Hi guys,

I'm trying to install NAM 35, but the installer gives this error:
the file "SimCity4.exe" cannot be found in its installation directory
I point the installer to where it's installed, but he keeps repeating the same error message  ()sad()

"SimCity4.exe" is installed in this folder btw:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe

How come the installer won't accept this?
NAM 29 through 34 were installed without trouble...

Any help is greatly appreciated, I can't wait to toy with the new NAM  ;D

Normally, with a disc install, it's actually in C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps.  I'd try that first.

It used to be in that folder, but I "had" to move out of the Apps subfolder to make the DAMN-manager work (I think).
Anyway, there's a reason why it's no longer in the Apps subfolder.

I'm not sure, but it's possible I moved the .exe *after* I installed NAM 34.
Could this be the reason why the installer keeps looking in the Apps subfolder?
And is there a way to "force" the installer to look in the new map (i.e. SimCity 4 Deluxe)?

I'd assume the NAM installer reads the installation path from the registry, and by default, the SimCity 4.exe is installed in the "Apps" subfolder. You shouldn't move around files in system folders manually; if it was necessary for the DAMN for whatever reason, then you should adjust the registry as well (do a search for all instances of the SimCity 4.exe and edit the path accordingly).

As Andreas rightly points out, you shouldn't be moving these files around. You say you had to move it, but that doesn't make sense, after all the location inside the Apps folder is the default one. Logically, any applications that are designed for SC4 should be designed to work with this setup.

In any case, the fix here is probably going to be one of three things:

  • Restore the SC4 files to their original location.
  • Fix the registry links to correctly match your changes.
  • Uninstall/Re-install SC4, using the default settings, then try the NAM installer once more.

I can be such a doofus sometimes...
Restored SimCity4.exe to the Apps subfolder and NAM installed fine  :)

I really don't remember why I moved the .exe out of the Apps folder.
But at the time it made sense, I guess. Like I said: doofus  &ops

Thanks for your help guys!
And off course thanks for the NAM  :bnn:

Glad you posted your issue, I did the same thing.

It took me awhile to figure out why I had moved the .exe in the first place, but now I've got it :] It was the only way I could get the DAMN menus to display at all in the game. I read in another post that DAMN manager can't 'see' inside the /Apps subfolder, so I moved the .exe ... not far, just one level up to the /SimCity4 Deluxe root folder. My DAMN menus now work, which is a critical point with 4 Gb of plugins!

Thanks to your post, I managed to install NAM35 just fine (Windows 10). I just temporarily moved the .exe back to /Apps for the installation, then returned it to the root folder after installing, for DAMN's sake. Both DAMN and NAM work fine... and no CTDs, knock on wood!
