Hi there! And thanks for your comments and likes under the last post :) There's no sum-up poster for Galand this year. There has been too few updates troughout last months, unfortunately. However, there's somethin else...

Like siemanthepieman spotted from my signature (advertising works! ;) ) and as I mentioned last weeks, I wanted to show something - let's say - special for this time, as tomorrow is the 10th anniversary of Kolbrów. Quite a bunch of time, huh? That's been a lo of time of building and many of things, that I created, were based on real life Kraków - my hometown. And all those references, I would like to show you. Starting from tomorrow, I'll post a post every second day during next week.

So, stay tuned! Have a great party tonight and a Happy New Year! And don't forget to come back tomorrow! ;)

Thank you for visiting Kolbrów, and for being for last ten years!

It's true that we have not seen updates here for a long time, so I can not wait to see what you're doing!

Kolbrów

Exactly 10 years ago, the first photo from Kolbrów was published. Posted at SimCityPolska and showing some block estates, it had originally meant to be just an experiment lasting no more than few days or few weeks... However, as we may see now, it turned out to be much much longer than this.

Altough my style of building and ideas about the city were changing, Kolbrów is highly based on real-life Kraków. There are many inspirations woven into quarters, recreation of existing places, real-life bats modelled by other players troughout the years, etc.etc. In upcoming updates, I'll try to show you some of them trying to bring those ideas closer to you.

Now, let's get the context...

Kraków

Kraków. The second largest city in Poland, located in the south of the country by Wisła river, now having around 770 000 residents. In the past (especially in medieval times) it was the capital of Poland, headquarters of kings and symbol of the Polish power. Altough the politics changed and for few centuries it is no longer the capital, there are still many remainings of the history and heritage waiting at every corner just to be discovered.

Main hearth of Kraków is the Old Town, a historical district with a market square being its very centre, and the Castle on Wawel Hill - the royal headquarters that still is a living hearth of Polish history and culture. Old Town is surrounded by other historical districts (like formerly jewish town of Kazimierz or Podgórze that has been founded by Austrians), as well as old industrial zones (whith Schindler's factory), universities, pre-fab blocks and socialist quarters that have became witness to modern history of communism regime and people's resitance towards it.

All of those briefly listed places combine to a one image of a city soaked in its every inch with history and the modern, education and religion, multi-culturalism and Polish oldest traditions. And most of them are taken into Kolbrów ;)

So, let the journey begin!

As have been said, the main point of the city is the Main Market Square (pol. Rynek Główny). In the middle of it there is Cloth Hall (called Sukiennce), a medieval "shopping centre", we may call it ;) You have seen screenshots of it many times (usually for Christmas) posted there. However, for the 10th anniversary, it has ben given two extra real-life landmarks: Church of St. Adalbert (the small white one) and Town Hall Tower.

You may have also had a chance to see a real photos of them, as (with Church of St. Mary that unfortunately is not modelled into SimCity) they are probably the most known Landmarks of Kraków.

It has been and still is to be the point where the most important events take place in Kraków.

There's more interesting landmarks around the Old Town... but that in the next episode ;)

Big congratulations to your decennalia! &apls &apls &apls Your brief excursion into the world of MD'ing has given me too a lot (not least a highly valued friendship).

With the tower the Rynek looks even more like the square in Kraków, but honestly, even before, when I stood there, I felt as if I had been teleported into Kolbrów.
Come join me on a hike to St Edmea!

There's something very characteristic about Old Town of Kraków, as it is entirely surrounded by a ring-shaped chain of parks (called Planty). There are some other landmarks within that chain as well. One of them is a small stretch of ancient city walls with St. Florian's Gate (Brama Floriańska). In the beginning of the 19th century, they were about to be demolished. However, thanks to a professor named Feliks Radwański, this small part has been kept for the future generations.

Planty is a place where people relax with walking and looking at landmarks, take a sit on benches or just pass by being hurried by their daily routines (or their tramways that are about to depart in a minute ;) )

Just by, there is a large and baroque-styled theatre. Built at the very end of 19th century has been named after one of the greatest polish poets Juliusz Słowacki. In Kolbrów, there is Maxis' opera house in its role... and it's not playing that bad, what do you think? ;)

St. Florian Street, the one that connects the gate with Main Market Square is a part of so called "Royal Trail"... usually full of residents and tourists. Many tourists! Kraków has the largest number of tourists among all Polish cities. Have you ever been there? ;)

Erik - Thanks! I hope that you like the second part as well :)
Karl - Tack så mycket! ;) I'm really glad to hear that! I try to imagine, how is it to see something in the reality after having seen it in the game. I have never such a feeling (just once the other way, when I saw Prague made by Korver). But I believe, it must be interesting!
Thank you for visiting Kolbrów, and for being for last ten years!

It's very nice comparing the different landmarks of your cities o the real one from Krakow. The maxis opera house do indeed a good job there, for a maxis building it doesn't look too out of place.

Art128 said almost exactly what I was going to say. This 10 year celebration is very enjoyable so far.

I can see you've also thought about the small church behind the theatre, which shows your great attention to details  ;)
