Title: Eloaria (23 April 2016- City near the river)
Post by: Kergelen on October 07, 2011, 02:37:38 AM
Attention!!!
Due to imageshack account problems I'm currently reuploading pictures. It's done from page 1 to 10, and from 16 to the end

After a while I've been active in the forum its time to presenting my region. I had play SC4 from 2003 to 2006 and after som inactive time I returned to play for the past year and a half. During the time I see that many innovations were made and when I saw all that could be done now with sc4, and watched the images on the MD's and Picture Competition, I was very exited. I  saw the game was greatly expanded the possibilities and during this last time active in SC4D I learn some things reading tutorials. I especially like the recent innovations on seasonal flora and the SimCitynature/landscape although I like everything in general in SC4.  In my mind I have a lot of things that I want still to learn and to build. So before I begin my MD I want to thank you all for all this work. SC4 is alive after 8 years and everyday with better custom content.

I'm really happy to start a MD here in Devotion. :)

So without further delay this is my region:

Noah: Thanks for the welcome :)
wallasey: I'll show more about city walls in future updates. Thanks :)
Republic: Thanks. I spent a lot of time because I have made many growables Lots.  :)

Today I present the town of Liaudginai. It is a town that had always wanted done with the SimCity, inspired by a medieval city. I have made many growable Lots so the town is mainly growable exept the landmarks and parks, of course. I'm writing with my english knowledge and help of traductor so there may be mistakes.
The town is located in a hill and sourrounded with two rivers: Merkys and Flamisell. The main economic activities are tourism, because of his past historically important in the region, and the agriculture. In the past Liaudginai was the capital of the region and character of its small historic capital has been well preserved until today.

Great start with your MD, already love it :)
LE work, textures and choice of buildings are really nice !
I just think that you should try to add a little bit more density in this city.

So many great pictures.  &apls Your city looks great in all seasons.  :) In Figure 2.4, I just see the wedding, a very nice detail.  :o In Figure 2-6 the autumn shines in all its colors. Fantastic!  :o
My favorite picture is 2.7 with the market and the theater left in the photo is also in the half-timbered style.

Edit: Two comments, because I've discovered even more  :P  $%Grinno$%  :P

Hi,

Benoit: You are right. In the medieval cities the buildings are more close each other and the streets are narrow (2,3,4 meters) and mainly pedestrian in today's cities. I make those Lots one year ago and were practically my first Lots. If today I make them, would be very diferent. Maybe not growable but more ploppable,  with narrow streets and more density. Also  I wanted to make the city with stone grey houses ( as the castle texture), not timber houses,  but I didn't found.  The positive think is that I learn making the Lots and the next cities will be more real. Thanks for your comment! :)

AhmadAzunai: Thanks! You can find the citywalls from roulbak here http://www.toutsimcities.com/downloads.php?view=1369 (http://www.toutsimcities.com/downloads.php?view=1369)
and the timber frame houses are from xannepan and you can find here http://www.simtropolis.com/forum/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=user_activity&mid=14885&search_app=downloads&userMode=all&sid=ff79faf1323097527d00c1666596c06c&st=30 (http://www.simtropolis.com/forum/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=user_activity&mid=14885&search_app=downloads&userMode=all&sid=ff79faf1323097527d00c1666596c06c&st=30)
With the buildings I made several growable lots( $,$$,$$ and almost all the stages) If you are interested I could upload to the STEX, but I'll need some time because I never upload there and would have to learn ;)

Kelis: Muchas gracias! I always appreciate your comments!

Kbieniu7: Thanks! Here you have more seasonal nature sceens  ;)

rambuckel: Thanks! :)

Dantes: Thanks!, and many thanks for the second comment. I just write this update and see it. :D

I'm here again with some more pictures. There are from another part of the city and from the Flamisell river. I made the seasonal scenes in the begining of the seasonal MMP (six months ago) , when was "only" avilable birches and maples from Girafe. And recently I used some from the VIP Rural Pack and CP seasonal trees from Lowkee, but not much.

Knapp: I'm glad you like it. I like your rivers too, and I'm following your water works on Simforum

The next pictures are of the walls and the entrances to the city.

The walls are partly original and partly rebuilt. This is explained by the history of Liaudginai. Liaudginai was the capital of Eloaria, which for years was a monarchy. As in other European countries in the mid-nineteenth century region became a republic and the center of power moved to the coastal city of Merkin ( another city I'm working on), where he spent much of the forming bourgeoisie of Eloaria. The loss of capital caused Liaudginai could enter a period of decline. Some walls collapsed for lack of maintenance and more than a house was abandoned because people are going to live in the capital where there were new economic possibilities. At that time Liaudginai could work in agriculture and little else. Despite the loss of ¼ of the population that many residents were unhappy with the proclamation of the republic were reluctant to leave the city and Liaudginai became a stronghold of pro-mornarquics and continued to live there. After a few years, in the 50's the country regained interest in its history and its monarchical past and began to recover Liaudginai established there the museum of history in the castle that I showed in the previous update. From the 70's Liaudginai won in touristic and over the years the walls were rebuilt and several hotels were installed in buildings constructed bringing the population to a new economic boom that keeps today.

MrMavE94: Thanks, it's a pleasure to share it here  ;)
Terring: Thanks  :)
estuary: Thanks, but either do not understand your comment. Do you think the fields are too square or you think should be more square?. Is there a comma between the word "so" and "squarish" that does not understand well what you mean. Anyway, thanks for your comment!

Today I present my first mosaic. :)

Nice mosaic  Your city reminds me Langres in France which is also sitting on the edge of a plateau. But the surrounding fields remind me also Carcassonne (the walls are based on those of this town), where my father comes from.
So I enjoy it very much.

WOW, I missed your last update. The location of the fortress is great ... The roads leading to the gates must have been real effort in times when the fortress was built.

I'm really looking forward to your next pictures!

Wow, phenomenal work Kergalen, I can't believe what I've missed since last time!  :o

The town with its old-style buildings and great walls is looking wonderful and the surrounding countryside is just as nice! Excellent forests, rivers, roads, trains, and more! Your rock mod (I assume its one of Ennedi's from the look of it) fits in perfectly for those steep cliffs below the city walls. Really great stuff  &apls &apls &apls

Lior, 976, RickD, Benoit, Dantes, nbvc, rambuckel, chester many thanks for your comments  :)

Knapp: Many thanks. I didn't know Langres but I just see somepics and are really beautiful.  And I have been three times in Carcassonne,  i love it and is one of the best town I've visited.

Noachlem: Yes, it's Ennedi's rock mod and I chose it specifically because they keep the same color as the walls. I am glad that you've noticed it.

Well, the last two weeks I was very busy and I didn't have a lot of time to update. Today I show the waterfalls, located near the city.

I would like to see Eloaria updated like it is at CapitalSimcity , as I do not intend to learn Spanish language , :P , and as Google translation is terrible ! $%Grinno$%

The drowned church by the dam lake is a spectacular update and , having seen exactly that kind of scene in RL , it was so good to see it so well reproduced with SC4 !

That's a beautiful MD you have here , discreetly ( so far ) among the ones I'll follow carefully to tell you the truth ... BATs , Mods , NAM , nothing is enough without a strong imagination , like it seems you have , to go beyond what that old city builder was made for .  :)

rambuckel, bat, dantes, carlfatal many thanks!! :)

976: The watermod is from "Rivit's Coastal Mod" (available on the STEX and WMP web) and the ploppable from jeronij (LEX). Many thanks for your coment! :)

Noa: Many thanks! Yes, not bad for a busy week but I made this city about 8 month ago and now I only have time to prepared and upload the pictures and not a lot of time to play :(

Badsim: I really apreciete your coment. You are one of the most important people in making this game remains as current and show that there is still much to discover, learn and innovate. Your MD is my most important reference. Of course you'll see Eloaria updated like in CapitalSimcity and in the future with all new material of the VIP team. Is only a matter of time :)
Without the trees of the VIP team my updates seem a bit out of date even though only a few months ago I made the town. :P

Well, after almost one month without update today I show an overview of the town and surroundings and some town places.

nbvc, io-bg, Kbieniu7: I try to build cities considering their natural environment and rural and paying attention to the general views are the most consistent possible, but trying not to forget the small details. But there are still a lot of things to learn and in your MD I can find great ideas. ;)

rambuckel: Many thanks! Glad you like the landscaping :)
Benoitt: Much aprecciated comment as you are an expert in integrated cities in the landscape.
Noa: Thanks for your suggestion, but in this case I left the rock expressly without trees largely because I like to see free.
Terring7: Thanks. I'll follow the city in your MD. :)
clemenclm: Gracias-Thanks!  :)
976: Many thanks! :)

In this update I'll show closest views of the rural area and road communications (only a RHW-2 since it is not an area with much traffic)

Great pictures again  :) I'm really amazed about your highway intersection.

Actually I seem to be to create even a straight piece of RHW  ;) But I keep trying. I'm not giving up yet!

Superb!  Using RHW2 you have made a good choice n my opinion - dual carriageway highway would be too big for this area. Now looks better.  :)
I like the railways - many curves between trees smash the grid a bit ;) By the way, I suggest you to use, for example, more grass or bushes to hide "stairs" on the fields.
But you are also inspiring me. I was thinking how to mix CP's and Girafe's trees, especially at Italia terrain mod - and I can see your effect is quite nice! I must think about it more, trying at my region  ;)

Kergelen, hi!  I'm going to "unlurk," as it were, for a minute and say that with Eloria you have created a quite credible rural European countryside feel.  I particularly liked your update of December 17th, and can only imagine the time it takes to search out and place lots and plops that create such an integrated feeling of antiquity carried forward into modern times.  I agree with kbieniu7 that the RHW-2 used as a "Super-2" is the perfect regional road for what you have created, as we saw similar RL equivalents in the same sort of countryside as we traveled through southeastern France last fall.

rambuckel: Thanks! Have a nice time with the RHW. :)
Noa: Thanks! It was my first RHW work ;D
RickD: Many Thanks! :)
Bat: Many thanks! I hope 2012 will be a good year. :)
Kbieniu7: The next time I'll make field without the "stairs". With some diagonal texture lots or with MMP. Many thanks!
Dantes: Many thanks! As you said I wanted to do like in the RL, medieval city with modern infrastructure.
dedgren: I'm glad you have stopped to comment on my region. Yes, quite work due to most of the city are growable and I spend a lot of time making lots for every stage and wealth. As you said I wanted to "connect" an ancient village into the modern times and I appreciated you have noted it . My goal is in the future create a better credible cities and landscapes. Of course I have learned a lot with this medieval citiy and if today would build again, would be better. Many thanks! :)
art128: Many thanks! :)

This update is something new.
With the medieval city of Liaudginai,  I realize one of my dreams with SimCity4: build a medieval walled city. So I close this phase and start another when I'll build the capital of the region, wich I will show in future updates and will be a different style. But before, I want to show this update of natural environment and inspired by a real swamp. The "Panta de Sau" reservoir, located near Barcelona. As in other reservoirs was built where formerly there had been a village and now the old bell tower of the church stands out of the water. It is a very appreciated place in Catalonia.
And I want to dedicate these update to Girafe, that recently announced his retirement (perhaps someday he'll return?). ::)

Thanks The Floraler

A part from the borders, no photoshop on the pictures.

I'm glad that you finally posted this update here , my favorite so far , having seen such flooded villages by a dam as it has been quite usual through Europe :

Graun , Italia ;

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg842.imageshack.us%2Fimg842%2F5444%2Fgraun.jpg&hash=30c6bf4a56161aa2950f864f4a16f773f26bb214)

Mediano , Spain ( Aragôn ) ;

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg442.imageshack.us%2Fimg442%2F2522%2Fmediano.jpg&hash=4a61ede619c1e036a338e3d476b2a6e11f6df6fc)

In France we had several sites like that too but , as far as I know , nothing is visible anymore , except some ruins when the dam lakes are particularly low .

Great idea so !  Furthermore , your "painting" skill with MMPs "brushes" is amazing and  the landscaping around is perfect ; I hope that you will explore more that subject matter as you're visibly among the most talented for . ;)

harryloko: Hi! wow, many questions... :D I try to answer your questions...My plugins are not very big 1,5 GB, but I have some other files out from the pluguins floder (2 GB)
What dirt paths do you mean? Maybe this (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1888) or maybe the brown one. For the brown one I made using Heblem Sand (http://www.simtropolis.com/forum/files/file/24399-hbs-tropical-flora-pack-mayor-mode/) and resizing with the Model Tweaker (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=7553.160). You can use this (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1885) too.
About the region, is a mixed map between some downladed maps, and some own terraformer. You can use the SC4Terraformer (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=731)
Hope this help and do not hesitate to ask me :)

rooker: I am glad you like it because the idea of recreate the flooded church came to my mind the day I saw in Mind Scape your update of the underwater pipelines . A small piece of MindScape is in my MD. ;D One idea leads to another idea :)

Badsim: Many thanks for your nice and motivating comment. I really love the world of MMP and natural, rural and landscaping. For now, I work on two fronts: on one hand the construction of the capital of the region and building on slopes ( mostly the old-town) and the other drops the exploration of MMP and rural/natural scenes. I will alternate both. :)
The picture from Italy is beautiful and I didn't know about Mediano, although it is relatively close to my home.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In this update I take the first steps of what will be the capital of the Eloaria, called Merkine. For now I'm focused on the old-town which is situated on a hill. This part of the city is inspired or have any idea of Girona and Tossa de Mar (Catalonia) especially with regard to the stairs and the situation on a hill. There are many old towns situated on slopes, especially in European cities, and I want to explore about build on slopes with narrow pedestrian streets.
Of course, any idea about narrow streets and some better stairs are welcome.
Today, a small update :)

What can I say about theses pics?
I like a lot the use you have given for the Namspropof props. They are so good in your streets.
I love the stairs in the streets.

I don't know that I've posted here before, and I'm not sure how I've missed it. Very nice work. I loved the plop water-game water transition in 3.3 (from the first page) and I'm curious how you attained that look. As for this current update, one thing that I notice about your pictures is the depth they contain.: the walls, elevation changes, and careful attention to slopes, it all blends together to provide plenty of detail for the eyes.

Good job, Kergelen!  This will be one of the first places I look for inspiration when I plan to construct a Mediterranean district.  The split-level feel of the area is quite intriguing.  It's a nice bonus to see the GLR-in-Street used as well.  I don't see it too often.

Recently I have been a long time with the LE and that's why the updates are infrequent. I'm still building on slopes the old-town of Merkine ( capital of Eloaria). In these new pictures you can see the importance of the Parasol Pines by Girafe, giving a final touch to the Mediterranean style.

It's spectacular  :o

You're truly a master of building on slopes. The Mediterranean feel is perfectly done (the Parasol Pines are a nice touch) and the wall relots again look great.

A small tip: in 11.2 the street ends in the middle of it's tile and a driveway on the lot begins but the two aren't connected (in the lower left corner). You can use SAM starter pieces to get them to connect seamlessly--just place the starter piece and delete the part of it with the discolored sidewalks, leaving the other half where you want your street to end. Hope that makes sense.

Congratulations on making it to the Best Sellers  &hlp

Noah, Framly, rooker, A.Gates, Kelis, chester: Your comments are much appreciated, many thanks. I'm glad your like the slope-building and the church plaza

rambuckel: I understand what you mean. I try to recreate the quotidian things of an old town with nice but non-spectacular buildings but trying to be nice the conjunction. :)
Yan: Indeed, is difficult building on slopes and before these pictures I make some mistakes  :)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Time for the second update of the OSITM. Is the second mosaic in my region and two night pics. This update is the essence of my old-town on a hill. Very simple and non-spectacular buildings with narrow and pedestrian streets and some tram ways.  Note that this is only the old-town of the city and I'm currently working on the modern part of the city. Below the church square you can see a small part of the modern city.

Framly: People from Merkine have strong legs to live in the old-town.  ;D

RickD: I thought the same when I take the night pictures :)

Benedict:Thanks and great work with the BTT+10.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Today another mosaic where we see more parts of the old-town and the area around. I begin to work on the beach area and I'm enjoying a lot the MMPing after some months of Loting. :)

I want to explain some things about the bottom of the mosaic (from the cliffs to the beach). First part the accesses to the beach. As this area is a natural area next to the city but has retained the characteristics of Mediterranean forest because there were no buildings have been built, there are some footbridge and bikes paths bordered with stones to acces to the beach. It is forbidden to leave the paths defined and only people can walk without any problems in the area of beach sand. This is a way to preserve natural values in an area frequented by locals and tourists.

And secondly on the left is a small stream. The Mediterranean climate is a highly seasonal climate where some day can rain a lot and then being many days / weeks / months with no rain at all. The combination of climate with mountainous terrain creates small streams that are mostly dry but in certain areas can accumulate stagnant water for several weeks. This is what I wanted to recreate in this stream. We have some more great examples in a larger scale in MD's as "Corsica" and "Med inspirations".

Oh Wow!~ This is seriously awesome! I've never seen such a great landscape around a hill town.

The town itself is fantastic, great work with the terraces, tramway, lotting and retaining walls.

But the part I've liked the most was the bottom half of the mosaic. Seriously, that belvedere overlooking the beach and the park around it is just... Waow, I have no words.

Great mosaic !
You also have nice MMP skills ! (And not only with the LE...) :)

One thing, you should change your beach mod to avoid that kine of transition with the water. (I've already seen that with the pyrenean beach mod, you should try one from marsh.)

Today the last OSITM update. I really enjoy this OSITM and hope you enjoyed too. :)
It's a special update because I made a short tutorial about how to make floating the kayacs/boat in the water game, answering Noah's question.

But first replies:

RickD, , A.Gates: Many thanks! :)
supremec: Thanks and welcome :)
Kelis: Thanks my friend!
Noah: I made a tutorial . It's quite easy. I think you know most of the steps of the tutorial but I made it for other people too:thumbsup:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tutorial: How to float kayacs in water game

Well, in SC4D we have this (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=2443.0), so I'll resum it and show my way with other tools.

1- Make a landmark eyecandy, with the kayak/boat/something else model with the SC4PIMX. Is easily done by dragging the model to the section of building-landmark eyecandy.

2- Make a lot with the "building" you've created.

3- Open the Lot with LE and and set the parameters (Lot Max, Lot min and threshold) as in the picture. The lot have to had "Base texture" to save (not as my picture). Then you can delete it.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi33.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fd98%2Falluch1982%2FEloaria%2520desde%2520update%252015%2FUpdate%252016%2FTutorial%2520Kaiak%2520LE%2520Lot_zpsjwhvgpm8.jpg&hash=73943c305252d36bff1b0e0a697e7bcc5cd84a12)

4- Add the water.

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi33.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fd98%2Falluch1982%2FEloaria%2520desde%2520update%252015%2FUpdate%252016%2FTutorial%2520Kaiak%2520LE%2520Water_zpswbwwilja.jpg&hash=ac51259ba734c6f812ed9047b3d541ca0f997a75)

5- Now we have the lot and we will delete the "Base texture". Open the Lot with the Ilive Reader093 and delate the base texture. In the property LotConfigPropertyLotObjectData, delete the 0x00000002 rep, wich correspods to Base Texture. There are as many LotConfigPropertyLotObjectData as base texture have your Lot. In the tutorial that I mentioned before there is a more detailed explanation.

6- Finally set the energy consumption to 0 with the LEProp or with Reader.

Hope this help

This town is really amazing, reminds me on some visits in Italy although the Gaudi-building locates Your region in Spain obviously. How You play with the LE is fantastic, and also Your MMP skills. This old viewing balcony is perfect integrated, i like this wonderful mix and match.
And thanks for the tutorial too, there will come a day i will have to build on water too as Waldey is an island. So i think this tutorial will be very useful to me.

Well, long time without updates. Where I live in the summer heat not invited to play a lot of time on the computer, but I have advanced in some parts that I'll show the next weeks if heat don't push me away from home ;D. Today it was raining and the temperature was nice enough to play a few hours and prepare some pictures.
Today only a few images from the lighthouse area, located 2 km from the city limits in a relatively well-preserved natural area despite its proximity to the city. Also an olive fields.

Very enjoyable, yes.

Did you use MMPs to make your olive orchard (it appears so to me)?  If so, you put a lot of work into it, and it shows.  Must have been a real pain to get them all lined up.  :)

Good work, Kergelen.  My favorite pic is the lighthouse close-up in 18.4, which shows that each rock and each blade of grass was meticulously placed.  The vista in 18.1 is also quite nice.

&apls

Besides the truly impeccable choices you've made in MMPs, perhaps the most impressive part of it all is the sheer number of them.  I've played around with a few of them recently and always find myself having to bulldoze and replop the lots and the MMPs several times because one car ends up rotating the wrong way.  I don't think I've ever tried to place that many of them, though.

I just discovered this MD, You must have spent MANY hours with the LE, but the result is very impressive to say the least...
I am curious about the seasonal flora in Your oldtown though (mainly the ones in the streets and roads), is it plopped or lotted together with the buildings?
Thanks for a spectacularly nice city, it is not everyone who master hills the way You do!

Hi! I'm here again ;D

First of all, if you still have not seen, I upload some MMP CP trees on the STEX.

MMP CP Palms (http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/27974-mmp-palms-cp-krg-selection/)
MMP Mediterreanean (http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/27973-mmp-mediterranean-cp-trees-krg-selection/)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FrankU, Framly, RickD, rooker, nbvc, Dantes, Sculmanator, art128, clemente, noah, weixc, jmyers : Many thanks to each one of you.

Shark7: Yes are MMP and now are available. I use the grid to line up them

Kelis: Gracias kelis. Espero que te siga gustando la parte de la ciudad.
Thanks Kelis. Hope you still enjoy the city side :)

metarvo: Thanks! I tried to apply my knowledge about nature. Sometimes I have to bulldoze the MMP too, but every time I know them better :)

b]Benoit[/b]: I'm glad you notice the white rocks to make the terraces. Thanks for the LOTs

Swesim: Many thanks! I think you are refering to the seasonal flora in the first oldtown, right? There are lotted . Yes the lotting spend a lot of time and I'm working on this region the last 2 years :)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today we will visit the beach side and some urban places I worked the last month. The curch pictures are inspired in a Catalan town, Sitges, altought is not a recreation, just an inspiration. Lately, I have more places in the city to show with some details still to finish so the next weaks hope to update more frequently.

art128, Sciurus, Girafe, Mr. Lin, nvbc, noah, rooker, benedict: Thanks for commenting. Glad you like it

nedalezz: Thanks. I tried to recreate the Mediterranean feeling, and after about a year looking for buildings, trees and lotting I am quite satisfied. :)

Dantes: Thanks. I like to have public and non-polluting transport in my cities. Althought I love to see cars too. ;D

Kelis: Thanks. Yes, Madrid tower fits good here, and I think some Madrid and Gonzalo buildings will build in the city. :)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today I come with more urban pictures. In this place of the city I wanted to recreate the boulevard, one of the most pleasant and characteristics sites of many Mediterranean cities (and European also). Most of the buildings are growable and only diagonal and some corner buildings are ploppable. I made quite growables Lots with the Iberiada set and for this reason I spend a lot of time doing this city. But now I have an almost complet set of R$,R$$,R$$$ and the city will fastly grow. Of course everything will not be iberiada set. ;D  In the future, if I get permission form the autor of the buildings I will upload this set ;)

I'm not entirely satisfied with the nocturnal images, because I thing there are too dark. I use NightFox Dark night mod, and in game looks good, but then I'm not convinced with the pictures. Someone could give me some advice to improve them? Do you use another night mod? ()what()

Awesome update  &apls  I really like the way you put your towns together and your lotting has paid off.

I use the same darknight mod as you and I agree that it can sometimes be a little too dark (night is supposed to be dark i guess). Of course it depends on what BATs you are using and how bright their creators made the lights. One thing that really helps (I just love it) is that mod that makes street lights brighter, the USL. I can't remember what that stands for but I know it's on the STEX somewhere.

Keep it up

There isn't any excuse why I haven't commented here before so please accept my humble apologies for lurking  &ops  :D

Seriously though I've been following you MD for quite a while and it's getting more impressive with every update. The way you manage to incorpate slopes into your cities is admirable and your attention to detail is outstanding! It's also nice to see the Iberia set put to good use and because of that I was wondering if you're familiar with  this set (http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/3826-berlin-set-4-downtown-residential/) from Ermoebel which imho would fit right in.

As for the nightshots, they look pretty decent on my monitor - not too dark nor bright - but you could always do some post processing for the heck of it.

In any case, keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to what else you've in store for us!

RickD: Thanks. Together convinced me that the night picture are quite good. :)

Noah: Yes, you're right. The different BATs also influence the lights. Some BATs simply don't have lights. I'm using the USL too :). Thanks for the recomendations

art128: Is this (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=848) building by prepo. Very useful, and I think will fit in your Japanesse region also. ;) Thanks.

Shulmanator: Thanks :)

Dantes: Thanks. You are invited to come to my region anytime. :D

I often could say that is very interesting and useful what are you doing ( especially the tree controller;  I like MMP but it's hard MMPing all the map /wrrd%&) but just lurk . I see those building in some MDs and will be very useful for me because w2w corner growable are very few. Thanks for the link :)

Update 20!!!

This update is a return to natural pictures. I shown some of those places some time ago but I always leave things I want to show in more detail and that I have improved. Today I have more time so I want to thanks some of the creators of the content I use in this pictures. Basically because these content is essential or very useful for this rural mediterranean landscape. Girafe for the Parasol Pines, OlS/Benoit for the Farm Lots and FrankU for his 1x1 ploppable seasonal fields (magnificent bacause the farms have a small and varied orchard). And of course c.p. for the olives!

I do. I hope that the scenes were as enjoyable for you to make as it is for me to look at and appreciate. There is attention to small details everywhere I look. Such as the inner court of the first picture with the dirt tracts and shore pine tree. I especially like the olive orchards and the stone walls.

I love the contrast between the last two updates. The city looks great, reminds me a bit of Madrid (except the in-avenue trams - a fantastic addition). And I like the fact that the olive groves/vineyards are built on hilly ground - gives it an authentic look.

Yes, CP's olive trees are winners, too bad they don't grow in my region. But I could never have used them as well as you did, anyway. And the way you work with heights, especially as seen in that last pic, is awesome!

Hello again,

I'm back after nearly two months without any update. A few weeks ago I had problems with my computer and I feared losing a part of my SC4 files. Luckily I was able to recover all the information and also the computer. I spent almost three weeks neither SC4D and SC4 and I really missed the game and the community. I realized that SC4 is more than just the game, is also the entire environment that surrounds it, such this wonderful community where we share our creations and hobby. It is a pleasure to follow the magnificent MDs out there, where there's always interesting stuff and things to learn. Also follow the innovations in the MOD and BAT topics, and the constant renewal of the game is a joy.
Now I am slowly returning to the SC4 world.

Additionally during this last month, Eloaria has completed a year in SC4D, something that I'm very proud. I wanted to prepare a special update but I couldn't because of the setbacks. I'll prepare it in the next weeks / months.

Thanks all for your support in the first year of Eloaria   &apls

Replies:

Jmyers: Thanks! Teraforming and landscaping are one of the things I love more in SC4, especially when nowadays we can do it close enough to the reality.
Girafe: You know how important is your flora for my landscapes! Thanks
Benedict: Thanks. Where I live there are so many vineyards on the hill so I tried to recreate an imaginary one.
Noah: Me too. I would like to live there:  ;D many thanks!
Shulmanator, rooker, Benoit, nas-t: Glad you like it. Many thanks! :)
Swordmaster: Thanks! I love to lanscaping on the slopes.

What a pretty sight . .  :satisfied:

The park is really well done, as is the transit system. Just love the palm trees lining the avenue wide-curves, job well done.

The only remark I'd like to make is to replace Glenni's roundabout BAT with the recently released Budapest BAT from Debussyman, imho that would be a more fitting building for such a prominent location.

Other than that it looks like a very pleasant place to live in. Lots of pools, too!  And congratulations with the one year anniversary. &dance

Update 23

Happy New year to all!!

This update is a summary mosaic of 2012. After a year building Merkine(still unfinished) this mosaic represents the main idea I wanted to show the past year. A city that incorporates the typical key elements of European-Mediterranean cities along the track that history has left the city. The city is divided into an old-town on a hill, very necessary to medieval cities close to the sea that suffered constant attacks by pirates and needed to defend themselves. We also found  areas of culture that prevailed in this place (the olives) that occupied the peninsula and around the city. The city's growth replaced the farmland areas and nowadays there are only two farms in a protected area. Finally we have some more modern medium density buildings, boulevards and avenues.
And after a lot of lotting now I have a pretty good selection of mediterranean building. In any case, never enough ;D

The 2012 mosaic. (The marina is under construction)

And what the future will bring?
Well,  although I like to take care of the details but now I'm focused on the regional development so the next updates we'll see railways, RHW, networks in general, modern city, industrial areas, suburbs,...maybe with less small details but triing to be as realistic as I can/know.
I'm fan of great regions views and the region development is one of the things I want to achieve with Eloaria, building also villages and natural landscapes.
Here some pictures about what I'm working.

23.2Not definitive pictures.
Railways and industrial areas. Here I can't find the base textures for the SFBT Railyards (anyone can say me the link??)

Post by: Swordmaster on January 01, 2013, 02:10:30 PM
Wow! I hope Jeroni sees this. This landscape reminds me a lot of my childhood holidays on Mallorca. I particularly enjoy the northern half of the map, where I'm really back in the day, walking along the olive and orange orchards. I remember we once stopped at a farm to drink fresh made orange juice. That was the best I ever tasted it. The road to the lighthouse would be awesome to travel in real life.

It may be totally the opposite of what you're planning, but I still hope that in the future you'll expand on that type of scenery, and create a bigger area of olive plantations. That's not to say your town isn't nice, it's just that the rural element is even better. I'm always a proponent of building to your strengths, and this is definitely yours.

Happy New Year!

Cheers
Willy

PS: The only criticism of the mosaic is that there's a no-road zot somewhere in the middle. If you don't want to retake the picture, I'd say use photoshop to correct it.

PS2: I see in your previews that you're using the elevated railway transition pieces and some very steep slopes. I know it's a pain to keep railways realistic, but I hope you'll try to find some workarounds for those points.

Hi Swordmaster. Thanks for the comment and especially for the criticism. Yes, the slope of the EL-Rail is too much. I know I have to rebuild the bridge but I just realize that when I make the picture. For the moment the city is only planned with the main networks.
About the first PS I don't understand what you mean ()what(). Sorry but what "zot" means?  My english is not the best :bomb: &ops

I'm glad the landscape remember Mallorca. My goal is to build a region so yes,  I'll make more olives and vine plantations near small towns. I have planned in my mind two towns: one near the sea surrounded by mountains where will grown olives and vineyards like Banyuls sur Mer (http://www.google.es/search?q=banyuls+sur+mer&hl=ca&tbo=d&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=vWjjUI6CGJK3hAfy8YHQBA&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAA&biw=1680&bih=892) or Cadaqués (http://www.google.es/search?q=cadaqu%C3%A9s&hl=ca&tbo=d&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=7mjjUL-cL6Oc0AW774GwCA&sqi=2&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAA&biw=1680&bih=892), and another near a river located in a small hill. I also want to recreate some Pyrenean places and for this reason my region have high mountains (more than 4000 metres). I love MMPing and natural landscaping and I know is my best SC4 skill, but sometimes I begin tired and need to try new things for me like RHW.

Don't worry, "zot" is not an English word in this case ;)   They are those icons that say "no road access" or "no jobs" above a lot. You can disable them temporarily by the cheatcode "tastyzots".

The city overall looks great, love the olive fields. :)

It's amazing how you built it on top of the mountain, so rugged.

Keep up the great work.

Wow, that mosaic is truly amazing!

One thing I specifically admire is the small transition from city blocks to homes that you have done in the top left of the city; I have been trying to find a way to make this type of transition for a long time now, but I have not been able to make it work to my liking.

I must ask, as well: assuming you used them as props, where did you find the Iberiada props in the directory in Lot Editor (still assuming you LEd your city blocks)? I have been trying to find them for my own lots for a while now but have not succeeded.  :)

Your views of the city are true art!  I like road network in addition to the finished parts of the city and your building work on and how you plan the railway line.  :)

I'm very curious how it goes.  :satisfied:

That mosaic is just breathtaking. I've seen so many of those areas in individual pictures and updates and it's very nice to see them all together and get a feel for the layout of the city. The new plans and areas are looking very nice--excellent transportation work. And I'm going to disagree with Willy on this: we all have our areas we're most talented at but this is something to do for fun and for me at least having fun means variety and learning new things. I'm sure we have a big variety of impressive things to look forward to in the future here.

A K-point for that fantastic mosaic!

PS, I think these are the textures you're looking for: http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2177 (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2177)

Wow.  what a great update!  I love people who put tons of detail into their cities and make them look realistic, but it always bums me out that those people almost never show lower zoom overviews of their cities.  this is exactly the kind of thing that I love to see.  Keep up the great work!

I upload the iberiada set re-lotted (http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/28399-iberiada-set-re-lotted/) to the STEX. Hope someone find it useful. Mediterranean style haven't a lot of buildings and I do my best to increase the growable Mediterranean cities. I'm sure most of you have already seen the set.

Teaser 24

Today only some teaser picture about what I'm working on. Trying to get a Mediterranean atmosphere also in the suburbs.
Currently I'm making some growable fields with olives that I hope to show in the next updates. Nothing impressive but essential for agricultural villages I'm planning. In addition, my small projects for the near future are more MMP (Pines,...),improve the Tree Replacement Mod I currenly use in my region, more growable Med houses, a natural landscape insipred in a mountain located in Catalonia, among other things. As always more projects than time :D

For those who are interested in the Mediterranean style I strongly recommended Namspopof's houses and his stuff in general (available in Toutsimcities.fr). And I think I finally found the water mod that fits perfectly what I want: Tropical mod by Gobias. I also have to thanks Madelsoft for all the RHW related stuff (light, signs, eurotextures,...)

Update 25

Today more suburbs and some other things. These suburbs are located in a a city tile close to the center of Merkine. There are a highway and a rail line to connect the area with the city center and with a industrial area. The suburbs are built on a site where they were olive fields and in the city limits we can see that fields. Also we see some old farms integrated in the suburbs.

I plan to use extensively the olive fields in futures towns and villages, and for this reason I create a small set of growable olive farms like the ones I MMPed some months ago ( Badsim post). To achieve the same landscape with growable fields that with MMP fields, at first I deleted the base texture with the reader, but doing this wasn't a good solution because we see the texture of the yellow farming zone. The satisfactory solution is to put a transparent texture ( Shadow assasin texture, that Badsim always is talking about) so the texture of the fields is the Terrain texture, and I have diferent textures depending on the Terrain and height.  ()stsfd()  I also reduce the "Occupant Size" of the props to 1,1,1 in order to be free to MMP the field depending of the situation. And finally, following FrankU's work, I made Ploppable fields to put where there is no funcional road/street ( mountains,...). To make the growable fields realistic there isn't Farmhouse building (usually in RL not every field have a building). I only plop one Farmhouse near the fields. And finally, following FrankU's work, I made Ploppable fields to put where there is no funcional road/street ( mountains,...)

In the future I plan to make vines, apple, and maybe more kind of transparent fields. That's all, I think.

Now the pictures :)

Title: Re: Eloaria ( 13 June - Merkine: Central Station)
Post by: Kergelen on June 13, 2013, 02:27:45 AM
Hi, I'm alive and Eloaria also :)

After more than 3 months without any update my region go to the Inactive section. I have CTD problems with NAM 31.1 and also got Prop-Pox and I was a little discouraged, knowing thet better days would come. Now I get Prop-pox again but I think I know the reason ( an instalation of the RTMT addon 3.60 plus desinstalation of Simgoober bus stops :bomb:) and I hope to solve this issue because RTMT is just essential for me since the first time I installed it.
And I have tried the NAM 31.2 some minutes and for the moment no CTD occurred.

Update 26

Well, I'm here again with a new update. Is a more classical update: The Central Station of Merkine ( train and bus, plus tramway and metro). At first I wanted to make a large station with 4 railways and I was quite satisfied. but now I feel something is not as realistic as I wanted and I thing the Train depot is too small and the slope of the reilways is too sudden but this is what I get so far. I'm not an expert of railways... Anyway I like the result of the the whole station and square.

Breath taking city and great effect shoots there at the end.
I really like the complexity of the transit layouts, it's very interesting.

Robin
Thanks! I like not square layouts in the outskirts of the city and that's how it turned out.

Those last few shots are some of the best I've ever seen. The rest of them are "just" awesome  $%Grinno$%   Fantastic mix and transitions urban to rural and back.
Check PM ;)
Cheers
Willy
Thanks! I thinks transitions between rural and urban is an important issue for a realistic region.

Beautiful update  &apls  It's a distinctly different style than I'm used to from you but just as excellent. Exciting modding/lotting too, btw
Indeed is a differnet style, and you can expect other styles ( mediterranean but different)  in the future because my goal is creating a region with all front I can develop.

Wow, Kergelen, your pictures are breathtaking! Those "windy" avenues and motorways goings between buildings, forests are great, as well as the usage of FA roads. Moreover I live the weather and autumn elements  :)
I also like windy avenues and and combine different elements in the same landscape. Thanks!

Pleasure to see you return to the active board! Once again you surprise me with an awesome selection of BATs for the station area. They all work great with the southern atmosphere. And I really like the OWR-3 avenue there as well; looks great with the palm trees. As for the rail slope, at least you already feel it's not right. That's a good sign ;)

Hope you can solve those pox problems too! (Are you sure it's the pox?)

Solved the prop-Pox (till the moment) in the main tile of the town not this I show today, and with the NAM 31.2 the game return to run smoothly. And it makes I can show pictures more frequently.  Today we return to the suburbs and transition to small rural areas. Not much comments today. Just pictures.

Too much for me!
There are a lot of such well-created and detailed things. Sidewalks and bikepaths on the backyards, bike parking lots, dirt trails and paths, NWM/SAM networks - that all create feel of looking at a real-life photos, where many things happen and each one has its purpose. Moreover FA stuff and smooth curves usage, combined with faboulous flora make those shot simply mindblowing!

Nothing more to add &apls

Five month since my last update...
I'm still playing the region and follow the forum although I have much less time than some months ago. RL have changed quite a lot since I began studying to be a teacher, but I don't let SC4 alone ;D
I'm still working on the rural area showed in the last teaser but is still not finished, due to some lotting and modding works realted to mediterranen stuff. Today I present an east part of the capital (Merkine) with high-rise residential areas, suburbs, tourist hotels and a natural delta reserve.
Hope you like and till the next update :)

Hi all!!! :) :bnn:

Firt of all, thanks for your comments RepublicMaster, Gugu3, tb7, sim_link, rambuckel, benedict, Schulmanator, Kisa Atsuko and Fasan.  :)

It has been almost eleven months since last update  ::). I'm still developing the region from time to time and I didn't forget about SC4Devotion and Eloaria. I do not have as much time as before but I'm here with a new update.

I did some mediterranean modding, like some new growable fields (vineyards, olives and apple crops) and I was also working on a Mediterranean Tree Controller modifiing Aerden Tree Controller by vortext. In many of the pictures you can see the results although I'm not satisfaied yet (too much poplars) . I know the best way to make a tree controller isn't moddyfing a previous one, but it's the easiest way I know according to my modding knowledge.

May you remember a teaser picture (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=13845.msg466198#msg466198) I posted a year and a half ago? Well, I finally finish that part of my region. In this area I tried to recreate a typical Mediterranean landscape. The landscape is the result of a typical farming of the medieval period, where the monks were often the owners of the land and they made vine and olive oil among other products. Nowadays we can still found vineyards and olives crops surrounding old monasteries. I also show some suburbs arround the fields and near a lake.

This is the 30th Eloaria Update!

Wow!  :o Those details!
What I really like in your shots, is the shape of a terrain - It's really visible, I mean: you can see hills, slopes, stream valleys. When I build and look at my landscapes, I often find it flat-looking - if I cover the ground with fields or trees.
Great work!

Hi  :)

I bring more new pictures, this time urban pictures from diferent places of Merkine city center.

Last days I've changed Paeng sidewalk mod to one from Gobias and I also downladed SCILT by c.p.. I'm really satisfied with the result but most of the pictures are taked some days ago when I had still using Paeng mod.

I also want to highlight the importance of MDs for the community. Some time ago I though the most important work for improving the game was modding and BATing work. Of course that are very important, but I realised about the importance of the MDing, because the MDs are the work to put all the things together and show the results to the community. MD's are the resum of all the work from a big amount of creators. Currently I think MD are also important to share ideas and ways to builds cities and landscapes what is also important to complement BATing and Modding works. Once again, thanks for all the people who contributes in some way to make SC4 what is nowadays  &apls It's a great thing that in our world and our economic system we can collaboratively build something.

I'm glad you noticed the terraced farms and of course you can steal that  :D. That's the main point of sharing pictures: learn from others and bring something to the community to improve our creations and ways to play. Thanks!
The seasonal pictures with the Med Tree controller aren't very impressive, mainly because most of the trees aren't seasonal. That's the only reason sometimes I'm not satisfied with the Mediterranean style and I think about starting with other style, to enjoy the seasonal trees.  ::)

Hi! :)

Ten months since last update...

After a long, long time I've finished the main marina of Merkine and its surroundings. Marina was in my first city and regions plans but I spend my time with another projects, so from the firsts plans to the end of the marina has passed about... three years ::). Today I bring some pictures and the desire to rebirth Eloaria after some months of inactivity.
Unfortunately, most Eloaria's pictures have been deleted by Imageshak :(   >:(. But I don't want my work to be lost so little by little I'm reuploading all pictures to photobucket.

When you posted your issues with SC4 were fixed, I hoped for a new update soon!

The marina is nicely done indeed, though I'm not fond of the entrance road on the left going off the 'bare' slope. Feel like there should be guard rails or something. You could whip up a custom lot for it and add 'water compatibility' property, which allows you to plop it on half land/half water tiles like these.

Anyway, just nitpicking really because it's great work all around. I love those little houses going up the hill in the first pic!  &apls

Well, I won't be original if I say it's great and cute and so on. But it is such, indeed. Lovely mediterran climate, my favourite part are the streets climbing on the hill. Both this narrow with small tenements around and the windy road in the forest ;) Everything fits excellent, well-made urban fabric :)

The Marina of Merkine is actually very accomplished!  &apls &apls &apls
The beach is beautiful indeed, and the development of the marina and the city is excellent.
I love the last 2 pictures which you very well manage the empty spaces, and carefully chosen buildings.

Glad you notice the combination of public spaces and selection of buildings

The marina and the cruise harbour look very good!! I like the artificial? beach and its surroundings.  &apls
I think the city totally looks like a little Barcelona. The palm lined avenues with modern architecture, and the promenade near the harbour remind me of Avinguda Diagonal and Passeig de Colom. Even the harbour shape is similar...

Thanks!! Yeah, some of my inspiration comes of course from Barcelona (Gran Via, etc) althought I don't want to seems like Barcelona, and I'm also inspired by Tarragona, Tossa, Sitges and other cities in previous updates :)

Wow Kergelen, I really love your style! You are able to create that mediterranean feeling that I'm trying to reach with my cities since I started playing.

&apls

You're right avout the guardrail and it's so easy to Lot it. Thanks vortext :)

Lovin' your style- mainly European with a hint of a tropical theme thrown in. Every picture was a pleasure to look at. The waterfronts are superbly done!

Very good update &apls I especially like the many small parks, the old town and the second-to-last picture with the overview, it really looks realistic, like something you would see on Google Earth. And please don't worry about only playing occasionally, after all, RL is more important.

A pleasure to see such great mediterranean cityscape! I love the attention you give to the inner courtyards behind the buildings, they really bring the city to life.

I love this update !  ;D
Everything is extremely successful, and I particularly like the contrast between the density the W2W building and the backyard gardens between them that allow linking cleverly.
The numerous park and squares of all sizes and shapes and many diagonal roads, further enhance the realism of the whole city.
It's excellent !  &apls &apls &apls

Fantastic update! As has been said the courtyards are great, especially considering the largely diagonal w2w surroundings! Really really cool!!  &apls

Also a pleasure to see regional developments, Merkine is shaping up quite nice!

Love it! As there are many roads, avenues railways in different orientation, with different angle with changing cross-sections, as there are winding embakements and facade lines, as there are bridges and viaducts that are elevated over the surrounding terrain, all the shapes and curves are winding, bending and dancing, making whole appearance very smooth and organic, with a little bit of controlled chaos!
