David
With the release on March 7, 2009, of Set 1 of the STR, this thread is now open.
David
Pathing errors have been found in the Left Hand Version Plugin. Three of STRxDTR crossings were not correctly pathed as shown in a picture below. Paths on DTR part of them were not LHDfied.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg301.imageshack.us%2Fimg301%2F5144%2Fstrxdtrlhdpatherrors.jpg&hash=7e86f874c648c62819e77ca8d99db2fd0c07dbc0)
Attached a patch file. Copy z_STRxDTR_LHDPaths_Fixed.dat to the same folder as RailwayAddonMod_STR_LEFT_HAND_VERSIONS_ONLY_Required_Additional_Plugin.dat.
Sorry for the inconvenience. And thanks to a person who reported the error.

This looks like a stability issue, since I can create those crossings without any problems in some situations, but they break if I change something in the setup of the transit network.

The SAM crossings were quite last minute, so they won't be 100% Stable, but you can choose not use them or just keep trying until they appear.
In the next version, we'll stabilize them and add more NAM Override Networks to the crossings (like GLR and RHW)
Jonathan
well this isn't exactly str... but my sr(standard rail) and viaducts seem to be missing paths!
If your cars drive on the left, you need to select the LeftHand Plugin when you install the NAM. Otherwise, you will be missing paths on rail-type networks.

Hi All...
Have been playing around with the STR and discovered this...
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi448.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fqq206%2FCaptCity%2FSTRSPath2-1.jpg&hash=0936dbdc0a34f4a10b9074cba17baee5d855b469)
...on the S_curve.
When checking the pathing, our old friend, the extra path arrow is still there...

This came up in the 3RR thread (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=112.msg222013#msg222013) a while back, and I wondering if I missed a fix or update.
-Charlie
The 8x8 wide radius STR curve does not show up in the Region Transit view.
I'll have some time over the next couple of days to do some bug hunting- don't anyone think we've forgotten about you.
David
Guys, sorry if this is the wrong thread, but the readme for Beverly Station seems to point in this direction.
Have noticed the following issue with the station:
1. No problems when plopping the station.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg511.imageshack.us%2Fimg511%2F1269%2Fnewcityfeb1500124080909.jpg&hash=d1a99a6de88558a5eb328c380c71d7ae2026edaf)
2. But plop anything at the right end of the station (this case a Maxis park) ..........
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg511.imageshack.us%2Fimg511%2F7417%2Fnewcitymar9001240809157.jpg&hash=00d3c8b019474bf6ce1b4b0c95425b83abc29c8e)
3......and then try to bulldoze the park or station, well the result is quite evident
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg511.imageshack.us%2Fimg511%2F7649%2Fnewcitymar2700124080920.jpg&hash=37562f99404aa1878ca24f21a4dfc25b1202ff63)

I have used other lots besides the park and the result is always the same. Also, while not shown here,
should the road not extend across the front of the park, you will soon see the no road access zot
appear over the park.
Was wondering if anyone else had encountered the problem and whether there is a fix (or is it just me).
Appreciate any feedback.
Dave
Yes, I can replicate the problem. I wondered why it does happen, though, as we modified the Occupant Size of the station model, so it can overhang the lot properly. So I did some investigation and found out that the Occupant Size had been reset, maybe due to a last-minute modification in the Lot Editor. Sorry for the oversight, I'll upload a corrected version to the LEX in a minute. :) You should be able to get rid of the "immortal" lot by surrounding it with the same lot on all four sides and bulldozing them together, though.
EDIT: I've updated the installer.
Andreas thank you for your hard work and also updating the installer!!
Thanks Andreas
I've got a couple problems with STR crossing elevated RHW-4 and MIS:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi460.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fqq330%2Fnerdlydood%2FNewCity-Oct1001240695479.png&hash=62c178d0da5cb89e73ff755209c86aa4432adda6)

nerdly, that's simply because STR Underpasses haven't been added in yet for the Elevated RHW networks. That will be fixed in a future release, though.

Having difficulty with Threestooges STR rail bridges.
I have the STR Addon, the latest NAM, the latest NAM Essentials. I have installed the three STR bridges by Threestooges and I have run the update Additional Bridge Controller in the NAM Essentials after installing the STR bridges. All the STR puzzles pieces are working just fine. However, when I try to drag an STR across water (river, etc.), I only get the dual track bridges to choose from (including Threestooges Howe truss bridge dual track version). Am I doing something wrong? Is there another step that needs to be done to get the STR bridges? Any help would be appreciated.
Linda
Linda,
I'm not sure what would cause the bridges not to show up, it should just be a matter of dragging a bridge of any sort then selecting the STR bridge of your choice. The bridges should appear at the bottom of the bridge selection menu, near the dual track Howe Truss. Though I don't think it would be the problem, make sure the STR bridges are in the Additional Bridges folder that was installed with your copy of the NAM and perhaps re-install the bridges. I'm not aware of any minimum span length requirement, so I don't think that would be it. If you could post a screenshot of the area when you are trying to lay a bridge (with the menu in the shot) it might help in diagnosing this problem. I will look see what might be causing this in the morning.
-Matt (threestooges)
Hello Matt,
The bridges should appear at the bottom of the bridge selection menu, near the dual track Howe Truss.
I checked the bridge selection menu. When I try to drag a new STR rail bridge, these are the choices that I get: Top row: Level rail; Under Truss; Small rail arch; Cantilevered truss - Bottom row: Overdeck truss; Rural rail bridge; Modern rail bridge; and Metal pylon bridge. I do have all three of your bridges installed in the Additional Bridges subdirectory of the NAM - Howe, Trestle, and Plate Girder. None of these show in the bridge selection menu. The files, as installed, are in alphabetical order by name - in the complete list of bridges in the Additional Bridge folder.
I have reinstalled the bridges; also, running the NAM Essentials to update the Additional Bridges controller.
Since I am a happy lurker, I have never uploaded any images to SC4D (no ImageShack or PhotoBucket account). If you don't mine, I can send you an image (jpg) by PM. I won't send any image(s) until you say it is OK.
Thank you for your reply and hoping to figure all this out,
Linda
That's fine with me, though you don't need an account to host photos. I use Imageshack personally, and all you need to do is hit the 'browse' button on their main page then upload and the next page will provide you with a number of links. Copy and paste the url there into what are called "Image tags."
[img] url that is the direct link to image [/img]
and that will post your picture.
In the meantime, I'll see what I can find out about the files that are currently available.
Hello Matt,
There are times when I do not understand exactly how SimCity 4 works or how the NAM works. I decided to reinstall the whole thing - NAM, RHW, SAM, and STR, your bridges, and my other bridges. The only thing I did not do was install and run the NAM Essentials. I now have your bridges - where they should be on the bridge menu selection - and some other bridges that I had forgotten about. And everything works in the game.
What is the NAM Essentials for, please?
Again, thank you for your help and concern.
Linda

What is the NAM Essentials for, please?
Generally, NAM Essentials is used to provide needed RUL and Bridge INI modifications for Optional NAM Plugins that are released between NAM Core releases.
For instance, some of the bridges that came out last month require the April 2009 NAM Essentials release, as they were released after the last NAM Core release (March 2009), and there hasn't been a Core release since. For a little more info, I've written up a little
FAQ Item (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=5094.msg230750#msg230750) about the Essentials in my NAM FAQ thread.
-Alex
Glad to hear things are working for you Linda. Generally a delete/reinstall session is a good way to fix most problems. Often times there will be a duplicate or something hiding in there that you may have forgotten about. Installing from general to specific works well (ie NAM, STR/SAM, individual bridge files). Hope to see you more around the site.
-Matt
Thanks both to Alex and to Matt. I think I will just leave the NAM Essentials alone until we get to a download of something really new and different.
Linda
I think I found a problem with the grade crossings.
This was made without the use of any puzzle pieces, purely draggable STR.

That probably occurs because the switch is next to the avenue. You can revert the dual track to single by placing a starter piece on the other side of the avenue from the tracks and then dragging the single track onto the dual track. It will change the dual tracks to single.

Thanks. It worked.
Also Thanks for posting this, it is a bug, and it should convert, we'll sort it out forthe next version.
If you find any other reversions please let us know.

But why would you need such crossings? ;)
were the STR/SAM on diag interesections fixed? I am just getting invisible/missing textures, also the STR has different base textures to the DTR, and the STR-DTR converter has none, how hard would wealth-dependency be? it would be especially nice if you could get rid of the "sidewalk" next to farms. (also an idea, it would be nice to have certified NAM-pattible/certified texture replacement packs, for the side walks and base textures, and for the actual networks as well. as many of the mods atm are "incomplete" in some respect or another, and also rely on overloading ones in the NAM packages. It would be nice if they were "dragged out of the depths" and packaged in bundles labeled accordingly, so instead of overloading, you could just swap. ahhh the Ideas....)
Joe
Amtrack, those are very specific reversions,
The 2nd, 6th and 7th pictures, if you just end the STR one tile before there is no need for those textures
The 1st picture is one unrealistic and two not very common, so there's not much need for it.
3rd picture that will eventually be added in. Same with the 5th.
And there's not much point in double diagonal STR, you might as well just have a normal rail(4th picture).
Jonathan
HELP i have problem it will not appear in the game the railroad only the image it just wont appear btw haven't see all the reply so help i have all the dependecy
And now with the help of dot's and Capital Letters? Do you have: a. the latest NAM? b. The STR Plugin? c. after you have placed the starter piece can you use the rail tool to lay STR?
yes i have all of them nam 2009, str plug in(what is it?) nam essential ( both bridge and controller upgrade) and yes i do that.
STR plugin is the Single Track Rail, the thing this thread is about.
Jonathan
yes i have all of them it worked once but then it stop? :'( wh ()what()
Since it worked before, that suggests something has since changed. Have you removed or added any files to your plugins since the last time it worked? If you have, then one of the removed ones might need to be in there, or one of the added ones might be overriding something. Check to make sure you do not have duplicates of any NAM files. Duplicates of NAM files can cause it to stop working.
what do you mean duplicate NAM files? i never remove anything!! i better delete every thing and then try again
Quote from: Vegantor on June 02, 2009, 06:59:23 AM
i never remove anything!!
That is what I mean. What have you added to your plugin folder since the last time it worked? It might be that one of those recent files is causing your problem. However, rebuilding your plugins is also an option (though it may take longer). Hope it works for you.
thanks everyone its now back thanks :)
Glad to hear it. What did the problem end up being (if you don't mind sharing)?
Has anyone noticed this since the June 2009 NAM went out...?
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi448.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fqq206%2FCaptCity%2FProject1-2.jpg&hash=59623a0ac53937ec5af4202fe1f7e87dc621a198)
While tabbing through the STR menu, I noticed what seems to be something 'missing' after the diagonal s-curve and before the ortho filler piece. It is not there with previous NAM versions, and no pieces seem to be missing compared to the earlier versions. Curious...
My first instinct (since I've had it before) is that there is some duplicated NAM file in your plugins somewhere. Double check that if you haven't already.
It is STR version of this piece.

There's an STR-DTR FARR crossover counterpart to this, but you'll have to wait (but not for long) for the STR Plugin update to be released.
When I compiled the NAM Controller r27s I moved that piece into the STR button since the piece was added into RailwayAddonMod_STR.dat. I was thinking that the STR will be updated along with the NAM June 2009 release, but it hasn't been updated yet. There will be an update to the NAM June 2009 to fix some minor bugs. STR could be updated then.
Ah.... Thanks for satisfying my curiousity, Ebina. I hadn't made the connection between the menu place and the post about the upcoming STR-DTR piece.
After the NAM update the problem still remains

Which problem? The STR-related one? Well, that will only be fixed in an updated STR. ;)
perhaps we need a "real" STR tunnel instead of "hillside STR to subway", because freight trains can't go through the subway.
or is there any fix to default maxis rail tunnel?
Work on STR is going to be picking up again, and if anyone has found bugs then please post them here, the more bugs you post sooner rather than later the quicker we can get to fixing them and the more stable STR becomes, and the quicker you will get new override networks. Once STR is 99.9% perfect, we'll add new networks quite quickly.
@Jonathan
It sounds good, I dont found some bugs yet, but Ill have got ideas for new RAM and STR-parts:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg24.imageshack.us%2Fimg24%2F8269%2Framt.jpg&hash=46146301f9ada2381cc29dc9ee29809a523bcafc) (http://img24.imageshack.us/i/ramt.jpg/)
May I add some suggestion for furhter STR developement? Hope this his the right thread, btw. What I'm missing desperately is some elevated street/road/avenue/highway-over-STR crossings ... but I'm sure that's on your list already ..
how about a pizzle piece like "going up to El-HEAVY RAIL with curve" ?
like this:
Whenever I use diagonal STR over RHW-2, the STR reverts to double track over and beyond the crossing.
Example:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg705.imageshack.us%2Fimg705%2F1564%2Frambugt.jpg&hash=977b6e6a11c7a045063420f017ed96d6376636f1)
I was told that this was a RAM team issue.

Kinda both. It's mainly just that the particular setup you're trying to build hasn't been made yet.
-Alex
Ah, okay. It's just a minor annoyance I discovered a few days ago when playing one of my old cities again.
Not worth even thinking about until the new RHW is released.
Thanks for reporting it though , we want to get STR perfect in that it doesn't revert to double rail anywhere so anything like this helps as it goes on to a list which we can then know exactly what reverts and what doesn't and also what people do with STR.
When I try to place any kind of road or street across a STR the road turns red and it says I can not place on reserved tiles. I have downloaded both dependencies the May 2010 versions before downloading the STR plugin. Anyone know whats going on? Just read the track is bi-directional, could you make a one way version for placement like around a MAPP (modular amusement park pack on simtropolis.com). I think it would look cool like the railroads they use in Disney World and Busch Gardens, but not if the trains collide head on.
Could you post a picture of the problem you are having?
Although the STR is pathed in both directions by using the correct switches (like just normal STR curves off double rail) you can limit the direction the trains travel in. The reason it is pathed in both directions is that in game it would make it harder to use, as a single direction track could only be used in a circular line that meets it self up again. using it like it is now will mean the trains will just pass through it each other, an advantage of virtual worlds ;), there won't be any collision or crash.
We may implement some puzzle pieces that allow you to block the travel direction to only one, but this is on the bottom of any to-do list.

There is a "Print Screen" button on your keyboard, you will find it in the upper right corner. When you are in the game and want to take a picture just presss this buton, then go to MS Paint and press Ctrl+V. Then save the file and go to www.imageshack.us and upload the picture (click on browse button and select your pic, then click upload now.

-Alex
I went back and read the instructions for the STR Mod again and realized that I was not doing the laying of the track right. The roads will now work fine, sorry to cause a headache to many of you.
Dean
Jonathan,
I found out the reason that none of the roads would cross the rail tracks. i am trying to make a circular type rail system for an amusement park I am designing for my SC4 game.
Okay, here's a big post for you concerning crossings:
Starting with RHW
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thedwarfers.net%2Fotherstuff%2Frandom%2Fstr_orth_rhw2_orth.jpg&hash=1c31bd4991381e52a1ee82559396228d4781d575)
The RHW-2 texture looks a little outdated, I'm thinking 3.0? Personally I would prefer to see stop lines (even though the automata won't stop), although I understand that causes extra work for the LHD version so use your discretion.
The diagonal RHW crossings have already been covered earlier, so moving on:

The RHW-4 crossing doesn't exist yet, which I'm sure you already know. And even though they won't animate, crossing gates would be nice to see on the RHW-2 and 4 networks for DTR as well, also stop lines. (Granted this might fall under the NAM board more so than here.)
And where roads are concerned:

Stop lines again would be nice to see to match the DTR.
And the biggie:

Of the two Ortho STR x Diag road directions, only one is modded correctly. I've read all about the fun times with the 'flips allowed' and 'rotations allowed' properties, so I do not envy this task. :-[
Obviously the non-animating maxis t-21s should be removed (red) and the STR t-21s (blue) need editing to disallow this flip and instead new ones created, placing the gates in the positions marked by the blue dots.
(I understand the theory and terminology involved, but I haven't had much time to practice or I would pitch in on some of this. ()sad())

The RHW-2 texture looks a little outdated, I'm thinking 3.0? Personally I would prefer to see stop lines (even though the automata won't stop), although I understand that causes extra work for the LHD version so use your discretion.
That one hasn't been fixed mainly because all the RHW/STR stuff is on the RAM end, which hasn't been updated, as opposed to the RHW end. It always gets a bit tricky when you've got multiple NAM plugins interfacing with one another to sync everything. :D Easy enough to fix, though. As far as stop lines go, I'm looking at that on the RHW end. I've been playing around with using true-3D flat props using
buddybud's network prop technique and T21s for that sort of thing. From a software design standpoint, it simplifies the RHD/LHD stuff, in addition to reducing file size and modularizing the stop lines.

Strange . . . I could have sworn it existed. ::) I'll have to check on that to see what's up there--thanks for reporting it!

I totally understand how things can get out of sync with so many overrides interfacing with each other and so many things changing all the time. :-\
Sounds like a good plan with the stop lines. I look forward to it.
So I take it the crossing gates automatically appear when you cross the railroad tracks with any kind of road?

Are these pictures true ?
Have we only one this way ?
