Hi

Was just wondering if anybody had every considered creating or have created a boat ramp for the game.

The only one I can recall is part of PEGs boardwalk series. I'm thinking more of public boat ramp, a simple lot with just a ramp and perhaps some larger parking spaces for vehicles and trailers. Just simple designs like these:-

Something you could plop anywhere along a waterway.

If anybody could help it will be greatly appreciated.

just what i need too, that would be fantastic

Are you wanting this for game water?  I've done one for my ponds although it's unreleased at present.

tooheys

Hi Shaun, yes I was thinking more of the game water, although I hope you get around to releasing your pond version.

Just so happens I was playing around with just that idea back in the day, though never finished, as it was a side project.

problem is I don't have my SC4 disc here, wouldn't have access to it for several months (it's at an old apartment in another town), but if someone else volunteers to test in game I could flesh it out, I like some of the features in that second pic you posted.  I might change out the shoreline part to a bulkhead like shown there.

oh, and any suggestions are welcome.

looks real good there Chris! Boat ramps and seawalls definitely are 2 things needed in-game!

Well, you could always flush it out my way, I'll give it a try, either as a lot or as a model/prop.

I'm happy to give it a test as well!  ;)
Sendona... Coming soon!

wow thats awesome chris  &apls

Chrisadams3997

cool, I've been working on a bulkhead version based on Dave's pic and mostly have it visually how I'd like it to look (except some extra texture work for contrast), here's how it's coming:

I've also got to rework the LOD's before I can think about exporting it, since this has to 'interact' with the terrain, it needs a pretty complex LOD.  Maybe this evening I'll be able to post a basic lot here.

Looks quite nice Chris. Looking forward to see it finished.

It's been raining here most the day, I haven't been able to do much else(I'd be working today otherwise ::)).

A quick question for anyone who might know or be able to check.  When building waterfront lots (waterfront kits/port factilities/etc.), what is the approximate elevation of the land tiles their being built on?  Right now I've got the model built based on an assumed 2 meters above sea level.  I've built a little model of the area in game as such(note, this is just for placement and modelling purposes, won't be in the render):

to give the basic desired look, but... if that assumption isn't right and it's usually somewhat closer to 0m, it'll leave far more underwater than shown here, as the prop will sit at the same elevation as the land tile it's placed on.

thanks for the comments guys and any answers here ;)

Chris,

The height of the Lot above sea level is dependent on which Constraint tiles you use in the Lot Editor. If you use both the Land and Water Constraints, it will be closer to sea level. If you just use the Land Constraint, you can have the Lot at various heights above sea level.

Chris, great work. If it wasn't for the time zone difference I'd have popped in sooner.

I'm afraid I'm useless when it comes to the technical side of the game, but I'd be more than happy to test the lot when it gets to that stage.

Thanks for putting the time into this, and thanks to those that have also provided some advice.

OMG Chris wow that is simply stunning and if you need any other folks to test the waters out let me know

Jan:  yea, I know ;).  It's built as an overhanging prop where the actual 'center' of the prop in LE is in the center of the middle tile, with tiles only on land, therefore the level it sits at is wholly dependent on the level of that tile.  What I was wondering is about how low those tiles usually are at the level ports/marinas/etc. are typically built so I could base the height of the bulkhead/dock on that.

OK, here's a basic lot(attached), just the boat ramp.  I need someone to put it in game, make sure it works and take some pics from different angles for me.  It's a 1x3 lot with the props overhanging, so to place, just level out three squares next to the shore at the height desired(preferably approximately between 1 and 3 meters above sea level) and plop it.
