Title: GWL workshop
Post by: Gwail on May 18, 2009, 01:52:12 PM
Hi there, folks!

As I'd like to proceed with some different projects, I think it is the best place to show results of my work.

Some of you already know me - especially as a member of AC Team and creator of RMIP-3 vol. 1 (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=6985.0) project. Beside this I'm gonna to complete some other projects of wide variety - automata, lots, small BATs maybe. I will show the pics made during the progress. As I'm kind of perfectionist, I'll try to provide only the stuff of the highest quality ;).

Any comments and constructive criticism are always warm welcome.

Are you sure your children are safe going to school? Aren't you thrilled about their safety? Is their yellow bus reliable enough to get them to school and back home?

Don't take such risk, trust in the experience. Here comes 1997 AmTran Body on International Chassis - Conventional just to cure all your pains. Replace any old bus with our product and you can work every day without troubled thoughts:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg364.imageshack.us%2Fimg364%2F7793%2Fgwlamtranprev.jpg&hash=0cf2ecd7c6f6debe7985d07e449fa7fd29036490)

It would come as a replacement for the in-game school bus automata and as the prop for Lot Editing.

Whoa, that's awesome, Gwail!  I don't want to 'dump a load' of requests on you (if you even do them), but I was wondering if it's possible to throw some ID on the sides, such as:

LAIDLAW

First Student

Ridge Road Express

Those three are the prominent bus carriers around here, save for the several school districts.

It looks really good Gwail!

Now we only need a bit better textures for roads, props, BATs, terrain...  :D
And we will be able to enjoy the next city simulation game  ;)

io_bg - thanks, I hope so, too ;).

Ryan B. - as it's only a "cosmetical" change and a bit of messing with the digits, why not. If I only could have a good pic showing the name for reference, plz.

Ennedi - thanks... and I'm starting to worry right now  :o .

All pictures are property of their respected owners.  No infringement is intended.

Of course, if none of these are sufficient - and you'd be willing to send me the base texture - I can make my own and send them over to you.  :)

Thanks very much!

Thanks, Ryan. I need pics only for font face reference, these pics are enough. Microgamma for Laidlaw, Southern family for RRE and something similiar to Arial / Swiss for FS (it's called "professional abreviation ;) ). Although FS on this pic isn't any of these (I'm not sure, I don't use such font, but I've found alternative pics with FS name, written with Swiss family font) it looks almost like the hand written technical using a stencil ;). At worst I will copy / paste the name from the pic ;).

Edit:
All right, here we are the bus family:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg195.imageshack.us%2Fimg195%2F5232%2F090521gwlscb.jpg&hash=19991179581bfe105fe883ae937ddd5ac682c1bb)

It's taken from the lot, as it's quite difficult to hunt down every bus on the street, they dissapear so fast... ;).

Now I have to handle with some issues (ugly shadows on the lot and some UDI menu troubles).

It is possible to change the time after which automata disappear  ;D If you want, I'll look for an apropriate exemplar  :)

Great vehicles!  I want them!

Stijn, glad you like it. And I have to dissapoint you - it's definitely not HD ;). As the game running on software render mode doesn't support s3d textures largen than 256 x 256, I use just 256 x 256.

Adam, I'm not sure, but the automata dissapearing is coded within LUA file, not exemplar. Anyway, I'd like more to know, how to prevent of casting shadows - shadows casted by s3d model prop are strange, ugly and odd (you can see it on the ledt part of picture). Turning off "IsGroundModel" property doesn't work. I've asked Jan about it, I hope he could advice me.

So do I. It depends on you, too  $%#Ninj2.

Wow, if that isn't HD, than it sure does look like it. This means that you did one hell of a good job on that texture, my friend!  &apls &apls

It may not be HD, but it is double the size / detail of the default maxis textures.  ;)

Stijn ;).

null45, indeed, I've used a bit tricks on it.

If no one has any more comments and notes, I should find out how can I share it. Jan (Swamper77) has told me a bit about my worries (thanks a lot!), I think I've managed them.

The next project I'd like to show is the New York City MTA recreation project. First of all I'd like to note, that it would be quite long lasting project. It's only a "take-a-break" work away from the primary tasks from AC Team. I'm creating something different when I'm temporary fed up with all these runways, taxiways, layout diagrams and skidmarks ;). "Recreation" is a bit too big word, I'd just like to create some bats / automata that should at least reminds real ones as much as I'm able to do. You will judge it ;). Let's start!

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg34.imageshack.us%2Fimg34%2F2084%2Fgwlmtarpheader.jpg&hash=0fe99e2fdd6d35583a5931eb4fb3f000fa4bfdc8)

The project is divided into two parts - BATs and automata. BAT's should contain the pack of common mass transit stations - bus stops and subway stations. For automata I'm planning right now to create some models of buses (Adam ;) ).

Stations
My idea is to create a wide range of Mass Transit stations, both roadside and road-top, diagonal and orthogonal, for high-wealth and ghettos. I'll try to diverese them as much as I'll could, using family props. How it would look like? Here we are what have I done till now:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg194.imageshack.us%2Fimg194%2F5145%2F090521gwlmtarp01.jpg&hash=8567483070f98ec472b6f9dbd08758533bb25226)

Are you lovin' it, too ;)?

I know that Gshmails has done such stations, but they are too big to fit as roadtops and they aren't diversified at all.
These are my first BAT attempts (not counting plopping helper props for RMIP-3.1). So far I'be made about 15 adverts for bus stops and there is another bus stop shelter on the work bench.

Subway station will have randomly adverts, too, same as the light bulbs. Now I'll have to figure out, why the subway station doesn't appear with nightlights as it's shown in the upper corner (all is rendered, "IsGroundModel" property set to true).

Buses
There is nothing special to show right now. So far I've got only some early pics of my first automata textures (should be rework, both models and textures) - the school bus is third one, if I count well :). Most of this work will be possible thanks to kindness of Olasz, who taught me how to manage s3d model with Reader and agreed to use his work. Thanks a lot, buddy!

Take a look at these MCI D4500 coaches running along Empire State Building:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg194.imageshack.us%2Fimg194%2F2287%2F090521gwlmtabus01.jpg&hash=f0b3410a0d62e5688ce9ee9a41e8e76c0082c3c6)

And here we are a test-driven Mercedes Citaro G, shown before in Olasz' thread:

The buses I'm planning to do are:
Some of them will come with different propelling versions (CNG / HEV). It's all I've found so far in the internet.

If you have any comments, suggestions, requests, interesting info or picture, don't hesitate! I'll appreciate any help to make it as best as possible.

Stijn, the adverts are separated props, so there will be no problem to publish the source gmax file, I think. There will be some changes, because I've talked with Steve (z) and cogeo to include these stops as props for RTMT series.

For now I don't have any news, it was a quite busy week for me. Instead I've got something different. While searching for various photos, I've found a lovely pic... Here you are the results, I couldn't resist not to make it ;):

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg46.imageshack.us%2Fimg46%2F466%2F090601nypdesu01.jpg&hash=97d7d339946723eca675a6f347fd5d505a663fbe)

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg269.imageshack.us%2Fimg269%2F567%2F090601nypdesu02.jpg&hash=d4bddabd2ba5278879d05a832cbe40d87a1715f2)

It's NYPD Emergency Service Squad Truck, in beta. Based on Jan's (Swamper77) EMS Ambulance s3d model, still needs some modelling work (some details missing) and creating flashing lights.

OMG WOW Gwail the bus's are out standing and the ESU Truck is amazing!!!!
Title: Re: GWL workshop
Post by: Gwail on June 04, 2009, 12:35:32 AM
Thanks, Pat! I knew you will like it, especially NYPD ESU ;). You shoud like the pic below, too:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg198.imageshack.us%2Fimg198%2F9917%2F090604nypdesu.jpg&hash=12d76b4cb9adda94cefdea87a048001c671c32d2)

All the details are done (there is only two texts to add - "C-P-R" on the sides and "keep back 200 feet" at the back, I've forgotten about them). Now I've got only to figure, why the textures on the ladder and "grill-guard" have dissapeared. Maybe 1-2 pix width is too little...

Next stage are nightlights / flashing lights.

Great to see someone is doing a NYC transit project. Since I am a New Yorker I would love to have all of my cities have a bunch of the NYC stuff such as subway trains for rail yards and stuff. Your police van is a work of art and I love the bus's and bus station signs. Cant wait to see what kinda stuff you make. The Subway station looks good to btw...maybe a lil dark though

SimNation, great to see an original New Yorker in my thread! I'm glad you like my work, don't hesitate to bring suggestions at any time. Yes, the subway station will be brightened.

Luke, will see, so far I have to finish modelling.

Meastro - I'm not sure if it's a good idea - there are some flashings on it, see below.

Ryan, be prepared ;).

Although I'm a bit busy with RL stuff again, there is always some free time to move on. Today a little feedback highlights of NYPD ESS unit. First some stress test photos thanks to Ennedi. Dakar Rally ahead ;)!

Title: NYC MTA bus: Orion V
Post by: Gwail on June 28, 2009, 11:39:46 PM
Adam, thanks for sharing more photos (at least I can post again, without being warned  $%Grinno$% - big thanks to all lurkers, anyway, always another 100+ views up  ). It's Ford F-250, enforced, I've seen it lately in my neighborhood, really makes impression. I'm only curious, who will pay for another painting and bodywork  ;D.

So, let's go with something new - NYC MTA buses:

First of all, Mercedes Citaro G has been finished, all I have to do is managing LUA script to work together with other trailered buses.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg33.imageshack.us%2Fimg33%2F1935%2F090626mtacitarog.jpg&hash=7797ad2a73b22fcdebd1e5ec57e454ab8c0bf90d)

And here goes brand new Orion V, with two versions - standard one and CNG propelled:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg36.imageshack.us%2Fimg36%2F7127%2F090629mtaorionv.jpg&hash=ac52db366d248d3b5bdd47dbf9b83dfc1c33f540)

Only one thing left is replacing windows in Orion V CNG, to make more variety. I'm still thinking about lighten up the windows with nightlights - there is enough bright light inside the bus to show the whole interior. But I don't know if it wouldn't go too far ;). I have to try.

Hello all, I'm replying in response to the School Bus.

I've been waiting for someone to recreate the imgame school bus for YEARS.. and you guys finally did it :)

Only one problem, the roof caps are not correct. The bus is listed as an "AmTran", however you have a Blue Bird roof cap on the front, and a Corbeil roof cap on the back (which don't even exist on longer school buses). Other than that it looks almost perfect. I'd love to help with the skinning or making skins but I have no idea how.

If it helps, you can use my website for reference on future school bus projects:

One question, will the bus shelter be able to be incorporated in the RTMT?

Jake, thanks for stopping by and making your first post in my thread! It's good to know that there is somebody being found of school buses around here . Your website is very well organised (I like it more than school bus central), I will certainly use it, when I'll decide to make another school buses. About my AmTran roof caps - being honest I didn't pay too much attention to these details, indeed, my fault, thanks for pointing that. I will be more carefull next time :). It's great to see your project as I've been waiting for NYC automata like this for quite some time. The detail and effort going into each creation is wonderful! &apls

I wonder though if there is a way to replace the default siren on the ESU unit for a more authentic NYPD siren sound effect like these, http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/14/nyregion/15siren_sounds.html I know you're limited in time so maybe I'll try that to see if I can figure it out. I'm more of a BATer than a modder.

Speaking of which I have been BATing my own set of 3D New York automat including bus and subway stations. You might have seen them in my NYC recreation project thread over at Simtropolis.

Looking forward to more.

Ehanson, great you've stopped by, the pleasure is mine . It's a good idea with replacing the sound, I'll try to find out if it's possible, too. You've mentioned your bus and subway stations - blame me, but I remember only the West 72nd Str and Astor Place. I know your CJ at simtropolis and blogspot very well (same as Rene's one) - I'm a loyar lurker ;). I haven't seen any NYC generic stations (except Gshmails' models), that's why I've decided to do them by myself.

Merijn, thanks, you're very kind :). I wish my BATs were at least in a half as good as yours.

Pat, thanks! I think I will have a business to you, will PM you shortly.

The next bus automata is somewhere around... Stay tuned!

Way slow ahead!

Got a while to launch a game to make pics, so here comes a little preview with another NYC MTA bus - Orion VII, going in two versions - CNG propelled and hybrid-electric (HEV):

And a little add-on. Found a good pic, why not make a skin ;).

That enhanced version of the bus looks fantastic. The Standard version looks great to. Will the enhanced version use up more graphic resources? Of were you able to make it so it uses the same amount as the standard. Either way the buses look fantastic.

Thanks for the replies!

SimNation, I'm not sure I've got your point, but I'll try to answer the question - presented nightlight windows texture is only a modded copy of daytime one. I know, that night lights should show more details inside the bus (people, seats, handles etc. - in a daylight the windows, watched from that angle are mostly dark and reflect the environment), but it's difficult to show them properly with flat, 2d texture, concerning all angles you can see the bus. I'm going to add some "perspective-safe details", anyway.

Ioan, for now I rather don't plan to make more buses. There is another MTA bus I have to add to list - last month NYC MTA has purchased 90 new buses Nova LFS artic, so I won't finish my project too soon ;). But, there is always a chance I'll be able to make a small amount of other, most common buses, depending on demand (textures with different liveries are the smallest problem - give me only more free time ;) ). The first non-american bus I'm planning to do is a polish bus, Solaris Urbino 18, with my hometown livery - SPAK Szczecin. I like it much, the bus is much prettier than all these NYC buses taken together ;). Meanwhile I think you should wait for one of Simfanatik's next releases - he's preparing a bunch of bus automata using Glenni's latest models.

jmdude1 - thanks, I'm happy you like my work .

Sorry about the kinda confusing question...what I meant is that does the nightlighted window on the buses cause the game to slow down any...like how if you have to many HD props in your game it may cause the game to lag. Your answer to my question that gave me even more reason to want to have the nightlighted window version though  ;D

SimNation - you can test it by yourself now (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=22084). But you're right - I don't tend to save up resources too much - every bus uses two 256x256 for daytime (so it's a HHD - half HD  ;D - but it's friendly for sofware renderer) and an additional 256x256 texture for nighttime. It makes about 30 MB for all buses I'm planning to do. I've decided it was acceptable for me (high quality needs some sacrifice - all in all, it's only ca. 6-7 med-quality skyscrapers ;) ) - I hope for most of you, too.

Ioan, that's right. But what to do? They should be done and that's all.

Corey, that was my idea ;).

Thanks for all comments!

Joelyboy911, Alex - unfortunatelly, there is still a problem with LUA scripts. The scripts control all articulated buses correctly only if scripts are in one file (unless any wise man will solve that issue - I'm too weak with these). So I have to do all artic buses I plan, next make a script. Otherwise only one bus (loaded first) will appear correctly (with its trailer).

Some fresh news:
I've decided to make some MTA subway cars, too. First of all I have to learn anything about these. So far I was thinking about R-42, R-44 and R-160. Correct me, if there is any other model worth doing.

Remember NYPD ESU unit? I thought that it would be a crime not to use it to make other civil service vehicles, such as the FDNY EMS ambulance, wouldn't it ;)? All it has to be done was a new skin and small model modifications to obtain a nice Ford F-550:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg193.imageshack.us%2Fimg193%2F2428%2F090727fdnyems.jpg&hash=996720137912124f1876042837760aba44cbcf27)

Remember - don't drink and drive! Now it will be a time for new emergency lights. But it will wait for some time - I'm going on holidays next week, until then I have to finish some other projects, IRL mostly. Although I'll try to finish Orion VII and a couple of reskin requests.

Shadow221: Welcome to SC4Devotion. We have a saying here: 'It will be ready when it's ready'. Most people don't plan a time for things to be ready - this avoids disappointment for the fans and stops extra pressure on the creators to meet deadlines. If you are lucky, some folks will give you an estimated time, probably measured in weeks or months.

Gwail: Thats cool, I can wait as long as it takes!

I downloaded these files in to my plugin folder:

Orion 5 Diesel, Orion 5 CNG, Orion 7 CNG, Orion 7 HEV, MTA RTS, police van, Laidlaw school bus, First Student school bus.

NO other vehicle automata installed.  All of the above are the additional files, with the exception of the last one.

I tested these in-game by plopping and demolishing many bus stops.  Excellent work on the detail!  The problem right now is that I have multiple UDI icons for bus and school bus.

What's wrong?

Regarding subway cars, the cars you listed above are really subway cars.  But, the R42 will be retired next year.  I would do the R46, R62, and R160.

Don't worry, almost everything is ok :). I've missed to remove some reps in the Exemplar file, that's why every additional bus makes another unnecessary position in the menu, I've noticed that lately. The newest pack (Orions VII) is already modded properly and I'm working on a small patch for AmTran and Orion V packs.

Thanks for the tip about subway cars, I will proceed.

Shadow221, thanks for the photo, interesting wheel rims, I've never seen them on MTA bus before. As far as I know MTA uses NF D60HF, so that will be my model. But I think yhat you wouldn't notice the difference :).

Note that they are different lengths and widths.

The R46 (and R44 and R68) are 10 ft. wide and 75 ft. long
The R62 (and R142) are 8 ft. 10 in. wide and 51 ft. long
The R160 (and all other in-service cars) are 10 ft. wide and 60 ft. long

A suggestion for another bus in NYC and other cities, the Alexander-Dennis Enviro 500.
NYC Gray Line Siteseeing open top version:
Similar buses are in Washington D.C., San Francisco, and Hollywood.  The closed top version is used in Hong Kong, Toronto, Las Vegas and more.  The similar two-axle Enviro 400 is used in London.  I think this would be a good bus to make, it's a relatively simple shape and wouldn't be too difficult to modify into a London bus, or re-texture into many different liveries.

Amtrak7, thanks for the info and a link, it's very good repository, definitely useful.

SpeedyFarrar, the open bus is very tricky - to make it well, you have to model all the seats and other details, that usually are covered by the roof :). But who knows, I don't say nay, but not too soon.

Bus Boy, glad you like it. For now I don't take any requests of new bus models, that are expanding my to do list. Maybe I'll be able to make an 40-ft Nova LFS after making the articulated version, purchased by the NYC MTA. So far I can make only additional skins of already made bus models.

As I've written before, I was on the holiday, so don't worry about me, I'm fine, thanks . Beside this, please, don't expect too many in the nearest future, I've got some RL business to handle and in my free time I'd like to finish the RMIP-3.1 project first. Of course it doesn't mean that it shouldn't happen any surprise here ;). First of all I'll have to fix an Orion V, that came out without mirrors  %wrd.

Stijn ;).

null45, indeed, I've used a bit tricks on it.

  • Nova / TMC RTS
  • New Flyer C40
  • New Flyer D60
  • Orion V
  • Orion VII
  • Orion VII NG
  • MCI D4500
  • Mercedes Citaro G
Some of them will come with different propelling versions (CNG / HEV). It's all I've found so far in the internet.

If you have any comments, suggestions, requests, interesting info or picture, don't hesitate! I'll appreciate any help to make it as best as possible.

COOL MCI D4500 Hey you know would be cool if there was a MCI D4500CT as well but wishes r wishes

Gwail This was the Articulated Bus I was talking about the ones at the top

Hi Gwl! I'm Dany and I saw your Citaro G.
That's great!
In Italy (in cities like Rome or Milan) we have busses like citaro in orange livery for the town lines and blue for the suburban ones!

shadow221, there will be MCI D4500 CT, as well. I know, what bus did you mean :).

Dany, welcome aboard! I hope you'll be content with belows.

I've decided to stop working on Citaro G, as there were only episodic drive tests in NYC. It was my second automata texture and it doesn't meet my quality requirements. Maybe some day I will do something with it, but not now, too many other work. That's why I've decided to publish it as a stable beta. It should work well with other standard buses, except any articulated bus made by Olasz. No skin request, no service maintenance, it goes as it is ;). The bus is made thanks to kindness of Olasz (the idea, model and LUA script).

I hope you'll find it useful.

Post by: Gwail on September 10, 2009, 10:26:12 PM
A bit long from the last update :)!

Today something special - a tribute to all braves of 9/11:

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg43.imageshack.us%2Fimg43%2F2472%2F090910fdnyengine10.jpg&hash=76af79b806ed135e4cf5c637a627e50a12f9685f)

Available at STEX now.

Edit:
Forget to mention: both models are extremely detailed (especially pumper unit), as you can see, however, I was trying to optimize the number of polys (almost unseen faces are removed). If there will be serious issues about the game perfomance (I doub't, honestly, but maybe), let me know, there is possibility to make version "lite" ;).

And last but not least - thanks to Adam (Ennedi), for his hand at the beta tests.

Title: Re: GWL workshop
Post by: nerdly_dood on September 12, 2009, 06:42:36 AM
You mentioned that they may have a relatively high poly count - it's generally wise to have no more than 500 polys on an automata model; any more and you'll degrade performance. Hence, most of the detail on my own vehicles is done with careful texturing, with a relatively simple model since you can only see so much detail in SimCity at normal zoom levels.

Those are some great trucks with a LOT of detail, but it's easily possible that they may be so detailed that they substantially degrade performance - I'll have to test them myself on my own mediocre computer to see about performance problems.

I've tested them out a bit, and found that although there are no performance problems - at close-in zooms, it's clear that most of the detail is in the texturing, rather than the modeling - but there are some graphical bugs. For one thing, the flashing headlights, the strobes on the front bumper, and the amber flashing lights on the back don't show up when the glow of a rotating light passes over them, and that flashing light effect is clearly very detailed; it must have been very hard to assemble.

Also, on both trucks, the front bumper has a zigzaggy graphical bug similar to what I've had on some of my own models - the easiest way I've found to fix this is to remove the problematic part of the model, and do it over again. (Surely there's an easier way, but I haven't found it.)

Also there's a similar problem with the black pipe on the left side of the pumper:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1006.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faf184%2Fdoodofnerdlyness%2FNewCity-Jan26011252764314.png&hash=4c191ff6d2313cf4635a2de6b065457490907c2c)

Once these are fixed, these trucks will likely be the best available.

shanghai kid, it's extremely photoshopped, but not the way you're asking ;).

Nerdly_dood, thanks for stopping by and posting the feedback. I've let myself to model much more details than usually I do, as these are only emergency vehicles, not showing in the common game play.

Right. It's the matter of difference with blending mode between rotating and flashing lights and cannot be avoided. Only thing I had to do was carefully time tuning. That's why there are flashing lights at the rear of ladder unit instead of rotating ones - the effect of the crawling lights on the light bar was invisible at all. The rest of flashing lights are visible, more or less, at various angles of view.

You're using software rendering, I guess? There are the problems with crossing faces under SR (you can't see it on my screens, right?), in fact I should avoid it - the best way is not crossing any faces but more precise modelling - it always takes up more polys, but it wouldn't be any effects like this. As I'm planning to make some more Seagrave units (tower ladder, tiller ladder, some individuals), I'll surely remake the bumper. Thanks for remind it!

I'm actually using hardware rendering. It's not often that I get that sort of bug - when I had it on my own vehicles, it was only with certain parts that were not joined together - for example, the lightbar of a police car once had that bug, and I also got that with the lights around the top of an ambulance (they're part of the model, not the texture) - both times I had to remove them and put them in again, and the problem was solved.
Title: Re: GWL workshop
Post by: Gwail on September 12, 2009, 11:18:30 AM
I didn't have such problems with any of my automata, unless I've set the software rendering mode. So the only thing I can do is to remake the model, test it in my SR mode and then give you for testing, if you wouldn't mind.

I can do that. Great mods, apart from the one problem. The light effect for the ladder truck in particular is very detailed, and even a simple one is a bit tedious to make, so such a complicated one as you make is a testament to your patience.

It isn't so time consuming, when you've got a good method. It took me up to 10 hrs to make the lightings for ladder truck (designing, setting, testing and fixing). The clue is to prepare a time table, next is carefully copy-paste the data. Can you give me your mail, I'll send you fixed model?

Pat, glad you like it. Can you help me a bit and answer my PMs :)?

Shadow221, thanks! Of course, it is a chance to make such skin, when the model will be available and I'll have some free time to spare.

A small news - nothing new, in fact, but almost ready for release, at last:

8 props of MTA bus shelters, with different adverts (Mc Donald's, ESPN, Hard Rock Cafe, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Burn energy drink, Hancock the movie and  NYC yellow cab). The pack is prepared for the brand new RTMT 3.6 release, coming soon!

Another brick in the wall ;). Here is the alpha version of MCI D4500:

There is still a bit to do about it - I don't like the shadows on the roof, there is no nite lights, some parts of textures have to be replaced for more variety (especially windows).

You can see 3 buses:

I wasn't able to find out, what route number should I place on the 9/11 bus. Can any newyorker help me out?

SimNation, glad you enjoy it. I'm planning to make some BAT with NY bus depots, some day, maybe... For sure I will make all the buses as the static BAT props with different angles, unless the Cogeo's tool won't make it and the quality of the s3d model is sufficient. Since you're New Yorker, can you help me with that special MCI D4500 9/11 bus route number? It has number 2185, all I've found the bus belongs to Ulmer Park Depot. It services Express Routes: X25, X27, X28, X29, X37, X38. Which one does (did?) go the 9/11 bus?

Adam, thanks! You know, I'm too weak with 3d modelling to make such, you have to ask Mikeseith for more, if you don't like his latest huge american cars release. I will focus on finishing my buses, subway cars, and some more civil vehicles - another thousands of ideas are awainting in the query ;).

Thanks, Brandon, I was curious about the route number, not side number :).

SimNation, thanks for the link, it's useful, although I've managed to find the number out in other way - YouTube came in hand. I think I will set the X27 on the display.

Something "new" (waiting over two months to complete). Has anyone called 911?

These are first ambulances of the bigger pack I'm planning to do - up to 8-10 vehicles in total (including FDNY EMS truck shown previously). If you have any good pics, don't hesitate to post them.

hey shadow,
really nice work with all these. I am particularly taken by the bus shelters with advertising posters, finally realistic looking urban bus shelters. When we these be available? I'm off to look up RTMT, I've heard the phrase but there's just so much to catch up with on this game.

Sure, Brandon, you're right! But when I make the skin, every pixel is important. It's a kind of my little aberration ;).

thingfishs, let me answer instead of shadow ;). Glad you like my bus shelters, they are now part of RTMT ver. 3.6, available on STEX (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=22713).

Hi  Chris ,

Beautiful thread here about your terrific work .  ;)

Well , we have had a few discussions by PMs untill now , but I decided to make them public from now . I was waiting for more tests and feedback before to make a decision . Now it's clear that I would need your intervention ... if you're still ready to give it some of your precious time .

I think you saw that picture from The Triumphal Way ;

(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg269.imageshack.us%2Fimg269%2F8256%2Fbadsimstudio133.jpg&hash=aa668a68f667dcdbae755a00485d3580794a293d)

As you can see , there's a terrible size difference between the RATP bus automata ( from Zaraza ) and the same RATP busses props from Vincent (Vnaoned ) - despite the fact the one seen on that picture is the trailered version . I've discussed about that point with Vincent and I rather aggree with his opinion : It's better to take the Sims sizes as reference than BATs around . So I think I'll keep his props and would need another automata ...

Is it your opinion , and so , would you be willing to realease it ? ( Nothing in that request hurry up particularly ... )

Thanks by advance , whatever your reply will be .

Cédric .

Le Grand Maitre has spoken, what a honour ;)!

Of course I still sustain my will to participate in your project (I've even chosen the pics for the Parisian bus shelters lately ). Of course, it can last a bit, as haven't got too much free time and there's still so much to do around.

Speaking of the automata size. Yes, I know the problem and I still haven't made any decision. So far the size of my buses is accurate, following the Jan's (Swamper77) suggestion - if you put any of my buses, they would look like the Zaraza's one, I suppose (as almost all automatas, both Maxis' and custom ones - I don't know if someone else rescales his vehicles). I'm not sure if I'll go this way in the future. As most of the things around are rescaled, including the tallest skyscrapers, I'd rather remake all the automata to fit them better. I think I will contact Vincent to get some more info.

Great , great news . I'll try to follow this closer from now , you know I've got so many details like that to coordinate with many different members ...  ::)

Thank you so much !
I'm going to contact Vincent as well , so he should send you his props ASAP .

I'd take (almost) any request of NYC automata, if there is enough photo documentation ;). The NYC subway cars are on my list, the couple of NYPD cars, too. I'm not sure if I will make any ordinary towncars, rather not.

Meanwhile, a small update. Brandon, it's a special delivery straight from the Philly ;).

Hey Gwail found a new bus for you that might peek your interest. Its a silent electric bus that uses a turbine to charge a lithium ion battery. The buses Operate in Brooklyn right now according to the article found here http://www.inhabitat.com/2009/12/07/new-york-city-unveils-new-silent-electric-bus/.

Here a front and side picture of the buses that run in Brooklyn right now.

When I visited NYC 2 years back I learned that those black Lincoln Towncars are also taxi cabs thats why theres a ton of them hauling around the city. We got picked up by one on our way from La Guardia. These are not the ordinary taxies though there more of an exotic limousine service type.

Nerdly, sure Jan has done a good job with these, but there are still some car models left to do :).

SimNation, thanks for the photos and info, I already have the DL EcoSaver IV on my to-do list.

Dethsrow, I didn't know, if so, I'll put such car in my queue.

Gwail,

Understand you are busy, but I was wondering if you would entertain this request.  I recently discovered your buses, and I love the bus mods for both NY and Philly, they are phenomenal.  As I live/work in Philly I, was wondering if it all possible to get a more vanilla version of SEPTA C40LF bus (I.e., same bus, but without the large baseball bennered side).  Don't get me wrong the philly billboard is awesome on the bus, but I would like the ability to run all three SEPTA bus designs in my city without baseball or beer overkill.  A smaller advertisement banner under the windows would be ok, similar to that on your other designs.

- Jack

Thanks for the warm comments, I'll try to not dissapoint you next time ;).

Jack, I think there will be no problem to make a generic version of Septa bus, especially it's only a matter of new texture. I cannot say anything when it will be possible, though.

Also can you please keep the same color of the LED Signs that your MTA MCI buses have. And lastly can you put the bus route for the MCI-D4500 as "168 Paramus Park" (I go on this route to go home after coming from New York City) and for the MCI-D4500CT as "190 New York"

Thanks :)

I think there will be no problem to make a generic version of Septa bus, especially it's only a matter of new texture. I cannot say anything when it will be possible, though.
Hope that you are enjoying time with the family!

I just wanted to drop a quick note and let you know that when you get a break I have not lost interest in the generic Septa bus.
