Great update &apls  but reading the text, I found something weird: "Over 9.000 people work here in three 10 hour shifts, 6 days a week." Isn't three 8 hours shift, 7 days a week? :P

Guillaume

That is probably my english.  ::) I wanted to say that one worker works 10 hours a day on 6 days a week (60 hours a week). He has one day off. The mill never shuts down.

But, if the factory never shuts down, who do work on sunday?? The day off for all workers... And the 10 hours, maybe it was like this in Germany! In France it was "Les trois 8" (The three 8), three times 8 hours in a day: 22h-6h (10pm - 6am), 6h-14h (6am - 2pm) and 14h-22h (2pm - 10pm). 3×8 = 24h, 1 day.
But if you say it's 10 hours a day, no problem, I just made the modifications about what I know :D

8hour shifts were introduced when the socialists/social democrats fought for worker's rights. Before, there had even been twelve hour shifts(just as in ultra-capitalist america nowadays ;D)

This is the end, hold your breath and count to ten, feel the earth move, and then...

Great work on the mill. I love that building, I'm always tempted to build it in every city.

Oh, and have a nice holiday. ;-)

That's not just in America. It's in many factories in Europe, too, especially fully automated plants like BASF where workers mostly do check-ups and inspection instead of manual labor. As a railroad engineer/train driver I mostly do 10 hour shifts as well, but some other companies require as much as 13 hours with mandatory overtime.

Cheers,
Willy

Just caught up on 4 months of updates - and they look great!  Personally, I like the street names, makes it a lot easier to keep some sense of where you are, especially if, like me, you don't get around to any given MD all that often.

Kergelen

Fantastic mill update. I like how you manage the reconstruction of the place and the final result is impressive. Also awesome night shoots &apls

Amazing work. Great to see that the city is bringing in some major business. That new massive steel mill should bring in plenty of new employment opportunities for Empire ;)

Hi everyone! I am back from my vacation. I had a great time with my girlfriend in Tenerife. We were on top of the Teide, a 3718 meter (12.198 foot) high volcano which is the highest summit in Spain. We walked through the Masca Gorge, visited Loro Parque and spent some relaxing days at the Playa Jardin in Puerto de la Cruz.
The only bad thing is that, despite it being cloudy and me lying under a parasol, I got a bad sunburn with 2nd degree burns on the last day.

Empire Bay is officially still on vacation because I am running out of things to show while I am working on some big projects. There will probably be some tiny "I am still here" updates, until I have collected enough material for some big and (hopefully) spectacular updates.

This is my first try on a Google style street map (following Packersfan's tutorial). It is showing Empire Bay's central tile. It is still work in progress, but please let me know what you think. I hope to expand it to a full region map eventually.

The map looks great -- nice work!

As for sunburn, I feel your pain. I have only two shades: pasty white and lobster red. I try to avoid the sun because I burn so quickly. Use lots of aloe vera!
