@FrankU:
I think he mend the amount to go until guessing must stop, which means that everyone who hasn't made a guess yet, can't do so anymore.

Every once in a while, you look at something you set in motion and...

It's pretty apparent I confused a few folks somewhere along the line.  What I'd intended to do with the Quarter-Million Page Views Contest was cut the guessing off at 5,000 page views out from that mark, as it really wouldn't be much of a contest if someone could wait right up until the 249,997th view and then post a guess...

...today, oh, about 45 seconds from now...

...while others had guessed ten days in advance.  When I started seeing guesses like Bob's (bob56), I realized I'd confused folks somewhere along the line.

Anyway, I'm accepting John's (Darmok) second try as the last guess, so now it's wait and see time.  Oh, what the heck, we'll throw Arthur's (art128) in, too.  No more, though- guessing is officially closed.

Here's an updated table showing about how many page views per hour between now (245,330 views) and 250,000 it would take for the guesser to be correct.

...posting as I go- I'll be working on this table for the next little bit...

These numbers are rounded, and cannot be considered precisely accurate (i.e.: if they were elevation data, you wouldn't want to file a flightplan based on them).  3RR has run, over the past 10 days or so, at anywhere between 25 and 40 page views per hour, on average.  We have hit 100+ page views per hour several times during that period.  I think most everyone, except poor Joe and maybe our friend CCFC, still has a shot.

Hey David, I want to say that your work with the SAM textures is just impressive my friend, you're doing an excellent Job !  &apls
As for the 250k, I think I will be March 3, 10:00 AST.  ;)

Arthur. &apls

EDITArthur, I've accepted yours as the last guess.  Thanks, everyone, for taking 3RR to this milestone.  -DE

Hi, David ... I think my guess on the previous page was overlooked:

David, these curves are simply magnificant! These will look terrific in my new region, since I am using both SAM-3 and -4 streets.

I may as well throw my hat in the ring for the contest: 2 March 2009 at 5:00 p.m. AST

Many thanks ... can't wait to see more stuff!

oooohhh.... you tempt me, sir, you tempt me muchy.

if you want I can make that table automatic, as in it will update its-self. just takes input from a txt file with lines of $nick _SEPARATOR_ $timestamp (or I could try date_from_string conversion  ;) )

infact, I would have come with a working example, but my server is down for maintenance :( It went down in the middle of me doing something too  :angrymore: heheh. teaches me to save regularly tho ;)

oh and this place would be NOTHING without your awesomeness... why you thanking us? we just turn up to gawk ;D

EDIT: /me goes and takes a look at it

(and for the 250K contest, my guess is the 3rd March at 12:00 AST)
(I wrote it yesterday....)

EDITIt was the italics, my friend- honest!  Fixed.  -DE

Cool Joe, I can just keep on hitting the refresh rate on my browser and it updates to the millisecond.  ;)

Larry (debutterfly)

Edit: David, you may want to change my guess from American to Universal thus it would be 17:15:35 AST

EDITHeh, Larry- that's pretty funny.  Even though I treated it like you intended: 5:15 p.m., in positioning your guess on and calculating for the chart, I'd clearly made it 5:15 a.m.  As one of my drill sergeants way back at Fort Knox, Kentucky used to have to remind me with tedious frequency, "That's your other left, Private." -DE

I have a request for rural roads:
-pieces with one line dashed and one solid as well as dashed only and double line
-rural road pieces for FAR with dashes

I think its only about 3 days until 250000... :)
not a guess, i knew guesses were over
Leoland coming Spring 2009

deathtopumpkins

I am really confused now...  ??? I swear when I looked at this before I went to bed last night it was right up near the 250k mark... now we're a good 4000 away... that's why I made an early guess, I could have sworn it was only a few hundred away...  ()what()

And LE0, there are rural road pieces for the FAR/R...  ;)

First off, I have to say Thank you for correcting the Maxis turns! All your other related road work is appreciated, but the Maxis turns, which are the most used, no one thought possible to visually correct the angles, you proved them wrong. This makes a major change. I second Leo's request with the solid line on side side, and dashed on the other.

So the ballots are closed...now all we do is wait! Who will be the winner?

Ahhh, dtp. I think you made a common mistake. The view count was nearing 245000, not 250000. It's the sort of thing that catches me out all the time...  ;)

CCFC

I'm most likely out, I was testing a formula from what I knew about the page guesses and I guess it might not be very accurate. But if I loose I'm going to build on a map that says "3RR" which I will post up here tomorrow if I loose. Yes, it will test the STR and all the other good stuff being produced here. I will look into making a downloable map for everyone that says 3RR to celebrate. Now building on it will be a challenge, since there is many ways to build the map.

A few more pics of Marisa's (girlfromverona) Little Cold SW quad to show off the Rural Road NAM plugin a bit.

Here's the western side of the quad.

The large square areas between the roads are the one mile square survey sections (640 acres/259 hectares) common in 3RR, and the upper midwest US and Canada.  Two or three farms with associated fields per section will be all that's in most of the quad, along with the town of Lakeview.  Here's the 3RR Atlas [linkie] page.

A closer in shot of the creeks that drain into Little Cold lake.  Minor and unimproved roads cross small streams and creeks almost exclusively by culvert in rural 3RR.

Marisa will be developing Lakeview, population a couple hundred folks, here.

I can't picture the game without wide radius curves any more.  Of things I've done lately that I'm inordinately proud of, the clear winner is the dashed line rural roads.

That's a SAM Set-7 asphalt minor road using the new 45 degree wide radius curve you first saw here a few days ago.

Finally, just eye candy.  I really, really like bridges like this.  Simple, straightforward, and representative of their counterparts in the real world almost to a fault.

No passing on that bridge, now.

Later.

Wow, David!

With all the great custom content you've been producing lately, it was so easy to get lost in the thrill of the creation. But now, to see it used, and used in exactly the ways for which it was created, it gives everything a whole new level of...incredible-ness? If that's a word...

However you say it, though--Marisa has got a lucky task ahead of her, working in that quad!

Great stuff, David! Great stuff!

Looks fantastic David
Shows how much your work has added to this game!

P.S. Did you get my PM?

EDITI'm ashamed again (Joe (JoeST) caught me on the same thing earlier today).  Yes, my friend- I received it, and then set it aside thinking I'd respond right after I finished this or that, and then promptly forgot about it.  I wind up with between five and ten PMs in my box every day- I love hearing from folks, and I actually am pretty good about responding.  But I do drop the ball on occasion- look for a response during the day tomorrow, along with further apology.  Thanks, too, for noting this here in 3RR- if anyone else is wondering what happened to their PM to me over the last little bit, please follow up.  I'll do better, honest. -DE

Wow! Lucky, lucky Marisa! There are some very cute spots in that quad that look like a lot of fun to play, and those rural roads are so realistic! They add to everything even more. I do have one question for when I get my hands on them: Do they keep the line dashed even when the road is going through a town? Thanks, and awesome work on that quad!

Very cool to see you applying all the amazing developments you've been making here in your own region!
