Hmmm... things got a little quiet over in the "general offices" of JBSimio, Inc.  The education and city planning departments have stayed busy... but not so much here.  Time to change that a little bit.  How about a few new FAB ideas?

The upper building is a corner for orthogonal to wide FAR intersection.  It takes up roughly 2x2 tiles of road frontage... W2W on both fronts.  Most of the modeling is done for that one, it just needs textures.  The lower two are just shop fronts waiting to be rounded out.  The left side is 2 tiles wide (still some finishing touches to add to that one)... and the right side is a 1 tile wide frontage.

I'm in Michigan for Christmas (remembering what it's like to have subzero temperatures and all that fun stuff!) and then L.A. for New Year's... so there don't expect any quick work here.  I'm mostly trying to get some models roughed out while I have the ideas, I'll come back to the textures and finishing touches later when I get back home.  So for now, this is just a little peek to prove that I haven't completely abandoned the idea.  ;)

Merry Christmas to everyone!!! (in case I don't get back here before then)
JB

Great to hear from you Jon.
Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year!

Robin:  Thank you!  I'll be spending New Year's in Los Angeles and I have every reason to believe that it should be a happy one for sure!  :D

Managed to make a couple more corner buildings... or at least get a pretty good start on them anyway:

The first is another outside corner, just faced the opposite direction from the one above.  This one also only takes one tile along the FAR road instead of two.  The second is a 2x2 inside corner (the first I've made so far).  I obviously have to finish closing this one in, but I like the way it's coming so far.  The idea is for the orthoganal side to be more of a "side street" front... not quite as polished as the main street front.  Hence the apartment entry and bare spots (which will probably have advertisements of some sort) in the walls.

I'll probably have more in the next few days.  Texturing and other finishes will not happen until I get back home in January though.  ;)

In the meantime, I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

Merry Christmas Jon! Nice work on the FAR angles here. I was wondering when we might see a few of these. Up to your usual standards too. Enjoy the trip to LA too.

Huzzah! My pestering worked!  ::)

All kidding aside, these new FAR buildings looks excellent! These buildings would look good in any city.
One question; is it possible to make a park that conforms to the FAR, i.e. prepo's Triangle Park Set? Not trying to sound needy, but I'm sure there are many people who can find a use for them.

Enjoy the rest of your holiday, Jon, and we'll see you next year!

Matt:  Thank you!  It's a nice change to make several small buildings in one day... rather than one building that takes weeks!  :D

Baconrocky:  Thanks!  Merry Christmas and New Year's to you as well.

Dan:  I'll let you take the credit if you'd like to!  :D  Truth be told... my parents have a book of old postcards from towns around Calumet, Michigan (once a major city in the late 1800's thanks to the nearby copper mines) which had some very "inspirational" pictures.  I'll have to hold off on the park idea for now.  I can't remember what those even look like off hand... much less how they were made... definitely something I'll look into though.

Joan:  Thank you!

I don't necessarily plan to make all new buildings for this project... and I started to recycle a couple original Smalltown buildings today, but they're not quite ready to be seen yet.  In the meantine, I closed up all the new buildings I made over the last couple days, so here is a little update on those:

Not entirely sure about those porches and such on the back of the left hand building.  I've seen a lot of apartment entries done this way on older converted buildings, but it seems a bit bulky here.  I may remove it and save the idea for a two story building where it won't be so overwhelming.  The right hand building is basically finished.  I'll make the yellowish half a wood sided building which was there first... and that serves as my explanation for the unusual treatment to the rear entry there.  ;)

I'm very happy with how this one came out.  For a rather small building, it ended up having a lot of different things to look at... not sure how or why, but I'm glad it worked out that way!  I didn't add the roof junk to this one yet, but it won't change things too much.

Until next time...
JB

Hey JbSimio, Jack wilds here...

Trust that you had a good Christmas at home with a sufficient fill of snow.  Here it rained  %confuso of all things -melting most of what snow we had, snowing in blizzard fashion beginning only a hour west of here.  The weather folks said if the rain was snow we'd have over 12"... go figure  ::) weather in WI. Enough with the weather...

Really like the new downtown buildings as they have a period look when down-towns were the town center.  Are these also the proposed colors scheme... as it would brighten up a couple of my down-towns.  Its looking good, sorry if I don't have anything 'earth-shaking' to contribute beyond this  ;)

-in spite of all the plazas made, a typical downtown square with a clock or a period bandshell or city gardens, hing that would suit being placed in front of a court house or city hall or is more small town civic minded in design... the closest to what I have in mind are Pegs squares but not quit... if I was clearer the ice would be muddy...  ;D

Happiest and fulfilling of new years

Jack

What happened to these?

I am also curious on what is the status of these non-University projects! I am still eagerly waiting some of these! haha - Also the diagonal American-style W2W buildings you were experimenting with!

%confuso  *replaces a couple fuses and blows the dust off*

I got a little (or a lot) inspired while in London, but haven't had a whole lot of time since being home to do much with anything here.  I've been picking at this in small doses for a week or so now... and I finally thought I had enough to make it worth looking at:

No textures yet and still a long ways to go... but just a little teaser for the moment.  I'll be back much sooner and answer the long standing questions then.  ;)

hello there... long time no hear... trust that all is well and good with life over there in CA...

I'm here in WI hoping that the early frost/ freeze doesn't ruin my gardens... and waiting, watching for the EP1 to be released any day now  :satisfied:... but with the release of NAM 2011; it should keep me busy for awhile  :D

Wonderful work as always, Jon. What kind of building will it be? It could go nearly any direction at this point, from an apartment to a fancy office building. With a marquee over the door and a few adjustments to the entrance, maybe it could be a theatre. But you know, it might actually look good as an institute of higher learning. I know where you can get come really nice-looking brick commons. ;D

Your models are always a pleasure to see, and I thank you for sharing a sneak peek with us...
