Well it's finally here, update 18! I was originally going to post this when I got back from holiday last friday, but I've been having internet problems on and off since then, so I've never got the chance to post this update. But never mind, here it is now. Today's update is quite small with only 7 pics, but hopefully you'll like it just the same. This update is about the west side of the harbour, a small area of affluent housing and waterside office blocks situated between the City Centre and Downtown K.C.. But first the replies:

Truly beautiful shots. You use all of your custom content well. Seems like a very rich and successful city you have here. Would love to see a region shot soon though  keep it up!

Thanks for the kind words Warren. ;D ;D Unfortunately it may be a while before you see a region shot, because many parts of the city aren't complete yet, and also I'm currently rebuilding a lot of the city, so there are a lot of blank areas right now, and I don't really want to post a region shot until the area is finished. But hopefully you'll enjoy seeing the rest of K.C. until I post a region pic. :)

Great update again  &apls  I agree, a region view or map would be really nice to see

Hi Noah, thanks for your reply. ;D  Like I said it's going to be a while before Kanalka City will be ready for a region view, but there is still plenty more of the city to see until then. ;) ;)

Hmmm ... the Cecil Tower.

Now you made me hungry.  ::)

Well you should see Cecil Burger's latest promotion, Mount Bellyache. A 6-pound burger with everything on it, floating on a vast sea of fries, topped with a miniature Deltan Flag. Don't attempt to eat the whole thing on your own. &dd :D

Impressive new stuff. I like it!

Thanks! ;D ;D

Picture time...

(facing east) Starting just north of Westkey, we can see what makes up the majority of the West Side. Large Apartment blocks close to the water with the smaller, historical apartments set further back, with the skyline punctuated by office towers. Most of the property here is quite expensive, but still a bargain compared to some of the real estate Downtown. The building on the left with orange borders is the Britannic Hotel, which opened in 1937 and still operates under the same family today.

(facing east) Heading further north towards Downtown towering office buildings start to replace towering apartments dotted amongst the smaller, older buildings that still remain on the West Side. If you look carefully, you can still see a couple of the original 1920's tenements built to house the poor, that have survived over 150 years of demolition and gentrification at the hands of Palmacre and similar companies. The large white office building is the headquarters of the Burnley Development Company, a firm similar to Palmacre. While it's much smaller, it has still built a number of Kanalka City's Landmarks, like the Atlas Motors Centre and Ethnictown Palace. It is believed that the company has roots in numerous organized crime operations in the city particularly with the Casino operators. The smaller white office building to the right is the KSIM Building, one of the numerous Broadcasters based in K.C..

(facing west) Along Sheldon Avenue are many older office towers, some of which were the tallest in the West Side when they were built. In the centre of the pic is 260-262 Sheldon Avenue on the left, and 263 Sheldon Avenue on the right. They were built in 1925 and 1927 respectively. To the right, partially hidden by the U.S.O. Tower is the McFarlane Tower, originally built to house the McFarlane Insurance Company. Although the tower's original inhabitants have long since gone out of business, it's original name remains. The building was the tallest on the west side from its completion in 1931 until the completion of the Burnley Building in 1964.

(facing north) Further north we come to the Tilford Estates. Construction originally started in 1949 to create new accommodation for those who had lost their homes in the city centre and Downtown to the war. Kanalka City's strategic location and the fact that the city was home to the country's largest Naval Base (at the time) meant that the city was bombed heavily, and experienced heavy damage during the Alterra War. The Tilford Esates were built to replace lost housing, but their location right next to Downtown K.C. means that the rent for one of these apartments is astronomical. These days, the Tilford Estates are mansions inside Council Estates. Opposite the estates is the Andrew Gilbert Fashion Boutique, one of the city's finest locations for this season's must-haves.

(facing north) The rest of the estates. Today they are surrounded by shops and offices, most of which are mid-wealth firms looking for cheap office space near the city. To the east however, you can see the businesses there are of significantly higher wealth. To the bottom left of the pic you can see the edge of Junction 4 of the M169.

(facing east) To the north of the Tilford Estates, around the back of the Atlas Motors Centre is Beckley Terrace. Here, you can see, from left to right the apartments become more and more expensive. Many neighborhoods in K.C. follow this trend. As property values in most parts of the city slowly rise, the older apartments are torn down and newer, more expensive apartments are built in their place. Soon the older apartments will mostly be torn down and shiny residential midrises will most likely take their place.

(facing north) In the heart of the West Side is the Connerford Building. This building, iconic due to its extravagent nightlighting, is currently the Deltan Offices for the MNC Computer Company. MNC is one of the world's largest computer manufacturers, and have offices and industrial facilities all over the Empire and beyond. The building was completed in 2018.

That's it for this update, next time we'll be visiting the industrial areas of North Point, and taking a look at some of the city's largest and most iconic factories. See you then! ;D ;D

Update time! Today, we'll be moving away from the prosperous areas surrounding the harbour and moving north, into the gritty industrial area of North Point, an area where high-end houses and businesses are slowly encroaching on the factories and warehouses. Despite the city's main source of commerce and income lying in its tourism, corporate and organized crime sectors, Kanalka City is still the industrial capital of Barrierland, and has a thriving port and numerous industrial businesses, despite the relative decline of Manufacturing industries in Barrierland over the decades.

Many of the city's largest factories are found here, as well as some of the docks. On the eastern edge of North Point however, high-end properties are starting to spring up, and are slowly making their way westwards, thus slowly transforming North Point. Crime levels are high in the industrial areas, and many factories and businesses in this area are directly linked to the numerous organized crime syndicates in the city. Before we go there though, we have the replies:

Thanks Warren, I'm pleased you like my work with the NWM. In my opinion it's the most useful component of the NAM after the RHW. ;D And about the region shot, you may have a long wait, but it'll be worth it. ;)

Thanks! The reason there's so many large roads is because I was hoping that as the high-density areas developed, they would fill with traffic, but unfortunately there wasn't nearly as much automate as I thought there would be. I would use traffic generators on some of the emptier roads, but they tend to make SC4 pretty sluggish. &mmm Glad you liked it though. ;D ;D

Now, let's go to North Point...

(facing north) We start our tour on the southern edge of the area, near the Old Downtown. Here lies the old Kanalka City Nuclear Power Station. Built in 1957, it was one of the first in the country to be built, and from it's construction to it's decomission in 2043 it was the only one in Barrierland, and supplied power to the entire city as well as Hasbury Key. Today the entire westernmost quarter of Barrierland is powered by the Progress Passage Hydrosphere Power Plant. Although it's stood useless for nearly 40 years, there are no plans for demolition, and people are still seen occasionally entering and leaving the premises. There is speculation that the government is using it as some kind of secret testing facility, and a few poeple think that the De Santa family use it as a secret hideout. North of the plant you can see the old pumphouse that once supplied it with water.

(facing east) Nearby is the Blackliver Brewery. Built in 1890 as the company started to move its entire operation to Kanalka City, the brewery has been making the companies' fine whiskey ever since, and has also started to accommodate production for Blakcliver's Beer and Wine. It is one of North Point's largest factories, and one of the most famous, mainly because of the fact it makes booze. There are also tours around the Brewery that come with free samples which have proved incredibly popular to alcoholics all over the city.

(facing west) Just across the road from the Brewery is the North Point Docks, situated on the North Point Canal. The Canal was built in the mid-1880s to provide docks for the local factories in North Point, and during the early 20th Century as the main Port was built and later expanded, the smaller boats collected goods from these docks and took them to the larger ships at the main port, something which continues to this day. This helps reduce the amount of trucks on the road, and also helps keep the nearby industries in business, as well as stopping the canal from falling into disrepair.

(facing west) Washington Quay, in the South-East corner of North Point, is where the transition from industrial to residential and commercial started. While you can still see a couple of old apartment buildings which originally housed factory workers, most of the area has been regenerated. A new schol and playing field has been built, as well as ultramodern apartments by the Quays. The 35-Floor office tower to the left of the pic is part of the Washington Quay Complex, also known as 1-5 Washington Quay, and was built in 2020. It consists entirely of mid-wealth offices, and now stands as the tallest building in North Point. You can also see the studios for Channel 21, which were built for the channel in 1995. Also in the pic you can see the Northern Portal of the North Side Tunnel, which connects North Point with Downtown.

(facing north) Moving further north we now come back to the Canal. Here you can see the water treatment plant, which helps remove illegally dumped waste and bodies. The Martin and Martin Shoe Polish Factory on the other side of the canal was built in 1934, and shut down in 2030 after the firm went out of business. The Building stood vacant for a while, but in 2076 another local company bought the building and now use it as a storage building. The parking lot on the other side of the road is where another warehouse once stood.

(facing north) Further along the canal. Two docks still remain here, and are still in use by the local industrial businessses, despite the fact the number of docks and boats on the Canal have more than halved since the canal's construction. Standing out among the Grimy warehouses and factories is the Robust Robots R&D facility, which was built in 2004. The only logical reason a robotics company would move here is most likely because of the cheap real estate.

(facing east) The North Point Docks, where the Canal meets the sea. While the operator's cabins still remain, the docks are entirely automated, and have been since 2018. Next to the upper lock is Crunchy's Body Shop, one of the finest in the city. Do you want to transform you regular, boring car into a near-uncontrollable racing beast? Or maybe properly equip it for driving the streets of K.C. with bulletproof tyres, windows and doors, and why not add a spiked battering ram for "persuading" pedestrians to move out of the way? Crunchy's does all this and more, no questions asked. Thanks to protection provided by the De Santa family, all the criminals in the city can be garunteed a quality, discreet service.

(facing south) Here we have an overview of the majority of the North Point industrial areas, where many of the city's larger factories and warehouses can be found. The railway line in the pic links the North Point docks and the main port together, as well as connecting both of these to the mainline.

(facing north) Overlooking railyards and the M169 Motorway, and watcing over North Point and the docks is the gigantic Port Authority Building. The building is built on the site of the Quicksilver Motors factory, which shut down in 1984, and stood vacant until 2013, when the factory was demolished. In 2018 construction started on the P.A. Building, and was completed 5 years later. The building houses all departments of the Kanalka City Port Authority, as well as the Maritime Control Centre for the Port. The K.C.P.A. also manages infrastructure around North Point and the Port, including the Canal and its locks and drawbridges. The building is by far one of the largest in the city, and is an iconic structure nowadays.

(facing north) This is the Bursley Brewery. Bursley is a popular brand of beer in Deltania, and was founded in Kanalka City in 1894. The Brewery is one of the oldest surviving factories in the city, and looks much the same as it did when it was built, save for an extension to the back and a few minor changes to the facade.

(facing west) Moving now to the eastern parts of North Point. Here the redevelopment is in full swing, and numerous new apartments have already been built, and a new residential area in North Point has been established. Slowly but surely the nearby industrial buildings will be converted into apartments and shops, or demolished entirely. The large building in the Thornton-Fisher Laboratories, which has remained mainly due to the high-paying jobs it provides to the rich people who now inhabit the areas where hundreds of workers once lived in tiny apartments breaking their backs at the factories and the docks.

(facing south) Futher east many of the old factories and industrial offices have been converted into offices and boutiques, as well as a few malls and hotels. Most of the redevelopments took place between 2010 and 2040.

(facing north) One of the larger redevelopments in North Point is the Washington Gardens Apartment Complex. Built in the 2020's, these apartments have low rates compared to others of similar size, mainly due to the location in what was once an industrial area. Many people have taken up residence here before rents inevitably skyrocket, and the area becomes another business centre in the city.

(facing west) On the eastern edge of North Point, these industries will most likely be safe from the redevelopment, mainly due to the barrier created by the M169.

(facing north) To finish off, a nightshot of Morris Court, one of the many smaller roads in North Point. At the top of the pic you can see the Swartz Chemical Plant, built in 1945, and to the right is the old Schau Soft Drinks Factory. The factory ceased production in 1987, and instead became a warehouse for the company. In 2050 the building was abandoned entirely, and has stood vacant, deteriorating slowly.

Well that's it for this update, this time next week we'll be visiting the Old Port, see you then! ;D ;D

Very intersting to see this area and the change it is undergoing. And a nuclear power plant / secret testing facility next to the commercial highrises?  $%Grinno$% I also wouldn't want to be responsible for cleaning the pipes in the water treatment facility. I can imagine that some of the larger objects being dumped in the water get stuck frequently.  ::)

Here comes Update 20! It's a day late due to internet problems I've been having, but better late than never. Today we're going to the Old Port, which as its name suggests is the oldest part of the Port of Kanalka City. While today it only sees a few ships a day, in the 20th Century the port was packed with ships and their cargo, and was a giant hive of activity. While its heyday is long gone, the port still employs many people and many local businesses still rely on it, and gangs still use the docks to ship drugs, guns and narcotics into the city. The old port was constructed shortly after the start of the 20th Century, and was expanded to the west in the form of the new port in the second half of the 20th Century. Firstly, the replies:

Hey Raphael, thanks for the reply. :) Yeah I agree that a nuclear power station seems strange right in the middle of a major city, but it was built before the dangers of radiation and nuclear waste were fully understood and taken seriously. ;) And yes, there are a lot of "objects" that tend to jam the treatment plant, most of which dumped by gangs and organized crime syndicates.

I agree, there isn't enough industry in MD's, but don't worry there's plenty more industry in Kanalka City to see yet. Hopefully you'll enjoy today's update. :) :)

Great update.

The building next to the freight station in picture 9, reminds me of the office building that use to part of the freight station close by the Copenhagen Central Station. The building still there. Freight station moved out of the center of town.

Thanks! I thought the P.A. Building looked best overlooking the downtown and the industrial area, in a way marking the gateway between the two areas. :)

Now, onto the pics:

(facing east) We start at the Eastern Railyard, where most of the trains heading to the port are loaded and unloaded. Unused carriages and shunting engines are also kept here. Surrounding the railyard are numerous factories and warehouses, taking advantage of being right next to the port.

(facing east) Nearby are the Head Offices for the port. The entire port is managed from here, and the people here report directly to the K.C.P.A.. (Kanalka City Port Authority) The Port Worker's Union is also located in this building.

(facing south) Zooming out, the Old Docks come into view. Even today ships arrive here daily, mainly owned by low-cost shipping companies that provide shipping services at a fraction of the cost by using refurbished cargo ships, some over a century old, but retrofitted with Hydroenergy Cells, making them completely self-sustaining. The use of older, non-containerised ships means that numerous workers are needed at the port, thus keeping many of the city's poorer inhabitants employed.

(facing east) Piers 2, 3 and 4 further down the docks. Normally the docks aren't this busy, but the Student Parties have come early this year in K.C. for some reason, and so the spike in demand for drugs has come weeks before normal. Crime Bosses have ordered their ships into drug trafficking service earlier than usual, and so the Old Port is unusually busy.

(facing north) Behind the piers are where most of the unused trains are kept, in the Western Railyard. Criminal organizations also keep illegal cargo in certain carriages when their safehouses are full or have been compromised.

(facing west) Further north of the port is Portside Station. The subway station was built in 1956 to provide better transport for those who worked in and around the port. The building aboveground collapsed in on itself in a fire in 1997. Due to tight budget restrictions at the time, the gaping hole was simply covered in glass. This choice is well appreciated today, as natural light now pours onto the platforms below. The railway station next to it was built on the mainline in 1978, but only half of the scheduled trains per day stop at this station, which is only a minor destination. The station complex is built right next to Junction 6 of the M169, and the level crossing is known to cause major delays at rush hour. However, until funding is allocated (And the right NAM peices come out) it'll remain a congestion blackspot.

(facing east) Portside Roundabout connects the roads adjacent to the docks, Portside Drive (which runs parallel with K.C.'s northen docks) and Junction 5 of the M169. This allows trucks heading northbound on the M169 towards the docks to leave the motorway before Junction 7, thus reducing congestion around the North Point area.

(facing west) Further along Portside Road is the Portside-Ring Road Junction. This helps reduce the number of vehicles on Portside Drive. The junction also allows vehicles travelling eastbound on the Ring Road to leave it before it merges with the M169 collector-express system. (Which we'll look at soon enough in a later update) The Kanalka City Western Ring Road was constructed in phases between 1969 and 1994. It starts at Junction 5 of the M169, and continues counter-clockwise and terminates at Junction 7 of the M105 Surrounding the junction are numerous industrial businesses.

(facing south) Directly west of the Old Port Complex is Creighton Dock. Built in the early 1940's by the Creighton Shipping Company, today the dock is owned and run by Santos Shipping, a K.C.based company that's owned by the De Santa Crime Family. Ownership of this dock means that the family can import all sorts of weapons and narcotics to a city already choking to death on drugs and violence. While the dock is not part of the Old Port Complex, it's still considered part of the Old Port due to the fact it's right next to it, and was built only a few years afterwards.

(facing north) Just south of the Port, on the other side of the Ring Road is the industrial area of Kempton Yards. This area was once home to numerous factories and warehouses, and while some remain, today the area is mostly light manufacturing and high-tech industries. The large building next to the Ring Road is a distribution warehouse for G.E.A.R. Robotics, a large company that manufactures numerous robot models, mostly for military use. Across the street is a Pharmaceutical Research Lab.

(facing north) Seeing as there wasn't really anything interesting to take a night pic of, here's a couple of similar-looking ships unloading very different cargo. The one on the left has just finished loading up on Electronic Components, to be shipped all over the country. The one on the right, however, has just arrived from a foreign country, and is loaded with Cannabis. (Marajuana) While most of it is bound for Kanalka City University, some will be dsitributed around the poorer parts of the city, and some will even be sent to the Naval Base.

Well that's it for this update, hope you enjoyed it! Next time we'll be going down Sunset Avenue, and taking a look some of the famous landmarks located on this iconic street. Now I'll say this update will be posted this time next week, but as I've already mentioned my internet has been playing up, so it may end up being slightly late, so stay tuned! ;D ;D
