Turn Three

Population: 350
GDP: $1,400,000 ($4,000 per person annually)
Education Level: Lowest

As you can see from the pictures above, the population has nearly doubled in Rawa'a in the past 6 months as more people make their permanent homes in the capital city. King Edward Ezamsi gave permission for people to reside to the west of Edward Ezamsi Street, and even gave the approval to Nick Terrell to acquire a 4x4 plot of land just north of the Royal Residence.

Terrell was not the only one to invest in Dunyan real estate – trader Michael Areameder bought the piece of land his home is located on, and as a reward for buying the land, King Edward decided to gift him the home situated on his land, saving him from having to pay rent on the house, which he now owns.

The Khassem Inn also opened for business. The land, and the inn constructed on it, are owned by Chris Khassem. The inn features 12 basic rooms and a restaurant/pub that opens every day of the week from 6PM onwards.

The government has also given the approval for further paving of roads, with focus being on extending Drift Lane eastward and Corner Street north. There has also been preliminary approval for the construction of a small school to the east of town, possibly alongside the new extension of Drift Lane.

Chapter Eighteen

The fires were nothing more than a flicker now – although they had subsided, they had still gotten the best out of the Town Hall and Ray Black's offices. More importantly, they had taken the life of Brett Bion, the young man that worked in the office. Ray lay crouched on the floor, holding his lifeless body, weeping uncontrollably. The townsfolk had begun to gather around their leader, hoping to ease him and comfort as he got up and began carrying the orphan down Cross Street. This was a black day in Wildbank.

-----------------------------

Tiberius had stormed into Ray's home late in the evening and told him that the radar sensor was picking up fast moving objects that were racing towards Wildbank. They both feared the worst; ever since they had started mining the Starium, they had been preparing for an attack because, inevitably, word was going to get out. They were as prepared as they could be – they had developed five AA-Ones, Tiberius' heavy artillery vehicle comprised of armor made of Starium, which was almost impenetrable. Three of the AA-Ones were stationed alongside the northwest watch post, and Tiberius had already informed them to take their positions.

Sheriff Turner Tower had gathered up his troops, and was waiting on the command from Ray to start heading over to the watch post, which was equipped with missiles that were capable of packing quite a punch. The objects were coming towards Wildbank were not many, but they were moving very fast. So fast, in fact, that Tiberius starting thinking they were flying objects.

It didn't take long for the men to reach the watch post, but Ray had stayed behind and called back the remaining two AA-Ones from the Starium mine to help protect the town if the first defenses were breached. Tiberius and Sheriff Tower had both headed up to the watch post and were setting up their defenses there – the initial scouting reports suggested Tiberius was right; at least two of the objects were air motors, and only two forces had such technology: the Earthen Alliance, or the Haven Republic. Ray had a feeling it was the latter.

Whoever was coming at them had not done their homework – it was as if they did not know about the watch post or the weaponry Wildbank and its people possessed. As they advanced closer and closer to the northwest watch post, Tiberius gave the signal to fire the first batch of missiles. The AA-Ones were kept out of the first round, however; he wanted to save them for whatever was coming at them from the air. As the approaching motorcade got into firing distance, the missiles fired directly into them, blowing up the ground below them and bringing back memories of the successful battle they had against Jim Benstrike and his men. This time, however, when the dust settled, there was still movement; a lot of it.

Tiberius again gave the signal for the second round of missiles to fire, and just like the first time, they hit their targets dead on, but again, out of the dust came the invaders. The missiles had dealt some blows, but they were not strong enough to stop them. As they got closer, they saw two jetcopters flying towards. Starting to get nervous, Tiberius ordered his men to bunker up and prepare for a gun fight, and gave the go ahead for the AA-Ones to launch their missiles at the jetcopters. If they were able to get past the watch post, the jetcopters would need less than a minute to get to Wildbank, were they could lay waste on the town. They had to be stopped.

The AA-One missiles screeched into their air and headed directly to their targets. At the same time, heavy gunfire started being fired at the watch post. The invaders had gotten close enough to use their guns, and bullets were ringing everywhere. As Tiberius took a closer look, he noticed what he had feared all along: on the side of each of those armored vehicles lay the emblem of the Haven Republic.

As the AA-One missiles hit their flying target, Tiberius looked on desperately, trying to see if they were successful; he was half right. One of the jetcopters flew straight down, crashing into the hard desert ground beneath it – the other, however, zoomed past the watch post and headed straight to Wildbank. He scrambled to inform Ray that their defenses had been breached, and was eased slightly when Ray told him he had brought back the AA-Ones that were stationed at the mine. He brought his focus to the matter at hand, the gun fight that was ensuing in front of him.

Sheriff Turner had made sure his troops were fortified and heavily armed, and it was paying off. While the Republic troops were firing at will, they were not getting through to any of the defending soldiers, who were bunked up in the watch post and behind their vehicles. However, the Republic troops did not have that luxury, and the longer the battle lasted, the more of their troops started falling. Seeing that, the Sheriff asked Tiberius for one final round of missiles – the last batch available at the watch post. Tiberius nodded, and gave the signal.

The last hit took the fight out of the Republic soldiers – clearly, they were not expecting a fight of this proportion, and definitely were not expecting one they were going to lose. They had no idea of the type of weaponry that Wildbank possessed, or its will to defend itself. Their retreat was hasty and without warning as they loaded back into their vehicles and drove off as quickly as their tires could take them. Tiberius gave them the order to drive back into town, keeping a few soldiers and the AA-Ones stationed at the watch post.

The jetcopter was shot down to the north of Ray's farms, but not before it had let off two of its own missiles, specifically targeting the center of town, Ray's offices and the Town Hall. Brett Bion was trying to gather up Ray's important documents and take them away to hide them, but he was too late leaving the premises. The missile hit the building head on, exploding it into a ball of flames and igniting a fire that scorched on for over an hour.

When it was all said and done, Wildbank had suffered the death of six of its young men, including Brett. It defended itself with pride and honor, but it came at a cost. The Haven Republic had been fought back and defeated, and surely it would be downplayed in Janneh City to avoid humiliation, but the tears of Wildbank would not be washed away easily.

The fires that raged after the missiles hit.

The construction afterwards.

Turn Four

Population: 520
GDP: $2,080,000 ($4,000 per person annually)
Education Level: Lowest
Government Projects: Rawa'a Primary School ; Police Station

A lot of thing happening this turn. The government has taken the initiative to pave Corner Street and parts of Drift Lane with the promise it will continue to do so in the next few months. It hopes to have Drift Lane paved up to the new Rawa'a Primary School, which set to be completed after 6 months. On the other side of Madrasa Street, work on the new police station has started, set to be complete in 1 years time. The government has budgeted the project for $500,000 – once these 2 projects are completed, the living standard of Rawa'a will rise, making it a more desirable place to live.

Hank Garvei has purchased the land which he was renting from the government for $1,000. The 1x1 plot will be the site of his new electronics showroom. Currently, his stand is still on the land, but in 6 months, it will be relocated to make room for his new showroom. He has taken out a loan from the Bank of Dunya to finance the construction project, believed to cost about $50,000. The loan will extend for 12.5 years, and will have a 20% fixed interest rate on it.

Salford Construction Company, a privately owned construction company owned by Terrence Salford, has bought land on Main Street for $2,000  and is currently developing its new offices. Once completed, Salford Construction will be the first construction company operating in Rawa'a. On the otherside of the Royal Residence, a company called Hi-Fashion also bought a 1x2 plot and is constructing a showroom for garments and accessories. Both projects will be ready 6 months from now.

Participants: A new profession is available – Construction. Read about in the information thread. Also, I have put up some new rules on players wanting to own companies that are not in their chosen profession. That is also up in the information thread!

Turn Five

Population: 630
GDP: $2,520,000 ($4,000 per person annually)
Education Level: Lowest
Government Projects: Police Station

As the town has grown and expanded, so has the number of people opening businesses. As you can see from the pictures above, Hank Garvei has finished construction on his showroom and opened up Garvei Electronics. Right next to him, Ahmad Yamini bought the piece of land located at 10 Main Street and will be opening up Citi-Furniture in 6 months.

On the other side of town, Hi-Fashion, owned by Warren Franks, has opened up for business. Their plans for expansion, however, will have to run through the new Customs Inspector at the  Rawa'a Pier. He has invested in real estate, acquiring 1002 Main Street for $12,000. Just north of Hi-Fashion is Seaside Restaurant, owned by Jim Franks, and on the corner of Trait Lane and Jalmi Lane, the residence of Chris Khassem, owner of the Khassem Inn is under construction. The land, which cost $2,000, is 200 sq. meters, and his home will cost $80,000 upon completion. Chris Khassem is currently the richest person in Rawa'a.

Elsewhere, the Rawa'a Primary School has opened its doors for business. The initial enrollment was 74 students through all grades. The project, which cost the Dunyan government, cost $700,000 and was publicly opened by King Edward Ezamsi. Across Madrasa Street, which was recently paved, is the Rawa'a Police Station #1, scheduled to open in 6 months. The small station set the government back $500,000.

The expansion of the town has led to further paving of roads by the government, and they recently opened up a new road called First Street, between Corner and Madrasa Streets.

Turn Six

Population: 760
GDP: $3,040,000 ($4,000 per person annually)
Education Level: Lowest
Government Projects: Housing Projects

The government has certainly put in a lot of work these past 6 months, expanding the road infrastructure in Rawa'a and officially opening up the Rawa'a Police Station #1. On Main Street, the government has contracted Salford Construction to develop a housing project costing $225,000, or $75,000 per residence. The government plans to rent each residence out for $5,000 annually, or $2,500 per 6 months (or turn.) The government has always has plans to develop land around the Bank of Dunya as well, and has developed some residences for its employees (including Martin, Meade, and Terrell) near the police station. The shacks on the land will be destroyed, but it is unclear what the government plans to develop in their place.

Development in and around central Rawa'a has continued, with 2 new businesses beginning construction on their properties. The BuyPlus Supermarket, owned by Hashem Saidi, will be the largest showroom in the city when it is completed in 6 months. Saidi will be in direct competition with Areameder and Garvei, both of who operate stalls that sell the Life Neccessity products that BuyPlus Supermarket will sell. The other business opening up on Corner Street is Dillon Hardware, owned by Brian Dillon. The 200 square meter showroom will sell exactly what it advertises: hardware products.

Clarence Fruit Farms has also opened for business northwest of the town, owned by Henry Clarence. The 4,200 square meter plot will harvest fruits and sell to the local market, slightly reducing imports. Locally grown products cost less than imported products, the news will be welcomed by residents of Rawa'a.

On the southern side of town, Chris Khassem has finished work on his $80,000 home and has become the first person in town to construct and move into his own residence. Khassem, who is the richest man in town with an estimated worth of $300,000, owns and operates the 12 room Khassem Inn, which is the only place in town that one can stay at. The bar/restaurant that he operates in the inn has also been a success, but with the opening of the new Seaside Restaurant, owned by Jim Howard, it remains to be seen whether there will be a drop in clients.

Hey everyone! As some of you might already know, I have started an ambitious project called The Dunya Project. If you are familiar with "The Towne", then you will get the general idea behind it. Basically, what happens is that each player that joins controls a character, making desicions each turn such as buying land, buying goods, opening companies, etc. It is a detailed and slightly complex game with lots of pictures and numbers! The game is forever evolving, and the country of Dunya is being shaped by the collaboration of you, the characters! I am hosting the project over at SC4D, but will post the updates here as well. Please head over to The Dunya Project forums, and join up as we are looking for more participants!

Turn Seven

Population: 840
GDP: $3,360,000 ($4,000 per person annually)
Education Level: Lowest
Government Projects: DOIL Gas Station

Central Rawa'a as begun to take shape, and during the mornings, when most of the town crowds onto Main and Corner Streets to do their business, the energy and buzz can be felt. The construction on the 3 houses the government was building to rent out has been done, thanks to the efficient hand of Salford Construction. Although they are still unoccupied, given the lack of quality residences in Rawa'a, they won't be for long.

Kim Presston has opened up the largest farm in Dunya west of town and just north of the Geothermal Power Plant. The farm, located on Edward Ezamsi Street, is made up of 3 different lands, combined to make one farm. In total, the farm is 51 plots, or 5,100 sq. meters. Presston will be in direct competition with Clarence as they both own fruit farms.

The government has registered its first company, the Dunya Oil Company, or DOIL. Construction on a petrol station on the corner of Edward Ezamsi Street and Drift Lane has already begun, and approximately $120,000 will be invested in it. DOIL has already ordered oil that will last the country 6 months.

Here is the Information Sheet for Turn Seven! If you notice, I have added quite a little more information on the town's info page :) All information is relevant and will play a role in the shaping Dunya! Don't worry, the upate for Turn Seven will follow soon (Its Ramadan and fasting is getting the best of me :( ) Here you go!

Turn Eight

Population: 1,022
GDP: $4,292,400 ($4,200 per person annually)
Labor Force: 520
Education Level: Lowest
Government Projects: The Dunya Daily Building

The most evident change in Rawa'a over the past few months is the farms that have popped up to the north and west of the town. While most of them are harvesting fruits and vegetables, the town also saw the opening of 3 new ranches, as well as its first registered fishing company, owned by David Davis. The annual demand for Life Neccessity (fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, liquids) products is approximately $2,450,000, of which $820,000 is for fruits and vegetables. The local market is now growing almost 35% of all fruits and vegetables, something that will surely start to reflect on the prices of the products for the consumer.

Closer to the center of town, construction is nearly everywhere one looks. To the south of the Royal Residence, a small affluent residential neighborhood has developed around the Khassem Residence on Trait and Jalmi Lanes. The construction material is all imported, including the wood used to construct the houses. Terrence Salford, owner of Salford Construction, also just completed his own residence on his 400 sq. meter (2x2) land on the corner of Edward Ezamsi Street and Drift Lane. It cost $120,000 upon completion, excluding the worth of the land. The government has recently contracted Salford Construction to develop its $250,000 project on Edward Ezamsi Street that will house its newspaper, the Dunya Daily. Set to go off into circulation within the next few months, it will be Dunya's first puplication.

A milestone was reached in Rawa'a over the past few months as the population grew past 1,000 residents. It was also marked by the increase in GDP per person for the first time ever, growing from $4,000 annually to $4,200.

Finally, here is the Dunya Information sheet for Turn Eight!

Turn Nine

Population: 1,203
GDP: $5,052,600 ($4,200 per person annually)
Labor Force: 610
Education Level: Lowest

The last 6 months has seen a number of residents move out the basic government shacks and in to their own houses, as evident by the residential neighborhood that has developed to the south and west of the Royal Residence. Jalmi Lane and Edward Ezamsi Street have become popular choices for the those wanting to build their own homes, especially the southern part of the town.

Across the Rawa'a Primary School, a new comic book and sports card shop has been opened by David Darnell, a new immigrant to town who has acquired a 2x1 land on Drift Lane. The choice for opening the store across from the primary school was that he wanted to be as close to his target market as possible.

King Edward Ezamsi has promised that studies are underway for the construction of a larger dock after meeting with the businessmen of Rawa'a last month. He said that their demands for a new dock is justified as the current pier has had large problems handling the growing number of imports into Dunya. The pier is currently over capacity and pretty soon will be unable to meet the demands of the town due to its basic and undersized facilities.

I will leave you with the overview shot of Rawa'a, along with a mosaic of the CBD of the town. Enjoy!

Turn Ten

Population: 1,467
GDP: $6,161,400 ($4,200 per person annually)
Labor Force: 660
Education Level: Lowest

Under the initiative set by King Edward Ezamsi which gives all government employees access to loans that allows them to buy small plots of land and construct their own houses on them, Rawa'a has seen a burst in the construction sector currently occupied by the government and Salford Construction Company. The loans are typically repaid over a span of 12 to 13 years, and have generally been for around $80,000 to $100,000. The Bank of Dunya has announced large profits due to the substantial amount of loan repayments.

The CBD of Rawa'a has slowly taken a life of its own, and nowadays it is filled with small stores carrying fashion, electronics, groceries, hardware, and even a pharmacy. There have also been 3 restaurants that have opened for business along Main Street, overlooking the tranquil Indian Ocean. While the bustle during the day time is expected for a town whose commercial activity is completely revolved around the stretch between Edward Ezamsi Street and First Street along Main Street, the activity and buzz after the sun goes down is a new thing to Rawa'a.

The government recently unveiled its plan to satisfy the religious needs of its people, giving the approval for the construction of both a church and mosque. Both will be constructed near the Rawa'a Police Station, with the church on Madrasa Street and the mosque on First Street. They will cost $750,000 and $500,000 upon completion, respectively. With Dunya being a country of mixed faith, the government wanted to send a message that there was no preferences when it came to those different faiths, and that all Dunyans are one.

Also on First Street will be the government's largest investment yet; the Rawa'a Central Hospital. The hospital, which is scheduled for completion a year and half from now, will cost approximately $1,000,000. It covers a total of 900 square meters, including the parking area, and will feature and Emergency Room, as well as a Surgery Department. King Edward Ezamsi will open it personally.

Land prices around the CBD have jumped from $1,200 a plot to $1,500 a plot. Everything on Main Street from Edward Ezamsi to First Street, as well as parts of Corner Street, will benefit in this increase in prices. Additionally, prices in south Rawa'a have also risen to $1,200 per plot.
