Packersfan returns with a new mayor diary about the District of Wenzel with the capital city of Martin.

It has been nearly a year since I have really played SimCity, and a lot has happened in that year.  In January, my computer's hard drive died and with it all my plugins and my Sessquenna region.  In May, I graduated from college.  In June, I reinstalled SimCity and Rush Hour and have begun the arduous task of repopulating my plugins.

This new region uses the Meadowshire terrain mod from cycledogg/c.p..  The mod comes with an incredible tree controller and the trees are beautiful, unfortunately they don't plant everywhere because the terrain is designed to have lots of rolling green meadows, a hard thing for me to take at first but hopefully it will grow on me.

The water in-game looks nice but in the region view looks terribly fake.  Unfortunately, I cannot find the old river water mod I used in Sessquenna, so this will have to do for now, but of course I will be experimenting with stuff as always.  The mod is called Ocean River Water Mod by MayorBean

From Jeronij I am using the incredible Street Side Mod which plants trees along residential streets and places various other props on the sidewalks to liven things up.  For this city I will use his specially designed stone sidewalks as opposed to the Maxis originals.

So here is the region.  Like I said I am not too in love with the look yet, especially of the water...

Okay, I did not really like the Meadowshire terrain/tree controllers.  The trees were incredible and the textures are crazy awesome but just didn't suit me.

I re-rendered the region using just the plain MAXIS terrain, cycledogg's No. 7 Tree Controller, and Pegasus's Brigantine Water Mod.  I think it looks a lot better.

Cool start here, my friend. I have to agree that the water mod might not be the best. I would suggest Peg's Brigatine or Rivit's Coastal Mod. :)

Cidwm

I would recommend MAS71's water mod on the Lex.

Update 02 - Founding of Martin Town
Settlers sailed into the protected waters of Willms Bay and founded Martin Town on one of the peninsulas.

Forgive the rough look of the growing town.  I haven't downloaded all the plugins I used to have so there are cases where I used to have something to fill a tile but now don't have it and it is a little frustrating, but I'm trying to do my best.

I'm not too creative or good at really building a city from old times to present development, but I try to give it a little shot.

wallasey

Your region looks spectacular! I am looking forward to see how it all develops.

Best of luck!

Cool development here. Good luck with it.

Update 03 - Martin Town Expands
Martin Town has rapidly expanded along the narrow peninsula it was founded on.  Engineers constructed a bridge to "Clement Peninsula" and a thriving neighborhood known as "Clement Neighborhood" sprang up.  Wisconsin Ave became the connecting city between the original peninsula, "Clement Peninsula" to the north, and Walker's Fields south of the Brittany River.  Bridges over the Brittany River must be high enough for ferry and ship traffic and thus pose potential engineering concerns as the road leading up to the bridges must ascend several yards/meters.

Martin Town introduces paved and concrete roads and sidewalks.

Wisconsin Ave Bridge over the Brittany River.  No intricate engineering was used on this basic bridge.

Clement Neighborhood

This is a composite of a picture from the edge of Martin Town in SC4 and the next city square over.  Note that some spots do not line up for some reason, like the river.  I'm not sure, but maybe I terraformed the northern edge of the original peninsula too far and messed up the flow between the two maps.

Cool MD, packersfan. I like that you name the roads. And that is some massive diagonal development. Very good!  &apls

Hey packersfan, your MD is very nice, and liked a lot your diagonal streets(the residential section) in update 3.Also about update 3,your problem with composite images, try battle cat tutorial(you can found in the tutorial section here in SC4D tutorial section).I hope you can continue the MD,since its great, and you have nice cities in there.

The farms are awesome. Very realistiv placement of trees.
The bridge is maybe a bit too fancy for this area. I would have chosen a simpler model.

Blanket thanks to all who have commented and viewed this diary.  I'll post a more individual thank you in the future.

I could really use some help with a couple of issues I am having with my SimCity on Windows 7, 8 GB RAM, etc...To say the least, my game used to run great on my far inferior laptop and on this same 8 GB RAM desktop system with Windows Vista.  Now with Windows 7, all the same plugins, with the exception that I added c.p.'s Tree Controller no. 7, the game runs sluggish and freezes sometimes.  I am currently playing in Windows Vista SP2 compatibility mode (I also tried XP SP 2, and no real difference).  I have the sinking feeling that c.p.'s tree controller is the resource sucker and I want to know what you guys think.

Another issue is that I've started using the Pedriana Farm killer mod, but now the only farm that wants to grow is SimGoober's fukitol pharms.  I deleted every file I could find that contained a fukitol related model or lot or anything...but it still grew, so I removed all of SimGoober's plugins.  Now I have to add them one at a time to find which one is causing this unwanted farm.  Any ideas to save me a ton of time?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Update 05 - Early Downtown St. Paul
Here is another big town growing at least five or six miles to the south of Martin on the mouth of the Christina River.  I've completed a lot of farm land and I really wanted to have those updates first, but I ended up taking these pictures, made the mosaics, and had the rare opportunity in China of having fast internet.

I'm learning GIMP and much to my relief figured out how to put borders around my words so that they will show up nice on the pictures, however as you can see, the title bar on the first picture is different, but I feel it is simpler and cleaner.

Sorry no street or highway designations in these pictures or even a location overview for where St. Paul is in comparison, but in the future I will!  View and comment away.  It has been way to long.

Very cool packers fan. I Saw the Region view over on ST and it was simply fantastic looking. (Don't ask why I'm commenting here)

Update 06 - Eastern Edges of Sioux and Union Townships
It has been about a month since my last update, but as you will see, I've been hard at work filling in the land with farms and roads.  Today, I began street maps for the region and completed only the western edge of the region (the eastern edge of the townships of Sioux, Union, Jersey, and Sullivan).  I have pictures of this area and the map, but I will save Jersey and Sullivan so I can update in a few days.

The farms along the Rapidan River (SIOUX TWP) are about 15 miles away from the outskirts of the city of Martin.  The farms along the Brittany River (UNION TWP) are about 11 miles away from Martin.  We will start out here and move in towards the young city of Martin exploring the farms along the way.  Once we are done with that, Martin will start expanding and eating up the farms as it becomes a metropolis.

SIOUX TOWNSHIP

UNION TOWNSHIP

While laying the farms I wasn't sure it was going to look good.  I never felt the transitions between farm land and mountains were natural enough, but looking at the overhead satellite view, I am pleasantly surprised and happy with the results.  Tell me what you think!
