proper update. Today's post is to deliver some news.

First, the MD will change a little bit. Due to certain problems, the "recreation" style of the MD will change, now it won't be like this: "Today we visit London", "Today we travel to Vietnam" etc... but instead, the MD will be based on a fictional (don't know if it's the right word) country.

Updates will be based on a 2 week basis that I have been trying to maintain, and not to let go of this project that I comitted to do, sometimes "bonus updates" will be posted. These bonus updates will be similar to the ones I have been doing (with a theme, for ex. "German Farmland").  Sorry for going out of the "real cities" business, but I noticed that I'm not prepared and my planning and building skills are not as good as they should be to deal with such a big project.

Finally, I would like to excuse with everybody for leaving this project and for making you loose your time on a (as we say here in Venezuela) Big White Elephant.

Remember that this MD is still running, with a little detour, but still running. Thank you for reading and, one more time, sorry.

Alan

It's said that the best peaches and strawberries of Venezuela are grown here

KINGDOM OF NOVA TERRA, UPDATE #1
A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY

Nova terra was discovered on August 2, 1498 by Cristopher Columbus. On 1811 Nova Terra obtained it's independence from Spain after 50 years of war. After the independence, there was a lot of turbulence in the country, which allowed the Spanish Crown to obatin the power one more time, this only lasted 2 years. On 1830, the expansion wars started, after the 10 year campaing, Nova Terra doubled it's size and became one of the biggest countries of the continent. The economy of this new nation was based on agriculture, until 1914, when oil was discovered; the following years were marked by the great amount of foreign capital entering the country, it became one of the wealthiest countries, but this had a bad side, the fiels were abandoned and there was hunger in the country. During the following years this situation was solvented, and during the 50's the country experienced an economic boom that lasted for aprox. 30 years, this boom was due to the climbing oil prices, but on 1984 due to a coup, the economy collapsed and the currency was quickly devaluated, this situation persisted until the year 2000. On this same year, a recently elected president declared himself a dictator. During a period of 30 years, the country lived bad times, the people who dared to criticize the government where put to jail, many mass communication media were closed or eliminated, the economy fell on a 500% due to corrupcy and a bad economic policy... On 2032 a popular revolt started after the closing of the last non-government TV channel, the revolts occured in every city of the country, followed by a coup. The dictator was put to jail, two weeks later, he was found poisoned in it's cell. During the posterior months the country was without a leadership, and elections were made, the results made Alan Rojas (me!! whoopie!!) the new president of Nova Terra, which after some resolutions became the Kingdom of Nova Terra, monarchy was made the form of government to ensure that no other tyrant came into power during the following years, after a period of time had passes the monarchy would be eliminated and new elections should be made...

And now, I present you the national symbols of the Kingdom of Nova Terra

Flag
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2FImagen1.jpg&hash=81f8dc70792738ecf4128e0b601cbea12830e2ce)
The flag has a blue background, with five yellow stars representing the five original colonies that signed the Independence Act on 1811

Coat of Arms
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2Fescudo.gif&hash=17c3cacf5841f73e2d57ea93892dee65e2d95bf4)
The coat of arms is divided in 4, the upper right corner, shows a tribal desing in silver and gold, which represent the variety of our nation. Next to it is a black lion rampant in a red background, these simbolize the bravery of our people. Under this one there are silver and gold lines, representing equality. And finally next to it there are two black crossed keys in a red background, symbolizing the possessions of the Kingdom. The shield is surrounded by two flags. Over it theres a crown, representing the monarchy. Finally there is a lace with three inscriptions: Semper Fi (always loyal), Regno di Nova Terra (Kingdom of Nova Terra) and Sic Semper Tyrannis (thus, ever (or always), to tyrants). Under it theres a plate with MCMXCIV (1994), representing the year where the last of the countries of the World recognized our independence

The currency is the US Dollar, the official languages are English and Spanish. Italian and Latin are also spoken, the last one is now officially teached in all schools to avoid loosing this precious language. The political capital is Pretoria, and the economic is Astoria.

Anyway... this is a small overview of Nova Terra, hope you like it and stay tuned for the next update

KINGDOM OF NOVA TERRA, UPDATE #2
MONICA BAY

Monica Bay is a small rural community located on the west coast of Nova Terra, it's population is aprox. 2000 people. This town is, in a certain way, isolated. The only way to get here it's through a road that formed part of the National Infraestructure Network, before the trans-terra highway was built. Also, the railroad doesn't pass through here.

KINGDOM OF NOVA TERRA, UPDATE #3
ACACIA

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2FAcacia%2Facacia-0002.jpg&hash=faf1e1e0e8a0a1623dcb61c6f88ceb53266387fa)
Acacia is a quiet rural town of aprox. 13000 people, divided in 2 settlements, commonly called old and new Acacia, located on the east and west bank respectively. As you may see, "old Acacia" is much bigger that it's counterpart.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2FAcacia%2Facacia-0022.jpg&hash=45563b30ca2eaa730cbfa83f0748240be121369e)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2FAcacia%2Facacia-0021.jpg&hash=d9a1da300f770cbe7664a908e6f67322f4e2ee50)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2FAcacia%2Facacia-0017.jpg&hash=3539cd6e5dda3157520e7637de1bfac05ed40bb8)

As you can see, farm occupy most of the land. Another thing to highlight is that, even being a small town, Acacia has a very developed infraestructure system, consisting on both road and rail

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2FAcacia%2Facacia-0001.jpg&hash=095551e3945dc6976d4c88b4aeb1339b5c91d378)
One of the two bridges that cross the Nunavut (I know that this is the name of a region in Canada, but I heared it recently and liked very much) river, this river doesn't posses a big economic importance, becuase in most of its parts it's too shallow, it is mainly used by small private boats that go to Yavin lake

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2FAcacia%2Facacia-0006.jpg&hash=0021d973d47fa78105cd3f77051c671a10aff5c6)

Post by: alan_vzla on January 10, 2009, 02:47:45 PM
Just a small note... This last week has been full of happenings, but I wanted to share with you the most relevant

First of all: I joined the LBT team, after some months thinking if I should or shouldn't, I finally did it.

And last but not least, just wanted to say thanks to the people who made possible that this picture:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2FWON%2Fsa6.jpg&hash=070e4964607a3a0d5c47ea50b49c3566edbbf8ce)
entered the SC4D picture HoF, by winning the 3 in a row reglamentary competitions. And to the ones which I compited against (Art128, Pat and Simpson) no matter what the results say, those were all great pics!

Hi Alan,

I've finally had the time and the chance to look through all of your MD.  I may not have read all of the words, but I've enjoyed all of the pictures.  Your tour of the mediterranean, tuscany, holland and germany were all very good.  The natural shots of everest, great barrier reef and angel falls were also very impressive.  I think the frams on those rolling tuscan hills and the angel falls were my favourites.

And your own kingdon Nova Terra is getting off to a great start.  I've enjoyed it all.  Good luck with the next stages and I'll make sure I come back again.

Paul

Hi!
First of all: let me say thanks to all of you who made possible the moving of my MD to the Best Seller sections... Tough I must say that I'm a little sad: if 100 comments were so hard to get... imagine getting 400 comments more! But, it doesn't matter: it'll be a good experience.

Now for what you really care: Pictures...
Due to the King's birthday... The Royal House of Nova Terra: determined that a new picture should be released, so here is it:

KINGDOM OF NOVA TERRA, UPDATE #4
BALNEA

Balnea is a medium sized subur of aprox. 10000 inhabitants located on the west coast, It's the place where the Nunavut river flows into the ocean. The last of the 5 bridges that cross this river is built here. It houses the only highschool on the called: Ring cities, which is conformed by Monica Bay, Acacia, Aversa and Balnea. Now, lets go with the pics:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2Fbalnea%2Fb-0017.jpg&hash=11c62d30a5de305a759eb4145403af5201b6aa63)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2Fbalnea%2Fb-0005.jpg&hash=75b9b9d647a3bb9f165ee9d1742b223a2a0f49be)
Balnea, is mainly a place to live, the home of the workers of the nearby towns, but yet it do houses some farms

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2Fbalnea%2Fb-0009.jpg&hash=bb67c851fc763edd067c1e291fe3b8e29159c443)

As it is seen on both pictures, the Nunavut river separates Balnea into two bays, similar to what happens in Acacia. Also, you can see the change of elevation in both bays, why? this was caused by the erotion, when the Nunavut river was bigger (where the dinosaurs ruled the Earth), since that thime it has been slowly drying, it's said that in 500 years, there will be no Nunavut river

Notice the elevation change in both...

In all the pictures you can see that there is only one main road, that travels to all directions, but is only one; and it's called Via Victoria, it serves as a connection between Balnea and her neighbors

This picture shows the NTB-nvut 05 (the code stands for Nova Terran Bridge - the particle names the river or lake that it's crossing, in this case the Nunavut river, and the number is used if there is more than one ridge crossing the forementioned water body), most commonly knowed as "The thing"

And to finish, here's a pic of all of those tired workers goming back home after a long day of work...

QUICKNOTE: some of you may have noticed that the "replies" banner has changed, this new one was made by CraigKingOfIreland, through his photoshop service... thanks a lot mate!

And, in this update I've extensively used photoshopping, mainly on the water, when I made it, it looked good to me, but afterwards I realized that it was just a bit too much... so, don't worry I will not play with it unless is strictly needed!

Thats all for today's update, I hope you like this one and... well I'll see you around
Alan

Alan,

First of all, congratulations of the well deserved award!
I saw your first time a few days ago.I like it very much. Your project to show so many different places on the Earth is really ambitious, but it is performed very well.
I like your pictures - and there are a lot of them!  :D  Maybe some house are a bit repetitive, maybe some sharp edges could be hidden, but it is not important. You are able to show the specific climate of various places, and this is the most important thing.

My most favourite update is Tuscany. Beautiful landscapes, I like the way you composed rolling hills covered by farmfields
You have a talent to create beautiful landscapes. Your mountains are great, the Great Barrier Reef and Angel Falls are really impressive.
There are not too much people making such things, please continue showing beauties of nature!

And most of all - the joy of CS4 playing is clearly visible on your pictures! :) So it is a pleasure for your viewers too.

Adam

I'm pretty sure I've commented here before, but if not, I'm not sure what's kept me from doing so. You have an excellent style to your cities, their layout, the buildings you use, and the effects you add to the pics. I particularly like the cp homes in the last update. They cover the area, yet do not seem repetitive. I also like how the farms seem to creep into the town, and vice versa. Your pic of Angel Falls was really well done too. It is a simple, yet complex picture and the feeling of depth you gave it really makes it shine. Congratulations on OSITM, and I'll look forward to seeing what you have in store. The first image of Sultana National Park looks pretty good.

threestooges: You have visited me before, and every visit counts! Thanks for those very kind words, I'm glad you like my work on the game... The fields weren't really in the original Monica Bay plan... but when I went to Region View, the change between fields and houses was a little too drastic... so to smooth it a little, I added those fams. As a former resident of the Texas Gulf Coast, I've seen many oil refineries and drilling rigs at night. Can't say I've seen a refinery that looks as good as yours, but the image still brings back fond old memories. Looking forward to seeing all the plans you have for Nova Terra unfold in the weeks to come.

Alan,

I really like this picture.  It shows some very good imagination.  I also at first missed the vehicles crossing the river.  The sandy shore line is a good effect, it is the paths, right?  And the photoshopping was a perfect touch.  Very well done picture, nothing over the top, but the picture speak volumes.

KINGDOM OF NOVA TERRA, UPDATE #5
ISOLA DEL NORD

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2Fisola%2520del%2520nord%2F0008.jpg&hash=1c65faae234b7ce6c21fa8ffcea3264ee40cb475)
Isola del Nord (Northern Island) is a small Island located way inside the Caribbean sea, it was reclaimed by the Kingdom of Nova Terra on 1510, and it's location gives a lot of benefits to the kingdom; extending it's territorial waters almost all over the Caribbean, a zone of great resources (natural gas, fishing opportunities) and also it serves as an income source for the government: any foreign ship that goes through here must pay taxes. For it's location there's a lot of controversy, some Caribbean state-islands reclaim it as their own, fortunately for us, International courts recognise the island as ours

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2Fisola%2520del%2520nord%2F0007.jpg&hash=3c313c9228f589c7251556e7550e7ccd3656bf69)
As Isola del Nord is located very far away from coasts, it houses a Nova Terra Coast Guard station, which the last year attended over 50 emergency calls; and ambushed 20 boats, which means that an aprox. of 5 tons of drugs didn't entered the kingdom

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2Fisola%2520del%2520nord%2F0002.jpg&hash=8362e002be31e4c34f97f49e4bfaf44fb2c6b21a)
It houses the Jacques Cousteau Oceanographic Institute which focuses on sea fauna, yet the top floors host a meteorologic center, one of the best of the World: besides the Kingdom of Nova Terra functionaries, there are always foreign scientists. This center is the one that warns about hurricanes in the Caribbean.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2Fisola%2520del%2520nord%2F0005.jpg&hash=6910c439f34f78d1ae98d97434bbe6f55aab3ec3)
And how the center obtains its data? Through these ^, these buoys are all over the sea, all of them gather data and send the to the Cousteaus center

Really impressive layout of that island Alan, and very good use of an old but great Pegadyne Oceanographic Institute!  &apls
(It was one of my favourite BAts long time ago when I started playing SC4, I placed it in my first city  :)

Very good composition of rocks and trees, the whole bay looks very realistic

This muddy river looks excellent too, that's fantastic we have some ploppable vehicles yet, what do you think?  :)
Some people from Europe can be surprised of this river color, but looking at Google Earth we can see it  often on South America rivers

Alan, excellent work on this update. Congratulations on the trip to the hall of fame. It was an innovative pic. The island is great. I don't just mean the buildings, but the actual island itself is very well done. The little bay is very well done, and Peg's Coast Guard station fits in there perfectly as do all the other elements. It's interesting. It looks like the island was built specifically for the structures, and yet it still looks natural. Very well done.

Dark_Jedi06: Thanks a lot!
Sciurus:thanks!
art128: it's ok man, I know what it is... I have to do it also, thanks!
kimcar: Thanks, glad you like them!
bat:thanks!
Ennedi: Thanks! Yes indded, the brownish color is the most common in  our rivers, mainly because they have strong currents that move a lot of sediments, giving them their color
threestooges: Well, the bay was terraformed by the government to ensure a safe port for the coast guard ships
Jmouse: Thank you very much!
Simpson: Thanks, here is the new update!

Ok, today it's just an update to show you on what I've been working... So it's not an update but at the same time it is... let's call it Update #5 1/2...

I've been working on Pretoria, which is the capital of the Kingdom, for it, I will try to use an entire Maxis region, which, if my memory doesn't fails me, is formed by 80 tiles, My first enterprise will be to set up the main infraestructure system (avenues, highways and rails), and I begun on a big tile, which will be the "Old" downtown, so here is it what I've got so far

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2Fpretoria%2F0000.jpg&hash=303b5007744ad6619c7b29ad6f654a6684c0733e)
The central train station will go in another city tile, so no rail is used here

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2Fpretoria%2F0001.jpg&hash=7a772301b9f5beb136baa6f5bae576b706cc8c5a)
On the first picture, you may have noticeda gray strip on the center of the tile, It's this ^... This four streets are to show where the main avenue will be, something like Champs Elysees or something; i'll try a big avenue just like Cedric (Badsim) has medae for his AWESOME MD, Antigone

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2Fpretoria%2F0002.jpg&hash=a0f8b15a2b6954fd6d11eb36c6e3304cf856a338)
Also, the retainig walls for the highway is placed, this is the raw product, the only things that were built were the interchanges, when I start to clearify my ideas, some parts will be demolished and replaced by tunnels... overpasses will be adde, maybe I'll try the FLUP's available on the new NAM.

Now some tips for you (if you're experiencing my problems): When installing the new NAM, unnistall the old one and run the Cleanitol, because if not, you will end with twice the icons needed; I'm using the asphalt mod for highways, when I installed the NAM, only certain parts showed with these textures, to solve it, delete that plugin from you folder and download again, that should solve your problems...

Well, some questions: what do you think of the walls?? and about the general layout?? Remember, suggestions are strongly encouraged.

Maybe tomorrow I'll have some new addings to this tile, It's election's day over here so the Department of Education cancelled activities tomorrow in public and private schools

Take care, Alan

80 tiles... sounds like quite a project, but I'm sure you're up for it and it looks like you're off to a good start. I like the hub design for the area. I'll look forward to seeing the main avenue, and the rest of the area, when its completed.

threestooges:Here's a little preview of how the avenue is looking, thanks!
Emperor Stormont: welcome to the Kingdom, thanks for that nice comment!
Simpson:thanks, glad you like it
Sciurus: wow... thanks a lot!
tcx: thanks!
mrtnrln: glad you like it, but this is only the old-downtown area, a lot of work is forward
bat: thanks!

First of all, I'm sorry for not posting in over a week, but real live has been hectic... lots of exams in school, lots of soccer training (a second division team is interested in me), organizing an International Model of the United Nations in my school.... anyway... a lot of things to do

I made a little change in the layout of the old-downtown, as a result the main avenue has been shorten to 56 tiles, here's tow pics of the second, and largest section, of the avenue:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2Fpretoria%2Fav0000.jpg&hash=29e18a4b1495f67c30fb55136c1d707470794ea1)
this section is conformed by four lots: the avenue (31x4), the intersection (2x6) and the sidewalks, one on each side (31x1 each)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2Fpretoria%2Fav0001.jpg&hash=d4c70357478f5de1f7541d0b1b36e8caa3297358)
and since IT IS the capital city, we need to add certain details like a presidential convoy or something. The avenue also has bus stops on both sides, and all the trees are seasonal.

Other details:
·Two textures used were made by me
·On the sidewalk, there is people, but they're timed props, so they can't be seen here
·Also, I used porkie's tree leaves, they show on fall
·The bunch of people seen in the middle of the avenue is to simulate a large crowd waiting for a signal change to cross to the other side
·Jeronij's buses were used, but the are also timed props
·The bus stops are the ones of the SFBT parking lots

Well.... I'll try to end the first section today so the update might be tomorrow, but again, no promises
And to finish, a little quote
"We have learned to fly the air like birds and swim the sea like fish, but we have not yet learned the simple art of living together as brothers."
                                  -Martin Luther King Jr.

Congratulations on a successful month in OSITM Alan. Being able to keep up with school (and a model UN) while running one of these things is quite a task, but you seem to be doing quite well. The avenue looks great, and I can only imagine how it will look once it begins to be filled in with buildings. Great work.

Hi everyone!, after a long time I can finally play SC4 again

I've been working on some lots fore Pretoria, these lots will be placed along the main avenue; these lots can bes een either on the show us your custom lots thread, or at my thread on the LBT sub-forum. Since I'm finally on vacations, I'll be posting more constantly as the city advances, there wont be an total update per se, but small parts of the city developing

now, a picture for today; it may look simple, but I've been working on it for over 8 hours now, sincronizing all the lots and stuff

Schulmanator: thanks! if you really need anything like that or another lot, just send me a PM and I will work on it
Pat: thanks!
art128:glad you like it, the texture is from NDEX Base Textures Set 1
mrtnrln: I'm trying to do it, let's see if this gets to your standards
bat:Thanks, glad you like them
threestooges: it truly is, thanks!
simpson: thanks!
metarvo: Thank you very much, I hope to get to the OSITM's another time too

Here's another update on the area surrounding the Avenue, here you can see that I finished 2 of the 3 quarters, all the boulevards and the market place, which is a combination of two different lots. The area besides the market will hold a hotel, and the area besides the palace is a secret  $%#Ninj2

It is also nice to follow your work so closely. Hearing about your thoughts of how to do it is interesting. Please tell us more.
And then: so you do plop everything? Will there be there a moment that you push the "run" button? Or will you develop everything on the 1st of january in the year 0?

Cabrabuitre: thanks!
FrankU: Well thanks. Yes, I DO plop everything, because this area is "special"; I don't know what I'm gonna do time-wise, I think that if I want it to look good I should develop it on January 1st, year 0  :), but I also want to make it functional  :'(, so I don't know what I'm gonna do

This LOT was surprisingly more easy to make than the previous ones, but I didn't uploaded it before because I was with my friends (it's vacation time after all).

This LOT is the Hotel Regina, this is the most prestigious hotel in the city, you can see stars and foreign politicians arriving and leaving very often. The hotel isn't cheap, most of the rooms are about $3000 & up per night, of course when you're paying so much you have some priviledges as well too, such as a 24 hour Mercedes at your service, together with a personal buttler and of course a bottle of one the most fine champagnes cooling in your suit.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi409.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fpp176%2Falan_vzla%2F0005.jpg&hash=ee3c826cb4992f0b8f6d0906db70b7ea429a98e1)

As you see, there are still many empty spaces left, but hey, inspiration is not working all day long  ;D

Take care, Alan
