Way 1. Roundabout seems to make more traffic jam than the standard intersection. Also great video Hal, I like the part with the landing/taking off plane.

Nice video Hal. 

As far as the intersections goes, sadly neither is a good choice because the traffic lights cause issues in #1, and in #2 the roundabout is way to small for the amount of traffic the interchange is handling.

BUT, since there are no real other options, #2 would be the best solution, for basically the reason Flatron stated

My thought on that intersection would be to use the roundabout, but also make an underpass for the north/south road as a bypass. That one seems like the busiest street, even though the other one is three lane each way.

Of course, a larger overview of the area would be helpful, as bypass roads would probably help more.

Maybe you should build sliplanes or even a cloverleaf for the ortho aves and a raised Ring of OWR's around the whole thing that connects the diagonals with it.

Hi guys, I'm with puzzled5543 on the 8-way intersection, but I'd make an overpass or underpass for the west/east avenue.

I've been working on this Y junction between a DDRHW-4 and a Diagonal RHW-4, I didn't really planned anything, just started building it yesterday step by step, going backwards and rebuilding when needed. Before I began I already knew it was not going to be a pretty one but as long as it was functional (with some weaving issues I think) wouldn't matter to me. I wanted to build an exit from both tunnels and enter the diagonal rhw directly, but since there are no Type B1 nor E1 inside exits I thought of making those 2 loops I plan to connect with AVE-4's when zoning in the future.

So here's the result, please, criticism and opinions are welcome, any suggestions on how to improve it?

Very nice intersections, solovinodelmal! The last one is the first of its genre. With the double Decker, I must say it's ingenious. Not a fan of double decker highway to be honest, but you made it looks great!

Later I tried tried it with the RHW 4.x, but never was quite happy with it because there still were some merged/shared lanes. Also, there weren't any type 3/4 diag over diag RHW4 pieces yet, so I still was a bit restricted.

With the new diagonal overpass pieces as well as the parallel MIS splitters coming with RHW5, I knew beforehand how I wanted to setup the interchange. Once the layout was done, it all was a question of perseverance because when having finished one branch it got kind of boring doing 3 more of them.

I presume you have tried the radial Y stack interchange pattern?

Here is a 3 stack intersection I just created. I'm starting to incorporate this style more and more into my cities. Basically I find a lot of the interchanges people are making just take too much space. I know its also a realism thing but MIS lanes taking 1 whole tile can mean stack interchanges in cities don't fit in as snugly as I would like. This style is heavily reliant on Marrast's tunnel lots. I find that they can be a nicer looking substitute then viaducts. This is a freeway with 2 terminating T intersections but I imagine you could make many variants based on this style.

Cool interchange    I've done a little bit of playing around with those Marrast pieces too, but at least in my most recent creation the M-TEL paths didn't actually connect to the viaduct ones. Are yours working?

Took a few hours but I finally retrofitted my first RHW/MHW junction!

Present day. The lack of a C/E connection being able to pass under has led to a major bottleneck.


Retrofit complete. Also widened the express lanes to 6.


The junction is still substandard, but given the space and design restrictions, I'd say the new design is standard enough

Hey thanks for the compliments. I haven't actually connected residents to that 3 stack intersection but that is a good idea to test. You can get viaduct puzzle pieces to connect to the Marrast pieces. The region i'm showing below is the best of my citymaking skills. It's an inner city suburb that has 3 North/South traffic corridors; a metroroad in the West, underground metro/subway and the RHW6>4 motorway which these images focus on. The inspiration came from Sydney's (my home city) suburbs along Sth Dowling Street/Eastern Distributor. The ED is a motorway which is a series of tunnels and trenches bypassing the inner city roads. I've attempted to create this here. In the South is a modern developed apartment suburb whereas the North is a Victorian era heritage suburb with high street shops and terrace housing.  If you look at the 3rd image below I've shown the morning traffic route on the Marrast pieces. You can find the one way road T intersections by the gap in the wall and sims do move across them between the 2 Marrast pieces as well as connecting into the RHW-4 at the SPUI intersection. I like this style because it's a grade separate motorway which imho looks a looks much nicer then viaducts and doesn't spoil the look of the city.

A couple other notes; you can get development on the Marrast Lots but sims can't access them to get to work so you need to build a street behind the lot for them to access (you can see this in the 3rd image). The other thing is that the avenue going East from the SPUI doesn't actually connect to the neigbouring city. If it does all the traffic gets stuck in an infinity loop, and if traffic leaving the motorway can loop back around it all feeds onto the surface street so, I also lose all traffic from the motorway. So I ended making it look like a neigbour connection but it doesn't function that way except to keep sims using the motorway.

It took a while, but I finally made a full basketweave interchange with RHW 5.0.

The new components help make it more realistic, that's for sure!

Few if any other things in Simcity have titilated my senses as much as that perfect basketweave. Not only is it realistic and functional, it is also a masterpiece of art. I know I'm a month behind the times but I have to praise you on that. I myself am trying to revv up on my hind wheels once more when it comes to city-building, and this is a demonstration of the extreme potential of the tools at our disposal. Although I am (or used to be) in the upper echelon when it comes to interchanges, I still feel like I have yet to tap the full power of the latest version of the RHW  .

I've got some new interchanges. This is a three-level stacked roundabout. They have a deserved bad reputation for connecting two freeways, but this is an arterial road, so it'll work very well for a future befroom community I have planned:
