Problem with transparencies using 3ds Max 2010
« on: April 27, 2011, 04:28:05 AM »
Hi all!

Recently I started using 3ds max 2010 (and Bat4Max) for batting and have to say it has a lot of new features and a wonderful V-Ray render, however I'm having problems with transparencies simulating glass in windows. First I started using Standard Materials with this configuration:

But I was told in my Bat creations threat to use Arch. & Design Materials. It is indeed the best option for getting realistic results with refraction, translucence and shininess.

(Sorry for "de" mistakes!)
That's was the first render and an standard material with the config above was used. As you can see the interior floor has a very multicoloured texture so I didn't understand why it wasn't seen thorugh the "glass". I decided to make a render from a near point and got this:

Light goes through the windows! So I thought the problem may be with seeing the inner floor material texture through the windows and that may there be an option to allow this when rendering.

Does anyone know what's going on here?
Thanks :)

I used no <material texture, jpgs or pngs> if you mean that. I have made an image-compound so you can see what I mean and also the material configuration using this time an architectural material. 1#- render from the area marked in 2#, where the ground-texture can be seen. 3# the inner ground texture (a picaso painting  ::) ) and 4# the configuration of the architectural material.

Hope this helps. Thank you very much

At first to allow Arch&design materials click on day otpion it will set up mental ray and allow you to use correct materials.

Moreover up to architectural button you have a small icon, check it too

Go to a 80 / 90 transparency or more

the aim for your job is maybe not to see inside but to reflect what we have outside.

It's a different point of view, let you decide but try both  ;)

Thank you very much. I did get an optimal result by trying this. I will post a preview as soon as I can! I was confounding Architectural Materials with Arch. & Design Materials!

Wow, that made me really think about!
спасибо!
