Waldey, My Epicurean Garden

Hello and welcome to my very first MD!

Epicurus was a greek philosoph, born 341 BCE on Samos. He was the founder of a school whose most important purpose was a happy tranquil life, characterized by peace and freedom from fear and the absence of pain.

He was the first who gave freedom to his slaves, he was the first who spoke about one mankind, the first who treated women and men in the same way.

Maybe this sounds strange for a introduction of my first MD ever but as i´m a follower of Epicur´s thoughts i will show a very personal fantasy, my dream of a land where i would want to live if i would have a chance to do so.

You can find Waldey in every good atlas, it´s an island in the middle of the wide Simlish Ocean, not big, but big enough for a lazy guy like me and mostly rural cause i love nature and places where i can look around without viewing any buildings (anthills/towns are okay though as i love ants  :D).

From childhood on i´ve planned many fictional towns, islands and railways using pen and paper but after discovering SimCity and custom content in 2009 this "game" fastly became an alternative for that. I never played it, from beginning on i only wanted what i did before but i had to learn first how this program works. This was not easy and it is not as i now only know a few little things: i´m a real beginner. But i will learn as long as i need to realize the pictures in my mind with this program.

To start my MD here is my way to say thankyou as i´m no BAT artist or modding specialist like the people whose work i use for my stuff. But maybe some of my ideas are worth to be shared, and also there are some comrades they helped me all the time and i think they have the right to see what they support.

Credits go out to drunkapple for one of his perfect his (a little bit changed) maps, Jersey, credits go out to Xannepan, Kwakelaar, Haarlemmergold as i mainly use there framework BATs, also to all the BATters and modders from the NAM-team, SFBT, TSC, BSC and especially to the VIP-Team for their revolution of the game last year and a lot of independent artists whose work i found on SCPolska, Capital Simcity, SimCity Brazil, ST and SC4D. Sorry, you are too many people to list everyone here.

Special thanks to my mates Theresa, Framly, Knapp and Dantes, to marsh, Yann and ionionion for intriguing me into this game, Cédric/Badsim for his tutorials and opening my eyes, rivit for changing his rolling stock for my purposes and last but not least to the community of the simforum.

I hope i didn´t forget anyone...

I have to apologize for showing only a huge constructing site.
Hope you although enjoy what you´ll see!

Great start my friend! I guess there's absolutely no reason to apologize for those great views! But where's the construction site you mentioned ;)?

I love the scans from your personal little maps. I also have those although mine are far less detailed =)

Looking forward to more!

Theresa

This is amazing  :o  It's hard to believe this is your first MD entry. The wonderful rails, perfect selection of (mostly timber-framed) bats, excellent use of MMPs, and charming stone streets and sidewalks. The best thing of all is how seamlessly it flows together, more like a picture than the product of a "game". Calling this a "construction site" is a bit unfair  ::)  After all, the idea for all of us is to be constructing something in our cities, though this would appear much more like a completed scene. Your graph-paper planning has paid off and this MD promises to be worth coming back to again and again.

Welcome to MDing and I can't wait to see more!

Carl, beautiful, intensely detailed stuff.  That looks like about three months worth of work.

We are privileged that you would share it with us.

I am impressed. It is always good to see a new MD these days. But your start is really outstanding. I admire your attenton to detail.
Ok, there are a few unfinished spots in some of the pictures but I don't care. I find Mds showing how things develop and take shape very interesting.

Hi Carl

That is a really nice looking region, and the sketches are a pleasant change of pace to the diary.

Good luck with your diary

I think you were bored for a week...really great made...the cargo area of the station is a little bit to clean, and may a switching station will look nice, but, really great work, go on this way...

Carl,
very nice work indeed - its clear you have spent a good deal of time and effort thinking this one out - everything matches and joins quite well given the many styles and pieces you've used. I really like the overall effect a lot.

Personally, its very rewarding to see how you've mde use of the railway wagons - brewery especially good. My personal favourite though, has to be the guy stuck under his bonnet trying to fix his red wagon...

   cheers Ron

Hi carl,

this is a great old town. It doesn't look like a construction site, it's a living town where I would like to be. Even I regret, that You don't want to post it at simforum, I'll follow Your work closely. Go on like this

wow, a MD by eufl opps... carlfatal  ;D!. I was wondering if you someday will star a MD here, because I like your pictures in "Show as.." section and your comments are always interesting. And here it is. :)
Nice introduction and great stuff in your start. I like the railyards, the textures and sidewalk, and the cementery.
Great work! &apls

Hi Carl  :) ,
finally, you start with your MD. :satisfied:  Your preliminary work is very well thought out and gives a fascinating insight into your development work.
At the very first picture I've been shocked by the attention to detail.  :o With so much noise I did not expect. Your half-timbered buildings are a completely new standard for this topic.  &apls  &apls  &apls
Your station and the railway environment are impressive and beautiful. I am still missing a little more traffic, but your city radiates a lot of liveliness. Picture 1.21  with the little walkway to the cemetery I really love.

Keep it up!

Hello, Carl!

As I already told you, this station is really really nice. In fact it's one of the most realistic I have ever seen on SC4D. The old town surrounding it is also well done.
I'll take a quiet life... A handshake of carbon monoxide.
