Yeah, sorry I was kinda bugged out because of all this vague new terminology, such as UV mapping.  And frankly, the tutorials seem to offer very little insight how to create a new skin texture in the first place, aside from a few programs which can be used.
Anyhow, I now have Blender installed and working my way through to unwrap the new ferry model. Still not sure how though but it'll get there. ;)
Also over the weekend I've read somewhere automata models can only have 500 polygons max. Is this true?

Well sure it can have more, but there is no need for it. Remember its thing that moves a round, so it has to be calculated again and again.
Also you can easy remove all the triangles that you can't see in the game.

If you look at how the ferry is done, you see that not all details are model.
Some are done like the railing in the textures with an alpha.
I have done the same with my pantographs on my trams.
That way its also easier to change things around.

I starts out by take the UV-map out and place it on the layer at the top. Then remove all the black.

Guess I didn't go into the making of the texture as it is basic not something special for Simcity, so I am sure you can find some tutorials else where.

I have started using a program called TextureRipper.
Its a free program and based on Adobe Air that also are free.

Here is a few examples:

Great looking, Vester!

Actually, the two lines ( the one I asked, and the one you mentioned) pass not so far from each other! And also, the Senzan one has a transfer to the Tohoku in first station.

Here's the diagram of the two :

Anyway, thanks for the skin, very nice and it fits very well in my cities.

Here's a picture for you (though, you've already got it in my PM )

Thank you, Derry.

Here is two more:

Well the second is a variation of the first.
For some strange reason the orange line disappears in game.

Looks great, Arne! The orange line looks like a dashed line instead, but it is already nice.

Started to work a little on some new trains:

London Overground.
Still need to add some roof junk and some junk under the side panels between the wheels.

Its basically an update model of the APTX trains for easier retexturing, as the texture has the same resolution on almost all parts.

Nice looking model there Arne  &apls  Great to hear from you here

Thank you Noah.

Here is a quick update:

More or less done with the engine. Well nightlights are still to be done.

This is really interesting, and looks great!

I never imagined the amount of work that has to go into something like this.

I was interested in recreating the Gautrain (see Gautrain Eurostar) for SC4, but this just seems like way too much work and way too complicated!

I'll leave it to the masters! ;D

I still religiously use your tram mods!

Hi Vester! Have You ever thought about creating european-look buses? That kind of automata is very rare and desirable.

Girafe

It looks really nice Vester. I am glad you continue modding automatas  ;)

Not really. Don't have my interest. Sorry.

Well you might just get your wish. Its a bit hard skin to do, as the color changes a lot, being gold and silver colored.
If you could take some pictures of the train ....

Took a look at some of the very early train mods, by Oppie, SFBT ect.
A quick clean up in the files, the size of one of 3ds files went down from 368 kb to 3.2 kb  ?=mad)=
99 extra copies of each part will do that to a file. Extra work for the game calculation which of the 100 copies to show.

Not much to show today....

Still waiting to hear back on some help with installer script for the Japanese trains.....
