hey! just wondering if anyone would wanna create these freeway/highway interchanges. They look really cool and would add some variety to the existing interchanges.

The lofthouse:

The whirlpool:

And for anyone who likes a challenge - the braid:

That's a great guide!  Several of these interchanges can be (and have been) done with the RHW / MIS system.

I really like the concept of that "braid" interchange.  I'd like to see someone try that.  I would, but I don't have the game right now.

As far as making these into a "pre-cast / all-in-one" interchange - not possible.

That looks like all it is is an elevated roundabout

Mike, that's essentially what it is.  You can make an inverted version (with the roundabout below the highway) using the Avenue Roundabout pieces in the NAM.

The first two have already been done by McDuell, displayed in the Show Us Your Interchanges thread at ST.

I'm not exactly sure where in the thread they were posted, so I'll provide you with the link to the thread:

Happy hunting!

I cannot confirm that the braid one has been made yet, but perhaps someone may tackle it soon.

I think what he meant was, to make them as ploppable intersections for Maxis highways in the NAM, rather than ideas for a RHW intersection. I know that not a lot of people like maxis highway these days, but I do and one little thing that always annoys me is the wild disparity between the textures of RHW and maxis highway. What I would like to see as an update for RHW would be a texture replacement for both highway types, with the same look, allowing easier integration in cities.

EDIT: I neglected to mention. Re-textures for asphalt would be nice.

The Whirlpool and Lofthouse for the Maxis highway is a good idea, it should be possible, but would take a long time to make existent.

About the RHW and Maxis highway having the same look, at one time, that was the case with the last RHW and Mrtnrln's highway re-texture. Both projects have since gone through major changes.  Actually you could get his asphalt highway texture (with a shoulder) for the Maxis highway now, and at least thats closer to how the RHW is textured with the current one being asphalt by default.

As for the lofthouse, I could of sworn someone did the lofthouse style using the RHW, but it was huge, bigger then that picture due to the game's limitations.

Yeah I did that one a few times but gave on Maxis highways because they simply got to congested to easily.  I did save that link though to other interchanges and have been playing around with the RHW(and stopped playing the game) to try and recreate some to see what is and isn't possible with RHW.

Hi guys,
thanks for all the responses!
I also agree that maxis highways and rhw should have the same texture
Also thanks for the links
Hopefully the responses keep flowing!

And now for some more interchanges! I have found some more interchanges on another website. They are more like intersections but still look pretty good and could jazz up some of your existing intersections!

The Michigan Urban Diamond:

The contraflow left interchange:

Here is the website http://attap.umd.edu/UAID.php

(to get to the intersection, first select one of the four grades and then pick an intersection from the drop down box and click submit to bring up the intersection)

That first one can be built with existing content. You will just need to leave a tile between the highway and the frontage roads. Traffic will turn left at the middle intersections, though. A special puzzle piece (or set of puzzle pieces) would have to be created to eliminate the left turns at the center set of intersections.

Is it true what I have heard pertaining to the idea that no-one is making maxis highway interchanges anymore? I had a though which could be a good compromise for this though, a MIS style of draggable road made to take the textures and walls from maxis highway. I know this would be an immense amount of work to pull off, but I know that I would definitely use such a thing very, very often. There could, then be a revolution in maxis highways, draggable oneway highway halves, 4 lane (2 on each side) maxis highways, then there would be a system like RHW, but with maxis highways. An alternative to this, which would be the exact same would be to make a RHW "restyling mod" to make it look identical to maxis highway. Then, it would need puzzle pieces for tighter curves, s-bends, offramps etc, etc, etc.

You may have guessed it: I like maxis highway. I am a man of big ideas.

Though I would like to see these ideas oneday come to fruition, I realise the NAM and RHW teams have lots on their plate so I don't want to place any undue expectation on you. Perhaps I am the only person who would like this. Perhaps I ought to learn how to do it myself.

hi again
some good ideas there joelyboy
i probably could make that swamper(or Jan) but maybe someone would like to make the no left turn piece?
This could also be a guide so that people can come up with new ideas for there own interchanges/intersections. This could help u decide a design for that new freeway in your city.

hopefully i can continue to post pics into the future

That second one with those lane configurations is partially possible with RHW. I believe I posted a similar setup like that with the left exit ramps in the show us your intersection thread long before, but such stuff to make that happen fully is still under development, where as the first one, actually you know what, I don't know who came up with that, but having to go through three more lights to make a left, and all that way around to make a left is the stupidest design to exist. I mean I know there are more than one instances where MI has those types of intersections, but still those are the stupidest traffic designs ever, if anyone has gone to Disney world, you know what I mean, because they are no different with that concept of having to circle out of the way to go to the same place on their highways. Why do I say that? Its just they are a major waste of time, and gas. However, with OWR, that concept can still be done, just no lights on the T's and not as many lanes.

...I stand corrected, to myself.   :P

It seems McDuell did make a braided interchange with the RHW network, except he called it a "double diverged" interchange instead.  Here's a link to the post:
http://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=23&threadid=89089&STARTPAGE=46&FTVAR_FORUMVIEWTMP=Linear#1545752

...So there you have it.  All three of the interchange requests in your first post have already been done by McDuell.
